Ruth Bell Graham was a truly remarkable woman. I love how she told God that she would consider it an honor to serve Him with Billy Graham if God allowed it. She is a woman to be envied in her devotion to God and family and her absolute patience. Oh, how I wish I were as devoted as she was in every way.

Married to internationally known Reverend Billy Graham, Ruth Bell Graham has a lot to say in her own right. She shares her voice in a poetic way within the pages of "Footprints Of A Pilgrim." And what a lovely voice it is - melodic, deep, intelligent, elegant and so insightful. I had never known Mrs. Graham possessed such creative talent. Her poems are amazing and are of varied human, nature and spiritual topics, always interesting.
The book itself is beautifully presented, loaded with pictures of the past of family and friends and annotated with brief glimpses into Mrs. Graham's life. It's almost like a shortened version of her interesting biography, showcasing her wonderful poetry throughout the years.
"Footprints Of A Pilgrim" is the type of book I keep in my library as it can be re-read a few years from now, appreciating in age.

We are using this in my young adult women's bible study, and it is fantastic. The questions are scriptural, interesting and relevant to our lives. I recommend picking which women to do as a group and allowing members to use the others for personal quiet time.

I have personally used this book for a small group study. We get to see some strengths of many women in the Bible as well as their weaknesses and learn from both. There are short scriptures and questions that you can break up and spread them over a week period if you choose. Again, this book is great for small group studies and by using it in a small group, this will allow some accountability in the group and a time for spiritual growth with the Lord and with the others.
Takes forever to get through!.......2007-03-17
Some of the women are so obscure that it seems like the author is really reaching to get enough information to make a study. Our group found that some of the study questions required little to no thought at all which didn't help to get the discussion going. The real reason this book only gets 3 stars is because, if you meet once a week, it takes an entire year to finish!
A good book to help you know the women of the bible.......2006-11-10
Our women's bible study has used this book for the last two years to help us get to know the women of the bible. It is amazing how well you come to know the stories of the old testament through these stories. It is great to have these books to keep the class up to date however, I wish they had pulled a little more of the lessons of these women's lives into the study. We are doing that anyway, we just find them ourselves. All around we have enjoyed the book.

It's a reference book folks, not something you curl up with to read on a rainy afternoon.
Given the huge problems with indexing actors who seem to change names (or spellings) with each video, and videos that seem to change what scenes are included with each reprint or edition.... it's an amazing reference, nothing online or in print comes close!
If you want to know what videos your favorites are in, this is your best resource.
Is it perfect? No, in particular, there is no reverse reference, so you can find movies by actor, but not actors by movie. The number of pictures and descriptions is extremely limited making it often difficult to attach a name to a face.
Then there is the problem of what do you do with an X-rated industry where anyone with a video camera can shoot their own video... there is so much out there, so much that is not in any kind of traditional distribution.

Pay no attention to that last reviewer... I'm not exactly sure what he thought he was buying. Buy this book for one purpose alone - to serve as a comprehensive reference tool. If you're a serious fan of X-rated movies, particularly a collector, this is just the book you need. Whenever you want to know exactly how many films a starlet made, and exactly what the titles are, you just flip this open and there's all the relevant info, indexed by the actress (or actor, but why you'd want that is beyond me). Kudos to Patrick Riley!! (Don't look to this book for details of what each actress DOES in each movie - he has another book for that, which I plan to get when I find it.)

I sure wish I could get my money back. I bought this book about 18 months ago at a bookstore and after a few months I wished I could take it back, but they had gone out of business ( hope this doesn't happen to you Amazon) :-) . This guy Riley doesn't have much taste or imagination. Don't waste your money.

Okay, I have not even read this book, so everyone stop right there, before you give me an unhelpful vote. Please listen up. I just might save you some cash.
The X Rated movie industry is one of the most fickle, quickly out of date industry there is. I think the Videogames market might have a slight lead in this characteristic, but that's for you to decide.
I couldn't believe when I saw this book, as well as 2 others listed at Amazon. With the internet now, and instant updating, any listing which claims to be current, after 6 months or a year, is just a big sham! I promise there could be no useful information in a book like this, over 1 year old. There really can't.
A good friend of mine, Bobby Asslong, one time sent a prank joke to me through the mail. He had pasted together several X Rated ads, from various magazines, and claimed it was an application to apply to be an X Rated Movie reviewer. I took one look at the shoddy attempt at an advertising brochure, and laughed! It was in black and white, for one, and secondly, it listed a bunch of movies I recognized to be older than 1 year old. I knew it was a sham, since the Porn industry is so fast moving, and anything older than 6 months, is considered so yesterday. Why would they need to hire somebody to review porns? Don't they have enough volunteers?
I'm still friends with Mr. Asslong, and he continues to deny his little prank, but I know the truth. And similarly, because I"m an expert on the porn industry, I know that this type of book is a big waste of money.

A waste of money........1997-12-30
There is very little useful information in this book jam-packed with data. It includes highly debatable physical descriptions of the actors, their aliases, and the names and dates of their films. No plot summaries, no descriptions of their abilities or proclivities, or the relative quality of the films. There isn't even any cross-reference to find out if the actor or actress appeared with another particular actor/actress. Lame.

This book is simply not worth it if, of course, you're not under 900. I got the book for free, so it didn't really matter with me, however, the tactics in the book are very elementrary, so I would not have payed more than five dollars on it. I learned nothing more from this book on combinations than I did in any other beginner's chess book
CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!.......2002-12-18
Raymond Keene stopped writing original books on chess as long ago as ARON NIMZOVICH: A REAPPRAISAL (1975); Eric Schiller's work has been described by late GM Tony Miles as "utter crap". To quote chess historian Edward Winter, "Recycling old trash into new trash is a notorious book-spawning trick of Keene's... Only Keene and Schiller can make copying look so difficult." AND the book sorely needs basic editing which was omitted in the haste of making it. Ask any chess master about this book, if you don't believe me! Get yourself a good book on tactics like the Reinfeld 1001 series instead. (I am a USCF 1800 OTB player.) My rating for this book? ZERO STARS. Save your money.

This book was an outstanding help in my quest for better tactical skills. The diagrams and excellent writing allowed for quick improvement. If you go over a few pages a day your chess rating will rise at least 100 points. Within a few days you will see a large improvement in your tactical ability. You will see the board better and you will win more games!

Fun and Instructive.......2006-02-09
I like this book. I'm not done with it yet because it's huge and with tactics books I like to flip around a lot. It has the major tactical themes that can come up in your chess games, combined with a little bio of the great players whose tactics they illustrate. They make the book fun because they set the stage for each tactic with dramatic/colorful dialogue, and then ask you to step into the footsteps of the legends of the game and find the solution. The book also provides little tidbits of information like why the opponent's move was good or bad during a particular game and little idiosyncracies about the game and/or players. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because sometimes they put the solutions in a non-user friendly place so it sometimes became a laborious chore to find the answers. Overall, an entertaining and educational chess book.
Very Disappointing.......2003-12-07
The bird's eye view of this book was very promising, but beyond the initial 15 minutes of enchantment in the bookstore, this book turned out to be very disappointing. I exchanged it a day later for Lev Albert's "Chess Tactics for the Tournament Player."
I have just begun playing in a club against real people and am looking to elevate my game but am ranked around 1450-1500 on yahoo (probably less in "real life") The first book I read, Purdy's "Guide to Good Chess" contained a good overview of tactics, introducing concepts such as Pin, Fork, Skewer, Discovered Attack, etc. which I have been using in my games.
Looking at the table of contents, this book looks to be a treasure trove of tactics, at 400+ pages and introducing such tactics as the "windmill" and "alkeins cross", looks very promising.
The reader quickly realizes that each of these tactics is just an "extension" or sub-class of the primary tactics in everyone's vocabulary. The windmill is just a succession of discovered attacks (usually the result of a blunder.) wow.
I was hoping that the book would be instructive on tactics, but the examples only help to define this new vocabulary by showing the last few moves of some master's game where he used the tactic to good effect. In fact that is all this book is. For each tactic, it shows a few moves from a master's game where the tactic was used. Well duh, I have used them in my own games. At least now I know cool sub-names for them. I wonder if schiller invented these names?
I believe it would be much more instructive to view the series of moves leading up to the illustrated tactics, because being able to identify and set up the situation is much more useful than seeing the trap that is about to be sprung. I recently purchased a chess program (fritz 8) that has a database of games which can be sorted by tactic. So you can view entire master games based around use of a particular tactic. Why spend $25 on a book that is just selective regurgitation of master level games (with very little annotation), when for $10 more you can have a world-class chess engine with a database that sorts entire games by tactic? Maybe I'm missing the point.
The book does have a nice cover and a promising title. I have appreciated some of the Cardoza books written by Robertie including "Basic Endgame Strategy, Kings Pawns, and minor pieces", but this book does not have the same instructive feel. I am not biased against non-mainstream books or Schiller, its just that this book does not seem useful.
I appreciate that it is difficult to make a career out of playing chess, but dont write a book when there is nothing new to say.
SAVE YOUR MONEY.......2003-10-31
While I would not say outright that "almost anything written by Eric Schiller is rubbish," that statement is probably much closer to the truth than its opposite. Those I have seen are so sloppy that they almost seem to be deliberately mutilated. Missing moves, illegal moves, faulty diagrams, invalid assessments, suspect analysis, and ignorance of recent (or even old) ideas and discoveries, are all too frequent. Grammatically, Schiller fails in such simple tasks as subject-verb agreement and spelling of common words; apparently he does not even bother to use the automatic spell-check today's word processors offer. His work is thick with historical error and dogged by questions of fabrication, plagiarism, and other ethical issues.
Schiller may have written some worthwhile books, but on the whole he does a disservice to the chess public, keeping better books off the shelves by the sheer volume of his hackwork. Being a club level player I rely on the reviews of others I trust when I purchase a chess book. The lure of a quick buck is strong and I fear it is a temptation Mr. Schiller cannot resist.

You don't have to read it.......2000-10-30
This book covers 19 controversial issues. First the authors bring an issue, give some comments and give two articles that discuss the issue, but are contraversial to each other.
The reason why this book cannot get more than three stars is that the choise of articles wasn't really successful. Sometimes some of the articles seem not to make sence at all. Some of them don't answer any questions.
For instance, the one about Patenting Life; second article, which keeps ripping on Rifkin (the author of the previous article) instead of discussing some of the issues Rifkin mentioned in his article against Patenting Life.It's obvious that he's for patenting lives, but he doesn't come even close to some of the issues that Rifkin talks about in his article. He just tries to avoid them because he doesn't know how to answer to those claims. The author could pick a different articles in this and many other cases as well.
Also the second article of CEO Compensation Issue doesn't make any sence. Actually, the author of the article was Lisa H. Newton herself. She asserts that CEOs do nothing but writing memos and lay offs, at the same time receiving over 47,000 times (if I remember correctly) more than other people in developing nations like Africa and Asia do, and 209 times more than his employees.Common, this is not called Ethics in Business. She doesn't face the facts brought up by the author of the article who gave pretty reasonable arguements why CEOs should get that much compensations, why they are worth it.
Some of the articles do not provide with any references or sources of citations from outside sources when needed. I can mention one from Rifkin's article on patenting life.
The reason why this book got three stars is that, the issues brought by authors are pretty interesting and some are thought provoking. Even though one doesn't agree with the arguements, you can still learn something by reading them, and try not to repeat some of the blunders made by the authors.
I do recommend you to go for alternatives if you want a book on Business Ethics.
