    3 out of 5 stars A Good read.......2005-03-28

I enjoyed this but did not love it as other reviewers did. This is certainly a lovely and heartfelt book. Swindoll's recollections about her childhood and her way into faith are inspiring and just plain interesting. However, I really expected more Adventure. We only get to hear a little but about her travels and I wish that had been a greater focus of the novel. I think the author is a very satisfied human being with a nice life but not a particularly adventurous one, so, for me, the title was bit misleading.

5 out of 5 stars choosing a life well lived.......2004-05-27

Long before the luxury of "having it all" Luci Swindoll came up in a time when women's choices were "either/or": either you got married, left the rat race & disappeared into the world of family, or you had a career & adventures. Luci Swindoll chose the latter on a path of Faith & exploration.

I MARRIED ADVENTURE is a great way to think about changing your mundane, little life into one of richness. It will show you how to fill your days with design, how to gather your stories, & thus transform your regular days & occurrences into experiences worth living.

Rebeccasreads highly recommends I MARRIED ADVENTURE as a fine example of journal keeping & an engaging personal account of squeezing the most out of a life led by God.

5 out of 5 stars This may be my new favorite book1!(...).......2003-04-24

What a fun ride - not to mention funny, encouraging, inspiring, challenging, uplifting, and honest! I have attended four Women of Faith conferences (makes a great mom and daughter or a friends' weekend getaway:) and have always been encouraged and challenged by Luci Swindoll. Having heard her speak allows me to "hear" her as I read. However, you do not have to have heard her to get the full benefit of her story. When she states she "married adventure," she is not kidding. And the adventure is not just from her actual experiences, but from her whole attitude toward life. She has learned that the "special" days are not the only ones to savor. Ms. Swindoll pulls the reader into her belief that every day is a beautifully wrapped and intricate gift from God and we have the opportunity to open this fabulous gift every single day, hour, and minute of our lives. Although her life path has certainly been different from mine (she has remained single, had a challenging career in business, gives speeches to HUGE groups, and has traveled the world while I followed the more "traditional" path of marriage, motherhood, etc. I have not survived amazing travel adventures, I did survive two teenage boys:), her joy and enthusiasm are contagious and applicable to and life and any situation. This is NOT one of those "I am wonderful, my life is wonderful, and everything has been wonderful" books(you know, like some of the Christmas letters we have all received). Ms Swindoll is incredibly open about her shortcomings and mistakes and how she has, like the rest of us, been discplined by God to deal with these things.

I just cannot give this book a high enough recommendation. You will be encouraged as well as challenged, feel great joy and some sadness, and often find yourself asking "why in the world would she want to travel THERE and/or do THAT???" But at the end, I guarantee you will be looking at every detail of your life with new and curious eyes and looking to your faith in God as permeating each of those details in amazing ways. I know I will read this again and again and I can't wait to get to the Women of Faith conference this summer!(...)

Osa Johnson's travel adventures and explorations come across as vibrantly today as they did when they were written in 1940. They're richer now with the added perspective of history, and the added wealth of Martin Johnson's photographs of charging elephants, reposing lions, and head hunters roasting heads, marshmallow-like, over a campfire. The life the Johnsons led was nothing like the life Osa expected. From 1917 to 1937 she and Martin were visiting and filming cannibals in the New Hebrides, orangutans in Borneo, and the rich gamut of wildlife available on safari in Kenya and the Congo. Osa led a life the likes of which won't be seen again, and she tells a good story, too.

      Book Description

A CLASSIC MEMOIR OF TWO PIONEERING ADVENTURERS

Before Joy Adamson went to Africa, before Margaret Mead sailed to Samoa, before Dian Fossey was even born, a Kansas teenager
named Osa Leighty married Martin Johnson, a pioneering photographer just back from a 'round-the-world cruise with Jack London. Together the Johnsons flew and sailed to Borneo, to Kenya, and to the Congo, filming Simba and other popular nature movies with Martin behind the camera and Osa holding her
rifle at the ready in case the scene's big game star should turn hostile. This bestselling memoir retraces their careers in rich detail, with precisely observed descriptions and often heart-stopping anecdotes. Illustrated with scores of the dramatic photos that made the Johnsons famous, it's a book
sure to delight every lover of true adventure.

      5 out of 5 stars I Married Adventure.......2007-06-09

I loved this book! The author creates visual images that will have your palms sweating as you read about encounters with head hunters. This book inspired me to do more research about Osa Johnson. It was also enjoyed by members of my book club.

4 out of 5 stars Searching for the Grandparents of King Kong.......2006-02-25

My interest in and use of Osa's book are fairly narrow, but I enjoyed her retelling of her life with Martin. They were truly remarkable people, who lived up to her title.

      4 out of 5 stars Incredible Story.......2006-01-14

This book is a biography of Martin Johnson, written as a loving memorial by his wife shortly after his death in a plane crash. Martin, born in 1884, led a fascinating life. From Osa's descriptions of his school years, it sounds like if Martin had been an adolescent today, he might have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. He was obviously a very intelligent youth, but had no patience for sitting at a desk and studying topics that weren't of direct interest to him. He was quite taken with photography however, and established himself as a professional photographer while still in high school. He also had a lifelong love of travel, and he managed to spend several years in France while his peers were off in college or getting started in their careers. A lucky break with Jack London got Martin's career going. London hired Johnson as a cook for his ill-fated around-the-world sailing expedition. It was the photos that Johnson brought back from this trip that were to provide the original seed money for all the travels and photographic projects that were to occupy him the rest of his life.

Osa's story of meeting Johnson is incredibly wild. Before she knew it, she had eloped with this young man, and found herself at the tender age of 16 trying to see his dreams of travel adventure come true. Osa was considerably younger than Martin, and it was perhaps her youth that made their partnership work. Osa was still quite unexperienced when she began traveling with Martin, and was foolhardy in the face of danger, which any person would have to be in order to keep up with him and his crazy notions. Her youth probably also gave her the physical conditioning and stamina needed to run up mountains and away from cannibals. It's amazing to read of their adventures today, especially given their time in history, starting well before World War I.

Osa left school at 16 when she married Martin, but she nevertheless became a skilled writer. She was very much a product of her times, however, when it came to her attitudes towards non-Anglo-Saxon peoples. She seemed to look upon members of "primitive" races to be so far beneath her as to be just as appropriate as animals as subjects for their photographic studies. As for animals, although she repeated endlessly their desire to go on safari in order to photograph, not shoot animals, she blithely reports shooting a variety of game, both big and small during their African travels. As she tells it, she and Martin would set up the cameras and provoke animals to charge to they could capture the charges on film. If an animal came too close, however, they would of course have to "bring it down", be it a rhino, elephant, or lion. And they couldn't escape the responsibility of providing fresh meat for their native porters, so of course she had to develop her hunting skills and shot many a Thompson's gazelle along the trail. If you can set aside such flaws and stomach-turning gaffes, the book can be an amazing account of the lives of perhaps the most adventurous couple of recent times.

      5 out of 5 stars Unforgettable.......2005-11-06

A friend gave me this book almost 30 years ago, and I find that I read it every year or so.... it's inspirational and life-affirming. Every time I read it, I find myself wondering if it could really be true. It is a lovey, readable tale of two young mid-western Americans who find each other, and head out to explore the world. The love story is just as compelling as the adventure story. I find that I reach for this book at times in my life when I need to find an escape into a larger world... one full of faith and hope and openess to what's around the next corner....

5 out of 5 stars The Best TRUE Adventure I've Ever Read.......2004-01-31

I first read "I Married Adventure" when I took this book out of my local library as a student. It fascinated me. I was pleasantly surprised when I found it to still be available.

Martin and Osa Johnson lived what they wrote. There is no pretense in their lives. They were true adventurers. They made a great contribution to the world of adventure. I'm sure they inspired many to further their boundaries.

This is an adventure that will cause you to hold your breath while reading, wondering how they got through.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to live outside their border. It's breathtaking!

        Book Description

From acclaimed author Mitch Cullin, whose previous books have been described by The New York Times as "brilliant and beautiful...rhythmic and telling," comes Undersurface, a chilling page-turner that recalls Alfred Hitchcock and novelist Kobo Abe at his most existential. Probing the complex relationship between outward appearances and inward states of profound want, it is a story that at turns is intriguing and sordid, poetic and allusive, told in a compact yet intense manner, offering a distinctive take on a society far more complicated than what Americans often gather from their televisions and newspaper headlines.

Based roughly on real events, this fictional account follows its oblique protagonist as he moves through the loitering subculture found within public toilets and pornographic arcades, and, in the process, finds himself loosing everything he values, including his own grip on reality.

A mystery of both memory and mistaken identity, Undersurface is a starkly written, haunting novel about double lives, compulsion, and human sexuality, where secret desires lead to devastating circumstances.

As the carefully crafted plot twists in ever suspenseful directions, we are drawn toward a startling, possibly unavoidable conclusion, one which resonates long after the book has been set aside.

Complimented by the richly evocative imagery of artist Peter I. Chang, MITCH CULLIN has once again written a subtly detailed, affecting, provocative story that explores the sometimes harsh days of a man on the run, the enigmatic pull of the taboo, and the nature of transient life amongst a growing suburban culture.

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars Creepy Cool.......2004-08-26

This book freaked me out but in the best possible way. It was like reading a Cronenberg movie except it offered far more insight into the human side of the character than expected. On one level this is a groundbreaking novel exploring the complicated mentality of male sexuality and on another level it reads like a mystery but the outcome isn't as important as the journey. Dark stuff. Recommendeded with reservations, but it stuck in my head like few books have.

        5 out of 5 stars A genre-melding ride.......2003-04-09

As unsettling as it is revealing, Undersurface is bold attempt at merging Hitchcockian mystery with social commentary. On one level it is a simple tale of mistaken identity, in which the protagonist finds himself living in sewage tunnels to escape capture for a crime he may or may not have committed; on another level it is a heartbreaking, sometimes surreal character study of a man losing his grip on reality. More than anything, it is the insight into the character's mind that drives this novel along. To say more could ruin the ending. I'll only add that this vivid, finely written book won't be for everyone, but for those who enjoy the melding of genres and well-envisioned plot twists it certainly won't be a disappointment.

        3 out of 5 stars Good intentions....bad plot.......2003-04-04

I wanted to like this book, I truly did. But in the end, it left me completely unfulfilled.
Here is my main problem with the book. Many novels, as does this one, start in the present and then flashback to the past to see how the protagonist actually made it to this current place. However, in order for this to work, a reader's attention must be grabbed at the very beginning to make us truly wonder and care about how things became the way they are. In this book, the present (as it starts out) is very bland and uneventful. The past, as we find out later, actually had some good twists and turns. However, by the time we get to the previous events, we really don't care about the main character or his predicament.
While some of the descriptions are quite good and vivid, this short book will leave most readers completely unmoved.

5 out of 5 stars An Inspiration for a Young Girl.......2006-10-15

I remember our teacher in the fourth grade reading this book to us, chapter by exciting chapter, each one leaving us on the edge or our seats, quite literally. I thought Osa Johnson was wonderful. I had no idea that women could be like her and do the amazing things she did. I was certain that I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. You see, when I was in the fourth grade it was only 1949 and women still didn't do the things Osa did. As it turns out, I didn't either, but it didn't stop me from dreaming.

I read the book to my own children, chapter by chapter and they were just as spellbound as my 4th grade classroom had been. They couldn't wait for bedtime each night so they could hear the next chapter. I couldn't wait either...it was as if I were a child again, right along with them.

I'm buying the book for my grandsons now. They are 6 and 11 and I don't think it's a minute too soon for them to be caught up in the story of these adventurers.

        4 out of 5 stars I Married Adventure review.......2003-12-30

Though I am biased, since Osa Johnson was my grandfather's aunt, I have read this book a couple of times and have always found it to be well-written and easy to relate to. Osa was a woman ahead of her time, driving a truck, hunting fowl for dinner, and planting a garden with the help of hired African men, only to see it trampled by elephants. This story really gives a clear picture of what it was like to be one of very few American women traveling in undeveloped parts of the world in the 1920s and 30s.

For one man, football is more than just a fantasy...

As seen on ESPN's Cold Pizza

Fantasy football -- one of America's most popular, and profitable, virtual pastimes -- became a way of life for sports humorist and author Mark St. Amant. Utterly fed up with never having won his league championship, St. Amant abandoned a successful advertising career to make fantasy football his full-time job, embarking on a sprawling reconnaissance mission to discover what really makes this game, and its 20 million players, tick. Committed is the result of St. Amant's ranting, relentless, and strategic pursuit of his own obsession.

In this wickedly funny and deeply informative work, St. Amant offers readers an all-access sideline pass to his wild, unprecedented fantasy football season, and to the hobby itself. From its humble beginnings in a New York hotel in 1962 to a multibillion-dollar business today, from local and online leagues to high-stakes, cutthroat Las Vegas competitions, St. Amant lays bare the facts, figures, and fanaticism of fantasy football in all its multidimensional glory.

            3 out of 5 stars Entertaining but...........2007-08-23

I liked this book but at times it dwelled to much on the authors own FF team from 2004. The stories about the FFL's he visited was interesting and there was some good technical information here and there, all with a humorous twist.

You know how it is when someone insists on telling you about their Fantasy Football team? What if it was their Fantasy Team from three years ago? That's where this book gets a bit cumbersome for me but if you are interested in what it's like to be insane about Fantasy Football this is a good read.

            1 out of 5 stars Big Dissapointment.......2007-01-15

I received this as an XMas gift and can't get through it. The book feels forced and manufactured. There are points that are relatable but are painfully obvious, if you are a fantasy football player you are better off reading your league message board. Everyone can relate to the overzealous owner in their league, most overzealous owners don't try to write a book.

1 out of 5 stars Pay Bill Simmons His Money.......2007-01-15

Great concept, I found the book to be pretty uninspired and choppy. The author definitely was influenced by ESPNs Sports Guy Bill Simmons, reads like a less skilled Simmons rant. I wish I could agree with the other reviews.

            5 out of 5 stars I Hate Joe Horn.......2007-01-02

When you read this book, and as a fantasy football fan you must read this book, you will understand my title.
Lets give the author credit for having the stones to do what he did to write this book. I loved reading it and found to many examples of how my life was on display in this book.
I always measure a book by asking myself was I happy I bought this or do I wish I had gotten this from the library. I am happy I bought this.

            5 out of 5 stars Laugh-out-loud and Informative!.......2006-08-02

This book is both laugh-out-loud funny and informative at the same time. St. Amant, in his quest to win his Fantasy Football League (and with permission from a very loving and understanding wife), quit his job and delved into this misunderstood subculture. Through the course of the book, he takes the reader with him as he interviews Fantasy Football players of all ages, backgrounds, parts of the country, etc., as well as players in the NFL to examine why people play. He explores the beginnings of FF and the way it's portrayed in the media. All the while, he dispenses advice and strategies to FF newbies with humor and sensitivity.

While there has been a tremendous amout of "flux" in how agencies, artists and producers have chosen to be represented in the feature film indursty, this book will provide both novce and seasoned pros alike with information about a given actors popularity, or producer/director teams. Most importantly, it gives all readers a sense of scheduling and pace of production in feature films. It is a great resource to be kept and used to forward anyones careear. After using a friends, it was time to buy my own.

If you are an aspiring screenwriter seeking representation you need this directory! It not only contains most of the contact information you'll need, but many companies also list a "submission policy" which dictates how you should present your query. I have queried 20 agencies (of about 300 listed) and already got 2 rejection letters. That's good news, because it means that my letters actually got read by the person listed in the directory. Good luck getting your query letters read if you send them "To Whom It May Concern." You need names and this directory has them.

                        Book Description

Kurt St. Thomas, a die-hard fan, interviewed Nirvana for the first time in 1991, just as they were catapulted from alternative-rock obscurity to massive stardom. He found a group of musicians devoted to avoiding popular rock-star conventions and creating the kind of music they wanted to hear. But when he last spoke with them just two years later, the band seemed worn down- conflicted about their success, and about having an audience that was the epitome of everything they attempted to rebel against. And their lead singer's heroin addiction was painfully evident. In Nirvana: The Chosen Rejects, St. Thomas uses a wealth of sources to reconstruct Nirvana's rise and fall, including: -The musical influences that formed Nirvana's sound -Fascinating stories about the creation of their three albums, and of the ideas that shaped their songs -A complete discography, and an A-Z list of every Nirvana song officially released. The result is a unique look at the now legendary band, written with the authority, love, and respect of a die-hard fan.

"Doctor Saw Cobain's Suicide Coming" Newsday Ellis Henican; 04-10-1994.

                        Doctor Saw Cobain's Suicide Coming

                        Ellis Henican

The telephone rang Friday night at a doctor's office in Rome, Italy.

Dr. Osvaldo Galletta, who was working late, picked up the phone himself. "Of course," the doctor said. He remembered the musician from America, Kurt Cobain. It was barely a month ago that Cobain, his mind in a mile-deep coma and his belly full of drugs and alcohol, was wheeled into Galletta's hospital, which is the American Hospital in Rome.

Cobain was not expected to live through the night. But the doctor, with patience and a powerful stomach pump, managed to stabilize the musician's vital signs. And after a couple of days, the coma completely evaporated.

"Now, everything I have done has been useless," the doctor said.

Before last month's overdose, the Italian doctor, who is 59 years old, had never heard of Kurt Cobain. He had never listened to the music of the band Nirvana, and the whole concept of "grunge" was completely foreign to him.

But he knew a junkie when he met one.

"After he woke up, he told me it was an accident," the doctor said. "He said he had been confused. He had taken pharmaceuticals and alcohol together. He said it was just a mistake."

The doctor had his doubts. Cobain, he could tell, was a veteran needle-drug user. He could see that from the veins. And longtime drug users, the doctor knew, are rarely ignorant about the facts of pharmacology. "I made sure he had a room with no windows," the doctor said.

Cobain had the usual enablers around him. The wife, a former stripper named Courtney Love, was backing up the big-mistake theory of the overdose. So were the various Nirvana hangers-on who had rushed to the hospital in Rome. And when Cobain woke, he had the usual junkie's charm, enough of it at least to quiet the doctor's questions.

"He was very tender with his little girl, who is about 2 years old, I suppose," the doctor said. "He told me he was feeling much better. He said he was happy to be going home. I suggested he take a period of extended rest. I told him, `Nobody ever died from too much rest.' "

The doctor was right about that, too. When Cobain died last week at home in Seattle, it wasn't from too much rest. It was a single blast from a shotgun, which he had pointed directly at his own head.

"It does confirm my suspicions," the doctor said from Rome. "I don't know what you can do in cases like this."

Cobain's death at age 27 may not mean too much to people over 35. But to millions of unhappy young people across America, the songs of Nirvana said something loud and true. The sound fell somewhere between pop and punk. The band spoke to an alienated generation, especially to young people in their 20s, adrift with no jobs, no ambition, no future and little hope.

The album "Nevermind" sold 10 million copies and made Cobain a star. It also turned Seattle into the hottest music town in America and convinced young people everywhere to wear flannel shirts again. "Grunge," the music and the style was called.

Cobain, with his stringy blond hair and waifish physique, was the top grunge poster boy. He played guitar, sang and wrote most of Nirvana's songs. And he was, by all accounts, utterly unequipped to handle the band's phenomenal success.

Since the big album hit, he'd been spending most of his time shooting huge amounts of heroin, lying about his drug use and bemoaning the burdens of superstardom.

"Teenage angst has paid off well," he sang on the band's latest album, which came out last fall. "Now I'm bored and old."

He was, in fact, a new kind of pop idol, full of aches and pains and hopelessness. This is who young people look to, when their lives are not full enough.

Cobain said he had a terrible stomach disorder. But it never seemed to show up on any medical test.

He said he used heroin to "self-medicate" the stomach pain. He said, but nobody believed that explained his ferocious drug use.

In February of 1992, he married Courtney Love. She was loud and blond and pushy, everything Cobain was not. She had her own band, called Hole. After she married Cobain, Hole was signed to a million-dollar contract. The two of them were the John and Yoko of the 1990s. Or the Sid and Nancy, depending on how old you are.

Later that year, they had a baby, Frances Bean Cobain. Courtney said she was using herion during the pregnancy. Then, she denied she had said any such thing. After the baby was born, Cobain said he had given up his drug use once and for all.

That, of course, was a lie.

When Cobain got out of Dr. Galletta's hospital in Rome, he again announced that drugs were a thing of the past. Again, not quite true. He was binging so hard, his friends finally dragged him to a Los Angeles drug-rehab clinic. But he quickly checked himself out. He said he didn't need the help.

                        Yeah, right.

Despite all the lying, Cobain always had a special credibility with the fans. Partly, this was because of the angst-filled lyrics. Partly, it was his powerful singing voice. And partly, it was because his own early biography so mirrored so many of theirs.

He came out of Aberdeen, Wash., a ragged logging town where the timber mill jobs were disappearing. His parents divorced when he was 8. He was bounced among relatives who would grow quickly tired of him. Even in his middle-20s, Cobain still had the look of a kid who got beat up a lot in high school, a kid who had found his success in rock-and-roll and his solace in too many drugs.

"What a terrible message to leave for the people who loved him, the young people who loved his music," Dr. Galletta said, after hearing the news of Cobain's final hopeless step. "I hate to think he was moving in that direction all along."

1 out of 5 stars The Rome story, straight from the horse's mouth.......2005-02-20

Mary Ann, you're making up things. Kurt Cobain was suicidal, and tried to end his life in Rome. There's no disputing these facts. Dr. Osvaldo Galletta, the actual doctor who pumped Kurt's stomach in Rome and saved his life, knew Cobain was flight risk, and gave him a hospital room with no windows because of it. He knew Cobain was nothing more than a charming junkie from the moment he spotted his veins and heard Cobain speak after he was saved from his coma. Dr. Galletta also said that saving Cobain's life was a waste, which was so funny yet so true. Now THERE'S some brutal honesty for ya.

And here's the link, Mary Ann. Lose the denial:

1 out of 5 stars not as good as it could have been.......2005-02-02

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was good but lacked a little in detail. It skimmed over some parts when discussing various events the band experienced. At first, I thought this was because so much has been written about these before. But as I read on, it appears more that the author either didn't do his research, or didn't do enough of it. When it comes to Kurt's experiences with Courtney, no mention is made of Courtney's actions, leaving the reader to believe Kurt was always at fault. Also, it glossed over the heartbreak Kurt suffered when Frances was taken away and what they both went through to get her back. Considering what an impact this had on all three of them, the lack of information is questionable, at best. He also never mentions the fact that the doctor who treated Kurt during the Rome incident said there was no evidence Kurt had swallowed ANY, let alone 50, Rohynols. He simply goes by Courtney's comments around this event. When it comes down to Kurt's death, not only does the author always refer to it as a suicide, which has not been 100% proven to many people, but he gets his 'facts' wrong. Kurt was not disfigured so badly that he could only be identified by his fingerprints. He did not barricade himself in the greenhouse; the stool in front of the back door - where there was no way of gaining entry as it was a balcony - was a small barstool that couldn't block anything even if someone could scale the balcony. Kurt's wallet wasn't lying open next to his body; a policeman stated HE had opened the wallet and put it there when they were taking pictures. Also, Wendy didn't make the missing person's police report; Courtney has admitted that she called the police pretending to be Wendy. The author states that Wendy, Courtney, and Krist decided where Kurt's ashes would be spread. As far as anyone knows, besides Courtney, some of Kurt's ashes were made into several tsatsas by monks in Ithaca, NY, some were buried under a tree at the Lake Washington house (both of these according to Courtney), and some were allegedly spread on the Wishkah River. No one really knows what happened to Kurt's ashes, except for Courtney. When one looks at these items the author either didn't include, or made major mistakes about, it makes it hard to take any of the rest of the book as truth. While it's a good read - at least the first part of it - there are many other books out there about Kurt that are much better.

4 out of 5 stars Delivers as Promised.......2007-01-03

The subtitle of this book is: The 100 Most Influential Management Books You'll Never Have Time to Read. The first thing I did was go through the table of contents and do a mental note of how many of these books I had heard of (about 85-90), then I did a count of those I had read (17). Such is part of the fun of looking at any sort of list of what is considered "best."

I think the key criterion for "best" in this case is most influential, which helps me make more sense of what is included and some of what isn't.

The book is useful in that each chapter (one for each of the 100 books) follows the same template, sharing a brief summary, the key ideas the book highlighted and a bit of context - how the book fits into the world and the impact it has had.

If you are looking to become more conversant in some classic business literature and ideas, or if you are looking for a guide to help you fill the gaps in your own library, this book would be a good choice.

It might not be a book to sit down with at the fire, but it is worth considering and taking a look at.

                              4 out of 5 stars Needs a better index.......2005-07-12

This book is similar to the Ultimate Business Library, the latest edition of which summarizes less books (75 in the latest edition rather than 100), but is longer. The Ultimate Business Library also has a better index. This book's index is only an author index, which is necessary because the summaries are arranged alphabetically by book title rather than by author. The Ultimate Business Library, on the other hand, arranges them alphabetically by author. Personally, I would prefer them to be arranged chronologically. This book also does not show the publication year of the books in the table of contents. So, it is difficult to read them in chronological order. The Ultimate Business Library wins out in this respect as well. I still like The Best Business Books Ever, but I wish I had bought the Ultimate Business Library instead.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent review of the 100 most influential business books.......2003-11-03

BBBe provides a two-page summary of the hundred most influential business books. The mix is eclectic, including modern authors, such as Peter Senge and Peter Drucker, as well as historical writers, such as Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz and John Stuart Mill.

Probably someone will complain that this is just another `Cliff Notes' of business books, but it provides an interesting history of attitudes towards business and a starting point for anyone looking for a guide to business books worth reading.
