Christopher Andersen's biography Jackie After Jack: Portrait of the Lady is one steamy read. Andersen claims that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had affairs with Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, William Holden, Warren Beatty, Bobby Kennedy, and JFK's former deputy secretary of defense. He writes that she battled anorexia, was both cheap and greedy, wore big sunglasses partly to cover up bruises inflicted by Aristotle Onassis, tried to sign Princess Diana to a book contract, offered Camilla Parker Bowles $2 million to tell all, and dropped Michael Jackson, whose book she edited, when he stood accused of pederasty. Andersen suggests that the cancer that killed Jackie may have been related to her habits: 40 to 60 cigarettes a day, four decades of carcinogenic black hair dye, and countless amphetamine and carcinogenic steroid injections in the 1960s. Many of the juiciest stories come from anonymous sources, and, according to Newsweek, Brando's biographer claims the alleged Jackie tryst never happened. Some readers may feel that Andersen's breezy assertion that Castro murdered JFK may not fully settle the question. But many will want to check out what ex-People magazine writer Andersen has to say. --Tim Appelo

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic!!!.......2006-06-21
What a fantastic book! One of the best i have ever read.
I`m very interested in books about Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis and this was great.
The writer Christopher Andersen seems to be very serious and
is not just writing gossip, he has done a great job, intervjuing
a lot of people who knew Jackie.
I`ts about JFK, politics, her children, friends, drugs, Onassis,
her work at Doubleday and Viking, her grandchildren, it's fantastic that Christopher A has spoken to so many people. After reading this book you really see Jackie O in a different light. I`m very glad i have this book in my collection.
There are 62 black and white photos in the book.
She wasn't perfect but she was polished.......2006-04-08
There was alot of intrigue in Jackie Kennedy's personal life in New York after JFK died. In fact, alot of it was like a soap opera with all its innuendos and intrigue. Jackie had alot of attractive qualities ... and she did things that weren't so attractive .... because she was human. Admiration is complex. One can admire many things about someone but not others. It's fascinating to uncover that underneath it all, she was human.
THE JACKIE WE NEVER KNEW.......2005-09-23
After the tragedy in Dallas, Jackie Kennedy became America's national hero and inspiration. Author Christopher Andersen takes us into a fascinating and often controversial journey into the real Jackie. The book wastes no time in getting to the action. It begins just seconds after John Kennedy has been shot. No story could be more heartbreaking than the the tragic journey back to Washington, DC and the days after Kennedy's death. According to Andersen, both Jackie and John relied heavily on Max Jacobson, also known as Dr. Feelgood, to relieve their pains and stresses. Jackie was kept well sedated during the funeral to become the brave grieving widow who inspired the world. JACKIE AFTER JACK is a surprising revelation. The widowed Jackie has numerous affairs often with married men and is always drawn to wealthier men. She shatters her golden image by marrying the wealthy and much older Aristotle Onassis. Jackie is portrayed as a woman who demanded loyalty and would end friendship over any perceived slight. Her shopping sprees and extravances were a strain to both her husbands. Although the book can weaken one's admiration for Jackie, it doesn't last long. By the end of the book, no one can feel anything but love and respect for a very remarkable woman. It's a fascinated and well-researched book.
A More Human Approach to an Icon.......2003-02-02
My favorite part about this book is the fact that it gave such a refreshing look at someone who could, so easily, be idealized. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was human & possessed all the failings of a human being. I don't think she saw herself as anything else, & reportedly, could be very self-deprecating among her friends. The Kennedys & all of their family will forever fascinate our imaginations, but this book was a look at a very real woman, who withstood many challenges. She was able to present herself to the world as almost superhuman, which may have been her greatest failing. As they say, everyone is fascinated by power & strength, but too often rejoice in seeing those who possess those qualities topple from grace.
Jackie After Jack: Book Review.......2001-11-28
This is a very good book, the author seems to bring Jackie O to life right before you. You see all sides of the most famous First Lady in America's history. You see the person behind the famous smile and sunglasses, her grief and depression after JFK's murder, her restless traveling and fascinating and ultimately unsatisfactory marriage to Ari Onassis, her rediscovering herself after Ari's death and her final years with the true love of her life, Maurice Templesman. The author makes you realize that this was a real life person, not some Goddess from Mt. Olympus. She was a flawed human being, but then again, aren't we all? I highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn about this fascinating lady.

Skateboard Families won't mind this.......2003-05-15
Skateboarding can sometime get a bit rough and crude - but this book is AOK family material. Great pictures.
a great book to read in your spare time.......2003-01-03
this book is really great. i bought it because it has many pictures, it is very detailed, and it shows how difficult one day could be for the great Tony Hawk.Tony is a big inspiration to many people including me. So, if your child wants to read something that shows how much work they should put into a day, they should read this book and see how much Tony works for people every day. Anyone who likes skateboarding should buy this book.
The best book in the world!!!.......2002-10-19
This book displayed an exuberant amount of beauty and color about skateboarding as it is. He has been my idol since I first learned to walk and after reading this book it has brought up my hopes of being a carnie. I beleive whoever reads this book will have the same opinion. It has changed my life's perspective on how tennis players are so awesome!!...
oh by the way, Paige, you're hot
Mom says 'Hurray!'.......2002-09-18
Finally, a behind the scenes look at my favorite extreme sport figure. Not only do my kids love Tony BUT I LOVE TONY.
He makes it all look so easy, but reading his tour diary gave me a real sense of what its like to be one of the top skateboarders. All those trips and award shows and broken bones and screaming mobs-- and the proud and loving father of his own kids, while bringing so much fun to everyone elses life.
Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I remember Tony from when I was a kid. I used to skate around on my little yellow banana board.
Thanks Tony for so many years of great fun, cool tricks and for the glimpse into your life. Keep it up! And GREAT PHOTOS!!! Sure to please your favorite skateboard fan!

Origins of Neuroscience: A History of Explorations into Brain Function
ASIN: 0195064917 |
Book Description
For a century, the neuron doctrine has been the basis for our concepts of nervous organization and brain function. Formulated in 1891 by Wilhelm Waldeyer, it stated that the cell theory applies to the nervous system. Santiago Ramon y Cajal, Spain's greatest scientist, was its main architect; his main tool was a capricious nerve cell stain discovered by Camillo Golgi. This book reviews the original papers on which the neuron doctrine was based, showing that the evidence came from a much wider base of contributions than is generally realized, including such diverse and brilliant personalities as Albrecht Kolliker, Sigmund Freud, Wilhelm His, August Forel, Fritdjof Nansen and Gustav Retzius. Furthermore, many questions about terminology of the parts of the neuron and about the organization of neurons into reflex pathways and networks were raised and debated, questions that remain relevant to this day. Electron microscopical studies in the 1950s appeared to confirm the classical doctrine, but subsequent studies have revealed complexities that were not anticipated. This book reviews these new studies against the background of the classical work, and suggests some new directions for revising our concept of the neuron as a basis for the functional organization of the nervous system.

Mottetorum quinque vocibus (Venice, 1588)
Customer Reviews:
Good example of practical edition.......1999-02-14
Rilegato.

Using science to make decisions for business.......2007-02-19
Nothing is done in business these days without using research to make decisions. The days of simply using hunches and intuition are just about about gone. It really is a jungle out there, and research is one of your rifles. This book shows you why research is important, how to do it, and how to apply what you've found. Research, if done correctly, can help you minimize the variables which can destroy you, or accentuate the factors which can help you meet your mission objectives. No matter what size your business is, you can apply these principles to increase your chances of success. The book is very expensive, but so is failure. Pardon the cliche', but an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.
Research Resource Feedback.......2007-01-04
Cooper's Business Research Methods was easy to read, yet provided a high level of research processes and methodology for use in a PhD program.

Book Description
Lind/Marchal/Wathen: Basic Statistics for Business and Economics 5e is a derivative of the best-selling STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES IN BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS, 12/e offering the essential topics of statistical tools and methods delivered in a student friendly, step-by-step format. The text presents concepts clearly and succinctly with a conversational writing style. All statistical concepts are illustrated with solved applied examples immediately upon introduction. Modern computing tools and applications are introduced, though the text maintains a focus on presenting statistics content as opposed to technology or programming methods, and the fifth edition continues as a ‘students’ text with increased emphasis on interpretation of data and results.
Customer Reviews:
Review of Basic Statistics.......2007-02-20
This is a well written and illustrated text book that describes the working of statistics. Definitions are placed in boxs within the text so the defination of a term is where you read the uses of the term. Review questions are also place within the text so the question follows the definition and explation of the statitistical information being taught. The book also uses web sites for information and examples, software programs such as Excel, to add to the learning experience. Included is a CD with power point lessons, and sample quizes.
Good Book but..........2006-10-19
Yes, put all the extra features together, namely the student CD and the Visual Statistics together, this seems like a well-put-together solution for a beginner statistics course. However, it needs some help. The book could be more thoroughly indexed. Visual Statistics software does not work properly even with updates. Sentence such as "The mean of the sampling distribution of the sample mean is obtained by summing the various sample means and dividing the sum by the number of samples" is not intuitive. This book has potential to be great, but it will take better teaching techniques than complex statistics talk.
introductory stats.......2006-07-05
The book is essentially a standard introductory probability and statistics course, with an emphasis on the statistics. The business and economics in the title is mostly reflected in the examples given in the text, which have that orientation.
There is also no emphasis on formal proving of various maths results. The typical reader is not expected to be a maths major, and probably does not need it.
A useful feature is the CD that accompanies the book. It lets the reader easily use a computer to handle the tedious data inputting and number crunching.

Customer Reviews:
Moderately Dreadful.......2004-06-03
'Business Research Methods' is an expensive and unhelpful textbook. Chances are if you are reading this book it will be for a collegiate research class. Do not even think of buying this for use outside of school; there are many more useful and practical research books available at much more reasonable prices.
I used this in a graduate research methods class, and found it devoid of much practical information, instead being filled with a lot of meaningless doubletalk that has (unfortunately) come to dominate a high percentage of social science textbooks in the last twenty years. The advice on research and study design is useful for only extremely narrow types of studies, and may or may not help a student prepare for a thesis or dissertation (I am guessing it will not help more people than will find it helpful.)
To add insult to injury the book is patronizing and tends to talk down to students particularly in the insultingly stupid and simplistic faux case studies it uses. In particular, the 'MindWriter' study with "Myra Wines" reads more like a very poorly written soap opera than legitimate business case study, and insults the intelligence of students. (Particularly galling is the wholly implausible situation in which Myra finds herself solving an expended munition problem in the Army. Clearly from reading this, the authors should know more about their subject matter before creating these vignettes.) Most people who use this book could do entirely without these manufactured, extremely politically correct case studies. They in no way enhance learning.
Another major issue is the actual presentation of the text. McGraw Hill should be ashamed of the way this book looks. There are random text boxes breaking up the chapters all over the place (most often with useless information), pointless and often indecipherable flowcharts abound (an excellent example of this is the questionable flow of lines on Exhibit 3-7, 'Research Proposal Process', or the labyrinthine Exhibit 5-1, 'Ethical Issues and the Research Process', neither of which help make anything clearer), and extremely poor font and color choices. Here I refer to the dubious decision to use red ink to print inset quotations. Evidently McGraw Hill doesn't know that in many studies, red has been found to be one of the most difficult to read colors, and detracts from comprehension. Besides that, what's the point? I can read black ink just as well, it costs less, and it is already inset so I can see it is differentiated at a glance. None of that, however, is as bad as the selection of pink paper for many of the ancillary sections (normally case studies and the like) sprinkled liberally throughout the book at inconvenient places. This is dreadful. Not only is this difficult to read, but it is hard to highlight. Of course all these things make the book vastly more expensive. Textbook publishers would do well to knock off the fancy typesetting tricks and get back to basics while making their books less expensive. I don't mind paying $136.00 for a book, but I do want to get a good value. (Of course this isn't the only textbook that has fallen into this trap.)
All told I gave this book two stars. It really is a sub par book, and I did consider giving it one star, but it occasionally contains a real gem of a thought that makes it more worthwhile than a single star book would be. I believe that this book is in dire need of a good editor. It is 857 pages long, and could easily be reduced to 300 pages by sorting the wheat from the chaff. At 300 pages this would probably be a very good and practical book, at 857, it is obese. If you have a choice of book to use for a given course, I would not select this one. It is of limited utility and it requires vastly too much effort to glean required knowledge. Avoid if possible.

Book Description
This text is a project management text that focuses on "high technology." The text is brief and has more applied vs. theoretical coverage. The text will focus on traditional project management topics, i.e., project adoption, planning, scheduling, and implementation, however, Olson will look at these topics from an IS or software perspective.
Customer Reviews:
A good start..........2002-03-12
Olson's text lays down the fundamental bricks of a solid IT project manager. This book covers a wide variety of topics -- everything from financial analysis (cost/benefit, NPV, etc.) to the approaches of the systems development life cycle.
Although I'm sure Olson has received many deserved acclaims for his writings in this field, I think this text leaves a little to be desired. It is a very impersonal read, oftentimes forgetting that superb personnel skills are essential to the up-and-coming project manager. It is a very thick, dense text, and although it is not even 300 pages, you sometimes feel that you're sifting through a phonebook to find the scarce relevant information. At times, it can even be quite repetitive, which is a true feat for such a thin book.
I got the impression that Olson had very little experience in the area of IT project management, often referring to outside (3rd party) studies and hypothetical examples to back up his main ideas. The text could have used a good deal more real-world examples and insight from professionals in this line of work -- not just other professors who study it.
Overall, it isn't a great book, but you can do worse I suppose. If I weren't required to read this for a class, I would have definitely picked up a different IT project management book by an author in the actual industry. This is a good starting point for a book in this field, but I will definitely want to supplement it with a more encompassing book by an accredited author from the IT workplace.
