Book Description
Former President Jimmy Carter has won the respect and affection of millions for his long and illustrious career as a humanitarian, a peacemaker, and an active promoter of human rights around the world. The Nobel Committee recognized President Carter’s remarkable achievements by awarding him the Peace Prize in October 2002 for his accomplishments fostering peace during his presidency and his tireless work after leaving office monitoring elections, promoting peaceful resolutions to conflict, and helping provide food, shelter, and healthcare to the world’s poor.
Now, in
The Personal Beliefs of Jimmy Carter, readers have for the first time in one volume the complete text of his spiritual autobiography,
Living Faith, in which President Carter shares the values and experiences that have shaped his life, and
Sources of Strength, fifty-two of his favorite Bible lessons that he has taught at his hometown church in Plains, Georgia, over the decades. These radiant works beautifully capture how President Carter has transformed his deep religious faith into an enduring course of action that has brought life and hope to those most in need. Bestsellers when they first published, these two books are even more resonant today as we continue to search for the answers to life’s most meaningful questions.

The Personal beliefs of Jimmy carter.......2006-11-05
I have read most of his books and find them all to be well written and this one is stands up to the test.
It's horrible to see these attacks on Jimmy Carter..........2004-10-24
It really is awful to see ideological conservatives give a critique of a book they haven't even read here at Amazon.
One went as far as to claim that the only thing Carter did that was worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize was the progress he made at Camp David.
Have they been so blinded by war and hate that they can't even look toward Carter's admirable work in Habitat for Humanity as a basis for him winning this prestigious award?
They obviously must be. They certainly are dedicated to crushing the image of someone who represents solving problems with great love and effort, rather than with destruction and arrogant minsunderstanding.
But I recommend this book for someone with an open enough mind to see how wonderful a human being Jimmy Carter is. Regardless of your partisan bias.
He tried.......2004-06-03
During the Carter Administration, President Carter had to deal with the deaths of his mother, sister, and brother, and that was near the start of his four years of Presidency. Then there was the Hostage Crises in Iran. President Carter had to try anything, and everything to get the hostages. It cost the lives of several soldiers when thier helicopter crashed in the desert. Essentially, President Carter got a raw deal. He was not reckognized by those who came home from Iran, or anybody else in the United States, as the saviour. President Reagan got that glory. And, at president Reagan's Inaugural Ball/Dinner, he did not even mention President Carter. This may sound like a put down of both administrations, but it is not. Both men had their faults, as does today's President Bush. I have the ultimate respect for President Carter. For somebody who will be 80 October 1, it does not surprise me that he is still constructing houses, taking care of the other persons, etc.
Personal Beliefs of an An Honest President And Peanut Farmer.......2004-03-23
Nobel Peace Prize winner and humanitarian President Carter explains how certain events have influenced his life in this excellent autobiography. Although the book contains the words of a man that is not afraid to speak the truth, he does not go into details of the failed attempt to rescue American hostages in Iran. He micromanaged the rescue team from the White House, instead of empowering his men in the field to make any decisions. Unlike other presidents, he has not been bought off by corporate America.

Have Kleenex in hand.......2005-06-02
This book is written to help you feel as if the subject (Annette) is sitting in your living room telling you her story. And what a story it is!
Annette, a 28 year old woman with two little girls, is pregnant with twins when she finds out she has breast cancer. She takes you with her on her journey through surgeries, chemo, radiation, and all of the emotional and physical ups and downs that go with it. She uses humor to deal with negativity. She relies on her spiritual belief that families are forever and that the soul does not end with death.
Mary in Florida writes:
I finished the book and I am crying my eyes out!!! What a tremendous testimony Annette shared through the book. Her life message sent an amazing story of encouragement, faith, hope, and love. I know that others will be touched and encouraged by reading it. I wish everyone had her courage and strength.

Book Description
Musica getutscht (Basel, 1511) is the earliest printed treatise on musical instruments in the West. Written by a priest and chapel singer named Sebastian Virdung, it provided rudimentary instruction on playing three instruments: the clavichord, the lute and the recorder. This early ‘do-it-yourself’ manual of instruction not only tells us about music-making in that era, it also illumines other aspects of society in the years just before the Reformation. Its author communicates in a popular style, choosing a mixture of media: a written text in the guise of an informal conversation, coupled with woodcut illustrations and visual aids. Enthusiasts of early music and its performance as well as historians of art, society and the German language will welcome Beth Bullard’s substantial introduction and annotations, which help explain the text of this important work and its place in intellectual history.

Epic and classic.......2003-05-27
This is one of the greatest instructional manuals every written on chess. It has that "chess magic" that I have found in only a few books. Suetin was a great writer. This book teaches you chess, focusing on the opening and the transition to the middlegame, showing you common themes and ideas. There is a lot of text, which explains the chess ideas which are being fleshed out, and then he provides illustrative games with brief annotations displaying that theme. There are over 350 games presented. For instance, he will tell you that many short games are won due to black's weakness at f7. He then will show you games of whatever opening--be it queen's gambit or the pirc--and will display how the f7 point was weak. This is a marvelous instructive method, as the reader begins to see themes in his own games. Other books have tried to do this as well, but one senses that Suetin really scored with this book and this method. It isn't like a lot of chess books of miniatures, that classify them by opening. Rather, the book is classified by themes, but there are a huge number of illustrative games that hammer the theme into your sub-conscious. But don't get the idea that there isn't a lot of text; there is, but it seems Suetin wanted you to play through the games themselves on your won, with fairly sparse annotations. So, you aread explanatory text, then play games, which have brief annotations. And something magic happens. If you have this book, as well as his other books "Three Steps to Chess Mastery" and "A Contemporary Approach to the Middlegame," you are set for the middlegame. And I must add that his book on the Ruy Lopez, "The Complete Spanish," is a compellingly beautiful opening treatise as well. The present book is quite rare, but definitely essential for the intermediate player.

Customer Reviews:
Helpful for me!.......2002-06-01
This book lists sources of funding or assistance for both profit and non-profit organizations. Naturally, most of these funds are allocated to community development, social issues, conservation and economic development. Each listing includes relevant information such as the contact person, address and phone number, proposal deadlines, information on amounts previously given, and the required qualifications for receiving the funds. Resources can be in the form of cash awards, endowments, continuing support, grants, loans, matching funds, consulting services or technical assistance for operating budgets, seed money, emergency funds, building, equipment, research or special projects, for example. Most sources are restricted to certain geographical regions and these are categorized in the book under its respective state. However, there are some programs which fund national and international projects and these are categorized by topic, such as: agriculture, finance, health, conservation and real estate.

Customer Reviews:
Misleading is and understatement!!!.......2007-07-25
First of all I agree with what everyone has already said but I must reinterate what a waste this book is. I have had this book sitting around for a while and decided to take a look since I am lokking to start my own business. CAN YOU SAY REDUNDANT? How on gods green earth did this book even get published? It is a lot of nothing over and ove again not to mention that it is all about loans not free money! There are about two pages in the intro about how to write a proposal and thats it. Supposedly there are sample application forms but unless my book is missing something there is none of that either.... not that it matters. WHATEVER YOU DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MOMEY ON THIS BOOK. I noticed that the author has another book on Amazon called "Free money when you're unemployed" Lord only knows what is in there!!??
No Free Money!!!!!!!.......2007-07-15
I have been a small business consultant for years and have followed up on many of the claims about "guaranteed" sources for grants and start-up money from government and other sources. If you are starting a for-profit business unless you have a new technology of interest to the government or are creating a significant number of new jobs in a depressed area, there is very little possibility of obtaining a grant. Most are far better off putting their time and resources into planning and starting up their business than pursuing grants and spending money on books, lists and other meida like this claiming to have the "secret" to getting free money. Most, like this, only provide lists and links to places to apply for grants which do not apply to the vast majority of people. Save your money and go see your local Small Business Development Center from some real free assistance in starting a business.
I totally agree with all the other complaints.......2006-11-11
Since you can tell how I feel about this book based on the title of my review, I won't repeat everything that's been said by the other reviewers so far. However, I will say that, as a small business owner who tries very hard to spend money wisely, I am SO NOT HAPPY that I spent close to $20 for this book that is of absolutely no value to me. I don't want to throw it away, but I certainly can't see where anybody would want to buy it if I re-sold it. This book was a total waste of money--if there were a 0-star rating, I'd give it that without hesitation.
I wish I had read these reviews.......2001-03-16
I wish I had seen these reviews for this book. It is worthless in terms of information on obtaining funds for small business. If your handicapped or a minority it might be of some use for loans. Nothing relevent for myself as an individual with no startup capital.
Ways to Call Local Government Agencies for Loan Applications.......2000-08-14
I rarely rate a book as one star. This book is the exception.
My favorite gripe about books is that some of them have misleading titles designed to make them more appealing to book buyers. That certainly describes this book. The bulk of the programs listed in the book are LOAN programs. I don't think loans are a source of free money. Do you? The author never explains why these are sources of free money.
Usually, when I find a misleading title, I still find a mostly worthwhile book underneath. This book is the exception. Almost all of the programs listed come from either the Small Business Administration, the Agriculture Department, or Housing and Urban Development. Each of these organizations will help you over the telephone or send you material on the programs they make available. Web sites are also available.
Why, then, is the book so thick? That's because it lists the same agencies at the same address over . . . and over . . . and over . . . and over. You get the idea. Properly organized, this book could have been condensed to about 20 percent of its size, and would have been easier to use. That would have reduced the costs to the readers and the profits to the publisher and author. Can't have that, can we?
Let's look at the next problem. This book was published in this edition in 1996. There's been a lot of change in government programs since then. So undoubtedly, a lot of this information is out of date. A book like this should be updated at least every two years.
Finally, once you find out who to talk to or write to, what do you do? The book claims to help you design your application and use your grant properly. I found the material on that subject to be very brief and general. Few would find it adequate to succeed in even getting an SBA loan. Lengthy books are written on that subject alone!
If you want to get help from these agencies, find someone who has experience with them to help you (like your banker, attorney, accountant or neighbor). Even if you need to call information in your state to get the telephone number of the relevant governmental agency, that will still cost a lot less than this book.
Do not buy, and do not read this book.
If ever I have seen an example of a miscommunication about how to improve a business, it is in the form of this book. I encourage you to consider ways to redesign your business's basic operating model (perhaps through more outsourcing) as a way to reduce your need for capital, as a substitute to taking on loans from the Federal Government.

Book Description
Getting a small business up and running is a daunting proposition. The Risk-Free Entrepreneur teaches readers how to create a million or even multi-million dollar business without committing any significant resources. How? By coming up with an idea for a viable product or service-while other companies supply the marketing, manufacturing, money, and staff. The Risk-Free Entrepreneur shows readers how to spot trends, find the right partners, and structure the deal. This book is for the entrepreneur who wants to own a million-dollar business-without a million hassles.
Customer Reviews:
Finally, there is hope.......2006-06-26
The Risk-Free Entrepreneur a great read for me for one major reason - I have several great ideas for products and companies but I don't have resources (mainly money) or the time to pull off the launch. So the ideas remain tucked away in my desk drawer, and I have never acted upon them.
But Debelak's book gives hope. By using Other People's Money (he refers to this philosophy as OPM), he immediately shifted my train of thought from how can I launch my own company to what one contact can I connect with at a company that gets me on my way?
Better yet, Debelak lays out good, easy action steps for the procrastinating entrepreneurs. He talks about targeting sales people inside a company with an idea or if you don't know where to turn, he points out resources such as the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). Upon reading, my initial fear was that despite the idea of Debelak's OPM philosophy, it still would make for a tough time getting through corporate chains of command, but he offers a great solution of suggesting a "market test" to a potential partner, a pilot of sorts that lowers the risk stakes. The Risk-Free Entrepreneur also offers a good template for setting the expectation of potential partners, as you can then control whether a test market was a success or not.
Debelak gives many examples of real people who have capitalized on the OPM philosophy and also takes you from the idea stage to how to come up with the final numbers for your contract. For those like me, who might be still worried that sharing a product or idea with another company to use "other people's money" would only set yourself up to have an idea stolen eventually, Debelak gives details on how to avoid this. such as "path to market" presentations on just how many complex details you are taking care of and the value you provide a company to help give them an edge in the marketplace. The book is a quick read, and a good one. It shifted my mind to take my ideas in a direction that I had no idea even really existed.
I wish it was better.......2006-06-03
I had some pretty high expectations for this book. Unfortunately I did not feel they were satisfied.
The book book seemed to choppy to be really useful. There were a lot of ideas but often they were presented in what seemed to be an incomplete manner.
Ideas such why a provider or marketer would want to do this type of deal were presented. This was good, what was lacking was more information about how to find these types of firms. Better case studies and resources would have been welcomed.
There were many very short case studies tucked into the margins of the book. Longer case studies would have been more useful.
There were some good references tucked into the margins as well. Unfortunately there is no bibliography so to find them you would need to thumb through all the pages. It would also have been nice to have a list of websites all in one place.
I also noticed one case study on a gift card business was also used in an earlier book by the same author. In the earlier book the business was criticized for not having a good business model and was used here as being a good business. That hurts credibility.
The book is cheap enough and does have some good information, so you might want to buy it. I would recommend the book "Go It Alone" as a better book on this subject.
