Warren Kozak has written the semi-biography of a man who is the proof that to every exception there is a cliche. Instead of the stern, austere, cold and inscrutable hasidic rabbis, Rabbi Besser comes off as a warm caring and very worldly (and involved) modern man. He is self-educated in many things and unlike most people, has an open ear for all opinions (even those he disagrees with).

He is the quintesential MENSCH in that he both knowledgeable and humble about who he is and what he knows. He doesn't try to run over you with his knowledge but lets it creep up on you. Kozak makes a major point when he talks about the Rabbi's ability to LISTEN, which is so under hyped in the 21st century where the attitude is: I am an expert in " " therefore you should listen to my opinion or your an idiot.

For those who (like me) grew up with European Grandparents (mine were Viennese Jews), there is an understated remembrance of people who were thoughtful about what they said and were willing to listen to the truth behind a arguement before making up their minds. There was also a stoicism that things are the way they are and you just have to learn to live with them, things could always be worse. Rabbi Besser has made a difference in many lives because he set out to live his own as a testament to all those who came before him (and perished in spasm of hatred that is still unintelligible to most of us). G-d bless him and grant him another hundred years.

Sweet, but Not Five Stars Worth of Sweet.......2005-09-26

I came across this book unexpectedly. It's a lovely story about a very special man and rabbi. But it's more out of the ordinary than extraordinary, though it's a story sweetly told and inspirational. I admire Rabbi Besser greatly from what I read, but the book itself is not even close to being great. A quick read and a gently inspiring story do not a five star book make.

This book provides a bit of insight into the story of Rabbi Besser. The author is successful in writing a biography of a great man without fanfare or noise. The story of Rabbi Besser's life is an inspiration to all of us. It demonstrates the power of faith, prayer and a life spent doing good deeds -- without the need for continuous recognition. Rabbi Besser sets an example just by being himself. Perhaps best summed up as doing the right thing. An excellent read.

This man is both rooted in tradition, from ancient sources, but lives now and for today. Life is about gaining wisdom, and we can all learn from Rabbi Besser how to do just that.

If I had to choose one book to take with me on a trip, this would be it. The style is written simply because the subject matter is so fascinating and speaks for itself. I have been privileged to meet the Rabbi and this book is just the tip of the iceberg. The sequel to this book should perhaps be written in encyclopedia form as there is so much more that can be written about Rabbi Besser's experiences. Wishing his entire family and him much luck.

I really recomend this book because it talks about Latina women including famous women who are Dominican, Puerto Rican, Mexican and from other Latin American countries.
This book includes famouse female Latina singers like Selena. I learned a lot about her, that she was born in 1971 and died in 1995. She had one brother and one sister. Selena had sold more than 35,000 CD'S before her unfortunate death.
This book has 11 chapters and 13 women are featured in each chapter. This book explains when the women were born and when they died and what they accomplished in their lives.
Another woman I will like to talk about is Julia Alvarez. She is a great Dominican writer. Alvarez won the 2002 Nebraska Book Award for ''Before We Were Free.'' Also Mrs. Alvarez wrote the book ''In the Time of the Butterflies'' to remember the real life murder of the Three Mirabals sisters who were assassinated for the opposition of the dictator Rafael Trujillo.
If you want to know more information about Selena, Julia Alvarez and other Latina women read ''The Book of Latina Women.''
I really recommened this book for anyone ages 10 and up.
This book meant a lot to me because it talks about women from my culture and my friends' cultures. It is also important for us to learn about successful women from many cultures. You can be someone like the Latina women from your culture;
these women are good role models for all of us.

Concise enough to be a reference guide, yet meaty enough I coudln't put it down, Sylvia Mendoza's choice of Latina women and the material she selects to highlight for each, make a compelling read. From Malinche (my favorite) to Selena, we learn who and what drove the lives, passions and successes of these amazing, but often overlooked women. From trailblazers to entertainers, doctors to activists and leaders, the glimpses into their lives educate and inspire. I'd love to read the same delightful sweep of 150 Latina men, 150 Black women, etc., etc.
This informative and entertaining and charming book is a must for EVERY library: town, school or home!

In the Arab Middle East, the contest is over "which", "whose", and "how much" democracy takes place within an existing contest over "which", "whose", and "how much" Islam must be given pre-eminence in the political and cultural sphere. There is a "Democracy" and there are "democracies." There is an "Islam" and there are "islams."

Larbi Sadiki deploys the conceptual tools of contemporary Western political philosophy and theory to articulate and defend some provocative theses. The book challenges Eurocentric conceptions of democracy that all-too-frequently display a lack of concern for specificity and context; analyzes and interrogates Orientalist and Occidentalist discourses on democracy; and considers some of the justifications for democracy in the global arena, giving space for self-representation by women and Islamists, among others. This book is very colorfully photographed. Every page shows teddy bears in different settings. My daughter, who is three, loves to find the ten differences in the different scenes. It is fun for her to see pages after pages of adorable teddy bears on trains, on beaches, in classrooms, etc. and it trains her eyes to notice differences. This book is a part of her bedtime routine.

Gave this series to a 6 and 9 year old last Fall. This is their favorite book. Educational, entertaining, and fun to find the "seach for" items. PLUS - they learned an incredible amount about Sea Life and Sea Animals - that they rememeber MONTHS later.Adults and children love this. Wonderful "hands on" book for kids!

The illustrations are fantastic and my son really loves to look for all the hidden objects (some of which are very hard to find). The text is really good also and we very highly recommend this whole series.

The author writes at a junior high school level. The book is too preachy (not every Notary is a Bible thumper) and filled with useless info. (such as the part she makes fun of messages/letters/emails she received from stupid people)

I enrolled in both a notary and loan signing agent seminar.I read this before the class took place and felt I got alot from it.It is nice to have this information before I start out on a new venture. If you don't have a friend to show you the ropes, this is your answer. I will use some of her ideas and feel it was worth my time & money.I felt iwas better prepared than the other students before the class began.

A must read for new Notaries and anyone starting a Notary Signing business. She tells you how to get started, how to notarize certain forms, how to put up your own website, etc. It is a wonderful companion to your state's Notary handbook.
