Book Review for "To the Golden Shore".......2007-06-25
This is an excellent, well-written book on the life of Adoniram Judson. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in missions or missionary biographies. Even though it is a fairly lengthy biography, I found it very fascinating and informative the whole way through.

To the Golden Shore is one of the most profound books I've ever read. The depth of dedication shown by Adoniram Judson and his family over the years of his ministry leaves me without words. It will break your heart and inspire you to make better use of your time on earth.
Every Christian should read this book.

Courtney Anderson has done a terrific job of recounting the life of Adoniram Judson. Anderson's biography takes you from Judson's birth in New England to his final days in Burma, making frequent use of personal accounts written by Judson and his three wives.
Leaving friends and family, believing you will never see them face to face again? Six years of labor before seeing a single convert? Dreaming for a church of ten native Burmese Christians? Facing the prospect of execution for making disciples? It is quite a humbling experience to read about the hardships of missionary life in the early to mid-1800s: long voyages at sea; sickness and disease; the death of infants and young children; long periods of separation from a spouse; imprisonment and war. Yet the Judsons were willing to suffer through all this and more for the sake of taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who had not yet heard. The life of Adoniram Judson makes very clear what it means to take up one's cross and follow Jesus, but it also shows that God's grace is sufficient for whatever may come.
I heartily recommend this book as a reminder of past missionary enterprises and an inspiration to future ones.

Gives Readers A First-Hand Insight To Bariatric Surgery.......2007-10-07
I was given a copy of this book by my sister about four months after I had RNY surgery. While I do not do much cooking and did not find the recipes of much use, I did find the book very entertaining and I was certainly able to relate to many of the things mentioned. My wife is Czech and prepares many Czech dishes for me that have proven to be more than adequate with respect to providing the necessary nutrition (as corroborated by my blood work); that and the fact that she does not allow me to do much of anything in the kitchen is why I have not found the author's recipes to be of much use.
As an engineer and one that loves to torture data, the one thing I would like to have seen in the book is more data and/or possibly a few graphs, but then again, I have kept my own statistics so I can see both the living results and the post op tortured data. Since May 2, 2007, I have personally realized a 117 lb weight loss after having RNY surgery. Hey, maybe I should write a book about this too, it could be fun.
Anyway, this book is a fun read. I started it at 11:00pm and could not put it down for over an hour. When I woke up, I found myself wanting to finish reading it and I did - at least the story part as I skipped through the recipe section. It is worth reading if for no other reason than to learn about some of the feelings and experiences you might have if you choose to have bariatric surgery, or if you just want to understand what someone that has had the surgery is going through.

This book was disappointing because it was excerpt of the Authors diary and really not as informative as I thought it would be. I did enjoy checking out the recipes for possible future use. I thought it would be more indepth.

This book is more like a memoir not really having anything to deal with eating well after surgery.
It's mostly about the fun things she could do/did experience after losing weight.

I really liked this book for the diary portions and information. I didn't love the recipes as much, and I love good photos of items in a cookbook, so that was all that was missing. I certainly recommend the book, I have used it as a reference, so that is saying alot.

I'm a Lap-Band patient and all thought this book is in part the diary of an RNY patient her story is very relatable . Along with some great recipes it's a must have for WLS patients everywhere.
Wonderful Help.......2007-07-30
This book has provided wonderful help following my lap-band surgery. Susan's account of her recovery following her surgery is very helpful. Our surgeries were different, but many of my experiences were simular to her's. I'm learning to listen to my body and understand some of the problems. I've tried some of the receipes and the ones I've tried are very good. Susan is a gourmet cook and I am not. Some of the ingredients are difficult to find, but she does list suppliers where they can be purchased. I also live in a small Texas town and shopping is limited. I recommend this book to anyone who has had or is going to have bariatric surgery.

This book is an excellent resource for people about to have gastric bypass surgery and people who have undergone the surgery. The author tells her story with humor and lots of practical advice. The recipes and the web sites are wonderful. I would recommend this to everyone interested in weightloss surgery.

I read the orginal book in December of 2006 when I as starting to investigate if WLS was a solution for me. I found the book to answer so many questions and to teach what the facts are. Susan tells it how it is the good the bad and the ugly. But she is good at telling you that with good research if this is the choice you make your life of eating good food is not over. With surgery you have a second chance at health, kind of a rebirth. I love her attitude of nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
I have learned thru reading this latest book more info about after the surgery and I look forward to learning more on this journey. THis is a must for someone pre-op and a important part of success for the post op!
Best Pre and Post RNY Surgery Book on the Market.......2007-06-28
Just got my book in the mail today and I've not put it down. I am a post RNY surgery patient and I bought Ms. Leach's original book at the start of my journey almost 3 years ago. I bought several books on the surgery but found Ms. Leach's to be my bible. This book offers a soft cover which makes it easier to lay open on the counter when using her recipes (the book actually stays open to the page). You can't beat the price. The valuable information contained in the book is a must for anyone considering the surgery, recovering from the surgery or like me 3 years post op. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

A great read.......2003-08-15
This is a wonderful book. Walter Koenig has a gift for writing in such a way that you feel he's just standing nearby chatting with you. His observations of "Star Trek" and making movies in general are witty and insightful. Check out his other book, the autobiographical "Warped Factors" for deeper insights into his complex personality, and how his many acting efforts after "Star Trek" were overshadowed in many ways by the character of Chekov (and an even deeper view of his wonderful sense of humor.)

Great "Star Trek" memories.......2000-08-25
What a treat to be able to read the republication of Walter Koenig's journal of the making of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Koenig gives a light-hearted and detailed look at the behind-the-scenes action of the film, including his fascination with Persis Khambatta's bald head and his quest for Chekov's one great close-up. :-) Any fan of the original series is sure to enjoy this book; you'll feel like you're right on the set!

This is Walter Koenig's journal of the making of the first Star Trek feature film. Koenig, of course, played "Chekov" in the TV series and the movies. This is an interesting account of his experiences on the set of that first film. Star Trek fans should enjoy it.

I think this is an excellent reference source - the law is difficult and any one book reference guide can only go so far in introducing you to a practice area that allows you to get the ball rolling. This book does a good job.
The only issue I have is that it's a 1994 edition and is in need of a fourth edition update. For instance, the bankruptcy law chapter should probably be avoided because the substantial changes that occurred in 2005 isn't included.

Everything in this book is too general to be of any practical value, especially if litigation is not your practice area.
Needed Excelelnt Reference Guide, Got It.......2002-06-12
In order to exapand my skill set I needed a book that gave me an overview of multiple areas of paralegal work. Sometimes I would get called for something they would say do you do estates wills and trusts or corporate derivatives? And while my experience may've lent to it, unless you've done something for years and years its hard to jump right into a conversation about it. Not so with this book at your fingertips. Gives you excellent outline of an assortment of areas.
Am I advocating getting this book and diving in? Yes, whatever your field you should have another field that you're actively involved in learning and creating as a branch from your main interest. I started in graphic design, did so many presentations that I got into finance and worked on so much legal stuff that I got into taxation and legal work. It is my plan to go onto law school just for the pure learning but with books like this and a solid commitment to learning you can get someone, a firm an attorney to sponsor you and go take the Bar. yes, it's that good.
My only wish is that I had ordered it from here but I needed it quick, fast and in a hurry so I bought it from a store.

Best Book In Its Field. Buy it and arm yourself........2001-12-04
This member of the greater jury of the vast public is limited to awarding only 5 stars as I cannot award what I would like:
a constillation.
It is hands down the best guide for the person that really does the true work:the paralegal. That degree of help is only surpassed by its invaluable greater need in helping the pro se individual to look, not so "...pro se...".
It is a recipe book for law.
