She has always been one of my most favorite entertainers. She is a truly remarkable woman and reading this book reinforced that fact. I enjoyed every page. Well done, Ann-Margret!

Accomplished actress, entertainer, wife, daughter, mother -- Ann-Margret writes an informative, entertaining autobiographical picture of her life, loves, losses, heartaches, and continued triumphs. Candidly, this performer tells of her successes but is also honest about her bouts with alcohol - and her triumph over the illness - more than once. It is interesting to note pride in her heritage from Valsjobyn, Sweden, her birthplace... with a close and loving relationship with her parents and their immigration to the US.
To read Ann-Margret's autobiography is to cry, laugh, & cheer... reading of her downs but mostly ups, with her loving husband and manager Roger Smith, who battled his own nerve disease to remission, and remained at Ann-Margret's side to support her personally and professionally, through hard times and more good times. The loss of her father to cancer; the death of Elvis Presley; her accidental fall from a platform at a performance in Lake Tahoe and finding the astounding strength and determination to come back to the entertainment world so quickly from so many injuries suffered in that fall... tells of the inner strength, stability, astuteness, professional, unselfish and loving human being that is Ann-Margret, who always keeps her positive focus within reach.
Ann-Margret's career began at an early age; even though a "natural talent", her success came with a lot of very hard work, high standards, and fortitude based on a mannerly upbringing and strong support by her parents, friends and husband Roger Smith. Ann-Margret describes in her bio a close and soulmate relationship within the scope of personal as well as professional essence with legendary Elvis Presley. Her upbeat description and tales of her co-stars, including "Duke" John Wayne; Claudette Colbert; Bette Davis; George Burns; directors, producers, along with many supportive individuals.
Her range of talent is wide -- in song, dance... acting on stage, movie screen and television, along with her comedy performances among which are Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, and the great George Burns. Acting roles she assumed were highly challenging and to her credit she glowed with each performance, in differing genre delving into in-depth characterizations -- her repertoire includes but not limited to "Bye Bye Birdie", "Tommy", "Streetcar Named Desire", "Carnal Knowledge", "The Two Mrs. Grenvilles".
This reader has always been a fan of both Ann-Margret and husband Roger Smith, ignoring the tabloid garbage... cheering and admiring the fortitude of both of these talented persons and their lasting relationship...
And to Ann-Margret I say... thank you for writing your biography, even though it took me some years to get to reading it among my large collection of books. And, I am so glad I did... I am proud to be a "forever fan" of yours. God bless you.
Too narcissistic for my tastes.......2004-01-09
I had the audiotape version, read by the author, and was surprised at how hokey it sounded, given that she is an actress. I mean, I expected a better reading. Not sure how well it represents her, but the book makes her come across as a bit shallow. I've enjoyed her movies, but found this book a bore.
Boring.......2003-11-22
Some may think that Ann-Margret showed class when writing this but actually it's just boring.
It goes along like a freight train, no depth, substance or insight. Comes across as an extemely vain woman who is manipulated by her manager/husband. Where was the gossip, this is what sells a book, not all the rubbish in this.
Avoid at all costs. Totally void of any depth.

· NFL and Chicago Bears founder George Halas who fought Lambeau tooth and nail, yet admitted privately that he seriously doubted pro football would have survived without the likes of Lambeau
· Don Hutson, the incomparable Packer receiver, who was able to stake his claim to greatness because Lambeau was one of the few coaches of his day who believed in the forward pass
· Clarke Hinkle, Johnny "Blood" McNally, "Iron Mike" Michalske, Tony Canadeo and many more Packer greats who remembered Lambeau as a motivational genius, but not much of a football strategist
· Mary Jane Van Duyse, the Packer Golden Girl and drum majorette, who despite being half his age, was Lambeau's girlfriend and fiancé when he found peace in his later years. She held the football legend in her arms as he lay dying at her house in 1965.
From a small town hero and national figure whose private indiscretions contributed to his fall from grace to a mellowing man whose many accomplishments were finally acknowledged at the end of his life, Zimmerman illustrates how Lambeau's life went full-circle. And why sports fans, and football fans in particular, must never forget him.

Great Niche, but not the best bio........2003-12-29
In the interest of accentuating the positive (and I did enjoy this book) I will say that it was purchased from my wish list by my mother, who ended up buying a copy for my cheddarheaded sister as well. My mother grew up in Green Bay (one block from Curly's birthplace! she exclaimed) and said that it brought back her childhood in the 30s and 40s quite vividly. With every mention of every store or venue she recalled stories of old Green Bay. She would tell me of the Packers practicing in leather helmets just outside of the old East High School. She would tell me of going around the corner to the modest home of Mike Michalske (an oft-mentioned Packer in the book) to play with his newborn. She loved it.
To me (and she admitted as much) the book read at times like a low-scoring football game. By this I mean that it appeared the author had several anecdotes which he strung together into chapters, not paying great amounts of attention as to whether or not he had already introduced a trainer here, or used a turn of phrase there. The reader, therefore, is left going over the same phrases repeatedly, with their repetition distracting from the overall telling of the story of Lambeau. You read one account, skip back several years for another account, and then read the first account as a natrual terminus of the second. Like a low scoring football game, on each play you main gain a few yards or lose a few, and find yourself forced recover the same yardage.
That said, the author seems to both idolize Lambeau as the patriarch of the team, and find little for which to do so. He repeatedly shows players that did not much like the guy, nor respect his actual abilities as a football coach. Players would have to explain where plays wouldn't work, and though his dependency on the forward pass was innovative in 1919, he was unable to modify his game as football evolved in the 30's and 40's. He's portrayed as a vain, egotistical salesman who (quoted some three times in the book ver batim) "did more for his hometown than anyone else" and founded a great tradition in professional sports.
A recurring theme in Packers History seems to be frustration with intervention by the executive committees governing the franchise causing the head coach to leave. Lambeau cited this when he left the Packers (and later the Cardinals). Lombardi warned against interference when he stepped up to the plate, and of course as Packer fans of this era remember, Holmgren went to Seattle largely to enjoy the general managership denied him at Green Bay. Ironically, Sherman has the dual role today, and Holmgren has been stripped of the same in Seattle.
Anyway, the book provides a light and interesting look at an era I've not seen well covered elsewhere. It covers the first 31 seasons relatively well, and Green Bay at the time as well. It identifies the times this unlikely team faced dissolution early in their institutional life, and how the means by which it was saved sets the team apart from every other team in professional sports. It covers the Packer-Bear rivalry through the years (although showing Halas as quite the protagonist and Packer Backer by the end) and provides a cursory look at Lambeau's Post-Packer life.
I'm glad I read it, but it's not exactly 5-star material.
Lambeau Revealed.......2003-07-25
As a life-long Green Bay Packer fan (since 1960), I was amazed to learn that nobody had ever written a biography on Curly Lambeau until now. After all, he's been gone since 1965. It's incredible to think that two generations of fans have been going to Packer games in Green Bay and seeing the name "Lambeau Field" emblazoned on the stadium but possessing little or no knowledge about the man who founded the team, coached it for 31 years, nurtured it financially and emotionally through thick and thin, and brought home six NFL Championships! David Zimmerman truly fills a stadium bowl-sized void with this book! It's packed with intriguing information about how the Packers - and the league - were formed. Lambeau's larger-than-life aura shines through, both in his football success and his human failures. But you don't have to be a football fan to enjoy this book. No doubt, women will be intrigued with Lambeau the ladies man. Colorful characters like Johnny "Blood" McNally will make you laugh and scratch your head in amazement. You'll meet other NFL Hall of Fame legends like Don Hutson, Clarke Hinkle and "Iron Mike" Michalske. This book is a must-read for any Packer fan, football fan, history buff or anyone who just enjoys a good, colorful collection of all-too-human stories. Plus, the pictures, many of which have never before been published, are outstanding. I loved it!
A book for all Packer Fans.......2003-07-25
The first chapter draws you in so completely, you feel like
you are there with Curly and makes you want to read more.
This book has so much information on Curly's professional and
personal life. Never before has a book covered so much on the
history of Curly Lambeau and the beginning of Packer football.
A book to be shared by everyone who wants a piece of Wisconsin's great local sports history. David Zimmerman is a thorough writer with a personal touch.
Curly and the Legacy.......2003-07-16
I heard the author David Zimmerman on a local sports radio program. I was impressed with his historical knowledge of the Green Bay Packers and Curly Lambeau. So much so I bought the book. In it he has given us special access into the colorful life of a football pioneer and icon Curly Lambeau. Packed with insights, great photo's, bigger than life characters and legends of the game. I found the book well researched, carefully compiled and absorbing, a welcome addition to my football library. If you have an interest in the Green Bay Packers or the NFL, you will want to read LAMBEAU-The Man Behind The Mystique.

Not What I Expected.......2002-06-08
As a big Perry Mason fan, I have been looking for a bio of Raymond Burr for a while. This, unfortunately, is the only one that has, to date, been written. While it does a fairly good job of detailing the many areas in which Burr worked (from the theater to radio to orchid farming...yes, orchid farming), it does little to tell us about the actual man. The ending falls flat. Little is given on how Burr dies, just one brief paragraph that he does as the book closes. Burr's main piece of work, the "Perry Mason" series, is given little play. No insight whatsoever into why the series came about, how it developed, etc. This book, while semi-interesting reading, leaves me wanting more. Will someone please write a bio on Mr. Burr???

The only game in town.......2007-07-28
The good news is that this is, despite all its defects, a somewhat informative biography of Havergal Brian. The bad news is that it's tough slogging at times and distorted to boot. Its take on Brian is a bit like Shaffer's take on Mozart in *Amadeus*. You wind up seeing Brian through a glass darkly.
Brian had a love-hate relationship with Granville Bantok, his long-suffering patron (and a composer in his own right), and with another anonymous patron. It's clear from the book, no matter how you look at it, that Brian was not a likeable person, but Eastaugh had access to much of the Brian-Bantock correspondence, which displays Brian close to his worst, and makes that the predominant source for the book. So Brian comes off even worse than he deserves. Fortunately, there is enough other material that you can grasp the essentials of Brian's life, both personal and professional. Whether the book is worth the sort of price asked here at Amazon and elsewhere on the Web is for you to decide. How interested are you in Brian?
For completeness' sake, if nothing else, I should mention that Reginald Nettel also wrote a book about Brian, but only a completeness nut (like me) would find any use for it. Eastaugh is quite sufficient.

Packed with problems and solutions.......2007-05-24
This is an updated version of a previous Mathematics of Finance text from Schaums which I used heavily in a finance course. It is very useful to students of actuarial science and finance. For aspiring actuaries I also recommend "Mathematics of Interest Rates, Insurance, Social Security, and Pensions" by Robert Muksian and "Mathematics of Finance" by Cissell. All three of these books are better for self-study than "Theory of Interest" by Kellison.

I am a manager, and sometimes I listen to financial managers without being deeply involved in their technical language. After reading and practicing this book , I am able to use my skills more proactively working with them.

A Good Reference and a Self-Study Guide.......2006-07-11
As with most of the books from the Schaum's Outline collection, this book comprises the fundamentals so it can be used as a supplement to standard textbooks in class, as a stand-alone study aid, or as a reference for the professional practitioner.
My academic background is in Electronics Engineering, so I really didn't take any courses on finances back in College. When my work forced me to gain knowledge in the area of Financial Math I turned to this book as a self study guide. The text is clear, has a lot of worked problems and examples, and it did its job: Gave me the knowledge I needed.
No wonder that this is actually the Very best-selling book of the whole Schaum's Outline collection.
Excellent Value.......2002-10-18
The target audience of this book is people who want to know how to estimate annuities, life insuarance premiums etc. If you are sitting the actuarial exam(SOA) 2 this is what you need for the Theory of Interest part. It also covers parts of exam 3. The book is affordable and way better than any other else. The methodology is crystal clear.
