Customer Reviews:
By George, he's just a real guy, isn't he?.......2007-10-22
Blushing and turning in my toes (just like George, Himself), I, like millions of others stand corrected about that arch-villain of our history, George III! As it turns out, he's a real person, just like the rest of us.
Can't You Make Them Behave, King George? brings his story to life for young readers. There's a lot for parents and teachers to enjoy here, too. Huzzah for Jean Fritz, who knows how to tell "his-story" with a great sense of humor making it as enjoyable as it should be.
This book is a pleasure to read.
Nice history, cutely written and illustrated........2006-02-17
I bought this book to read with my children (ages 8 and 10). I found the book interesting, and learned a bit about King George's youth. My children thought it wasokay, even though their father was forcing it on them. I even caught my wife sneaking a read.
The writing style is nice and folksy, and the illustrations are charmingly naive. The personal spin it places on the American Revolution, coupled with the emphasis on the British perspective, is a refreshing contrast to some of the more serious books I've read on revolutionary history.
All in all, a nice read.
A Bad Guy?!?!.......2004-10-24
King George is considered to be one of the greatest opponents of the American Revolution. But does anyone ever really hear of his good traits until now. And in a childrens book! Well I know I didn't. And after reading this short story I found that ole George wasn't such a bad guy after all. All he wanted was for Brittain to become, well...richer. Couldn't those colonists help pay for some of his debts. Well maybe, if those colonists actually had any SAY in British matters then they should have to pay taxes. Well I still think he wasn't a BAD guy, he just tried to take the easiest way out.
Tomie DePaola and Jean Fritz-I think-make the perfect team. His comical illustrations with her undefinable text make this book a classic.
Fritz or Freedman '04. You decide.
it's fun to read and you learn a lot from it.......2000-04-16
I learned all kinds of things about King George, Queen Charlotte and others. It really helped me with my research on the Revolutionary war. In this book you get to learn the funny things about King George and things that happened during his time.
Historically funny and accurate.......1999-01-02
Jean Fritz has created many fabulous books for children. "Can't You Make Them Behave, King George?" is one of my favorites. It shows the beginning of the American Revolution from the eyes of King George. The book is humerous and historically correct. Kids and adults will enjoy reading it together!

Customer Reviews:
Extremely well written.......2007-06-13
My children have enjoyed reading this series several times.
Great Kids Novel.......2007-01-10
I am a 5th Grade teacher (and a huge Star Wars fan), and I am using this book as a novel study in my class this year. The story closely resembles the movie, but you spend time inside the major characters' heads (which really adds to the kids' understanding of the events in the book - some of which are very mature themes).
We just finished talking about Chapter Nine, the Opera House, and the kids loved the way the scene between Palpatine and Anakin was written (where much of the subtext is left to the reader to decide about who Darth Plageous' apprentice is and what these Sith secrets mean for Anakin).
This is an exciting and compelling story, which has really resonated with both the boys AND girls in my class. A great book to add to the home or classroom library - and a great read for any Star Wars fan!
An entertaining read.......2005-05-23
I always find that the junior novelizations stay closer to the actual movie storyline and I wasn't disappointed with this one. But what I find great about the Star Wars ones is that they are written in a fashion that pleases both kids and adults alike. The adult novelization usually covers more detail but this one is no slouch either. And like the other readers, I am a sucker for color pictures and actual stills from the movie. Great book and an excellent final addition to my Star Wars library.
Revenge of the Sith.......2005-04-20
A little less intense than the adult version- although not by much- the junior novelization of Episode III tells the story very well. As pretty much everyone knows this is the one where Anakin becomes Darth Vader, so it's a given that this was a very dark book, more so than any other Star Wars book I've ever read.
I think it's worth saying that there was almost no mention of Chewbacca and the wookies. Based on this, it looks like the role of the wookies has been severly exaggerated, which is a huge disappointment to me since that was something I was looking forward to in the movie.
Overall, however, this is a great book that I'm sure you'll enjoy reading.
Dont read if you dont want the secrets to be revealed.......2005-04-18
Anakin goes evil because the sith tells him that he can keep padme from dying using the dark side of the force.
Anakin kills all the jedi including jedi kids.
When Obi-Wan tells padme at first she doesnt believe him.
Anakin trys to kill padme when she tells him that what he did was wrong.
He battles with Obi-Wan.
At first they seem equal, then with the dark side Anakin has the advantage.
Obi-Wan has to let go of all his love for anakin and when he does he sends him into the fire which seems to kill anakin.
Sidius comes back and sees anakin just barely alive. the only way to keep him living is by building darth vader.
Padme dies and gives up hope because anakin has broken her heart by turning to the dark side.
They are able to get luke and leia out in time. they decide to separate them.
Thats pretty much the end of the book.

Book Description
Taking an eye-opening new approach to Egyptian history, Chronicle of a Pharaoh presents a unique and intimate portrait of Amenhotep III, the man and self-proclaimed god who presided over the zenith of Egypt's greatness. Through an unprecedented wealth of details--from the day-to-day running of a huge empire to his clothes, cats, and bedroom habits--the private and public faces of a pharaoh are vividly brought to life as never before. Joann Fletcher explores Amenhotep's private and public life in a compelling year-by-year account, drawing on firsthand and previously unpublished material. Among the many subjects covered are his daily schedule, such as bedchamber ceremonies and meetings with ministers; his relations with rulers of other ancient superpowers, recorded in a lively correspondence covering topics from new wives to the price of silver; his family life, including the remarkable role of his wife, Queen Tiy; the superlative art of the reign; and his monumental construction projects--among them the great temple of Luxor. Amenhotep III also established the cult of Aten, the sun disk, and after Amenhotep's death his son, the rebel pharaoh Akhenaten, became fanatically obsessed with the god. Illustrated with spectacular full-color photographs, maps, and artifacts, many of which are published here for the first time, Chronicle of a Pharaoh provides the full context for understanding the monarch who presided over the magnificent flowering of Egyptian civilization.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful book, well written and great to look at.......2007-03-24
Non-fiction biography with great color photographs on every single page; the book is worth it just for those. It is a well written biography of the father of Akenahaten. It is interesting to learn that he was dabbling in an interest in the "Aten" god cult prior to his son Akhenaten's obsession with it later on when he became sole ruler.
I recently went to a museum show of objects sent from the British museum, interestingly the majority were objects found in the pages of this book! Unbelievable to see them in real life!! A great experience.
Amenhotep III, The Sun King.......2004-09-22
A very nice hard-cover book with wonderful full color plates and a wealth of information concerning his intimate life, not overly concentrating on his building projects but more on his personal life.
It's worth looking through.......2001-10-05
First of all, the design of the book is exquisite; it's a pleasure to leaf through this book, full of colorful high-quality illustrations. After reading it, however, I found the content a bit disappointing, most of it was re-hashing of the fairly well-known facts, although with a few interesting tidbits sprinkled throughout. This book would be great for someone with a passing interest in Ancient Egypt, it gives a good general overview of what life might have been like during the New Kingdom.
Amenhotep Dazzles.......2001-02-03
Chronicle of a Pharaoh is a readable in-depth look at pharaoh Amenhotep III, one of the three greatest kings of ancient Egypt. The layout is superb as it chronicles his life with a year-by-year format. Contains a generous amount of personal minutae, reinforced with pictures and plates on almost every page. Outstanding in all respects, this one is a keeper.
A full picture of a pharaoh.......2000-12-02
I agree with the first reviewer--it's amazing that Joann Fletcher has pieced together so much about Amenhotep and presents it in a way that conveys an actual life. The little details, like the name of his family cat, make this book tons of fun. An all-around beautiful book.

The Battles, the Leaders, the Presidents - And How Their Paths Intertwined
Triangle Histories introduce a new concept for American history series. Each title interweaves, intersects, and overlaps with others in its own unique way. And each title provides a different perspective on the broad subject at hand.
Because the Triangle Histories provide a format in which major subjects and themes can be considered from various angles, each collection offers a truly multi-dimensional way to learn and understand more completely. Though each book stands alone, as a set the Revolutionary War collection forms a powerful and engaging way in which to learn about one of the greatest struggles our country has ever endured.

Book Description
When a meteor strike wipes out their new-born research station on the recently discovered planet of Centauri III, Dr. Jefferson Trask is left with little more than five critically injured survivors, no supplies, and a long six-month wait for the return of Pegasus, the mother ship. Centauri III is a wild and primitive world that challenges Trask's ability to survive at every step, and threatens to take his friends from him with each labored breath they draw.
The native food, the water, and the very air he breathes, combine to change him, and by the time Pegasus does return, Jefferson Trask has mutated into an entirely different being. He is a new creature, not human, not alien; totally different. And that difference will deal him the cruelest betrayal of all.

Former punk rocker and unlikely Hollywood insider Ian Grey takes us on a cynical, self-loathing tour of the worst of Tinseltown in this gut-bustingly funny collection of evil little essays. From the overblown egos that manage the movies to the trend towards cleaned-up gore, Grey has the political savvy and film-world background to make incisive comments on the dumbest of art forms. Not to be missed are his essays on the life-affirming qualities of gore films, the love of plastic surgery, and the reminiscences of Oscar night, when everyone who wants something is essentially doing to everyone who has something what Monica Lewinsky did to President Clinton. Too much fun for one volume. --James DiGiovanna
Customer Reviews:
It sucks........2007-03-27
Nothing new. Boring read. Too much Reagan talk which has nothing to do with the book whatsoever. Lame interviews with pathetic people. No insights found throughout the book when I wanted to know the dirty linens of Hollywood. Maybe just two or three, that's the best. He keeps bashing on the very few big timers who are often bashed the most over the years. Is there anything more interesting than that? I bought it for a buck, and it wasn't worth a buck.
Life Imitates 'Art': Entertaining but Empty.......2006-10-12
Ian Grey has all the right ingredients for a first rate litary drive-by. He has perfected the self-righteous swagger of a master polemicist and he's got the staccato sarcasm down pat. He's glib and witty, and has just enough of the been-there-in-the-trenches (and see who I've rubbed shoulders with) authenticity (he's a failed rock star AND a failed screenwriter) to play the oucast insider the genre demands.
Unfortunately, he forgot to have a point worth making or anything resembling a solution to the problems he cites.
So what we get are series of thematically linked essays concerned centrally with the artistic death of the American movie brought on by corporatization, the MPAA, the "200 vice presidents," Ronald Reagan and a host of other carboard boogeymen, held together with a handful of interviews with the fairly famous (Wes Craven), the nearly famous (Ulli Lommel) and the famous-only-to-the-self-appointed-cognoscenti demograpic (Julia Strain).
The essays are, in general, interesting, if ultimately devoid of any real insight (what, the blockbuster syndrome hasn't been great for the prospects of art films? who'd have thunk it?). They're most entertaining when Grey sticks to innuendo and insult or to matter-of-fact portrayals of some of the more absurd effects of blocbuster bloat (Waterworld's budget, for instance). When he wanders into more 'serious' theoretical speculation, he reads like a high school student turned loose with publishing deal and no ability to critically analyze his own sources (he approvingly cites [at considerable length] a Peter Biskind essay from "Seeing Through Movies," without acknowledging that the piece in question is not only an antiquated exercise in academic Freudian maundering, but also includes the almost inconceivably retarded implication that George Lucas is in some sense responsible for the Reagan Presidency). Other times, Grey is undone by his own naked prejudice: he snidely attacks "Last Action Hero" on several occasions, but reserves voluminous praise for "Scream" - essentially the same film but with different subjects.
The interviews, on the other hand, are simply terrible. In addition to mostly being made with peripheral figures of neither artistic nor commercial importance, they're filled with leading questions and Grey's own self-important ejaculations (not to mention his irritating habit of inserting his subjective reading of body language, voice tone etc. into the text of the interviews). Worse, many of his interview subjects share Grey's abominably self-congratulatory posture - at one point, Wes Craven compares "Scream" to Shakespeare without the slightest trace of irony (or any objection from fanboy Grey). Ulli Lomman is almost as bad. He seems to believe he is bringing the spirit of Fassbinder to the unwashed Americans (because, as we all know, "Bogeyman" is just a work of sheer, avant-garde brilliance).
But what is most off-putting is the smarmy, masturbatory self-promoting glee with which Grey imbues the whole book. In the end, "Sex, Stupidity and Greed" isn't about exposing the failings of Hollywood or proposing a solution (which Grey implies lies with hipsterish, z-grade, ironically so-bad-it's-good horror schlock), it's about showing the world what an insightful, in touch, all-around awsome guy Ian Grey thinks himself to be.
What best sums up this book..........2006-07-10
...is one sentence in an early chapter, talking about ballooning budgets. While he could make a good case about how we are spending our money as a society, he instead contradicts his own points, shows a lack of insight into the reality of the industry(ie things cost money), and a line about James Camerons upcoming disaster film costing almost 250 illion to make. In response to this he exclaimes, "this would have to be almost the highest grossing film of all time to earn its money back." Perhaps before taking bold potshots at one of the most successful and consistant directors of all time, he should have waited to see how the movie would pan out first. This is typical of the book, which is angry, foolish, rambling, and now painfully out of date.
Required reading.......2002-12-13
Should be mandatory for film students and anyone else who wants an inside look at the Hollywood meat grinder.
A non-book.......2002-04-10
I'm flabbergasted to learn that some readers actually enjoyed this pointless bit of piffle. Truly, there's no accounting for tastes. Here's the deal: this Ian Grey guy was briefly, peripherally involved in screenwriting. He's been in the same room with a few third-tier celebrities. He doesn't like think very highly of the movie business. Oddly, Grey seems to believe that this all adds up to some sort of sensational now-it-can-be-told muckraking extravaganza. It's a bit like a meter maid writing a tell-all account of the inner workings of the justice system. How these aimless drivelings ever found a publisher is a complete mystery. If you feel like rolling around in some real insider sleaze, read Charles Fleming's "High Concept".

love this book!.......2007-01-28
When I first saw this book, I fell in love with the illustrations of that funny little rabbit. I knew it was geared toward pre-school, but I got it anyway as a read aloud for my first grade class before we start learning the 5 senses. They really loved it too! And it helped to introduce our unit about the 5 senses.

Customer Reviews:
The 25 Habits of Highly Successful Salespeople Has a Bad Habi.......2006-03-12
This book has a bad habit of being weak and juvenille. Very weak and ordinary.

Boost of Energy.......2006-02-05
This encouraging book gives each of the author's 25 selling habits a great little chapter to explain and give a few examples of the technique. Even if you have heard the habit before, it gives you a boost of energy to get going. This book is a great one to have around for all salespeople- new and old.
Schiffmans' 25 Sales Habits Book Is Very Useful.......2006-02-05
The best thing about Stephan's 25 Habits book is that it summarizes what it takes to be a successful sales person.
It's easy to read, and even when you're an experienced sales pro like some of us grizzled old veterans are, you'll still find that there's things you could improve upon in what's explained.. so it's a great "self check" and tune-up, for all levels of sales reps.
Schiffmans' books (and Gitomers) are ones that I recommend all my clients read, as they're important, and their techniques work.
This one is useful, a good overview and primer of what sales success is all about. Nice work.

What gives?.......2005-07-14
You want I should read this book and sell good? I read it and it aint working so good for me.
Never Forget the Fundamentals!.......2005-03-27
Funny, but people seem to believe all show business folks know each other (they don't). Same for sales trainers (we don't either!). So Stephan Schiffman and I, both successful sales trainers/authors/speakers/consultants, somehow managed to avoid each other out on the road for almost 40 years - before finally doing a sales training seminar together just a few months ago. As for me, I was impressed! He had the audience in stiches, while teaching them some very solid sales information.
Understand, "The 25 Sales Habits of Highly Successful Salespeople" is not one of Steve's deeper works (he has plenty of those!). But it a wonderful tool for new salespeople who must first learn the basics of selling, and for any established salesperson who needs to get "re-threaded" (as we all do from time-to-time).
And don't get distracted by some of the negative reviews I saw about Steve's book. Those people are, in my humble opinion, missing the point. Even my material ("The Closers" series of books/audios/videos/newsletters/seminars) gets rapped on occasion. But as does Steve, I find solace in knowing how many salespeople have gotten rich using my material!
Note: You may have noticed that all of my book reviews carry "5 Star" ratings (*****). But that's not the sign of a "soft reviewer." I only review books to which I can honestly give a "5 Star" rating. You may assume, therefore, that any sales training/self-improvement book without my "5 Star" rating is either something less than "5 Star," or I simply haven't gotten to it yet . . . and there are certainly plenty of those!
