Book Description

Princess Diana talks about her life and the principal characters in it (such as Charles, Camilla, James Hewitt, and Dodi El Fayed), the circumstances of her death, life in "heaven" and the spirits she meets regularly, including Chris Farley and John Lennon. She describes the levels of healing that a "new arrival" may go through and how they then help other new arrivals. She also discusses her past lives and her preparations for her next life.

3 out of 5 stars makes one think.......2006-12-28

I bought this book out of curiosity, and while I'm not sure I buy everything in it, the story (or set of circumstances) makes one think about life after death and the possiblility of a different exsistance than what the religions would teach. If nothing else, this book lends to discussions and deeper thinking - whether you accept her 'truths' or not. My only crit. is that the same story could've been told without using Princess Diana as reference - but then again, Auntie M's story wouldn't have sold as many copies as Di's

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable........2006-06-29

I found the book to be rather reviting. It certainly does offer an alternative view of what happens "after death," than we get from mainstream sources. Weather this is a "made-up fantasy" or not (you have to decide that), I think even the skeptic would enjoy the story it tells from the perspective of the person of Princess Diana.

1 out of 5 stars Bogus, Ridiculous, Badly-Written, Silly, Lame, Dumb, And It Sucks.......2005-08-29

Those who want to think this book was written by the late Princess Diana will probably ignore anything I have to say, so I'll be brief. If this makes anyone happy, great, but I found this book at a yard sale in among comic books and romance novellas in a box marked "FREE" so I took it with me. The lady who was giving it away told me, "That's the dumbest thing I ever read." I don't agree but it's in the top 50 on my worst ever list. I read this and was disgusted by it. Is this Princess Diana being channeled from the Great Beyond via the author of this book? Who knows? But if I was dead and given the chance to speak from the next life, I think I'd talk about things that were of more importance. I'd also like to think I'd sound a bit more like myself instead of as the mouthpiece of an author's spiritual BUSINESS.

Maybe I shouldn't review this silly book at all since I didn't finish it, but I read enough to stand by everything I've said.

I wish I could say this book is good for a bit of a laugh, but it's too insulting to someone's memory to be that. Prince Charles and his son William, and Harry, Diana's other son, can't be happy books like this get written.

What's next, Elvis speaks from the beyond? Ronald Reagan? The dead career of Michael Jackson? I foresee a series coming on here...

5 out of 5 stars every word is true!! June 1, 2005.......2005-06-02

I thought this book was garbage before I read it but soon after read it I believed that this book was true. I recommend this book to all Diana fans.

1 out of 5 stars Worst book I've ever read!!!.......2004-09-29

Out of all the books I've ever read in my life, this one has got to be the worst. Not only do I not believe that the words came from Princess Diana herself, but I don't believe any of the information came from anyone on the other side. Now I am not a non-believer of afterlife or most of what is stated in the book, I just found the information general and more or less intended for someone in their early teens searching for ways to better their life and to understand life a little better. If Princess Diana really wanted to get a message accross to us, I could not find one bit of information important enough to have the overpowering desire to contact Ms. Toomey to write a book on her behalf. Princess Diana's life was extrodinary and this book does not even capture the warmth of her heart at all. In this book, Princess Diana (supposedly Princess Daina) talked about how she took a nap in heaven, how she swam with the dolphins in heaven; and how after all this, she finally realized she had long flowing hair in chapter four. How the women spirits were "shorter and rounder" and the men "taller and thinner." The family and friends she talked to on earth and in heaven while in heaven was odd in itself because not once did she talk to the two people who meant the most to her -- her two boys. I think they would have been her number one priority. I found nothing worthy of my time to read in this book. In my opinion, there are people who use the good name of Princess Diana, as well as other famous people, to make financial gains. I believe this book is one of those. It's a shame, but it does happen. This book was so bad, I would not recommend it anyone.

Book Description

The publication in 1992 of Andrew Morton's Diana: Her True Story shook the British Royal family to its very foundations. Initially greeted with disbelief, as time passed, it became clear that the book was, as its title claimed, Diana's true story.

Diana's friends were hopeful that separation from Charles would bring Diana freedom to find happiness. But has it? With her marriage in limbo and her children only occasionally by her side, Diana's position in the royal family is one of increasing isolation. Diana: Her New Life chronicles the secret battles that have raged behind closed doors, and Diana's frustration as she tries to break free from the restrictions of her semi-detached royal life.

Again with unprecedented access to some of Diana's closest friends, Andrew Morton strips away the royal propaganda and reveals how Diana is learning to become a woman in her own right not a puppet of the palace, and shares Diana's private thoughts on retirement from public life, remarriage, the men in her life, and the grooming of Prince William for his future role.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Really Good Read.......2006-03-14

I love Andrew Morton's writing style. This is such a touching story. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not as juicy as Diana: Her True Story.......2003-05-06

but just as good. This book is an update on Diana since her separation from Charles in 1992 and what the future could hold for Diana as a single woman.

Unfortunately, only a year after her divorce, we got the answer, and it wasn't good.

4 out of 5 stars Palace Intrigue is Alive & Well in This Century.......1998-09-28

Without question, this is a book sympathetic to Diana's side, and justifiably so. The grey-suited eunuchs of Buckingham Palace have never done the monarchy a favor by meddling in the marriages of the royal family. Morton tells the tale of Diana, her remarkable courage and resourcefulness, and her feelings of alienation, in the face of a smear campaign that would have shriveled us lesser mortals. Diana is a flawed, but nevertheless feeling, human being who did not deserve the ill treatment she received at the hands of her prince and his minions. This is an interesting book to read in light of what's happened since the book's publication in 1994. One can believe that Diana's death may not have been an accident.

3 out of 5 stars An interesting book,it made you feel asif you were there........1997-12-15

I loved this book, I felt as if I was there writing the book as it happened, rather than reading the book years after it happened.

                Book Description

They're held captive by the glamour and the grotesque of the oldest spectacle known to man. But the inquisitive public at large, along with a vast international network of pro wrestling aficionados, yearn for more than the intriguing soap opera scenarios and daring athleticism that they view every week on television and live at venues around the world. They want a behind-the-scenes view beyond what is routinely represented to the public. In short, curious observers and ardent wrestling fans will be captivated by what Gary Michael Cappetta has delivered in Bodyslams! Memoirs of a Wrestling Pitchman.--A tome about one of those guys who rents a tuxedo and tells us who's about to enter the ring? How informative could that be? The answer is: "Very, if you open your mind and open the book."--Unenlightened fans may be quick to dismiss ring announcers when considering who is part of wrestling's inner circle. They fail to realize these people occupy the same locker rooms, hotels and vehicles as their athletic counterparts, and deal with the same bosses, road temptations and co-workers.--Though a mike man shares only a fraction of the glory, he is definitely "one of the boys." Originally a schoolteacher, Cappetta spent over 20 years working the wrestling arenas. Starting as a part-timer with the WWWF in 1974, when he was paid the sum of $25 per show, Cappetta stuck with it until he lost his spot in the asylum that was WCW in 1995.--It would be an exaggeration to say Gary has known everyone and seen everything - but only a slight one. The author was in the thick of things when Vince McMahon began his take-no-prisoners national expansion, and later watched Verne Gagne destroy the once-mighty AWA and Eric Bischoff resurrect WCW.--Who was there when the infamous hotel bloodbath between Arn Anderson and Sid Vicious erupted? Who wound up with Mick Foley's ear when it was torn off in Germany? The only witness to an incident wherein rookie Mark Callaway nearly sent Buzz Sawyer to meet a real undertaker? The one and the same G.M. Cappetta.--Bodyslams! seamlessly weaves commentary about the business and the people who populate it, travel tales and insight into the personal life of its author. Unlike many other mat biographies, this is neither a boast or a bitch-fest--and there is no promotion behind the publication attempting to rewrite history to its liking.--Bodyslams! is the first book to shed light on the dangerous games that both the performing wrestlers and their corporate employers play in order to acquire power, fame and wealth. The book runs chronologically and serves as both a history and an expos? of American wrestling as Mr. Cappetta has witnessed during the three decades he spent as an announcer for America's two dominant wrestling promotions.

5 out of 5 stars The 2nd Best Wrestling Autobiography!.......2007-07-06

And the best wrestling autobiography belongs to, of course, Mick Foley for his Have A Nice Day: A Tale Of Blood and Sweatsocks. However, that is not to say that Bodyslams!: Memoirs of a Wrestling Pitchman is not a great book in its own right.
Unlike other wrestler biographies on the market today, Cappetta does not cater to his own ego with hyperbole-laden narcissistic ancedotes. Nor does he attempt to use his book as an agenda-driven vehicle from which to spew venomous accusastions against former colleagues. Rather, Cappetta potrays himself as simply a piece of a much larger picture of pro wrestling history. With his eagle-eyed observations of many stars of yesteryear and today, Cappetta comes across as an everyman with a love for professional wrestling rather than a grandious character of mythic proportions. While characterizations of certain figures are not always flattering, Cappetta's refrain from vitriolic diatribes adds more credibility to his opinions and recollections of events. He does not feel the need to exaggerate claims to boost his image. And as such, displays a greater appreciation for his craft. Much like Foley's Have A Nice Day, it is easy to empathize with Cappetta. He is, after all, a fan living out his dream despite obstacles and circumstances. While newer fans and younger readers may feel aliented with stories from days gone by, Bodyslams is manna from Heaven for older fans and purists who always wanted an inside track to the professional wrestling before the days of the internet.
Funny, insightful, and heartwarming, Bodyslams develops instant rapport with the reader and is a literary breath of fresh air in an industry built largely on illusion.

5 out of 5 stars Great book with a unique perspective.......2007-05-14

I really enjoyed this book. It covers a large period of wrestling history and even though it is marketed as a "tell all" kind of book, the real charm of it is the positive perspective Cappetta has about the people he worked with. The WCW stories of global tours, in particular, are classic and covered in more light than in other books I have read. Overall a great book.

4 out of 5 stars The Voice of Wrestling...... in Print!.......2007-02-24

Gary Michael Cappetta is one of wrestling's most prevalent father-figures. Well, he feels like a father-figure to me, at least; even more so now that I have read his book, "Bodyslams! Memoirs of a Wrestling Pitchman." GMC gives his candid recollections of what it was like being a fly on the wall in the industry's two most dominant promotions, working with just about every major name of the time period, and working with/for some of the most influential personalities in wrestling history.

Many of the stories included in these memoirs absolutely fascinated me; from the tale of how he broke into the wrestling business, to the defiant manner in which he left it. It's all in here, and Cappetta maintains his pride and dignity while learning the proper ediquet that comes with being involved in the greatest show on earth.

GMC walks you though his storybook career as a professional wrestling ring announcer, recounting his most memorable experiences. Some of which will shock and amaze you, others will have you laughing your tail-end off. I found it very inspiring to learn about Cappetta's employment with the WWF and the eventual fallout that occured when Vince McMahon Jr. failed to show the proper respect to one of his most loyal employees. Beyond that encounter, GMC shares his true-life anecdotes about his experiences with Victor the wrestling Bear, some not-so-honest promoters, being on tour with a group of female wrestlers, the famous WCW Tower of Doom match, road trips with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, a thrilling story about Mark "The Undertaker" Calloway in WCW, Abdullah the Butcher, various road trips, and overseas tours for WCW (including the infamous Sid/Arn incident), dealing with Eric Bischoff and WCW politics; And that's only the tip of the iceberg.

This reprinted version of the original book contains a rare addition at the conclusion of the journey. There is an epilogue attached, plus another fifty pages of updated commentary discussing the tumultuous book tour and countless other things that happened since the original publishing. This is a truly unique feature for a book of any nature.

Gary Michael Cappetta was the voice of an entire wrestling generation. His presence was felt at thousands of wrestling events and he was one of the often over-looked heros of wrestling as an art form. The drama that he helped provide on the cards he worked often went unnoticed, and that is a credit to his talents and professionalism. As I wrap this review up, I would like to extend the invitation to one, Mr. Gary Michael Cappetta, if you ever read this, please drop me an email. I would love to hear from you. Otherwise, wrestling fans -- pick up Bodyslams! and you enjoy yourself. I promise!

4 out of 5 stars Gary Cappetta Of All Things Was There Before The Big Push.......2007-02-14

I was very pleased by Gary Cappetta Book. Some years ago I was interested in becoming a referee for the WWWF.I had met Gary and he arranged to have me come with him to the Spectrum for a Live House Show which was held every month under the Prism Wrestling Banner which was the local sports television promotion who showed the Spectrum wrestling cards each month live over there cable outlet.Gary was great always willing to help people and he certainly helped me,he gave me a chance to meet many of the referees and talk to them like Dick Whorley who was later blacklisted by McMahon, and people like Dick Kroll, and Gilberto Roman.I did not become a referee but would become an employee of the Spectrum in their Guest Services department which I continue to do to this day. What would become so strange is that after working for the Spectrum I would become friends with future WWE announcer Tony Cimmel who was setting up the ring for the WWF at the time and Joey Morrella Gorilla Monsoons son who would introduce me to his dad who would offer me the chance to become a referee.I would later decide against it as the travel whould have been to strenuous with a full time job also on my shoulders,But the experiences I would have from working at the Spectrum would become enormous.Meeting all the Wrestlers that I grew up watching like Bruno Sammartino,Pedro Morales,King Curtis,Superstar Billy Graham and learning the niceness and sometimes weirdness that these wrestlers would present.I also would become very good friends and very close to wrestlers like Kerry Von Erich who I had watched in World Class Wrestling, but would be brought into the WWF.I would become a confidant of Kerrys while here in the wwf and he would many times tell me all about the tragedys that had befoiled the Von Erich Family and to this day have Kerrys wccw Belt,His boots and Robe that he gave me.Kerry was a true loss to the wrestling world and what a classy guy.I bring up the WCCW as had Gary announced for this wrestling group i think his career would have taken a totally different path.
Gary gave me a chance to meet people the times he would take me to the spectrum and I will be forever gratful to him and I think his book is one that will give you inside many ways of the orginazations that he worked for.The book may not dish the dirt on the groups but the true thing is to learn about the business of wrestling and it is great.

2 out of 5 stars Not that great.......2007-01-21

The people who are giving this book 5 stars must be lying or on crack. I have read about 10 wrestling books and this is one of the least interesting. There are two problems with this book. One is that there just isn't a lot of dirt here - and let's face it, we read these books to find out all the backstage insider information. The second problem is that I personally don't really care too much about what goes in to being a ring announcer. Cappetta makes it sound like he is very important to a wrestling event - when in fact - no one really cares about ring announcers.

                    Book Description

In The Dynamic Reti, Grandmaster Nigel Davies redresses the balance and advocates a repertoire for White based on this popular opening.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome opening variations I'd never dared think to try before!.......2006-09-09

I have played the Reti now for some 35 years or so, and thought I knew pretty much all there was to know about it. However, the ideas presented forth in this book are some of the most forward thinking, unusual and viably practical thoughts that I have ever seen written down about the game. Imagine, in a Reti Accepted match after 2...dxc4, to be told to try 3.e4! instead of 3.Na3 or 3.Qa4+. And that it actually works! Davies comes up with many solid moves in different variations which are wholly workable and yet so entirely strange to see played in this particular game, but strange in a very refreshing way. I wholly recommend this book to anyone who loves the Reti but may be slightly tired of having a difficult time winning with it.

4 out of 5 stars Over all I liked this book.......2004-12-16

A 1.Nf3 player could be thought of as a d4 player who is chicken of the Nimzo!

But when you study 1.Nf3 you learn to appreciate it more for what it is. To really master this opening, you have to learn to pick and choose from several openings.

Where I like his book is on the Closed Reti, Reverse Benoni Reti, and the Reti Accepted. I think he has some great ideas in there. But when it comes to this books section on the Slav Reti. Well the lines he gives white has to sacrifice a pawn. I don't buy it white gets compensation in these lines he suggests.
Against the Slav Reti I think the best way to go against it is go into the Slav! That is where I said you got to pick and choose. When to go into an English or d4 opening or stick with the Reti.

Over all I liked the book very much.

                    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2004-06-08

I like Nigel Davies' books very much. I think "Taming the Sicilian" is a very interesting book, with an effective and original way of meeting the Sicilian. This book, however, on the Reti, struck me as lacking the fire or originality to make it anything special. In fact, it is one of the few chess books I have ever returned for a refund. Perhaps I was not completely fair to this book, but everything about it struck me as half-baked. First, there is the standard 144 pages from Everyman. When they produce a very special work, such as that on the Nimzo-Larsen Attack by Jacobs and Tait, this page limit does not apply. That wonderful work was 192 pages. So, you have the pot-boiler 144 pages, but what is worse, is that Davies' introduction in this Reti book is a "Schiller-esque" copy of his intro. in Taming the Sicilian. This is just lame. The exact same advice is given, which adds to that feeling that this book was "cranked out" rather than being a labor of love. But what finally did me in was his recommendation against the Reti Accepted (dxc4). He says that the normal ways of playing to regain the pawn, Na3 or Qc2, lead to equality for black; so he recommends the very rare e4!? This gives you a backward d pawn in exchange for "dynamic" play. He never even discusses the other moves, so e4 is his only recommendation. Well, I quickly realized that I don't want to play e4, and since you see dxc4 all the time (indeed, it seems like the best move), this left me with a very bad feeling about this book, as in, I shouldn't have bought this book. This is not to say that it is not well-written or does not contain plenty of interesting well-annotated games. But I felt compelled to write this review for the benefit of anyone who perhaps buys a few too many chess books, to tell them, this seems like one of those "too many."

4 out of 5 stars An Early Bloodbath Avoidance System.......2004-05-24

A self-styled chess romantic would probably cringe at the notion of taking up the Reti Opening. Among amateurs, it has a reputation for pusilaminity. Many beginners do not shirk from engaging in hand-to-hand combat right out of the opening. Yet, with time, I have come to see the dark side of trying to play a theory intensive opening repetoire which allows an opponent significant counterplay. David Bronstein once said that to gain winning chances, one has to grant some concessions to one's opponent. There is another school of thought to this idea of seeking dynamic imbalance as the catalyst for victory. Many masters are happy to play in an environment where they are not facing an attack out of the opening, where the deployment of their pieces are in an easy to follow plan, and yet there is still "something" there for the white player to work with. Players like Botvinnik, Larsen, Petrosian, Miles to name only a few, have been quite happy to play openings like the Reti. The opening has made appearances at the highest level of competition. I can think of Reti-Capablanca 1924, Alekhine-Euwe 1937, Petrosian-Tal 1962, Korchnoi-Karpov 1974, and Kasparov-Karpov 1987. The Reti allows broad scope for original maneuvering in the middlegame, and the possibility to outplay an opponent strategically. At the non-professional level, I would argue that it is in the best interest of a chessplayer to cut down as much as possible in the amount of theory one has to study. Why? because the amateur needs to spend time studying other things, like endgames and middlegame books (how to do this effectively is something else entirely though..) To go further, I would say that one should try and play openings which will be forgiving of less-than-exact play. The Reti fits this perfectly (I would also recommend similar openings like the Barcza or the Catalan). The key motif of the Reti is the early securing of the white king in a kingside fianchetto. I tend to think it is a good idea for beginners to play this way, as they tend to survive longer. Now, to get to specifics, the nature of white's "pull" in the Reti is subtle, so a slight error by white can allow black to equalize fairly quickly. Yet even if black can swing the position around to his favor, the white king position is still a tough nut to crack. Now to get to the meat of this book. The only other book to cover the Reti in recent times is "the easy guide to the Reti" by Dunnington. I would recommend this book as well, although there are differences in style and in the lines emphasized. The "Dynamic Reti" is better as a complete repertoire book. Having spent so much time talking about theory avoidance, I will now say that there is a body of theory to the Reti and related systems, and if one has any pretensions to getting anything out of the opening, one had best study it. One nice thing about the Reti is that if one studys it for just a short time, and then plays it against someone unfamiliar with it, I am still amazed at how effective it is, opponents seem to be left with lousy pawn structures (like isolated pawns, or hanging pawns) all the time. the title "Dynamic Reti" is well chosen, as Davies has indeed tried to select more aggressive set ups for white. Some of his suggestions (in the "Reti Slav")are similar to Tony Kosten's lines in "the Dynamic English" (I should mention here that I started out trying to play 1 c4, but I found the move 1..e5 quite a challenge, with 1..e5 white can find himself under a surprisingly fierce kingside attack. 1 Nf3 cuts out this possibility, to some degree). As one works through the Davis book, it becomes clear that in the main lines of the Reti, for black to challenge for the initiative requires boldness and preparation. I am thinking of the reversed Benoni lines or the thrust used by Geller in the Closed Reti (game 5 in the book). The Symmetrical English (which is probably required study for a Reti player, unless one wants to play 2 b3 or 2 e4!? in response to 1..c5) is a challenge for the white player, and I like the lines Davies comes up with here. Of course, there are several ways of playing the Symmetrical, and if one finds his lines not to one's taste, then one can try different lines. Davies suggests the 6 Nc2 line against the Maroczy Bind, which, he admits, is controversial. However, the main lines of the Bind are a tough bite to chew, so I am with Davies here. The other lines include the Rubinstein variation, which also has a reputation for solidity. I have not yet "field tested" his ideas here, but, as far as I am concerned, any suggestions for chipping away at this defense are most welcome. So, for those who play 1 c4, I would recommend this book as well. The Reti b4 line against the Kings Indian is a refreshing break from the mind-numbing vast pool of theory in the KID, I think the b4 thrust gives white something to work with. Against the Dutch, he also recommends b4 lines. As a Dutch player(a very double-edged defense, to be sure) I think 1..f5 is a good way to stir things up against the Reti. I quite like his b4 lines against these dutch set-ups, just remember that when the game takes this course, the play is going to be rather sharper than in most Reti lines. In conclusion, I am going to play the Reti myself, and I have confidence with the white pieces that I have not had in a long time.

This is a solid introduction to the topic of competitive intelligence. It gives a well-rounded overview of all the many facets and ways of doing a competitive intelligence campaign. This book will open one's mind to the many avenues and means of conducting an ethical intelligence campaign. Good read and very easy to follow, Five Stars!

Great read, and a very easy read. This book is more of an introduction to the philosophy of Competitive Intelligence than anything else. It provides a good conceptual overview.

The chief failing of the book is that the world has changed since it was written five years ago. It'd be interesting to see how an updated book would justify CI in a "down" economy, and how its importance has changed with the bursting of the dotcom bubble.

It's still a worthwhile read, but I would rather see a book that has been updated to current world and economic conditions.

I learned of this book while reading the "Ask Annie" column in Fortune (Jan. 7, 2002). I've been in Marketing for 10 years and was looking forward to a good book on competitive intelligence gathering. This covers only the most basic of topics: the plan, do, check, act cycle; annual reports; 10-Qs; government permits; etc. If you don't have a clue where to start in CI you may find this book helpful. If you've done even cursory competitive intelligence gathering before you will not likely find anything new here.

I should have paid attention to the reviewer that said, "If this is the FIRST book you read on Competitive Intelligence - it is not that bad..." I'll add not only if this is the first book, but also your first exposure, otherwise skip it.

This is the best book I read in the last few years (at least the best comic book). And if you are that kind of guy who thinks that knows all, look to the "gems" of the competitive intelligence that I learn from this book.

First, on page 88 the revelation that the European Union has one secret member, which elevates the number of member states to 16. Second, on page 236 you will learn that in Barcelona almost nobody speaks Spanish only Catalan and, for THAT reason, the databases in Spain are not reliable. Finally, on page 238 you will discover that Belgium is a city.

OK, this is all about Europe and you may say "Who cares?", but did you know that the Japan's GDP surpassed the United States GDP in the early 1960s (page 160)? If your answer is "Yes I knew", you are "one of the few Americans that were astute" (page 160).

If, as the author says (page 96) "Good Analysts are born, not made" is true, then there is little hope for Mr. Kahaner.

This is the best book I have seen in a long time on competitive intelligence. Kahaner does a good job of turning what could be a boring subject into easy reading. The information about existing competitive intelligence plans used by corporations in different countries is very interesting. The flow of the book takes a logical path similar to how a corporate competitive intelligence program should operate. Executives looking for a way to enhance their market share would benefit from this book.
