DIANA, her last love.......2004-04-26
I think that the author tells the truth but I don't agree with her,I think Diana was manipulative, she planned several strategies to win Hasnat back including using the media and Dodi to make the doctor jealous. The pess describes him like a playboy, a bad man, but he was the only man who loved her so much, he was very kind with her.His life looked like her life: his mother leaved his father when he was 3 years old,he was a mediocre student,he loved to have beautiful women because he didn't like to stay alone , he believed women loved him only for his money.Sometimes he prefers to stay with a woman who did not really love him, because he didn't like to be alone. He has insecure behavior.in the past diana manipulated media in order to send a power message but this timesI think she really cruel woman because when someone was in love with you , you should't joke with his feelings, and used media to create illusion of love,it's really unbearable to an human being. I read a lot of books about Diana: her true story by andrew Morten death of a princess by Thomas sancton and Scott Macleod, the day Diana died by christopher andersen , shadows of a princess by p d Jephson
In fact I was a great Diana 's fan but when I read this book I didn't like her anymore. The media show us a superficiel dodi's picture. people have been influenced by the press
Diana's True Love Wasn't Dodi!.......2003-11-19
After reading this book, I am convinced that the author speaks the truth. Hasnat Khan's name comes up in several books, and they all state Diana felt strongly for him. I do believe she was with Dodi Fayed to make Mr. Khan jealous. I certainly can picture her with a heart surgeon more easily than I can with a playboy who didn't know what to do with all his money. I also read Paul Burrell's book, "A Royal Duty" and he alludes to Diana's true love, though he doesn't give him a name. He does say it was not Dodi. I believe that had Diana lived, she would have possibly married Hasnat Khan, or at least maintained a loving relationship with him. She didn't know Dodi well enough to even think of marrying him; the relationship was simply a summer fling. It's sad that she did not live to see that happiness with Dr. Khan come to fruition.
Better than I thought it would be!.......2003-01-15
Based upon the other Amazon.com reviewers, I didn't expect much from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. The writing is good, a little hero-worshiping of Diana comes through but that's OK. I notice she only interviewed some of the more wacko or cheeseball "friends" of Diana (Simone Simmons, the faith healer, taken seriously?? but I guess Diana took her seriously at one time). However, at least you learn more about Hasnat Khan & his background (sounds like a really nice person, and all his family too) than you do from any other Diana book. I can't agree that Diana was a stronger person at the end of her life -- she seemed to be very immature still. Imagine taking up with Dodi Fayed to make another man jealous, sure he was a multi-millioniare but please, the guy had had so many women (what did he tell Diana about his fiance, Kelly Fisher??)...I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. That's mature, strong behavior? I think she was so devastated when Dr. Khan finally broke it off, that she went into a tailspin & into her old, self-destructive, immature behavior. Manipulative, too, if you believe that she planned for the "Kiss" picture & the others being taken (which I believe). The author doesn't agree with my thoughts but she doesn't force the issue, she just mentions that other friends thought Diana sounded strong at what turned out to be the end of her life. It's an interesting book, not the best one on Diana but thoughtful & brings out some unknown background on her relationship with Hasnat Khan.
Total Fiction.......2000-11-12
Kate Snell's book is 100% fiction. She said the relationship between Diana and Dodi was not serious.
Few months agao a priest broke his three- year silence to reveal how Princess Diana confessed her love for Dodi Fayed - and was going to marry him.
Father Frank Gelli said the Princess even asked him if he could conduct her wedding ceremony. She confided in the highly- respected Church of England minister at secret meetings in the weeks before she and Dodi were killed.
The cover photo is the best part.......2000-09-19
This book isn't one to really enjoy. Ms. Snell uses other books(listed in back) as references, no real problem with that but then she goes further and uses anonymous sources. I never really like that because you have no way of knowing how good that source is or whether or not they might have a grudge against the subject. I suspect that some enemies of the Princess more than her friends contributed, that stuff about Diana trying to pay Simone Simmons with gifts instead of cash is an example of this. Anything I've ever read indicates to me that she most likely would not have done this (although she could be very generous with gifts), that would be a trait more of the born Royals. The love life details, are they true? I don't know, the Princess is dead and Hasnat Khan isn't talking. A person should also remember that in 1997 his relatives embarassed him by talking so much, sounds to me like they're still at it.

For every surfcaster who have felt the tug of striped bass on the line and on the heart, here is a memoir by the renowned striper fisherman.
Customer Reviews:
A great read - but I felt very sad at the end.......2006-03-14
Like all of Daignault's books, the author blends wonderful anecdotes in with illustrious descriptions of fishing the striper surf, to the point that you feel that you are there...
Unfortunately, there is a downside:
I don't want to give away too much of the book, but the author chronicles his gradual aging and the result is that the blows of time have gradually taken away his precious beach access - as well as his youth. We are all somewhat saddened when we think of things we once had that we can never ever have again, or relive, but the ending of the book actually left me in tears. I actually felt like I had grown old with Frank, his family and the great places they used to pursue the mighty striper, only to have all those fun times taken away by governmental shutdowns of beaches, the striper moratorium and, worst of all, the ever-relenting hammer blow of time which steals all that we love.
I would highly recommend this book, but if you are an avid surfcaster, be prepared to feel saddened. I can only think of places I used to fish that Mother Nature took away from and will never, ever return.
I wish I wrote it.......2004-07-17
This is a book about surfcasting the way Moby Dick is a book about fishing. It's really a story about avocation, family, parenting and about how a sport can enrich our life and connect us to the people we love. And it talks about these things with none of the intellectual pretentions and posturings of other fishing memoirs.
I wish I'd written it.

Entertaining anecdotal history.......1999-01-11
This book is unlikely to revolutionize anyone's understanding of the history of the US Navy or the progress of World War II (when most of its subjects served), but it *is* great fun to read. The chapters are short, and the overall effect is a lot like sitting around listening to a bunch of old-timers spinning yarns about their time at sea. Some of the stories are exciting (Eddie Albert's), some are dull (Rock Hudson's), and at least one (Jack Lemmon's) is falling-down funny.
Though it may not have been the authors' purpose, the book also highlights an important truth about modern war: most of those who serve do so by doing dull, repetitive, vital jobs far from the front lines. "Mister Roberts" may be the most realistic war story of our era, after all.
Fascinating sidelights........1997-11-04
When World War II began it was natural that many movie stars, along with thousands of other Americans, would gravitate to the U.S. Navy. Some stars' contributions were confined to extensions of their show-business careers, but others rendered heroic combat service, and still others labored unglamorously in the mundane tasks without which no war can be won
Wayne Morris (fighter ace), Aldo Ray (frogman), Bill Cosby (Korean-era physical therapist),
Rock Hudson (aircraft mechanic), Cesar Romero (Chief Boatswain's Mate USCG); their stories and many others are told in this fascinating record, with bibliography, good index, and many rare photos, some from the stars' own albums. Highly recommended.

Book Description
This Companion is an accessible up-to-date introduction to Schumann: his time, his temperament, his style and his œuvre. An international team of scholars explores the cultural context, musical and poetic fabric, sources of inspiration and interpretative reach of key works from the Schumann repertoire ranging from his famous lieder and piano pieces to chamber, orchestral and dramatic works. Additional chapters address Schumann’s presence in nineteenth- and twentieth-century composition and the fascinating reception history of his late works. Tables, illustrations, a detailed chronology and advice on further reading make it an ideally informative handbook for both the Schumann connoisseur and the music lover. An excellent textbook for the university student of courses on key composers of nineteenth-century Western Classical music, it is an invaluable guide for all who are interested in the thought, aesthetics and affective power of one of the most intriguing figures of a culturally rich and formative period.

Entertaining but not necesarily useful.......2006-08-13
I like GK. He is a colorful character with great wit. Being a huge Apple fan I decide to get this book. I'm contemplating starting a small service biz and bought this book for useful tips but I got very little out of it. Maybe it was ground breaking when it came out.
The book is really targeted for people that work in large consumer based hardware/software products. The book was written prior to the internet so they way companies sell and promote biz as well as the tips are somewhat outdated. Examples: Apple uses distributors to sell. Well in the US and most developed markets that ins't really true anymore. Apple goes direct and in some cases through retailers that are also distributors. If you want to get into a company get someone internally to champion your resume. This is already well known. Also most companies referenced in the book no longer exist (Ex: Compuserve) or stopped supporting the macintosh platform long time ago. Also the last chapter on "dating" in a tech world while amusing felt like a filler to complete the book.
There are a few good nuggets on presentations, demos, and maximizing your investment in trade shows. This was interesting but very technology oriented. There are also some interesting perspectives on Apple history and characters which Apple followers would enjoy.
So If you have a small biz that isn't technology based or you are not a fan of Apple there isn't much here for you.
One thoughtful comment in this book is worth a fortune...........2006-02-28
Kawasaki mentions his experience in advancing money to others to pay in advance for their work. Read "The Macintosh Way" as young as you can. I'd be quite a few millions better off if I had read him sooner and taken his advice to heart. And it's not just the money....
AWESOME BOOK: PERFECT FOR MAC EVANGELISTS & APPLE LOVERS.......1999-08-24
Guy Kawasaki has written a great book on Apple and the Apple business method. Very funny. Extremely unique and marvelous, like Apple. Perfect for brushing up your Mac Evangelist skills! One of the best books I've ever read, and I'm not even done! Guy truly embodies the Macintosh Spirit. everything about the book, from the footnotes to the illustrations, is like the artistic perfection of Macintoshes! GUY KAWASAKI RULES!!!EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK AND BUY A MAC!!!!!!
Formula for over the top success against all odds.......1998-08-06
The teams I have been a part of that followed the basic attitude that Guy outlines here have accomplished amazing things against all odds. On other teams, the farther we got away from these ideas, the more mediocre the end results turned out. If you want to create an environment where world changing events will happen, you need to read this book.
Stickingly Simple Basics for a Successful Growing Business.......1997-08-07
Guy Kawasaki's "The Macintosh Way" empowers the very essence of understanding the principles of evangelism and doing the "right thing the right way" in business. This book and his other book " "Selling the Dream" should be required reading for startup companies. Values and principles in business are the key to success.
Guy's keen sense of humour and reference to examples of what did and didn't work for the Apple Computer Corporation, while he worked there in the early 80's, is a fascinating perspective. Here, you will see how an successful company like Apple grows from innovation to mediocrity. For Mac users, this is a praticularly fascinating insight but should be required reading for all CEO's and directors of growing companies. It is an insightful collection of practicle examples of what and what not to do in business.

Fun Enough for a Gift.......2000-05-29
Who wants a book of etiquette? Well, any child, who cares about other people and loves to laugh would want this one. It's written for girls, but good manners are for anyone. This book is fun, informative, and a pleasure to read and look at, even for adults and folks who already have nice manners. The author stresses courtesy and niceness rather than such specifics as how to eat a banana with a fork and knife, but that makes it applicable to just about any situation involving other people who appreciate thoughtfulness.

Decent introduction, some disappointments.......2002-05-31
In the rapidly evolving field of digital audio and visual, it's reassuring to have a clearly organized, relatively comprehensive reference work such as this. Nevertheless, far from being exhaustive, the book is a starting point--one, moreover, that will inevitably soon be dated information. For example, the authors' publication date doesn't permit them to consider the latest generation of flat-panel iMacs in their discussions.
Despite the book's length, I'm surprised that some additional paragraphs weren't devoted to matters such as converting analog audio and VHS tapes to video files suitable for burning, or copying, through use of the iMac. The authors begin by assuming you'll be using "Sound Studio" to create audio files, but since their subsequent discussion soon promotes the advantages of using Roxio's "Toast," it's unclear what the advantages of Sound Studio, if any, might be. My question about how to equalize audio frequencies before burning was not addressed. Moreover, it's not explained if either program is capable of automatically creating individual files from a multiple-track analog LP, as is the free shareware "Coaster."
The discussion of "iTunes" is surprisingly brief, containing nothing not immediately observable from using the program. Most disappointingly, the authors do not address the question of memory and disc space. Is it important that virtual memory be turned "off" while recording? More importantly, how many MP-3 audio files can be imported to the iTunes library or stored on the iMac's hard drive without affecting the machine's speed and performance?
As for digital video, I would have appreciated some discussion of converting VHS tape to digital files. One school of thought says to use a "bridge" such as the Hollywood Dazzle; another says the job can be accomplished just as well if not better by most camcorders. Which is right? And if the latter, what particular camera is recommended?
Less talk about how to shoot a good movie and more about the hardware and software would have measurably enhanced the book's usefulness as far as this reader is concerned.
A MUST BUY . . . IF.......2001-08-15
A MUST BUY . . . IF you want to use your iMac to soar, to do magic, and to bring you into new levels of computing. The iMac: what a wonderful machine! It is high powered, low priced, and you can actually USE it with ease - this in stark contrast to the kludgy, unstable WinTel machines that are now referred to as "99% of a Mac." (Don't believe it.) Yet many an iMac owner uses his or her computer for email and a letter or two; and that's fine, though it is a little like using an F-16 fighter for a trip to the market or for crop dusting, maybe.
The iMac has extraordinary power, and that's what this book is all about. It is not the ABCs of the computer that'll explain a double click, but it will lead you with simple language and copious illustrations into our new, digital world of sound, photos, movies, and graphics. It also delves into Web page authoring, networking, and some of the "hidden talents" of the iMac. Mercifully, it is all very understandable. As easy as the iMac is, you're simply not going to reach the next level by trial and error and the Help Screen.
Messrs. Hansen and Miser are qualified experts who have the gift of communication. They are adept at taking complexities (e.g. URL language) and factoring them down for us "regular folks" who have inherent creativity but lack an MIT degree. They really do a tremendous job. With the book, a bit of software, and the funky little iMac, you'll be astounded at what you can do.
Best of all, you could easily buy separate books on iTunes, MP3s, iMovie, digital photography, networking, building web pages, etc., but this one volume will get you well on your way while saving money and shelf space. Later, if you want a "master's degree" in some subject, you can always buy a specialty book.
Two quibbles: I wish Hansen had provided more information on selecting a digital camera. The range of choices and options out there is bewildering and seems to change markedly every day. Second, Miser strongly dissuades you from buying a Digital 8 video camera. Sony markets these, and they have one fabulous advantage. If you have built up a library of Regular 8 or Hi 8 tapes over the years as I have, the Digital 8 cameras are "backwards compatable" and will play these tapes. This means that all your old material can go directly into the iMac in the requisite digital form without first being converted. This, to my mind at least, is a HUGE plus.
