Book Description
A collection of poems written by the progressive jazz artist, Gil Scott Heron. These works are very political in nature and comment on the current matters of interest during the period of the 1970s and 1980s. The artist shows himself to be a keen analytical observer of the society and its impact upon the people.

Great....A Must Read.......1999-04-17
Wow!!!! This collection includes Gil's Best work as far as I am consered. He includes some of his best works as a poet and as a musican. I think that you can't grasp the suttle nuonces if you just read it once, it forces you to read it many many times. I highly recomend it if you are intrested in politics, race relations, satire or just how the mind of Gil Scotts works.
This is indeed the best of Gil Scott-Heron.......1999-03-29
So Far, So Good and is only getting better. This collection of Gil Scott-Heron song/poems are masterful. Many of his classics are included in this book. If you are just discovering Gil, this book is a must for you. If you have been listening to Gil since the early 70's, then reading this back will only bring back vivid memories. A must have in your collection.

Twenty years on, still so far so good.......2005-01-17
I was so happy to discover that Roger and his darling wife Natalie had written a partial autobiography in the mid-1980s. I say 'partial' because many years have passed since then. This book, aptly titled "So Far So Good" (there is a song of the same name which appears on a few albums), treats the reader to amusing recollections of his growing-up years in Kenya, his rowdy young adulthood - including his numerous automotive bust-ups - and early romantic liasons, and his efforts at breaking into the music industry. You get the strong sense that he has thoroughly enjoyed his life and musical career so far, both the bliss and the bumps. He paints himself as an easy-going and imperfect fellow, which I take to be true since his wife Natalie, a fiery Irish woman, co-wrote the book with him. In person, as I have discovered, he is infinitely charming and laid back. I hope for another book later this decade, called "All's Well That Ends Well," or some such title. His life has been rich and varied, which makes for enjoyable reading.
Book Description
Notorious as one of Wall Street's oldest living legends, Roy Neuberger delivers a truthful and interesting account of his extraordinary life. Focusing on his start in the market from seven months before the 1929 crash, up to the 1987 crash, till today, he shares his 93 years of experience as a market sage. Neuberger also paints a wonderful picture of his love of contemporary art and his role in the art world, his donations to museums throughout the country of hundreds of pieces worth tens of millions.

Valuable insights from a pro's pro.......2000-07-23
This is a quick read and is strewn with practical investment advice from someone who obviously knows what he is talking about_____ Roy Neuberger is probably the only man alive who witnessed BOTH crashes (1929 & 1987) on Wall Street ! This book is full of profitable insights and like all masters , Neuberger wastes no words : he is crisp & to the point . Simplicity after all is the essence of true mastery (not to be confused with the simple-minded) and Mr.Neuberger has boiled the wisdom of a lifetime on the Street into these pages .
A superficial draft, without insight into the person.......1998-03-18
Roy Neuberger has had an amazing life during an even more amazing time. This lightweight exposition offers little insight into either. I got more out of his interview on CBS Sunday Morning. More could have been gleaned from a short magazine article. Certainly not worth the price.
Excellent combination of story telling and valuable info.......1998-02-07
The Connable's have put together a very informative book. I found it an excellent read, interspersed with valuable insights into investing on Wall Street and in the world of the Arts.

Great Songs - Bad Transcription.......2005-08-16
Megadeth is a fantastic band and the songs included in this book are all great songs however, these are some of the worst transcriptions to the songs I've ever seen. I can figure them out better myself with a banjo and earplugs!. The book would honestly only be any good for getting the very basic chords to the songs. If you are an average player or better, don't bother with this book.
You'll be thrashing all night long!.......2005-01-13
These are very catchy songs that are fun to play. If you are good at playing guitar, then be sure to get this. All the songs are awesome and sound just like the recording. I play these songs often and it helps me develope playing techniques.
This is a guitar tablature book (no text)........2000-04-15
Based on the other review on amazon.com of this book, I bought it. The review said: "This book is an awesome source for an incredibly interesting historical look at a couple of Megadeth's greatist albums! It includes facts that lay behind the recording session".
<---this is NOT true!
If you play guitar, this is an AWESOME book, as it is ALL tablatures for the 2 albums. There is NO text & certainly NO history or "facts behind the recording sessions".
...now I wish I DID play guitar. Dave Mustaine is an awesome musician.

A Rapid Trip Through a Long and Stellar Career.......2003-11-05
"So Far, So Good" is a very fast-moving autobiography by the actor most known in the United States for his portrayal of Jim Hacker in the excellent British comedy series Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister and of Jerry Leadbetter in The Good Life (Good Neighbors). From his peripatetic childhood, his Quaker roots, and countless plays, television series (Robin Hood, The Good Life, etc.), and diplomatic trips, Eddington takes the reader on a rapid journey through his eventful life with plenty of wit and good humor. His terrible skin cancer which took his life soon after this book was published is not dwelled upon. Placed in the background, the progression of the disease is brought up periodically between another string of theatre or television work. Unlike the autobiography of Yes, minister co-star Nigel Hawthorne ("Straight Face," which I highly recommend), Eddington is very upbeat in this work and usually focuses on his positive experiences. Even an attempt on his life is written with a touch of humor: "'Now if this were Belfast,' I thought, 'I would have said that that was a bomb. Oh my God, it is Belfast!'" and "I had been joking for years that the ultimate accolade for the success of Yes, Prime Minister would be for someone to attempt my assassination" (219). Unlike Hawthorne's work, this book does not go into much depth and seems to just scratch the surface; a humorous moment here, a witty quote there, and off to the next project.
Anyone hoping this work will be a motivational testament to his great courage may be disappointed. It is not that Eddington does not come off as courageous, it is that he does not write about the pain he must have gone through working despite declining health. From this book, one gets the feeling that his illness never overshadowed the two priorities in his life: work and family. I highly recommend the DVD set for Yes, Prime Minister which offers a bio of Eddington.

Book Description
Mark Todd's own account of his amazingly successful career, tells of the early Pony Club days in New Zealand, through showjumping, to burst on to the eventingscene and win his first of three Badminton titles in 1980, and going on to win two consecutive Olympic golds on his now legendary horse, Charisma. 'Toddy' recalls the lows as well as the highs - the death of his horse in front of millions in 1992, which deprived him of a ride for the Barcelona Olympics; victory at Burghley in 1996 snatched from his grasp at the last moment - as well as his family life with fellow-rider wife, Carolyn, and their two children, with characteristic humour and frankness. He also includes an invaluable selection of his personal tips and techniques for success.

From the Horse's Mouth.......2000-04-26
So Far, So Good is a superb read. It is the autobiography of Mark Todd, New Zealand's equestrian icon, and international event rider of the century.
It is fascinating to read of his early life in New Zealand, and of the sheer hard work and detirmination of his early years on the international three-day eventing scene.
This book also reflects the early years of New Zealand eventing, as Todd and his contemporaries were the forefront of a wave of New Zealanders who have since dominated the international circuit for over a decade.
Todd has a relaxed 'one-to-one' writing style, and is not afraid to state his opinions. I enjoyed this aspect of So Far So Good the most, as it is rare for riders who are still involved in the sport to make their opinions known so widely, for fear of controversy. Not that Todd is in any way vindictive or spiteful, merely that he writes about the way he sees things, without fear of offence.
Readers do not need to be involved in Equestrian sport to enjoy this book, as Todd is an inspiration to any person who wants to be inspired to succeed in their field, whilst still retain their values and sense of place.

Book Description
Melodrama: Genre, Style and Sensibility is designed as an accessible overview of one of the most popular genres at undergraduate film studies. The book identifies three distinct but connected concepts through which it is possible to make sense of melodrama; either as a genre, originating in European theatre of the eighteenth and nineteenth century, as a specific cinematic style, epitomised by the work of Douglas Sirk or as a sensibility that emerges in the context of specific texts, speaking to and reflecting the desires, concerns and anxieties of audiences. Films discussed include All That Heaven Allows, Safe, Fear Eats the Soul, Black Narcissus, Suddenly Last Summer and Rebel Without a Cause. Each chapter includes overviews of key essays, analyses of significant and widely studied films and includes an annotated reading list.
Customer Reviews:
A comprehensive introduction to the concept.......2006-05-26
Mercer and Shingler indebt anyone from an undergrad student embarking on an explaration of the many facets of the concept of melodrama, to a professor looking for a compact and accesible material to work with in a broad array of subjects, whether Film Studies, Cultural Studies, Women's Genre. Very readable, great case studies and consolidation of many critical approaches regarding melodramatic movies.

Other Books.......2007-09-03
Not as dice mad as Champions, and a fun emphasis on solo gaming was the nice factor about this game.
This was fun because it was pretty simple, straightforward and had rules and information on how to play the game by yourself if you wanted to, which was great.
Tunnels and Trolls has been updated!.......2006-05-29
While 5th edition Tunnels and Trolls is a great game, if you are buying the game to play and not just to complete a collection, then make sure you buy either edition 5.5 or the 30th Anniversary Edition (also known as 7th edition). Note: There isn't an official 6th edition.
If you're new to Tunnels and Trolls, I'd actually suggest you start with edition 5.5. They just seem better organized, plus you get the chronology of Trollworld, which is missing from 7th edition. If you find that you like the game, then you might want to pop for 7th edition, which really bends a lot of the rules present in the 5.5 and older editions.
In many ways, the two versions are different games. Levels are calculated differently. Talents are handled differently (and are a lot more high-powered in 7th edition); they're actually referred to as 'skills' in 5.5, and aren't included in the game in editions 5 and earlier. Attributes are accumulated differently (and are the basis of level calculations in 7th edition). And magic is quite different between the two versions.
You can customize your game, of course, and probably your best Tunnels and Trolls gaming experience will come from picking and choosing rules from 5.5 and 7e, to come up with your own brand of game. Fortunately, the system is very flexible in that regard.
So... if you can afford only one version of the game, I'd recommend buying 5.5. If you can afford both 5.5 and 7e, I'd suggest buying them both, since 7e is not a simple update of 5.5, but a complete rehaul of the game. And yet the two games are still compatible. Pure genius.
Wow - it's still around!.......2005-01-04
I'm one of those people who went through their FRP phase playing Tunnels & Trolls - I was somewhat surprised to see that it's still around but I guess in retrospect, it's not that surprising: the rules are simple and easy to grasp and allow you to start playing right away and the players were pretty much encouraged from the first page to come up with their own house rules if they wanted to, something which I always felt was in keeping with the philosophy of FRP's.
Tunnels & Trolls -.......2003-10-24
Tunnels & Trolls - the original and best! This is the classic fantasy role-playing game, much overlooked and a heck of a lot of fun! Easy to understand and with endless possibilities. Basic games lasting one night to mammoth game sessions lasting months are all possible with this system. It has quite a lot of back-up material, especially solo adventures, although many are now out of print but can be found lurking on the web if you know where to look. The game system has a die hard following of fans and there are many fine sites supporting the game, all brimming with free material to enhance your games. If you like Fantasy Role Playing, you'll LOVE Tunnels & Trolls.
An old favorite.......1999-12-30
This is the rulebook for Tunnels and Trolls.
What is Tunnels and Trolls? It's a first-generation fantasy pencil-and-paper RPG, created back in 1979 by Ken St. Andre from a simplified set of Dungeons and Dragons rules. This is a great classic, unique in the way that it is incredibly simple and easy to learn. The rules are readily grasped, but not simplistic. What Tunnels and Trolls is actually famous for is not the group play ( which is far from the quality expected at an average AD&D session - the rules are far too simple to handle non-dungeon settings), but the series of solo adventure books that allow players to play without a gamemaster. The game is very fun and addictive. It is built around the old-fashioned concept of hack-and-slash ( perhaps some would like to comment that hack-and-slash is not role-playing. You are wrong.). This is the single thing that the game handles well, but it handles it exceedingly well. The game hasn't changed much since it was created, and has its own little circle of followers. This is an instant favorite and an old classic. Try it out.

Great Book.......2005-11-22
I have started using this book for interviewing people and learning more about people and making general observations. The book is not an exciting read but the material if used properly will change the way you view the world.
Perfect for the wanna be profiler.......2005-09-08
Great if you want to learn how to read people, profile your friends and family. A perfect starting point
It's just a classification system.......2000-01-04
This book only teaches you a way to classify different people. You ask yourself 4 questions about a person, and based on the answers you can put him/her into one of 16 profiles. The main problem is that once you have classified the person, you haven't really gained much. Each of the 16 profiles are basically amalgamations of the traits deciphered from those original 4 questions which you asked yourself. So, for instance, you would ask the question "is this person generally fearful or not fearful?" Then, you'd combine the answer (let's say he's not fearful) with the answers to the other 3 questions. Then the profile would say something like "may be confident." To me, this is just a synonym of what you originally measured which is that he is not fearful. There is only about 2 pages on each profile - not nearly enough about motivation or persuading each profile. Korem also does not give enough practical techniques on how to answer the basic 4 questions that he says will help you profile people. For instance, there are no examples of how a fearful or a not fearful person would act in a given situation. For example, I know that fearful people sometimes act overconfident in order to mask their fear. Korem does not give us any way to distinguish this. Finally, the book doesn't offer insight into the fact that people act differently in different situations. For instance, an insecure person may act really tough around subordinates, but will become sickenly sweet to his superiors. Another example: how many people do you know who act completely different at home than at work? Here are some better book recommendations: "Reading People" - for a general intro "Words that Change Minds" & "Selling the Way Your Customer Buys" - Both these books tell you how to ask the right questions in order to discover what makes a person 'tick.' "Secrets of Sexual Body Language" - It's aimed at the dating scene, but it has full color glossy pictures and is actually a very good intro book for studying body language.
The Art of Profiling : Reading People Right the First Time.......1999-12-29
This is an excellent book for beginners who are interested in the art of profiling. It is good because it gives the reader the understanding of how to evaluate people and how to deal with them. That is very important when one is working in big organizations. This book will help you advance on the job. It will do that by giving you an intuition on how to deal with people. With that being said, this book includes exercises to improve one's intuition on the behavior of people. Moving away from all that, I gave it three stars because the book falls short in that it claims that the methods in the book are enough to classify just about any person. I think that the methods are pretty good. However human behavior is much too complex to allow us to classify people into just a few categories.
to text bookie but still interesting.......1999-01-08
When I bought this book I knew Dan Korem worked for the F.B.I. so I thought this maybe would have a lot to do with his cases. It had very little but more on the process. It mainly depends to on what you're looking for in this book. If you want to know the process of profiling this is all you. If you're interested in the jobs that have been done find another one.
