Book Description
For the first thousand years of its history, Ireland was shaped by its wars. Beginning with the legends of ancient battles and warriors,
Wars of the Irish Kings moves through a time when history and storytelling were equally prized, into the age when history was as much propaganda as fact. This remarkable book tells of tribal battles, foreign invasions, Viking raids, family feuds, wars between rival Irish kingdoms, and wars of rebellion against the English. While the battles formed the legends of the land, it was the people fighting the battles—Cuchulain, Finn MacCool, Brian Boru, Robert the Bruce, Elizabeth I, and Hugh O’Donnell—who shaped the destiny and identity of the Irish nation.
This is the real story of how Ireland came to be, told through eyewitness accounts from a thousand years of struggle, brought together for the first time in one volume. It’s a surprisingly immediate and stunning portrait of an all-but-forgotten time that forged the Ireland of today.

Irish Enthisiast.......2005-09-22
Well written and informative. A good collection of original texts from Ireland. Especially useful after reading a good ancient Irish History book.
A wonderful resource.......2001-05-31
This book contains stories from a thousand years of Irish kings, as drawn from primary sources. The book begins with the legendary stories of the Book of Invasions, and the stories of Cuchulain, Finn MacCool and Mad King Sweeney, all of which are translated in a clear and compelling style. The stories then continue through to Hugh O'Neill and the Nine Years War. Each section begins with an introduction, and each chapter begins with a preface that introduces the author and what the author is writing about. As an added bonus, this book includes a glossary of common Irish words used in place names (e.g. dun, bally, etc.) and a guide to pronunciation.
This is a wonderful resource. I have read many books on Irish history, and it is great to be able read about select episodes as written about by people who lived closer to the actual events. The stories are easy to read, and are quite entertaining. I recommend this book.
A Thousand Years and Hundreds (It Seems) of Kings.......2000-12-08
David Willis McCullough has edited and combined many, many original texts of Wars of the Irish Kings (so goes the title) that can be interesting, frustrating, dull or very dull depending on the particular source used. It is a little jarring to go from one of the source writers to another as their styles are often different and the short length of the excerpts does not allow enough time to get used to a particular format or way of expressing ideas before it is time to move on. The flurry of names coming at the reader can be quite daunting, as well. The best and most effective part of the book are the brief introductions before each original source. They are concise, well-written and effectively prepare the reader for what is to come. The book does make me want to read further in Irish history to help fill in some of the gaps left empty by this book.
The Irish.......2000-10-29
Interesting portrayal of the different leaders of Ireland. A book that I read because of my growing interest in the Irish heritage...Maybe that is because of my girlfriend...but definetly a book to read if you are either of Irish hertiage or like to find out about royalty.

Book Description
The Reign of Elizabeth I looks at the difficulties Elizabeth and England faced during a time of war and economic distress, and great social and cultural changes. During this time, England became a Protestant nation, and though Elizabeth tried to keep peace, by the end of her reign England was involved in a war with Catholic Spain. The period was also significant culturally and socially, as gender expectations changed and Shakespeare's plays were part of a great cultural development.

Anne of the Thousand Days / Mary, Queen of Scots
ASIN: 1903365430 |
Product Description
Offering a fresh perspective on the immensely popular area of Tudor history, this first title deals with the reign of Elizabeth I, perhaps England's greatest monarch. Sixteenth-century documents, many in Elizabeth's own hand, are reproduced in full colour, sometimes for the first time. Items are included which cover all aspects of her long and eventful life - from the crises and dangers of her youth, to her relationships with key members of her court and the problematic Mary Queen of Scots, and finally to the closing years of her life as 'Gloriana'. Each key document is beautifully reproduced in a double-page spread which also includes an extended contextualising caption and a modern transcription where necessary. The original sources are woven together by a brief narrative history of the reign, fully illustrated in colour with portraits, photographs and other material from the archives. Featured documents include: * Elizabeth's letter to her sister, Queen Mary, written just before she was sent to the Tower, 16 March 1554 * Elizabeth's first speech as Queen, 20 November 1558 * The proclamation declaring the death sentence against Mary Queen of Scots, 4 December 1586 * The 'last letter' from the Earl of Leicester, the Queens favourite, to Elizabeth, 29 August 1588

Tudor Political Culture
ASIN: 0521024838 |
Book Description
Anne McLaren explores the consequences for English political culture when, with the accession of Elizabeth I, imperial "kingship" came to be invested in a female ruler. She looks at how Elizabeth managed to be queen, in the face of considerable male opposition, and emphasizes the continuities between Elizabeth's reign and the outbreak of the English civil wars in the seventeenth century. Political Culture in the Reign of Elizabeth I thus offers a wholesale reinterpretation of the political dynamics of the period.
Download Description
In this major contribution to Ideas in Context Anne McLaren explores the consequences for English political culture when, with the accession of Elizabeth I, imperial 'kingship' came to be invested in the person of a female ruler. She looks at how Elizabeth managed to be queen, in the face of considerable male opposition, and demonstrates how that opposition was enacted. Dr McLaren argues that during Elizabeth's reign men were able to accept the rule of a woman partly by inventing a new definition of 'citizen', one that made it an exclusively male identity, and she emphasizes the continuities between Elizabeth's reign and the outbreak of the English civil wars in the seventeenth century. A significant work of cultural history informed by political thought, Political Culture in the Reign of Elizabeth I offers a wholesale reinterpretation of the political dynamics of the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

Customer Reviews:
The Price Was Nearly Greater Outside The Ring.......2007-03-29
Back in the day, Ted DiBiase was the ultimate pro wrestling heel - as the Million-Dollar Man - who could get the fans worked up during one of his classic monologues on why, "Every man has his price."
But - in wrestling parlance - it was truly all a "work."
Published a decade ago, the autobiography traces his life as a child who grew up around the business of pro wrestling - he is the stepson of legendary grappler, Iron Mile DiBiase, who passed away in the ring - to how he climbed the ladder to stardom and the pop culture trappings of success that nearly ruined more than his career inside the squared-circle.
There is space devoted to his wrestling career - taking tentative steps while still a student at West Texas State University, the refining of his character in the old NWA territories and attaining main event status - but the book is not only about the industry; it is a testimony on how Christ showed him the direction that ultimately saved his life and his marriage.
DiBiase was blessed with a vision to found Heart of David Ministries and that is a major reason why the book needs to be reissued, with additional information concerning the events in churches, schools and - yes - in the ring throughout the world.
This is not the typical pro wrestling autobiography that focuses solely on the action inside the arena and the drama in the locker room & corporate offices. DiBiase gives the reader his true story and the tragic price he nearly paid without the ultimate tag-team partner in life.
well worth it at any price.......2006-01-31
For most people, Ted DiBiase is not one of the most well-known wrestlers. In the world of pro wrestling, DiBiase is one of the best heels ever. He perfectly played the part of the millionaire wrestler with arrogance and charisma.
This book is far more than just a wrestling autobiography, although you will read about his fine wrestling career. DiBiase delivers enough wrestling stories and details to interest any wrestling fan.
This book also relates the story of a man very devoted to his family and his God. In telling stories of his early family life, DiBiase clearly shows his love of family life. This sets the foundation for his total salvation later in life.
DiBiase also discusses his life on the road as a wrestler and how that life style almost ruined his life. Fortunately, DiBiase's deep commitment to his God and his family saved him. He is very open and honest in discussing all of this. He is a devout Christian and he encourages all to follow his path, but he never comes across as phony or preachy. He just wants all to share in the same love as he does.
This is a very good book for wrestling fans and all others, as well!
Black Glove treatment.......2002-12-16
Ted Dibiase, a.k.a The Million Dollar Man, has added to the growing pantheon of professional wrestling autobiographies / biographies with this self-authored tome. Dibiase, a second-generation professional wrestler, has lived the life and walked the walk that so many wrestling fans desire to read about. The autobiography is a quick read but nonetheless full of candor and detail. Most interesting to me was the circuitous professional history of Iron Mike Dibiase, the father of the Million Dollar Man. These tales of the old days in professional wrestling totally ground the reader in hard work habits and touring road life, moving families about to stay fresh in the public eye. Dibiase's story is one of trial and error. He endured the deaths of both of his parents (both professional wrestlers) and survived the consolidation of the pro wrestling "territories" into just a few dinosaurs, eventually ending where we are at today with one professional organization, the WWE. Dibiase attended college in Texas on a football scholarship, and met several other future pro wrestlers there. The book also chronicles the religious development of Dibiase, presenting a unique Christian point-of-view within the professional wrestling circles that Dibiase was forced to retire from due to injuries suffered in the ring. If you are planning on buying this book for lurid detail and scandal, save your money for the tabloids. Dibiase is a straight-shooter who does without cussing. His biggest shortcoming is that he dropped out of college to earn money as a wrestler to support his family. With his deep bass voice and loaded black glove (his original trademark before becoming the Million Dollar Man) Dibiase could make a good political candidate. I came away from reading this book with more respect for Dibiase and his way of living life. He is a real person with a real voice. He also could have made the book longer with more anecdotes about his accomplishments inside the ring, with more name-dropping and historical recollection. If anything, Dibiase is too modest about his long career. This book is still well worth the cost of admission to glimpse behind the curtain and see the wrestlers as human instead of performers.
waste of money.......2002-09-26
dibiase was in the business for over 20 years. for a man with that much experience he sure wrote a terrible book. he rarely talks about the other wrestlers he met in all those years.too much information about his pre-wrestling years. i'm a wrestling fan for 25 years, i want to read about wrestling and the wrestlers. dibiase wastes chapter after chapter talking about playgrounds, grammer school, how many times he had to move, his grandmother. he talks about his wcw days for approximately 3 pages - what a rip-off.he's a fake and a coward when he refuses to talk about his preChristian partying days. don't waste your time, read dynamite kid's book(british bulldogs)- much more entertaining
Every man will be bored.......2002-07-12
This book was not the wrestling bio I was looking for. Dibiase doesn't go into detail about the "unholy" things that he has participated in during his lifetime. He instead likes to focus on the positive aspects of having God in his life. Thats all well and good but I thought the book was a wrestling bio not a 200 page infomercial for the church. Bottom line..........if you want wrestling stories and detail this is not the book for you. However, if your looking for a great story about a man's love for Jesus Christ this book is great

Theodor Seuss Geiselknown worldwide as the beloved children's author Dr. Seussproduced a body of work that spans more than 70 years. Though most often associated with children's books, he frequently contributed cartoons and humorous essays to popular magazines, produced effective and memorable advertising campaigns ("Quick, Henry, the Flit!"), and won Oscars and Emmys for motion picture productions, animated shorts, and features. As founder and president of Beginner Books, his influence on children's book publishing was revolutionary, especially in the field of elementary readers.
Geisel's prolific careerhe wrote or contributed illustrations to more than 75 books, most of which have been reprinted repeatedly and translated worldwideand his predilection for made-up creatures make this joint bibliography and iconography especially useful to readers and researchers. The exhaustive bibliography is arranged chronologically, providing full bibliographic information, including translations as they appear, reissue information, and descriptions of the binding. The iconography links more than 900 fictional names, places and terms to the works in which they appear. For the reader seeking a first edition of Quomodo Invidiosulus Nomine Grinchus Christi Natalem Abrogaverit (How the Grinch Stole Christmas! translated into Latin) or hoping to identify "abrasion-contusions" (race cars in If I Ran the Circus!), this work promises as much discovery as a walk down Mulberry Street.

Book Description
As a result of both his political reputation--destroyed by false charges of Nazism after World War II--and his rejection of avant-garde techniques, the recordings and compositions of Ernst von Dohnanyi went largely ignored for most of the 20th century. In recent years, however, musicians have begun to revise their interpretations of 20th century music to include compositional and performance styles that, like Dohnanyi's, adhered more closely to 19th century aesthetics. Although performers and audiences worldwide have started to rediscover his musical legacy, scholarship has not kept pace with their growing interest. This bio-bibliography corrects that. As the first scholarly examination in English of Dohnanyi's life and work, it serves as the perfect introduction to an unfairly neglected 20th century artist. A brief but insightful biography is followed by a list of works that reflects the most current research of Dohnanyi's creative output. It includes nearly 200 entries, each of which collects such information as the date of composition, the instrumentation of the work, the publisher of its first edition, the location of the manuscript, and the date and location of its premiere. The discography lists 400 sound recordings of the composer's work, and the annotated bibliography includes 500 entries, emphasizing performance reviews that offer substantial information about Dohnanyi's works and style.

comparatively disappointing.......2007-01-06
This third episode in the Brothers of the Dragon serial stands flashily out.
We find the same attention of the first two books for quick action scenes but the plot takes a much gloomier turn: here the main characters seem to be Katy, who struggles to bring her pregnancy to term in a hostile environment; Robert, who must finally face his self loathing and the havoc it wreaks on his life and the Heart of Darkness herself, with all her malice and hatred.
While many paragraphs seem to point out to the later distinguished author of "Shadowdance" here he/she still has not achieved enough maturity to handle such a thorough analysis of evil.
It is not easy to depict such a pure essence of evil avoiding commonplace: the Heart of Darkness is convincing at times but shallow at others; the depiction of the abuses Robert has suffered as a child are mingled with his guilt about being homosexual, which is understandable, but the author deals with them superficially, leaving too much in the dim, his love with Scott included.
This is why I think that this third book will disappoint most readers: in the first place the lovers of action packed novels who will have loved the first two volumes and who will probably not appreciate the grim turn of events but also the lovers of dark fantasy who will not find it deep enough.
Another source of disappointment will be the clumsy handling of the serial ending: there is space for a sequel, which is customary, but too many points are left unsettled: probably an attempt at realism which is unfortunately out of place in this genre.
Though homosexuality is -finally, this is the third book!- explicitly mentioned there is no graphic sex.

Not an extremly good book.......2003-01-14
For people who have seen the japanese version of dbz/gt they wont be very pleased with this book nice try but needs a lot more work.
A nice try, but much work is needed........2002-11-19
As a previous viewer stated, this really is nothing more than a glorified magazine.I've gone throuh it, cover-to-cover, and I'm wondering if these people have actually SEEN dragonball z. There are numerous problems with it. Errors, mispellings, innaccurate information.
Let's start with the errors. I'm convinced that the authors are little more than American DBZ viewers who have seen a Japanese episode once or twice. The information looks like it was copied directly from a website, complete with mispellings and all. The "biographies" are short, and rarely state anything meaningful or interesting ("Bra is the daughter of Vegeta and Bulma"). Yet another problem : Is it just me, or do poser magazines struggle to get real images? Numerous (100+) of the images in this book are terrible screenshots that are blurry, fuzzy, or grainy (Many so terrible you can hardly make out what it's a picture of).
The synopsis of Dragonball/Dragonball Z/Dragonball GT is not very good either. The author's have a rather snobby view of American fans and a high view of themselves who have, quote, "Seen the REAL version [of DBZ]". Pojo, get off of it. Not even the card game guide is good, with poor strategies and being very outdated. I'm not even gonna start on the pathetic 3-D images thing.
That said, I really do praise Pojo for trying. It's much better than anything Becket or some other magazine company has tried to put out. However, hopefully they will revise it, knowing that DBZ fans are one of the most difficult to please.
Here's the bottom line, for the type of people who would spend $9 on a magazine, I think they will be very pleased. Kids/Teens who are fans of the English version of Dragon Ball Z and are not picky about tiny details will be satisfied. I'm just warning those would consider this a valid source for information. In short, information accurate enough to satisfy those who don't know better, but not on par with some of the stuff that can be found on the internet.
I'm now know Every Thing About DragonBall Z!.......2002-10-16
I thought I knew a lot about DBZ before I bought this book, Boy was I wrong! This book has over 300 Biographies! I now know every one from Unreleased DBZ movies and Characters from DBGT! I knew who Majin Buu was before two years ago! My friends were jealous! Get this book! Make your friends green (like Piccolo!)With Envy! I paid the hefty price from a local book store. Buy it, you won't be disapointed! Oh Yeah there's a funny section about who would should do a DBZ live action movie, about wich Actors should play them!

Book Description
Want to know how best to use eBay? Whether you're a newcomer or longtime user, eBay Hacks will teach you to become efficient as both a buyer and seller. You'll find a wide range of topics, from monitoring the bidding process, getting refunds, and fixing photos so that sale items look their best, to in-depth tips for running a business on eBay and writing scripts that automate some of the most tedious tasks. That's just the nuts and bolts. The book also gives you an inside look into the unique eBay community, where millions of people gather online to buy and sell. Author David Karp--an eBay user himself, with years of experience--teaches you how to work within this community to maximize your success. eBay Hacks includes four powerful sections:
- "Hacks for All" covers eBay's diplomacy and feedback system, describing how you can maintain a good feedback profile and use it to inspire trust in others.
- "Hacks for Buyers" shows you how to focus your searches to find auctions before anyone else--including ways to create an automated search robot. Then, learn how bidding works in the real world, using eBay's proxy bidding system to improve your win rate while spending less money.
- "Hacks for Sellers" teaches strategies for competitive selling, like promoting your items without spending extra money and protecting yourself from deadbeat buyers. Learn how to run a fulltime business on eBay by streamlining the listing process, communications and checkout.
- "Hacks for Developers" delves into eBay's API, an interface for writing programs that do the work that most users have to do by hand through a web browser.
With eBay Hacks, you'll be more than a buyer or seller. You will become a savvy power user who knows the smart way to save time, save money, and dramatically improve auction success.

Cool, very cool book...........2006-02-22
Loved the tips on sniping...although, many buyers can't stand people who do that. I won a t.v./dvd combo for $30. no shipping because it is in my area and I can pick it up. Also, another tv/dvd/vcr combo toshiba 24", that I sniped for $197. I paid no shipping because this one I was close enough to pick up, too. I saw this last tv set for over $300 buck in BestBuy...is that a deal or what. I love eBay. And I know for a fact those other tv's are worth way over $30 bucks, as well. I already have people in my local area who agreed to pay me $85 dollars for it and I haven't even picked it up, yet. $55 dollar profit without doing much...not bad. I love sniping...it's fun!

One of the best eBay books.......2005-04-02
This book is great. It contains a wealth of information that is not found in other books. It is probably not the best book to read first if you are just starting out, because it can make eBay seem a bit overwhelming. This book is worth buying.
After reading the top eBay books, below are my recommendations:
---Beginner with eBay and computers---
1. The Official eBay Bible
---eBay Seller---
1. Sell it on eBay
2. eBay Hacks
---Full-Time eBay Business (not for the casual seller)---
1. eBay Strategies
2. eBay Business the Smart Way
Looking Under eBay's Skirts.......2004-09-09
Ah eBay. Purveyor of treasures and reliever of junk. Is there a bigger garage sale in the world? I think not! But there are many ways to make it easier to make your "millions" on eBay then the old fashion way. (You still have to "earn it" however.)
Within this list of 100 tips and tools you will get an insider's look on how to become the most effective buyer or seller on eBay you can be. Being a novice myself, I learned more from this book than all the other eBay books combined. It cuts all the cutsie fluff and gets to the business end of the eBay: making you money.
An easy start is getting the eBay Toolbar. You should already be using the Google Toolbar so you know how much easier the eBay Toolbar can make your buying and selling. But for me selling was my main focus in eBay Hacks and I was not disappointed. I found how to automate sending my payment instructions using built-in PayPal service that I didn't even know existed. The then there was the prepaid mailing slips that will save me hours of time in line at the Post Office. But wait, I found out that I could generate these prepaid shipping labels from my PayPal account also. What doesn't this marriage between PayPal and eBay NOT bring forth?
But the one that will probable make me the most money is using The Merchant and Editor Kits on eBay. On them I can create search boxes and category listing that I can host on my own web site and make going to my or other's auction a breeze; and I get paid for them doing so. Now how cool is that?
Great guide but needs updating.......2004-08-26
This book is excellent for both the novice and experienced eBayer alike. Everyone who uses eBay regularly should be able to take something away from this book.
As a previous reviewer has stated, some of the tips are common sense, and come straight off the ebay site. However, its great to have these tips in one place and easily referenced. This can serve as a checklist for your own buying and selling procedures.
PS: Second edition has now been released. Make sure you are buying the new one.
The one big negative - no coverage of the latest 'bid sniping software'. This automates your bidding, allows better planning, does not increase the sell value early in the auction and maximizes the chance of winning (by placing a bid in the last seconds of auction). This software isn't highly publicized by ebay.
This is a great book, but look out for newer texts covering the latest auction software.
eBay Hacks - Awesome Book.......2004-07-29
eBay Hacks isn't a 'how to use eBay' book, and it doesn't try to be. Instead, it's a great collection of strategies, advice, and software tools to be used when buying and selling on eBay. I have already increased my sales and found new ways to save time creating auctions. And for buyers, there are sniping and searching hacks. The code is a little over my head, but maybe someday... Altogether, an awesome book, and a must for anyone who uses eBay.
