Mr. Cisneros, venezuelan pride.......2004-08-12
This book demonstrates that in the world of the business, besides the luck, they are necessary other variables, as brain, heart and corage. For the Venezuelans, this book is a pride.
Book Description
The racing world held its collective breath in 2001 when Alex Zanardi lost both his legs in a horrifying accident at the Lausitzring in Germany. The racing world again held its breath nineteen months later while witnessing his incredible return to racing. Bentley Publishers is thrilled to announce the publication of the North American edition of Alex Zanardi's autobiography, which quickly sold over 50,000 copies in his native Italy. Alex Zanardi: My Sweetest Victory recounts his incredible story as only Alex can tell it. He takes us from his childhood in Italy through his hard-fought racing success to the moving story of perseverance and love that motivated his recovery. Along the way, Zanardi presents his triumphs and setbacks in kart racing, Formula 3 & 3000, Formula 1, IndyCar and CART racing, culminating in back-to-back CART championships for 1997 and 1998. In riveting detail, Zanardi relates his terrible accident, the long path to recovery and his return to Lausitzring in a specially modified 750hp Champ Car to complete the 13 laps he didn't finish in 2001. In addition to 32 pages of color photos, including many from the Zanardi family albums, Alex Zanardi: My Sweetest Victory also includes the following new features: a foreword by Alex Zanardi's friend and supporter Mario Andretti, a chronology of Alex's racing career, and a new final chapter in which Alex discusses his return to competitive racing in the 2004 European Touring Car Championship driving for BMW Team Italy-Spain. Alex Zanardi: My Sweetest Victory is an inspiring story of how personal strength and passion can triumph over even the most challenging circumstances.

Who edits these things?.......2007-04-15
If the purpose of a memoir is to provide readers with an unedited and disorganized stream of consciousness (that completely lacks psychological insight), then Alex Zanardi accomplishes his mission with great brio. What you will find in this (much too) thick volume are meaningless anecdotes that are followed by more meaningless anecdotes. To be exact, the book reads like a transcription of slapped together interviews. I guarantee that you will be bored to tears after just 10 pages. For a better, more interesting look at Zanardi's life and accomplishment you would be much better off checking HBO's Real Sports documentary.
Zanardi does not disappoint.......2005-09-16
Alex Zanardi was a truly inspirational competitor on the track and one of the best characters off it. His fightback against crushing odds and his chase to have his life back at normal are inspirational and uplifting. For those who marvelled at his CART days and wondered about the disappoint at his F1 with Williams, there is some explanation here. There is no doubt that he is an exceptional driver and even more so an exceptional human being. He is now racing in the world touring car championship for BMW.
Must Have!.......2005-08-16
If you are a race fan, you will really enjoy this one. Alex is truly a hero.
Inspiring and moving tale.......2005-04-08
The way that Zanardi deals with his adversity is humbling and inspirational. Anyone who likes adventure or sports biography will really enjoy this title.
Many thanks to Alex.......2005-01-20
Although this book has moments when the narrative loses its rhythm, it is still organized and it is meaningful. Moments when the narration deviates off course can be managed by imagining Mr. Zanardi sitting with you at a Cafe, telling you all his memorable moments and anecdotes. He always has a great regard for his fans, so I can imagine this meeting easily. His narrative deviates like most casual speakers when he chooses to tell some extra information about the current subject, perhaps jumping to another time in his life. Still, the book reads well. The book is an English translation, and the translation is a good one.
In my opinion, Alex Zanardi lifts a huge burden from his fans. Please read this book to see how. His enthusiasm towards his American fans is obvious.
Alex Zanardi, as well as his best friends (like J.V. and T.K.), provides such a model for us in sportsmanship and acceptance of our human nature. This book shows how the best find each other, and support each other. Does Mr. Zanardi ever give up being this role model? Read to find out. Does Alex take his share of responsibility when his career is not going so well? I have a better idea about this now. Does he take or share the credit when things go well? Any fan who has watched him knows how gracious he is.
My review is about how I appreciate what Alex Zanardi has done and how he tells us about it. If you are an auto sport fan, or simply a Zanardi fan, you will enjoy this book. I imagine that anyone having to experience rehabilitation will find a true companion in this book. I can also imagine someone enjoying this book just for Alex Zanardi's sense of humor and how he manages it in this highly competitive endeavor of life. It is a fun read and very much appreciated.

Book Description
Relentless determination, unrivaled charisma, and the ability to climb into any type of race car and win has made Mario Andretti a household name for more than thirty years. His accomplishments include four USAC and CART titles, the 1978 Formula One World Championship, winning the 1967 Daytona 500 and 1969 Indianapolis 500, and three victories in the grueling 12 Hours of Sebring sports-car race.
Mario achieved his dream against enormous odds. As a boy in Italy he and his family lived among Nazis under Communist occupation, lost everything they owned, and emigrated to America in 1955. As a teenager he built his first Hudson stock car and won his very first race. His unmistakable talent soon earned him seats in better, faster cars. Just six years after his first race, he drove to his first USAC championship and was Rookie of the Year at the 1965 Indy 500.
For the first time, his extraordinary life story is presented through exclusive interviews with Mario, his family, and the drivers and teams he raced with. In-depth descriptions of his greatest races and cars, combined with behind-the-scenes team photos and commentary by Mario himself, provide an insider's perspective on the progression of racing technology and the teamwork behind a winning effort.
Mario Andretti: A Driving Passion documents the toughness, intelligence, and humor that makes Mario the man so compelling and reveals the remarkable mixture of determination and luckboth good and badthat defined his career as the most versatile and accomplished racer of all time.

A very enjoyable read. .......2005-09-05
This book is awesome in every way. The text is entertaining and informative. The photos are first rate, as well as abundant. This is my favorite book! Mario Andretti is the man, and this book gives a clear and very close-up look at his life and career.
Adnretti, an American Racing Icon.......2004-03-02
A totally comprehensive account of Mario Andretti's racing career and the machinery that took him to the top of world-wide motorsport. Completely unvarnished and truthful about the ups and downs of a racing driver's life, this is a must-have book for the boomer-generation racing fan.
Mario Andretti: A Driving Passion.......2002-11-28
Mario Andretti was the best race car driver of 20th century - bar none! Gordon Kirby is one of the best auto racing authors. When you get Gordon Kirby writing about Mario Andretti, you get an excellent book. The photographs in this book are "awesome!!!". Your money will not be wasted when you buy this book.

Not Up to Par.......2000-02-24
As the United States' and Lotus' most recent Formula One champion, Mario Andretti has become an idol to the Lotus faithful. There is no lack of books detailing the extensive racing career of our Mario, however, these numerous publications are generally expansive and cover the dirt tracks, Champ cars, Stock cars and Sports cars as well as his Formula One success. Mario Andretti Photo Album does the same but is clearly focuses on his Grand Prix career. As such, there is a majority of coverage dedicated to his time with Lotus.
Mario Andretti Photo Album is, as its name suggests, a photo album. The text is limited to a three-page history of Mario's racing exploits and subheadings with each photo. They do a decent job in giving a basic knowledge of his career, but do not give the detailed information that enthusiasts crave. Likewise too much information is repeated from page to page. But the book is not about words. It is a photo album. In that department there is disappointment as well. All of the photos are black and white. The paper they are printed on is poor quality for photo reproduction. There are few photos that details of the cars can be seen. Drama is limited to some facial expressions and some descriptions in the text.
Still, the book does accomplish something worthwhile. It separates Mario's Grand Prix career from the rest of his extensive record. In doing so it covers a great deal of Lotus history. It is too bad the quality of the photos is not up to par.
This review first appeared in the newsletter of Lotus Limited
Hate to say it, but..........2000-01-09
This book is rather disappointing. Nygaard's photographs are lackluster and the reproductions are worse than you would find in your daily newspaper. As only the second American to be crowned World Driving Champion, Mario deserves better.
Beware.........1999-12-17
Beware...this photo book has black and white photos only.

Great Mario Autobiography.......2002-10-29
When I was growing up, Mario Andretti was one of my heroes. When you put Jim Clark and Mario Andretti on the same racetrack, I was in heaven. This book is the ideal coffee-table book about the greatest race car driver of the 20th century but you may want to put your copy in a cabinet like I do (so that it doesn't get damaged). The readers of "Racer" Magazine voted Mario the best. The photography in this book is fantastic, even the older black and whites are clear. If you like racing especially the "good-old-days", then you will love this book.

Book Description
Written by a foremost authority on popular culture, Mae West: "She Who Laughs, Lasts" is a biographical study of a very popular, even legendary, twentieth-century figure that places her in the larger context of the changing times spanned by her fifty-year career. West's life and work offer information and insight into women's history as well as the history of popular culture. Her experiences as an independent woman with bold views of women's sexuality were a kind of barometer of America's changing values. Financially independent and generally unattached, she offered women an unusual model for life. Her celebrity status gave her public exposure beyond the expectations or desires of most entertainers. Her struggle with censorship provided a continuing public stage for her as an individual of indomitable will. As a writer and performer, Mae West was well ahead of her time.
Customer Reviews:
An American Entertainment Pioneer.......2006-11-25
June Sochen's "Mae West: She Who Laugh's Last," published in 1992 in a paperback edition, comprised part of an American Biographical History Series. Aimed at a sophisticated audience, Schon made the point, "West was not a social activist, an organizer, or a member of any women's group. The only group she belonged to was the Mae West Fan Club. She was an American pioneer: She created herself, became a rugged individualist and permanently imprinted her image on the American imagination."
Highly recommended for the serious Mae West scholar.
Small but good book.......2001-09-04
Well researched and written. A little book, part of a series I think, but worth buying. No photos unfortunately, but a good addition to a Mae West book collection.
Book Description
The ultimate guide to the cell phone, the ubiquitous and indispensable pocket-sized gadget that has changed forever the way we live.
This is the first book to celebrate the cell phone phenomenon. It not only gives an insider's view of the design and feel of handsets and interfaces, but also highlights those little (and sometimes not so little) differences in how our favorite invention is used around the world. The perfect mix of information and entertainment, it explains everything from how Japanese schoolgirls set global trends to why text messaging is big news during Ramadan, to the popularity of push-to-talk in the United States.
Phone Book examines how different generations use cell phones and how and why they have become fashion items. It covers the history of the development of handset design; the fifty most influential designs; predictions for the future that have turned out to be right (and wrong); and the influence that cell phones have on other products. And there are in-depth case studies of leading brands, including Nokia, Samsung, SonyEricsson, Vertu, and Motorola, as well as the lowdown on technologies such as camera phones, texting, connectivity, and 3G.
Features include:
Over 500 color illustrations
Glossary
Texting dictionary
Directory of online resources
Special padded binding

Teeny, tiny, dark type on a dark patterned background!.......2007-07-21
Perhaps the author has something worthwhile to say, but sadly it is unreadable. Someone apparently thought that printing all the text gray, in 4 point type on a dark checkered background was cool. But what were the rest of the people in the publishing company doing? Well, I suppose it makes a nice picture book.
Nice pictures with magazine-like approach.......2007-01-17
The Phone Book is intended for browsing as much as it maybe have been intended for reading. The layout and design are are beautiful. The book briefly touches on the history, markets, cultures, brands, design, and features of cell phones.
The thing is that I wasn't looking for a book like this. I really wanted something like CNET Do-It-Yourself Camera and Music Projects (which I now have) that tells me how I can use my smartphone for all kinds of tasks.
I would recommend the Phone Book to anyone who wants an easy-to-digest overview to the phone business.

The Best Crossword Collections Published.......2002-08-14
As a long time fan of the Simon and Schuster's Crossword Puzzle books series I continue to look forward eagerly to the publication of each new edition. The cruciverbalists (crossword puzzle constructors) keep coming up with new and varied themes which are always interesting and entertaining. The format is the best available for serious and novice crossword solvers since the books are spiral bound and will lay flat. The pages are easily erasable and I wish these books came out more frequently.
