This is a book that I didn't mind buying twice.
I LOVED their advice on dating, and how girls need to love themselves first. The book is BIG on the importance of self-esteem.
I found "Venus and Serena . . ." to be motivational and insightful, and I highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Great For 9 to 12 year olds........2004-10-31
This beautifully illustrated book is intended to show the future star how the game is played at the top levels. The book includes quite a bit of commentary on the game, including tips on cloths, rackets, tactics, and how practice reallly does make your game improve. It is intended to not take the place of a personal coach, but to be of help to the starting player.
The exercises and pointers given by the Williams sisters will get you started if you don't have a coach, and will provide questions to ask him, and support for his answers if you do. The book is aimed at the 8 or 9 year old up to perhaps the 12 or 13 year old. It's written at a level that they will understand, and appreciate.
My daughter LOVES this book.......2004-08-11
After our family spent many hours watching Wimbledon earlier this year, my 8-year-old daughter started showing interest in the sport. Now that she's got this beautiful book by Venus and Serena Williams, she is HOOKED. Every day she begs me to take her to our local courts so that she can practice her swings. She's got a long way to go, but at least she's spending her last few days of summer 1. reading and 2. being active. Recommended!
Book Description
The Williams sisters have captured the attention of the tennis crowd like no one has in recent years. Taken alone, each is a force to be reckoned with on the court. Each has the skills, the determination, and the strength to make it to the very top of her sport. Venus and Serena: Serving From The Hip: 10 Rules for Living, Loving, and Winning
ASIN: 0313331650 |
Book Description
The author shares the life stories of Venus and Serena Williams, who charged onto center court in professional tennis at the end of the 20th century with a force never before seen in the sport. No other women tennis players have matched their strength, their speed, or their overall athleticism, and none have achieved the status and celebrity they have gained on and off the court as they powered to the number one and two rankings in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Venus and Serena Williams represent in many ways a shift in attitudes concerning women in sports, particularly African American women. By playing tough tennis, they conveyed to the public that it was acceptable for women to be strong, to have muscles, and to compete. When Venus and Serena first appeared in the public eye, their hair bound in beads bespoke their ethnic pride, the braces on their teeth belied their youth, and their grit and determination enabled them to withstand challenges concerning the attitudes of these young African American women in what had traditionally been a "white-washed sport." This book shares their stories, and it provides a way to consider the impact of race, gender, and culture, and the influence these have through sport in shaping popular culture. Includes a timeline and a bibliography of print and electronic sources for additional research.

With all the action tennis sisters Venus and Serena Williams have brought to the sport, it's near certain Jacqueline Edmonson's Venus And Serena Williams: A Biography will bring added attention and a ready audience. The life stories of the tennis pro sisters is shared in chapters which cover their stories and associated topics of gender and race. An excellent addition to Greenwood's biography series.

A Bad Book.......2003-04-29
I read Venus and Serena:The Grand Slam Williams Sisters. It talks about Venus and Serena playing against each other and their debut as pros.It also gives you some pointers on playing tennis. In the book, they include cool facts about them. I didn't like it when they gave the scores, because they didn't always say who's score was who's!
OK, but not worth the money.......2002-01-04
This book wasn't great; it was just okay. Personally, the book went just a little too quick for me in the sense that Venus and Serena's early life wasn't discussed in much detail; only their current tournaments and lifestyles were written about in more detail. Other than that one major criticism, though, there were a few good elements to the book. It was very informative, and it would be worthwhile to read if you are doing a biography on Venus and /or Serena Williams. Nonetheless, all in all, I rate this book a three because there are definitely better books on the Williams sisters out there. Save your time and your money, unless you want a dozen or so quick facts about the Williams.

Worth the Money.......2003-02-19
I just purchased the DVD and It was worth the money. The only thing was they didn't have any interviews with their mother.
The story of Richard In Shreveport Louisana being held down
and having something nailed in his leg sent Chills down my spine
I am originally from Louisiana myself. The footage with the girls on the carasel was too cute Venus helping Serena even then
to be safe was cute. Man they have a heavy workout routine to prepare for tournaments. Richard is really the man to manage to come from where he did to make it to the place he is now.
So all in all this was a pretty good story I loved the footage with each grand slam they won. I was really nice to see them at home just relaxing in between their workouts. Go out and bye the tape it's worth it once again.

Clueless?.......2001-05-05
While this book was very interesting, in a sense, there wasn't enough about actual teen films. The youth culture bit was detailed and very involved, but as for the relation of this to teen films, there was only a few chapters which were really helpful. As I'm presently doing a university dissertation (10,000 wd. thesis) on youth culture and teen films, and this is one of the few books written on the topic, I of course found it useful. Though many of the ideas helped me through my work, at the same timee, I kind of finished using the book wanting more. Perhaps this is because it appears so out of date being over a decade old and as a result many of the new films entering the genre have been missed. Despite this, at the end of the day, it was useful, just not as fun as it could have been.
Book Description
Hydroponics is more sophisticated today thanks to digital technology, and this book’s straightforward text with color photographs thoroughly illustrates these advances. The book shows how to set up a marijuana garden, implement basic techniques, and maximize production and potency.
Customer Reviews:
But not as small as Indoor Marijuana Horticulture.......2004-10-07
I think a novice grower should really spend a little more time growing before trying to sell us 23 pages of a hydro chapter in Indoor Marijuana Horticulture as being better than this book. This book is April 2001. Indoor Marijuana Horticulture is September 2001. This book is devoted to hydro and not cannabis cultivation in its entire. Are you Jorge Cervantes or something? No wonder the spelling in your book is so bad if you can not get your own name right. Did not know you where a novice hydro grower Jorge? Oh well, that sort of puts things in perspective for everybody. Toodle-loo from a ED ROSENTHAL fan.
small and old.......2004-10-05
This is my first review and i thought it was worth my time to write this one so here you go.I only picked up this book to add to my library because i heard Tom Flowers was a good author on the subject. This might be alright for a NOVICE grower but even then you might as well start with a GOOD alround book.Im new at hydro and i would never recommend this book, critical info is not there as far as (ph,tds,ec,meter details and functions, mediums and differences, qaulity of the h20 specs,) even the equipment that is listed is terrible and theres ALOT better options now.It really seems just like any book from the 80s and now its WAY out dated,George Cervantes updated version of indoor cultivators chapters on meters,ph,h20,and hydro is a way better choice for the novice or expert with all the new equipment and setups+lots of great pics. One more thing Tom Flowers book is about 85 pages buts seems like 50and very poor info seems to by a BIG rip off !!! MEL FRANK..ED ROSENTHAL...GEORGE CERVANTES... the 3kings on the subject Connel Clarke ok too.
Not to shabby.......2002-02-05
With a minimum knowledge of cultivation, you could pull off some good crops. Readers really need another source of information, this book just doesn't have EVERYTHING you need to know, but it's still a good reference.
not very detailed on hydro systems.......2001-10-23
while it mentions the different hydroponic systems used for marijuana cultivation, it's not very detailed on their setups. .On the other hand, it discusses nutrients, equipment, and Pests very well. Overall i liked it and would reccomend it, as there is alot of good info in it, but I think it needs more detail in the hydro systems chaptor.
great book.......2000-12-24
this book is great it has lots of info on how to grow hydo marijauna and there are many great techniques on how to grow. its a great book and well worth buying.

My View About This Career Path Book.......2006-08-18
When someone has a difficult time deciding what he/she wants to do career-wise, then this book should help them make a decision, because it is based on their personality. Otherwise,
they're left just possibly clueless as to what to do for a job to support themselves and/or a family.
Very insightful!.......2005-09-07
This book was recommended to me by my company's HR training manager and it is brilliant! Written for people who know their Myers-Briggs type, it describes the sort of work environment your type would thrive in along a continuum; meaning, it allows for a range of behavior and is flexible enough to avoid rigidly defining you and your options, yet it's defined enough to be helpful. I know that many people consider Myers-Briggs to be hocus-pocus, but if you found the typing to be insightful, you'll find the book to be doubly so. For someone who is job hunting -- or in my case, considering switching careers -- it really gave me a new perspective on how I work, and what works best for me, along with suggested fields and suggested positions in those fields. One caveat, this book isn't a job-hunters guide. It just helps you find your direction, and reminds you of your work preferences to guide you when you are considering a potential job.
Best Career Book I've Read.......2003-04-05
I'm 32 and in the midst of a career change which has involved extensive self assessment. Prior to reading this book I visited several career counselors, took the PAR Self Directed Assessment and Myers Briggs assessment and read numerous books on careers. This book really surprized me. At first I was skeptical but after going through it I was very impressed with the personality typing system and how well my personality type matched me. The only warning that I would have is that since the listing of the possible careers are in broad categories a person needs to spend some time learning about different careers by talking to people in them, reasearching and shadowing at the workplaces before jumping ahead. For example, I might be excellent as a dental researcher but hate the routine of the day to day practice of dentistry. However, this is a great book and I recommend it highly as a starting point in any career search.
"Know Thyself"
Not complete, but better than anything else.......2002-02-19
This book is the best MBTI career book I've found. It has none of the breezey overproduced style of the Tieger books. Dunning conveys information in rational categories with a friendly manner. The reason I didn't give her book more stars is that Dunning (like all the other authors who use the MBTI approach) fails to help the reader to decide on a career because she merely lists compatible jobs at the end. Sure, they are grouped into "professional", "business", "Art and design", etc but what does "art and design" have to do with "business"? It makes more sense to group jobs into personality based catergories. It's also frustrating that the author does not go from a type's description to an analysis of that type and a particular job. Dunning does have lengthy anecdotes about representatives of each type but these stories are not enough. This failure to connect personality type to a job characterizes all the personality based career guides. This situation makes me believe they don't know much about careers or personality types. Please, someone write a real MBTI career counseling book!
