What I thought it would be!!.......2004-08-03
I've never read a romance before, but it's what I expected it to be - fluff!
If you enjoy the notion of virgin women who act tough on the outside but really just want to melt into the arms of the first man (with a farmer's tan, a bit of muscle, over 6 feet tall, and raise cattle) on the inside (so they can marry them and lose their virignity) then this might be a good read for you.
Or you can take that plot structure and put meat on it for your own amusement, since that is all Diana Palamer has done. And maybe you'll be able to do a better job of convincing your readers of the love that was supposed to have sprung from sudden, uninvited, sexual advances, and put a little more steam into the detail of the marriage consumation acts.

While I will not be as brutal as many of the reviewers here I, too, was disappointed with this book. All three stories lacked the charismatic heroes of her best works, and the heroines lacked spirit as well. They all fell in love in a matter of days, there was no emotional conflict as has been Palmer's hallmark and none of the steamy dialogue and sexual tension that has made me such a fan of many of her past works. I never thought I would have to force myself through a Diana Palmer book, but I did with this one. The best thing about this collection is that at least the heroes don't smoke like chimneys. It probably deserves fewer stars than I am giving, but as I devoted fan I cannot bring myself to do it. Suffice it to say, this one is going to the used bookstore, pronto.

While not quite up to the quality of some of the earlier Long Tall Texans, these guys weren't obnoxiously macho either. I certainly liked them much better then Justin and Calhoun.
I thought the story with Luke Craig and the camp for delinquent boys was touching and enjoyed the other two stories also. Not an outstandingly wonderful book--but a pleasant evening's read and I also bought the audio book and enjoyed it too.

I like Diana Palmer's books and really enjoy finding the ones that have gone out of print so I was really excited when I went to the bookstore and found the latest intstallment of the Long Tall Texans. I got it home read it in about two minutes and hated it. It was a waste of my money and I hope that her new book Paper Rose brings her back to the great writing that all of her fans know she is capable of. Hoping for something better. P.S. If you are going to write a book don't make it so hurried, and I can buy lots of far fetched Romance stories, but having known a person for five minutes just does not seem long enough to decide to get married

I Have The Audacity To Doubt This Book's Veracity.......1999-01-02
I'm not saying that people don't have spiritual gifts, but I do question much of Penny Thornton's vision. I must agree with the previous "critic", however, regarding the dream about the car: it shocked me so, that I read it over and over and got tears in my eyes; (if this part is pure fiction, I would have a terrific bone to pick with Ms. Thornton about lies and playing with another's emotions!).The book is a good enough read, but nothing spectacular.
The author's prophetic dreams will amaze you!!.......1998-03-12
Author Penny Thornton describes 2 dreams she had in 1986 or '87, in which Diana is seen with "a white car moving ahead, leaving the black car behind." Consider that this book was published two years BEFORE Diana's accident, and this is nothing short of phenomenal!! Several other parellels occur in these 2 dreams, as well. This is a book worth reading for those who can't get enough of Diana.
Andrew Morton portrayed Princess Di as the angel she was........1998-02-22
I feel that Andrew morton protrayed Princess Daina as the Angel that we all knew of that helped those in need. I espesially enjoyed the chapter "My cries for help" talking of her problems with Prince Charles and her marriage. And that of her Bulimia. I would like to take this moment to thank Andrew Morton. CALAMITY MOM by Diana Palmer was a story I couldn't get into--mostly because it was almost impossible to follow. The story opens with a whole bunch of people talking and no explanation as to who's who or what's going on. I had to keep re-reading pages to try and keep everything straight. I shouldn't have to do that. I was left feeling as lost as if I'd been dropped into the middle of a jungle and left to find my way out without a map or a compass. Two stars.
THE APARTMENT by Debbie Macomber was the only enjoyable story in this anthology. While it uses a theme that this author has used in other books (a man and a woman end up accidentally renting the same apartment and are forced to live together until they can make other arrangements), it didn't feel cliched or boring. I really liked the characters in this one, even the overbearing mother. The author was able to portray the meddling mother in a way that she felt loving, rather than a control freak. Sure, she still drove the heroine crazy (and I could see why), but she was more than just a caricature. The only complaint I had about this story was that the reasons keeping the hero and heroine apart seemed rather trite. Their separation felt rather forced; manufactured for the sake of the story. It just didn't feel real. It was a shame, considering that the rest of the novella was enjoyable. Three stars, as this isn't a story I'd bother to read again.
A SPECIAL REQUEST by Judith Duncan didn't read like a romance to me. The majority of the story is told from the son Davy's point-of-view. It would have worked for a children's book or a young adult novel, but didn't really work for a romance. A few sections here and there would have been fine, but when it was big portions of the story it was overkill. Two stars.
Recommended only if you're a hard-core Debbie Macomber fan. Otherwise, skip this one. Even her story isn't all that outstanding.
Short and Wonderful!.......1999-10-31
All three romances in this book are very pleasant to read. I especially enjoy "The Apartment" written by Debbie MacOmer. It not only wonderfully dipicts the love relationship between a man and a woman who by chance become roommates, but also a mother's emotional strugle when it comes to her daughter's independence. It is a short and very well-developed story!

The Best Book on Diana.......2005-08-01
I found this book to be the best Diana book I have read. I do belive this story. I think Diana and Dodi did care for each other and I think Rene is telling it like he saw it. the book lets you see the personal side of Diana as well as Dodi.the book also tells you what happened the night of the crash. this book is the only book on Diana that I did not get bored with.a great love story.
One of the sweetest Diana books - a delightful read........2002-05-31
I've probably read all or nearly all the books on Diana. Somehow I'd missed this one until a friend gave it to me as a gift. While I didn't give it 5 stars for its great literary qualities, I thought that for Diana fans, it delightfully delivered the goods - it is a pleasing intimate portrait with plenty of detail (food, clothes, toiletries, habits) yet with a real sense of affection, humor and respect.
Setting this apart from most Diana books is the uniquely likeable voice of the narrator. Delorm is a class act, a man who respected and liked his boss, Dodi Fayed, and who seems to view everyone from his wealthy employer to his fellow cooks, butlers and masseuses with generosity of spirit and an open mind. This is a refreshing contrast with the self serving busybody tone of Patrick Jephson's Diana book, or any of the royal "experts" who simultaneously envy, fawn and snipe.
The author's joie de vivre and eye for detail turn this book into a lovely little vacation on a yacht, along with two people we might have enjoyed knowing very much. And unlike many books published after their deaths, it does not lay on the pathos, but instead is more of a celebration.
All in all, this is an intimate book you can enjoy without feeling like a voyeur, and a very welcome read for anyone who misses Diana. She sounds like a lot of fun.
A great escape read in these glamour-free times. Highly recommended.
A simple, but affectionate, recollection.......2001-07-06
Rene Delorm, Dodi Fayed's former Butler, was clearly devoted to his former employer and this affection shines through these memoirs.
The scene is well set with a brief thumbnail sketch relating how his and Dodi's paths originally crossed, before the more eagerly-awaited period is focussed upon. Never overstating his case, Delorm recounts the beginnings of Dodi's affair with the Princess of Wales with disarming candour and seems to me conscious of the temptation to embroider upon his recollections or, worse still, hypothesise on what the future for the couple may have held. This temptation he scrupulously avoids and it is to his credit that he refers only to what he saw and heard and shies away from hearsay and speculation.
While necessarily anecdotal in content, the book gives a charming, if simplistic, insight into their last days together and makes an interesting addition to the huge library of titles dealing with the demise of Diana and Dodi, by one who was well-placed to observe their intimacies. Paul Burrell, Diana's Butler, (whom she referred to as her "rock") is arguably in a better position to reveal her state of mind in these last weeks but has, to date, sensitively deferred from comment. Delorm's book, though, is an affectionate and poignant recollection and his grief on hearing the devastating news is tangible.
Diana and Dodi A Love Story.......2000-11-19
This book was very warm, discreet and also revealing of a mgical romance. Anyone that loves Diana will be extremely happy with this book.
In this book you can feel that Diana is being a real person- happy, smiling, laughing, eating, and falling in love, relaxing- an image she never got by hundreds of people- it is sad that her life was cut so short. She was a lovely, gracious woman who left way to early in life. Her time with Dodi- was to start a lifetime of romance that was ever so sweet. that was cut very short too.Now we will never know if they were to ever marry or not.
I am a greatful of Rene for sharing his memories with the world of Diana- allowing people to see and to hear about her romance.
Doomed Duo.......2000-11-07
A starry-eyed account of the doomed pair's romance by Dodi's butler. So protective is Delorm of his late boss that he never mentions model Kelly Fisher, whom he must have known Dodi was two-timing after Diana came along.
But Delorm's devotion can be touching. "You left me," he wrote in the condolence book at Dodi's funeral, and then dissolved into tears.
A very one-sided look into a doomed duo's romance.

James Hewitt wrote a book about his relationship with the deceased Princess Diana in 1992 about their affair that lasted from 1985 to 1991. It is an romantic and interesting story that people who love gossippy things. I found it passionately fastinating.

It's important to note right off that Essential Flash 5 for Web Professionals is strictly for those "Web professionals" who are new to Flash, and that the lessons are tutorial-based: readers must follow along, recreating, step-by-step, two specific projects (the files for which can be downloaded from the publisher's site, http://www.phptr.com/essential/flash5). The book is not good for jumping around or trying to troubleshoot some pressing problem for your own Flash animation (for example, trying to quickly find out how to make an animated rollover button).
For those beginners who appreciate a friendly, low-tech boost up Flash's daunting learning curve, the compact-sized Essential Flash 5 is a good choice. The text features a gentle walk-through of two fairly simple projects. The artwork is closer to the homemade look of a local business rather than cutting edge, visually sophisticated sites; however, this same lack of whiz-bang visuals might be more accessible and inviting for those who are easily overwhelmed by new technology. And the author does a good job of explaining the many options available when publishing your movie.
One nice feature gets readers quickly off the ground: the opening chapter shows how to recreate a non-Flash site using Flash. Subsequent chapters elaborate, adding rollovers, animations, and even a form. If your boss just expanded your job description to include "Web professional" by dumping the company's Web site in your lap, this book will at least help you save face at the next office roundtable. -Angelynn Grant

Basically for simple instruction, some bonus material.......2001-11-04
Here's the skinny on my rating:
The Pros: 1.Flash 5 for Web Professionals is simple and easy to read (ie. the author doesn't assume that you are a flash guru or a uber-techie). 2.The sections on flash plug-in detection and preloading are invaluable (some other more in-depth books forget about plug-in detection) 3. It explains the stuff you need in order to get started with a flash applications such as tweening, simple animated buttons, timelines, and sound--and it isn't the size of the Bible. 4. Publishing chapter is very helpful and easy to understand. 5. It has a 'live' website for you to see the lessons that you learned in action.
The Cons: 1. The insturctions regarding flash tools and effects are very basic (as in you will not know how everything works and how to do all that cool stuff one sees on icebox.com). 2. It is not aimed at the web professional, but towards the beginner and therefore never gets into the truly complicated, flashy and impressive stuff needed for high-end sites such as e-commerce sites, sites with database integration, and sites using movie-clip/draggable windows-type inspired navigation. 3. The site that you construct using this book and the 'live' website version of the book are truly--asthetically speaking--hideous and not inspiring in the creative department to say the least (but, hey, no one can make you be creative).
After weighing the pros and cons, I gave this book a 4 because of what it DID do for me that I found not explained as simply in better titles (such as Foundation Flash 5). I found the publishing chapter to be very helpful and even found use for the 'previous/next' button actionscripting explained in the book.
While certainly not the best Flash book out there, if you are a web professional then maybe this would get 3 stars and Foundation Flash 5 is far better for beginners, this book does deliver some worthy content for (the price).
Conquering the Curve.......2001-07-20
Some learning curves are so high that it takes a TON of concentrated effort to become proficient. I bought this book a year ago and it was a GREAT starting point.
I know consider myself an expert, having read and absorbed the whole Flash 5 Bible, and more...but I never would have understood the BIBLE had I not worked through this book. It's one of those things that WHILE you're learning...you don't understand, but then afterwards...you're like OH! I GOT IT!
It's a pretty neat book. The only thing I don't like about it is that there is no cd...the files had to be downloaded, which was a pain as I learned Flash on my laptop...but still...
DEFINATELY A GOOD BOOK TO GET YOU STARTED

I actually thought this book was pretty good. I have never used flash but I learned to do a simple animation within an hour. I know there is a lot more to learn than this book offers but this book seems like its catered to beginners who want to get there feet wet...really wet!

I would not suggest this book for my worst enemy. It is possibly the worst Flash book available. It is useless as a learning tool and as a reference book. A prime candidate for the recycle bin.

I thought this book would assume more knowledge of the user being that it says it's for web professionals. I thought it might get into database stuff and etc, but it didn't. I knew it would start very basic but was hoping it would delve deeper. It maintains anlevel that is rather basic. I would only recomend this book to someone who is new to flash.

A Cut-and-Paste Once-Over.......2007-07-02
I really wish I could recommend this book for anyone interested in the popular culture of the 1970s, but I can't. Hanson provides us with scores of photos of models from the era, but virtually no substance. What little text there is is grossly padded by having parallell columns in English, German, and French.
Hanson promises "in-depth" articles about five top models; instead we are presented three-paragraph puff pieces, at least two of which are in fact patently false.
I gave this book a three-star rating. I overrated it.
Misleading Cover Photo.......2006-12-13
Don't be mislead by the advertized cover photo. You won't find it in this book. There are a few poorly reproduced photos of Roberta Pedon, but not worth the purchase price of this book. The small amount of info on this model is inaccurate and almost seems ficticious. If your not buying the book for the cover model, the book covers a large variety of men's magazine with a very small percent of the Big Bust genre. I hope this helps.
A literature review like no other.......2006-05-01
The cover photo and the list of magazines that the author has been involved with should provide a good indication of what to expect in this fascinating book, in other words, not beautiful scantily clad female fashion models photographed by skillful photographers as appeared in Playboy and Penthouse (which are notably absent from this compilation), but the world of specialist - read unsophistated, tacky and bizarre - softcore porn as it was in the 1970s. Well, some photos are typical of Playboy and Penthouse, but the majority are ones they would not have considered. Of the 1,000 + illustrations most are of covers but there are plenty of internal ones also, including cartoons and graphics. Personally I find only a minority of them appealing or a turn-on but as an historical survey this is pretty good and several countries are represented.

The Nimzo-Indian is an extremely popular and reliable defence, upon which most world champions have relied at some point in their careers. Black controls the vital e4-square with his pieces, and retains total flexibility with his central pawns. By playing 4 f3, White challenges Black's idea head-on. Either Black grants White control of e4, or else he must commit his pawn to d5, whereupon White can begin concrete action in the centre. The result is sharp, forcing play of a type that is rare in the early stages of most Nimzo-Indians. 4 f3 is an excellent choice for ambitious players who are willing to prepare carefully, as it can be used to steamroller opponents who have not worked out an accurate response.
The 4 f3 Nimzo enjoyed a period of great popularity in the early 1990s, following a number of spectacular victories by the teenage Alexei Shirov. However, good responses were found and the line's popularity declined. A number of players quietly worked away at revitalizing 4 f3, and it is now once again a potent weapon. Following its period out of the limelight, it has now regained its surprise value, which will be greatly valued by club players wishing to spring 4 f3 on their opponents.

Some opening manuals are written in response to popular trends. Others - sometimes the most innovative - can create the trends. It is clear that Yuri Yakovich has penned one of the latter type here, with his enterprising coverage of the surprise line arising after 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 e6 3 Nc3 Bb4 4 f3.
White's intentions are deeply aggressive, aiming for a quick central build-up with e4. Yakovich is a top Russian trainer, and a Grandmaster, known as a world authority on this variation. He has had success even after strong opponents have come to expect it.
Much of the analysis in this book is original or challenges established theory and assessments. So even if the theoretical verdict of the line remains unclear, players of the black pieces will need to be familiar with the intricacies, or risk being steamrolled in the opening. A point reinforced by the 14 illustrative games at the end of the book, where in one Gheorghiu beats Fischer at the Havana Olympiad in 1966.
Shallow understanding of the f3 variations........2004-12-05
I was excited when I read about a new book on f3 variation, and I ordered as soon as it came avalible on amazon. I dont regret ordering it as I have been studying the f3 for some time now and there are really no other books on it. However its obvious, if you play this as much as I do that yuri's understanding of the whole variation, is only average. Moreover he didnt put much time into analysis for this book. He mainly looked at the database and copied from the opening encyclopedias. Now its true that as a professional he cant give away all his secrets, but really if thats your attitude than dont bother write a book.
Let me just give a few of the errors,I dont want to give them all away, but here are a few:
After d4 nf6 c4 e6 nc3 bb4 f3 c5 yuri writes: "In order to maintain the position in the center white must reply d5"
Actually thats false, a3 more than playble, in fact I think it is better than d5.
After d5 he gives blacks choices as:
b5, 0-0, BxN, and Nh5. Whoops, guess he forgot blacks best move, d6! with the plan of meeting e4 with b5. Note that he does not cover any transpositions into this variation.
Here is a reaccuring blurb from one of his summaries:
"The lack of practical examples does not allow us to make any clear-cut assessments regarding the value of 10.g3!?, although in the games in which this move has featured, Black was unable to solve his opening problems"

Non-Manipulative Selling is a great overall book that includes some theory and a lot of tactical selling advice. It offers an overall emphasis on understanding behavioral styles.
The goal of the book is to help the reader learn to sell with flexibility by adjusting to each prospect's style. The six-step selling process described by the authors is particularly useful. With its details on behavior styles, Non-Manipulative Selling will be beneficial for those involved in complex and transactional sales.
This book is very congruent with TrustBuild Program philosophy and principles.
Non-Manipulative Selling is a practical book, oriented toward the process of selling. The authors offer instruction on practice with every idea they present.
The emphasis on practicality is not surprising when you consider that the book originated in 1975 as a seminar workbook. The authors note in the Preface that since the original publication, many others have written, spoken, and taught about non-manipulative selling. They feel, however, that most of those are trotting out a non-manipulative philosophy as a surface over the traditional sales hard sell approach.
The book begins with five chapters that explore the skills a salesperson brings to his or her craft. With chapter titles like "Relationship Strategies" and "The Power of Listening, Observing, and Feedback," these chapters address the techniques required for non-manipulative selling.
The authors then present six chapters on the sales process itself. These chapters cover subjects ranging from meeting the prospect to assuring customer satisfaction.
The book concludes with four chapters on general sales skills, including chapters on "Selling by Style" and "Developing Self-Management Skills."
It is one thing to assert that we are committed to ethical, trustworthy, and non-manipulative selling. It is another to actually put the principles and techniques to work in the field. The risks seem obvious: What if this doesn't work? Don't I have to press for the sale? After all, I need it.
The strength of this book is that it gives both the background needed to understand non-manipulative selling and the practical advice needed to put it into practice. While this information will not eliminate all the stresses involved in moving to non-manipulative selling, it will remove a lot of the uncertainty about what is going on.
I highly recommend Non-Manipulative Selling to all those who work in complex and transactional sales and who wish to improve their practical abilities to sell effectively and ethically.
