Book Description

Was Princess Diana murdered? Or was she the victim of an innocent though tragic traffic Accident? If she was murdered, who did it? Who ordered the assassination and what were the motives behind it?

Based on information received from a veteran CIA contract agent one week prior to the crash in Paris - plus further evidence obtained from other highly placed sources, this investigative work presents an uncompromising inquiry into Diana's death.

The Authors are not just `conspiracy theorists.' They are investigative journalists with a proven track record, who dare to investigate issues side stepped by other journalists, and whose courageous work uncovered staggering evidence of a high-level conspiracy between British and U.S. Intelligence to assassinate Diana.

Endorsed by many highly placed intelligence & government sources, this book reveals the frightening truth: How British and U.S. Intelligence monitored Diana's every move;

How two secret letters written by Diana just before her death implicate the British Crown in "nefarious activities in Africa", specifically Angola;

How Diana threatened to expose the Crown's vested interests in Angola by pursuing her 'landmines campaign' in that country;

Why MI6 and the CIA resolved to kill her "on foreign soil";

How both Secret Services favored the 'traffic accident' as a deniable means of assassination; how this same method had been successful in previous 'deniable ops''; how the crash evidence was methodically suppressed, as was the info. on: the conspirators who planned, carried out and covered up this operation;

How chauffeur Henri Paul worked for MI6; how his blood sample -which underpins the 'drunk-driver accident' theory -was switched; and how all TV cameras at the crash scene were mysteriously switched off.

This thoroughly researched book reveals the shocking truth behind Diana's death. And in the process it exposes the most scandalous, closely guarded secret in the UK's history.

1 out of 5 stars The Prosecution Lost the Case.......2007-02-16

The book was written in the form of a trial and the reader is the jury. Well, if I was on that jury, I would have voted for the defense. And if I was the judge, I would have thrown the case out after the prosecution finished his case for lack of evidence. The title is perfect "Hidden Evidence" as the evidence was so hidden that I couldnt find it in the book. The author makes many hypothesis but does not have any REAL support for his hypothesis.

I believe that we have not heard the full and real story of the death of Diana and was hoping to find it here - but I was disappointed. Stay clear.

5 out of 5 stars Diana was murdered........2005-09-19

My beloved Princess Diana was most definitely murdered by the Establishment. This book gives hard facts to support this statement and points out inconsistencies within the investigation, both in France and England. Assasinations like this have been going on since the beginning of time, since John the Baptist. If you loved Princess Diana you must read this book. It will make you so sad to realize what was done to her.

1 out of 5 stars Tepid drivel.......2003-09-15

Oh, for God's sake! What utter drivel. Diana wasn't bright enough to implicate anyone more substantial than a poorly trained manicurist.

Here's a conspiracy question to think about -- if Diana was so committed to the anti-landmines issue why did she chose Dodi Fayed as a consort? Some of his relations are huge arm dealers. Hey -- maybe THEY knocked her off!

5 out of 5 stars Unbeliveably Chilling!! A must read book ~~.......2003-06-28

I couldn't put this book down. The facts that were found out about Princess Diana's death, I believe all of them. I always felt that something wasn't right about the "so called accident".After reading this book,I have no doubt that her own family { I won't mention any names},were involved in shall we say, getting the Princess out of the way. I knew that the Windors' disliked Princess Diana, but to go that far.This book gave me the chills learning that not only the British Establishment and the CIA, had something to do with her untimely death.And talk about a BOTCHED investigation!! To say the least, and now I know why.The people involved with her death and that of the others,{ofcourse Henri Paul signed his own death certificate unbeknowst to himself}.They will never be found. How sad.But there are some in the Royal House of Windsor that really know what happened.But I don't think this bothers them at all.The investigative reporters that worked so hard putting this book together for the public to decide what really happned.Truely conviced me that this was NOT an accident, that of a drunk driver and the so called Popparazzi.The mysterious Fiat Uno,the rescue team that worked on Princess Diana, in my eyes,let her die there at the crash site.And I believe they were in on this as well.I would reccomend this book to anyone that wants to really know the cold hard and truthful facts about her senseless,premetitaded death.From front to back, you won't be able to put this book down.

4 out of 5 stars Big Brother is watching us.......2003-01-22

It is not a book that will make people feel safe about the world around them but it does tell, with an incredible amount of research, what probably happened re the death of Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. So many questions unanswered by the enquiry after her death, so many facts swept under the carpet as well. There probably will be an epilogue to this book (needed as far as I am concerned) when the American Tapes of Diana's telephone conversation will come to light. Those who have listened to them (as reported in the Sunday Express of June 23, 2002) were amazed to hear, from Diana's own lips, that she was both pregnant and was going to marry Dodi Fayed. Can you imagine the establishment in Britain having to bow to a half British Egyptian child, brought up in the Muslim Faith, who could say in the future 'The King, my Brother'. I doubt it. The landmines campaign is also an eye opener (British/American military interests in danger). Murdered, of course she was. She was not the first, nor will she be the last. A word of caution to HRH Prince Michael of Albany. By standing for the truth, he, too, might find the dark forces in Britain (to quote the Queen) conspiring against him. Altogether, an excellent informative read that should raise a few eyebrows in high place.

      No matter how far back you go, the state of the game has always been remarkably similar to what it is today: greedy owners, economic imbalances among franchises, unequal markets, grumbling players. Using the multilayered life of 19th-century Hall-of-Famer and lawyer John Montgomery Ward as his way into the story, Bryan Di Salvatore roots around in the contemporary sources of the game's early years. For the record, Ward's career on the diamond spanned from 1878 to 1894, split between shortstop and the mound. As a pitcher, he sported an impressive 164-102 mark, won a staggering 47 games in 1879, and even hurled a perfecto; at short, he fielded his position well and hit with authority if not power. "Ward was the sort of player that other players appreciate as a teammate and curse as an opponent," Di Salvatore explains. "He beat you invisibly as often as he beat you visibly." He later managed, and like DiMaggio, he wooed and wed one of the leading actresses of the day.

      The key to his legacy, though, can be found in the last, marvelously understated line of his Cooperstown plaque: "Played important part in establishing modern organized baseball." "For a strange, brief period," Di Salvatore writes more definitively, "John Ward was the most important man of his profession." Educated and charismatic, he was one of the first players to fully understand that a boy's game was also a man's trade, and was determined to make America realize the same. In 1885, he helped form the first players union to fight, among other inequities, the reserve clause that virtually tied players to a club forever, and a salary cap limited to whatever the poorest team in the league could afford. Four years later, he led a full-scale player revolt that formed the Players League. Though the league didn't last long, Ward, never silencing himself, continued to play and manage, eventually serving as counsel to the Brooklyn Dodgers and president of the Boston Braves. "Baseball," he once wrote, "is not a Summer snap, but a business in which capital is invested. A player is not a sporting man. He is hired to do certain work, and do it as well as he possibly can." It's a contemporary notion from out of the shadows of the past. The triumph of A Clever Base-Ballist is just how alive and resonant that past is. --Jeff Silverman

      Book Description

      "Baseball is not a Summer snap, but a business....
      A player is not a sporting man.  He is hired to do certain work and do it as well as he possibly can."

      John Montgomery Ward, nineteenth-century America's most-talked-about (both reviled and applauded) baseball player, spoke these words shortly after the failure of the great player rebellion of 1890, a revolution Ward almost singlehandedly fomented.  That year, four out of every five National Leaguers, taking great economic risk, deserted professional baseball's establishment to create an "outlaw" rival organization: The Players' League. Team owners, the players felt, treated them like chattel: they "dished saltpeter in their sidemeat and gave them shameful financial
      beatings if they misbehaved," writes Bryan
      Di Salvatore in this fascinating, rigorous, and brisk biography.
      A Clever Base-Ballist is also a keenly observant narrative of late nineteenth-century America.  In it can be found the likes of Mark Twain, Hawaii's King Kalakuau, and Moses Fleetwood Walker, the major league's first black player.  It travels from the groaning boards of Delmonico's restaurant to the boisterous pages of the 1880s entertainment press to the Egyptian desert, where the target of one thrown baseball was the Sphinx's right eye.
      Handsome, erudite, and brilliantly talented, Ward made front-page headlines across the country when he married New York actress Helen Dauvray.  And when they weren't branding him a terrorist, owners trumpeted the college-educated Ward as the sport's premier role model.  An unblinking antidote to "good-old-days" syndrome, A Clever Base-Ballist is an accessible, compelling, and unconventional biography of an unconventional and, until now, obscure American.

      5 out of 5 stars Clever is Bryan Di Salvatore.......2007-03-27

      I love 19th Century Baseball and this book is 19th Century. Mr. Salvatore makes this book wildly enjoyable to any fan of baseball history. At times the book shows a little "subject jumping," but all in all this book is fantastic.

      5 out of 5 stars The First Union Leader in Major League Baseball, Nineteenth Century Style.......2006-08-14

      Between 1878 and 1894 John Ward Montgomery amazed major league baseball fans on the field and exasperated owners off of it. As a pitcher for Providence, he won 87 games in the two seasons of 1879 and 1880. He also pitched only the second perfect game in National League history. He later moved to shortstop and led the New York Giants to pennants in 1888-1889. His natural leadership skills ensured he had a future as team captain and manager.

      But Ward infuriated the owners by bucking their system of control over the players. The National League had established a "reserve clause" binding a player to his team for life by "reserving" his services for the next season even without a signed contract. While the contract and hence the player could be traded, a player could not unilaterally choose to play for another team. The manner in which owners erected this legal means of controlling players amounts to some of the most interesting sections of this book.

      This infuriated Ward, who was also a lawyer; he believed players should be allowed to ply their trade wherever someone was willing to pay them. Accordingly, he organized the Brotherhood of National League Players in 1885 as a fraternal order not unlike the Grange and other secret societies of the Gilded Age. In effect, this was the first union of professional baseball players. When Ward learned in 1889 that the owners had established a fixed scale of salaries, setting the upper limit at $2,500 for each season, he led a walkout and established the Player's League controlled by ballplayers. It was a good idea but it failed after only a year because the competition ensured a financial disaster for both leagues.

      Bryan Di Salvatore's fine book is largely the story of Ward's efforts to overcome the "plantation-style" rule of baseball owners. He was never able to do so, and he finally retired at age 34 after a 17 year career to lead a lucrative law practice. This is very much a "life and times" biography and one will learn much about the milieu of the latter nineteenth century as well as about Ward and his baseball career. Broadening the story helps significantly, as it places in context the larger owner/labor dynamics that have shaped Major League Baseball to the present.

      5 out of 5 stars More than just a biography for baseball history buffs.......2001-09-12

      A Clever Base-Ballist: The Life And Times Of John Montgomery Ward is the riveting tale of John Montgomery Ward's life and historical baseball career, from his expulsion from Penn State University for stealing chickens, to pitching baseball's second perfect game in 1880, to becoming a member of the New York Giants. More than just a biography for baseball history buffs, A Clever Base-Ballist also paints a bright, engaging picture of American life at the turn of the century. For baseball enthusiasts and millennium enthusiasts alike, A Clever Base-Ballist does not disappoint!

      4 out of 5 stars Review of the book, not the subject matter.......2001-02-23

      Although it's not easy to criticize a book which the author says took four years of his life, and I believe him, shoppers should know that at times this book would be better titled "The Late 19th Century Including a Few Vignettes From the Life of John Montgomery Ward." Yes, this book is symptomatic of the modern trend to make them at least 25% longer than they need to be. The author thinks nothing of spending page after page describing oddities of Ward's hometown which really tells us nothing more about him than the single line "he grew up in the middle class of a small town in Pennsylvania" would have. The entire first chapter is devoted exclusively to speculations on various pictures of Ward without even putting the pictures next to them. There is at least one chapter which fails to mention Ward at all. The narrative wanders off the path often, even in the early going when the reader's attention is most at risk, and stays off for long periods of time. I would have much preferred it if this book had been one of those tall affairs with a great, wide margins and little info boxes along the side. Then one could read or not read the boxes at one's option. Or, it could have been a hypertext document and then if one wanted to read more on some of these topics, click and read more, but no reader should be forced to wade through some of this material, especially as some important details are buried in the middle of it, risking the skimming reader missing it. I suppose the fault is with the editor, but it's difficult to say as words like "faro" and "turnverein" are included without explanation -- maybe originally that wasn't the case. Please note that there are 32 pages of footnotes as well. On the other hand, entirely at the author's door are some very big questions left completely unfielded. Why is there no speculation, for example, about why Ward never participated in that most common of human activities, creating children? Also, in this connection, I am surprised that the possibility that he was tricked into his first marriage by a possible false pregnancy is never considered. His wife was after all an actress and must have been familiar with the trick from the Dramatic tradition. Another important issue: who was Ward actually? What were his politics? He seems a very unlikely revolutionary. Rather, like Aristophanes and W.S. Gilbert, he seems to criticize the system from the right, not because he fails to believe in it, but because he finds those in charge to be no-talent hacks and, significantly, because he can. His "revolution" seems to have been accomplished more by cleverness and opportunism than by principle and reality so naturally it was only a matter of time before the cards came crashing down. A little more of the author's or others' judgement on this would have been welcome, or even just a more inside look at how Ward went about his recruiting and alliance building, but all we get are two sentences. Other than these issues, I did enjoy the book quite a lot and although I cannot recommend it as highly as some others, I feel no doubt that on a research basis at least no stone has been left unturned. Certainly its topic is both rare and enjoyable.

      4 out of 5 stars Best baseball history since summer of '49.......1999-08-30

      Bryan Di Salvatore has captured the early history of baseball with his fascinating biography of baseball's early days. His profile of John Montgomery Ward, a pitcher and later an infielder, provides a detailed look at the evolution of baseball in its formative years. This was a time of numerous rules changes from underhand pitching, walks counting as hits, absence of a fixed pitching rubber, changing rules on how many balls it took to walk. The author meticulously but always in interesting prose tells us about the many battles between owners and players, the reserve clause, poor playing conditions. Ball players were lazy, overpaid, carousing drinkers(sound familiar) said the owners. Owners were greedy, interested in squeezing players for every nickel(sound familiar) said the players. Clearly the era evoked has many parallels to today except the average player salaries were clearly more in line with real wages. The average ball player made 3-5X the salary of the average working man. Generally the players were more accessible to the public although in one scene John Ward complains about the annoying fan groupies. For the baseball fan this book will clearly be educational and is well worth reading. Very few books describe the pre-1900 era and this book is a rare and thorough glimpse on the emerging popularity of baseball.

      This book has everything you could ever want in a book about Bollywood. The pictures are amazing, the text, written by the likes of Gulzar and Shyam Benegal is brilliant, and the physical quality of the book is so great you'd be proud to show it off. It is a must have for anyone remotely interested in Indian Cinema.

      The book is pleasant surprise after seeing the fluff in the new release 'Bollywood Dreams'. Am relieved I chose this one.

      4 out of 5 stars Must have!.......2002-12-26

      I was thrilled to know that a book was out on the market about Bollywood. Some of the other books were quite boring but this one will definitely stay on my coffee table.

      Even though I am glad I bought the book I was a bit dissappointed to find actors, actresses and movies not mentioned but I guess if they really wanted to talk about 100 years, the book would probably be about 1000+ pages. This book is about 350pgs but I still think its worth having just for the quality.

          3 out of 5 stars do not forget it is a miniature .......2007-01-09

          nice details and design, good content for people who enjoy pin-up / vintage ( I'm not an expert on those topics so please do not go by my review if you are looking for rare vintage stuff etc ), I bought this item to be able to complete a $100 shopping amount to classify for free shipping , so I quickly look at the book description, when I got the package I realized I bought a miniature , it is the smallest book on my house ..

          5 out of 5 stars Should be clearly labeled as a gag gift.......2006-07-14

          I bought it as a gag gift, so I got what I ordered. I am married to "Bad Girl" Olga Khanukova, the young lady who modeled for the cover of Pulp Graffiti Volume I. I bought this book as a gag gift for her, but I guess the joke is on me. My magnifying glass is larger than this book. I still plan to give it to Olga, and I still think she will get a kick out of it. Maybe I'll buy a very small coffee table to set it on and we can laugh even harder.

          I wish the book were larger, then it would have real value. Anyone else will probably feel cheated if they buy this book for its literary value. It would be nice if it were more clearly labeled by an on line bookseller, but I don't see that as a reason to give the author a bad review.

          3 out of 5 stars the pictures are there.......2006-06-17

          the quality of the art work is wonderful but this by dimensions is the smallest book i have ever owned it 3 inches by 3 inches. if you are a collector and want something unique then get this book it even as an erotic spiked heel attaches as a book mark. but its diffucult to see the pictures .. i would give this book 5 stars had it come out in a reasonable size. but the pictures are of nice quality and the women are very sexy

          1 out of 5 stars Tiny Surprises.......2006-03-22

          If you read the fine print...you will find that this tiny little book is way overpriced unless it sells for a dollar. That's what the sticker price of the one sent to me said the purchase price was. But silly me, didn't read the small print, and paid way too much for it. A "cute" little book, but a mere token of the value expressed by the seller. Will probably relist it soon on ebay.

          3 out of 5 stars Nice but not spectacular.......2005-12-23

          This nice little book fits in the palm of your hand. It's interesting, but more of a novelty item than anything else.

            Book Description

            Financial advisers, trustees, and plan sponsors?in fact, anyone who provides investment advice?may be held to a fiduciary standard of care for the financial well being of their clients, beneficiaries, or employees. Accountants, attorneys, and wealth managers all need to know about these responsibilities. But what, exactly, is meant by the term ?fiduciary standard?? What must advisers do to be sure their procedures meet legal and ethical standards? This book identifies the 27 Prudent Practices, organized under Five Steps, that were developed by the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies?measures that professionals can take to demonstrate that they accept, understand, and are fulfilling the role of a fiduciary.

            5 out of 5 stars A Must Read Book For Advisors and Investors.......2006-03-24

            This is a must read book for fiduciaries and investors everywhere. Tim Hatton, President of Hatton Consulting, a registered investment advisor in Phoenix, does an excellent job of explaining why there is a standard of conduct for fiduciaries, what that standard is, and how to incorporate this fiduciary standard into our everyday business models. He begins by reviewing investors' behavior during the late 1990's, and uses this example to show what happened when investors abrogated sound investment principles in favor of wild speculation in search of above market returns in the stock market. He makes a case that investment return is far more dependent on investor behavior than fund performance. His solution is to make sure that investors are in alignment with sound investment principles, and to manage the investment process by not straying from these principles during the twists and turns of the markets. This is the essence of what a fiduciary does.

            A fiduciary puts his clients' interests first. That should be standard operating procedure for each of us and is the clearly stated goal of the AICPA. That is why they have endorsed Tim Hatton's new book "The New Fiduciary Standard."

            There are more than 5 million fiduciaries in the U.S. today. These may include investment advisers, trustees, accountants, attorneys, and consultants. It is possible that you might be considered to be a fiduciary and you don't even know it!

            The first part of the book is an excellent discussion of the history of modern portfolio theory. This section is a good read and will appeal to those who have an interest in investments. I particularly enjoyed his discussion of the Fama-French 3-Factor Model. Mr. Hatton concludes this section by saying that "the best way ...is to use the investment tools that have been developed on the basis of the principles of Modern Portfolio Theory." These tools represent a sound investment strategy.

            The second part of the book is a discussion of the 5 steps and 27 practices of the fiduciary standard and how he incorporates these into his practice. He systematically goes through each step and each practice to show what his firm does to implement each of these steps of the fiduciary process. This part of the book is very much about "process" and the proper execution of this appropriate process. Hatton walks us through the steps of analyzing the investor's current position, achieving diversification through asset allocation, formalizing an investment policy that is appropriate for the investor, how to implement this policy, and how to monitor the portfolio and supervise money managers in order to better accomplish the investor's investment objectives. I was able to apply his discussions about "Best Execution Policy" and "Monitoring the Portfolio" to better explain what our firm does. These are responsibilities that we should take seriously.

            There can be no question that we can benefit from seeing how we measure-up in our roles as fiduciaries. What a great way to get better at what we do. Tim Hatton and the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies not only provides a standard, but also tries to make it real for us, so that we can apply it in our everyday work lives. I would challenge each of you advisors to improve your process. This book will help you do it. Investors should now know what to look for when hiring an advisor. Does your advisor measure up? Does he put your interests first? Or are there conflicts of interest?

            4 out of 5 stars Implementation of the Prudent Investment Practices.......2006-02-21

            The author does a good job of explaining the Prudent Investment Practices and how these are incorporated into his investment advisory process. This will be a good book for investment consultants who are looking to define a disciplined investment process for their practice. This is a clearly defined picture of the future of high quality investment advice.
