casual observations take on greater importance.......1998-06-10
in an affable style, financial wizard-philanthropist Dreyfus' seemingly casual biography takes on a larger perspective, partly because of who he is,(of course), but mostly from his unselfish desire to share an important discovery. THE LION OF WALL STREET and the more recent version of A REMARKABLE MEDICINE HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED are essensially the same book, the paperback REMARKABLE an update of the hardcover LION

A Humorous and Informative Book.......2003-08-10
This is a fantastic book! It is full of helpful information for the dedicated deer hunter, and it gives a true insight to deer hunting in south Georgia. Being a deer hunter myself for 45 years, this book made me relive many of my own hunting experiences. The author did not add or take away anything from the true-to-life hunting stories, making it some what humorous and very exciting. The section on hunting tips made me a beliver that the author knows his stuff and I can't wait to try some of the tips this deer season.

Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies
ASIN: 1557835519 |
Book Description
For decades, Screen World has been the film professional's, as well as the film buff's, favorite and indispensable annual screen resource, full of all the necessary statistics and facts. Now Screen World editor Barry Monush has compiled another comprehensive work for every film lover's library. In the first of two volumes, this book chronicles the careers of every significant film actor, from the earliest silent screen stars - Chaplin, Pickford, Fairbanks - to the mid-1960s, when the old studio and star systems came crashing down. Each listing includes: a brief biography, photos from the famed Screen World archives, with many rare shots; vital statistics; a comprehensive filmography; and an informed, entertaining assessment of each actor's contributions - good or bad! In addition to every major player, Monush includes the legions of unjustly neglected troupers of yesteryear. The result is a rarity: an invaluable reference tool that's as much fun to read as a scandal sheet. It pulsates with all the scandal, glamour, oddity and glory that was the lifeblood of its subjects. Contains over 1,000 photos!

Disappointing.......2005-03-10
At first, I was very pleased with this directory, and I gave it a glowing review with 4 stars. I had deducted a star because of the bad editing, i.e. lots of typos and factual errors. There seems to be not one page where there aren't lots of typos, and the factual errors reflect a biogrsapher who seems to be just faking it. For example, Nina Foch's entry states that she played the secretary to a "suicidal businessman" in Executive Suite. This is incorrect - the businessman died of a heart attack, the daughter, played by Barbara Stanwyck, was suicidal. And this popped up on the first browse through the book.
Now, I must deduct still another star. I had compared this book favorably to the David Thomson "Biographical Dictionary," because Thomson's is neither biographical nor a dictionary, filled with the unauthoritative, opinions of a phony movie critic, and a mean spirited one at that. Well, alas, upon further reading, I found Monush's work to be equally mean spirited. For example, Mounsh gratuitously mentions a particular actor's homosexuality - something which had absolutely no bearing on his career or work. Of another actor's homosexuality which was was notorious and indeed affected his career, Monush makes no mention. Why Monush chooses to stigmatize one actor and then cover up for another I can only explain as personal favor.
Equally mystifying is are the omissions. Why does Monush include obscure character actors but exclude well-known feature players? For example, why does he exclude Erik Rhodes, who gained immortality in the Astair-Rogers classics Top Hat and Gay Divorcee ("Your wife is safe with Tonetti, he prefers spaghetti.")
Why does Monush exclude Bruce Bennett? Bennett wasn't just a player - he was a star - a minor star, but a star, one of those Olympic Athletes who, as Herman Brix, played Tarzan (some say superior to Weismuller), then changed his name and eventually became a headliner, co-starring with the likes of Crawford and Bogart. Couldn't Monush find a photo?
This directory claims to be encyclopedic, but it definitely is not. It has bad editing, poor fact-checking and unexplained omissions. Still, it is the only directory I know of, extant, which contains photos with the entries, and it does attempt to flesh out the entries. It is superior to the pretentious Thomson and perhaps less dry of a read than the essential and comprehesive (fewer omissions) "Filmgoer's Encyclopedia" by Ephraim Katz. This is a useful reference, but let us hope a better one comes along. So far, if you can dispense with the photos, the Katz is the best.
Best of All!.......2003-12-17
Barry Monush's "Encyclopedia of Hollywood Film Actors" is the best volume of its type. Other guides to performers tend either to be mean spirited or incomplete. This book is witty, informative and comprehensive. Each entry has some unusual or fascinating fact. This book has more complete credits information than most reference works, but this one is also fun to read. All the stars who became famous before 1965, including many of today's great stars, are here. Actors who came to prominence 1965->present will be covered in Vol. 2. The rare "headshot" photos alone are worth the price of purchase. If you know anyone who enjoys movies, they'll love this amazing book!
Book Description
It's surely a sign of the (high) times that marijuana is becoming increasingly visible and increasingly respectable, easily surviving every effort by the federal government and the bluenoses to suppress it. As well, ganja fans have become more discriminating, no longer willing to settle for the flavorless street bud or the insecticide-soaked leaf. Catering to this new sophistication, The Good Bud Guide offers the reader the most relevant details of the heavenly bud in a concise, easy-to-use format. Designed like a guide to fine wines, this handy book features a wide range of strains, each accompanied by an educated evaluation of its aroma, taste, and effect; high-quality glossy images; and precise growing information to help discerning enthusiasts identify the best-bred bud and perhaps even grow their own. Chapters on grow-room tips, humidity, cuttings, hash-making, and basic and high-tech paraphernalia round out the experience, making this the most comprehensive strain guide every produced.

Snore fest........2006-04-24
I was hoping for a great new coffee table book, but "Cannabible" this is NOT. Apparently Albie has a limited vocabulary. His reports are seriously boring and hard to read or follow. He supposedly spent some time in "The Dam" and thinks he's still in Europe with his metric measuring of plant heights etc. He supposedly, too, lives in San Francisco. Then why the metric measurements? There may be some or most of the blame placed at the feet of the editor. If you can possibly view this book prior to purchase, do it. Then decide if you want to waste your money. Then go buy the Cannabibles or Big Book of Buds series instead.
I have to give some credit for the photography...excellent! But I swear the close-ups and bud shots don't match the actual variety, and I think they used the same bud for close-ups multiple times. Even though the pictures are pretty, the text stinks.
At any rate....BORING.

Book Description
Use Decision Dice for guidance in solving any problemask specific questions and gain wisdom and insight into your situation. This fun, easy-to-use divination kit includes:
3 multi-colored dice
A casting board to give dimension to your readings
A 336-page book, offering readings for every possible dice combination
The use of dice for divination evolved from sortilege, the casting of lots. The Greeks and Romans used dice to get advice on dealing with problems and even in selecting government officials. And fortune tellers have been casting dice to help with their predictions for over 4,000 years. Today dice come in all shapes and sizes, with some having as many as 20 faces, although most have 6 faces like those in this kit.
The Decision Dice kit contains 3 dice, a casting board, and a book of readings. Based on the traditional meanings attributed to the dice through the centuries, the book offers practical easy-to-understand guidance for solving problems, asking specific questions, or simply gaining further insight into any situation. For instance, ask the dice whether you should go back to school. Casting a 2 on the black die and a 3 on each of the other two dice indicates that "You've dreamed of this a very long time and now is the time for all dreams to come true."
Each of the three dice represents a particular area of questioning: the black die symbolizes growth and is for questions relating to any problems, obstacles or difficulties; the brown die is for opportunity and relates to emotional questions regarding relationships and social connections; and the cream die represents guidance and is used for all questions relating to finances, career, and material possessions. The casting is done on the special casting board provided with the kit. Color-coding allows the system to be totally comprehensive (each die represents a different area of questioning) with 216 readings for general queries and 216 readings for specific questions.
All dice permutations are explained fully and simply in the accompanying book.

DECISION DICE - Very compact and very accurate...........2005-10-15
I found the DECISION DICE to be very right on with my questions and concerns. This is one of the easiest and fastest divination methods out there. There are multiple ways to get answers including a simple YES or NO. I would highly reccomend this to anyone that would be interested in trying something different and less complicating. The book, dice and board all come in a cute compact box that would make a great gift. This is also a great tool for anyone seeking answers from within or to use in conjunction with other methods of divination.
A New Take On An Ancient Form Of Divination.......2004-09-04
Dice have been used for thousands of years for two reasons: games and divination. A form of divination known as sortilege, dice made out of stone, bone, ivory, or wood have been used for casting lots, gaining insights, and foretelling the future.
Although familiar with other forms of divination, I had not yet used dice or any form of sortilege. Therefore, it was with great curiosity and interest that I examined Decision Dice - Your Every Question Answered by Richard Craze. This unique kit comes in a sturdy, glossy square box that is split diagonally, giving it a flip-top opening. Inside the box is a small, but thick, 336-page book, a 9-piece casting board, and 3 wooden dice. The casting board is really a puzzle that forms a wheel/pie divided into 12 sections, and the dice are color coded: black, cream, and brown.
Given the various ways dice can be used, I thought this system may be confusing to use. However, after reading the brief explanations of how to use the Decision Dice system, I found it pretty straightforward. There are three ways you can use the dice for answering questions:
Yes/No Questions
This method answers yes and no questions, with qualifications. You roll the dice, add up the total, and read the explanation. For example, if you roll a 4, it means Yes. But it will only bring disappointments and disasters. Roll a 5, and it means No. But this is a good thing. There are 18 possibilities using this method.
General Questions
Sometimes, we have a general question in mind when using divination. "Will I meet someone soon?" or "What will happen with my job?" are such questions. With this method, each of the color-coded dice mean something specific, as does the numbers on the dice. After quieting yourself, ask the question and roll the dice. This section is divided into dice number totals, with subdivision being the actual dice combination. For example, you may roll a 10 which means Success. However, you need to find your exact combination, which is shown graphically in the book. For example, if you threw:
Black die: 5
Cream die: 1
Brown die: 4
you'd look for that particular configuration under number 10 Success. Likewise, if you were to roll:
Black die: 6
Cream die: 2
Brown die: 2
Each reading has a page long description, so even readings falling under the same general heading (like Success) will be somewhat different.
Specific Questions
Each colored die has a particular meaning. With this method, you meditate on your question, and choose which color die address the spirit of your question the best. For example, if you were to inquire about health, you'd use the Brown die. To inquire about career or finances, you'd toss the Cream die. For difficulties, life lessons, or the law, you'd toss the Black die. After choosing your die, you then cast it upon the board which is like a pie or spoked wheel divided into 12 "slices". The readings in this section are based upon the number on the die, and which numbered section on the board the die fell upon.
So, if I were to ask a question about education, I would choose the Cream die, and toss it on the board. Let's say I rolled a 3, and the die landed on segment ("pie slice") 6. Segment 6 deals with Discipline, so I would look under this section for Cream dice numbered 3. The reading for that combination is" I don't imagine for a moment that you realize the seriousness of this situation. You need to exercise some discipline or things will get even worse.
Does It Work?
With any form of divination, the important question that needs answered is Does it work?. There are two things I look for when evaluating a divination tool:
*Is it user friendly?
*Is it accurate?
It could be argued that the accuracy of any divination tool is based upon the clear-seeing and openness of the reader.
One of my regular clients contacted me recently for a reading. I usually use cards, but asked her if she'd like to give Decision Dice a test run for her reading. If she didn't like the reading for any reason, I'd do my regular card reading for her.
She agreed, and I performed the reading. For whatever reason, perhaps the unfamiliarity, she said she preferred my card reading. Interestingly, the cards confirmed the same messages given in the Decision Dice reading! Based on this test-run, as well as having used it a few times for myself, I'd have to say the Decision Dice method is both quick and accurate. You are not required to memorize anything, and readings are spelled out clearly for any eventuality.
If you're looking for a new divination tool, or would like a method that is less intimidating and complex than ones like traditional Runes, Tarot, or the I Ching, I highly recommend Decision Dice by Richard Craze.

No Set Up Instruction.......2007-09-18
This book tells how to do a lot with Outlook, but doesn't give the reader a clue how to set it up in the first place. Given the technical terms used by ISPs, it would have been useful to have some definitions and examples of setup. I can't use the book until I somehow figure that out.
Outlook 2003 for Dummies.......2007-07-17
Has a lot of functionality that is easily understood by reading over the book. Good tips.
The Ultimate "How To".......2007-05-07
For those of us not saddled with an office environment, corporate networks, and the need to broadcast trivia to a hundred people, OUTLOOK is a boon. Realizing the capabilities of the tool come at the price of being able to USE it! And, unhappily, as with all sequential pursuits, one needs guidance if the "How To" is to be mastered. AS with all the "Dummies" offerings, countless hours are saved by being able to walk through a guided "How To" on the way to mastering the tool.
Long live the authors of the Outlook 2003 for Dummies presentation! May their tribe increase.
