In The Rediscovered Benjamin Graham, Janet Lowe collects plenty of value. Graham was one of the greatest seers and bargain hunters in Wall Street history. Lowe, a veteran financial journalist and editor, showcases a wide range of Graham's writings, lectures, speeches, and interviews from the 1930s to the 1970s. A money manager, author, and adjunct professor at Columbia University, Graham became a millionaire by buying beaten-up stocks following the 1929 crash. Warren Buffett was an early enthusiast of Graham, whose style of investing and advice remain important nearly 25 years after his death. Graham preached the need to buy companies at a major discount to the rest of the market, based on factors such as book value, dividend yields, and price-to-earnings ratio. "Graham still has one of the largest and most loyal followings of any investment philosopher of this century," Lowe writes in the preface. "The more readers study Graham's value investing principles, the more loyal they are likely to become."
The book includes "Renaissance of Value," an address by Graham from 1974 that foreshadowed the bull market of the next decade; "Is American Business Worth More Dead than Alive?", Graham's three-part series in Forbes in 1932 that correctly heralded the deals on Wall Street at the time; and "Interviews with Benjamin Graham," three magazine articles about his musings in retirement after 60 years of investing. Graham, known for his books Security Analysis and The Intelligent Investor, could be amazingly prescient. But he also made lots of mistakes, leading him to conclude that no one could be precise about the direction of the stock market. "The only thing that we can be pretty sure of, perhaps, is that we are acting reasonably and intelligently," he said in a lecture 50 years ago. "And if we are wrong, as we are likely to be, at least we have been intelligently wrong and not unintelligently wrong." Like most books by and about Graham, this belongs on the shelf of any value investor. --Dan Ring
Book Description
"The sillier the market's behavior, the greater the opportunity for the business-like investor. Follow Graham and you will profit from folly rather than participate in it."-Warren E. Buffett.
"[Graham] is the genius who literally created the framework for investment analysis that leads to successful investing. Like that other genius Edison, Graham created light where there was none." -Bill Ruane, Sequoia Fund.
"It's never the wrong time to invoke the name of Benjamin Graham, value investor par excellence." -Money
"The search for intelligent investing should begin with the remarkable Benjamin Graham's timeless teachings. Read Lowe's book and you'll learn to seek what the original master sought as she helps Graham reclaim his rightful place as the most important and extraordinary investment writer of any generation."-Kenneth Lee, author of Trouncing the Dow.
Known as the "father of value investing," Benjamin Graham was-and is-one of America's most lauded financial thinkers. Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, a former student of Graham, extols him to this day. Brilliant, successful, and ethical, he revolutionized investment philosophy by introducing the concepts of security analysis, fundamental analysis, and value investing-theories that have become timeless essentials of the field. Now, Janet Lowe, author of Benjamin Graham on Value Investing and Warren Buffett Speaks, reintroduces the foundations of Graham's eminence-including his ever-relevant market observations and his assessment of long-term economic problems-by presenting a unique compilation of his writings that contains rare and/or previously unpublished articles, lectures, and interviews.
Almost twenty-five years after his death, Benjamin Graham continues to have one of the largest and most loyal followings of any investment philosopher of this century. A prolific and popular writer whose trademark was blending original ideas with wit and intelligence, he has guided and inspired Wall Street professionals with his thoughtful ruminations and piercing insights on a host of investment and economic topics. Though bits and pieces of this material are widely quoted even today, the full writings have not always been easy to find-until now.
The result of in-depth research, The Rediscovered Benjamin Graham brings together the very best the investment legend had to offer, including such incisive works as:
* "Inflated Treasuries and Deflated Stocks: Are Corporations Milking Their Owners?"
* "The Ethics of American Capitalism".
* "Proposals for an International Commodity-Reserve Currency".
* "The New Speculation in Common Stocks".
* "Is American Business Worth More Dead Than Alive?".
* "The Simplest Way to Select Bargain Stocks".
A groundbreaking volume that fills an important niche in investment literature, The Rediscovered Benjamin Graham is destined to become as timeless a classic as its distinguished subject.

Previously unpulished Benjamin Graham.......2007-04-15
Janet Lowe has done an outstanding job collating and introducing each section of this book of previously unpublished articles, lectures, and interviews from the father of value investing. I believe anyone reading this book will get a huge value out of it. This book is a great addition to Mr. Graham's books. It is also a great book to read for those new to Graham's teachings of buying good stocks when their prices are below intrinsic value. Graham's methods of finding good stocks at fair prices by examining their equity to asset ratios, book value, and P/E multiples brought the Graham-Newman partnership over a 20% annual return on equities for 20 years. Followed by his pupil Warren Buffet using and refining his techniques to return over 20% a year for 40 years and eventually lead Warren Buffett to be worth $40 billion thanks to using his value investing for the holding company Berkshire-Hathaway. I sit up and listen to anything these two great men have to say. I also recommend reading Graham's Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis, and "The essays of Warren Buffett" by Cunningham.
Margin of safety.......2001-12-19
This book give a concrete two factor formula for buying below market value investments without needing the more extensive balance sheet analysis as used in the "Intelligent Investor" or "Security Analysis".
Useful supplement to previously issued material.......1999-11-27
I've profited handsomely in a real-time portfolio over less than 6 months from ideas accumulated from my reading of this nice collection of articles. Before picking up this text, I expected it would contain mainly writings from Graham's earliest years --writings destined to be melded into the first edition of "Security Analysis." There are a couple of such pieces, but I was most taken with the pieces written towards the end of his life. Some of these are interviews. Graham generated financial ideas for the individual investor until the very end of his life, and this book is currently the only published repository for these. I'm not sure if someone just coming to Benjamin Graham will derive the greatest benefit from this book, but anyone who has a passiing familiarity with "Security Analysis", "The Intelligent Investor" and "The Interpretation of Financial Statements" will derive great pleasure and a goodly number of valuable insights from this collection.
Relevant and valuable.......1999-11-25
Janet Lowe's book delivers. Want to know what a genius of finance thinks about investing, the stock market and economics? Buy this book. Each time I read it, I discover a new insight which previously eluded me. Truly a great book and I recommend it to all investors of any level of investment sophistication.
buy this book!!.......1999-05-20
For anyone interested in getting to the heart of Benj. Graham and value investing, this is a great source. I only wish it would have been published a few years earlier; I would have saved countless hours searching for the same documents in my college library. Now, if Janet Lowe would only do a similar work with Graham's prized pupil, Warren Buffett as the subject...

One cool kitty-cat.......2007-09-25
I always fancied Hello Kitty, and my 2-year-old daughter loves cats. So I knew she'd be a big fan of the colorful, whimsical images in this hardcover book. (She also has a habit of tearing colorful pages out of books, but so far I've been able to keep this one intact!) This is really more of a "big girl's" book because of the silly haikus that correspond with the images, but it sure is fun to flip through. Le chat en France? Mais oui!
Not bad....................2007-01-09
Charming and very 'fluffy', its what you would expect ! Aimed more for the younger Kitty fan, its basically nothing more than a selection of cute kitty photos, but good fun.

vivid photos of your favorite feline sporting cute outfits.......2006-05-05
This is too cute and too "purrfect" to use. I'll have to order another box to send cause I want to keep mine in mint condition! This is a superior product at a reasonable price. Hello Kitty is shown in varied settings: Paris, the tropics, swimming pool, pumpkin patch, flying an airplane, etc. Harry Abrams is the publisher and they make a lot of quality products. I am very critical and do not recommend things lightly. Highly recommended!!!

Useful, beautiful and totally worth it!.......2006-07-30
This engagement calendar has everything you need (except for the stickers...). It has enough space to write whatever you have planned each day. Each page is made of a thick glossy paper and each page contains a photograph of kitty in a different place in the world, doing something different and even dressed differently! It's very good to carry everywhere. It's got space to write phone numbers and notes. I totally recommend it =)

imaginative and practical.......2006-01-25
This planner is perfect for people who have one or two things a day to keep track of, like a job interview, or a meeting with friends. It's a nice calendar too, so you can sort things weekly and keep track of what's ahead of you. The still photographs of plush hello kitty dolls are colorful and whimsical, reminsicent of Dare Wright's The Lonely Doll. They almost have a mind of their own, as though Hello Kitty were really alive and about town. This product is really well suited to people with a short agenda as it doesn't hold much per day, but is flashy enough to keep one's attention unlike so many others. Another great feature is that is covers 15 months, so it is perfect for students or anyone who could use more kitty! I had this same planner with hello kitty a few years back, but it was 12 months only and I had to wait until school was half-way through. Overall a fun and useful product, great for a collecter or anyone who enjoys a bit of fun in their everday event management.

Laugh and learn more about the Bible!

"Ulysses S. Grant was a perceptive and surprisingly modern manager," writes Al Kaltman. "A pragmatist who learned from his own and others' successes and failures, he brought new dimensions to strategic planning. He was adept at seizing and exploiting opportunities as they presented themselves, and he boldly shattered paradigms long before the term paradigm had made its way into the management jargon."
Kaltman uses Grant's military career, beginning with his enrollment at West Point through his early successes in the Civil War to his eventual command of the entire Union Army, to illustrate 250 basic principles of business success, from "Bureaucrats do the dumbest things" to "You can't stop the clock." In an afterword, Kaltman considers how President Grant failed to live up to the principles of teamwork and planning that led General Grant to victory, with a resultant career as chief executive whose legacy has been less than stellar.
Book Description
Long before leadership became identified as the catalyst for corporate success, the Civil War's winning general was showing the world how dynamic leadership is the crucial determinant of victory or defeat.
Ulysses S. Grant never sought fame of glory, nor did he try to tie his performance to personal reward. Instead, he concentrated on contribution and service. He looked upon being given increased responsibility not as increasing his power, but as increasing his ability to get the job done. "The great thing about Grant...is his perfect correctness and persistency of purpose." (Abraham Lincoln)
In this masterful retelling of Grant's story, Al Kaltman draws on Grant's writings and life experiences to present a series of practical lessons on how to get superior performance from the troops.
Going beyond mere "how-to's", Cigars, Whiskey & Winning deals with character traits, core beliefs, and fundamental values to reveal the secrets to becoming a winning leader that are as much about "who to be" as "what to do". And there isn't a chart, table, or checklist in sight-just a handy index of lessons for ready inspiration on demand.

Good leadershipship principles by U.S. Grant........2007-09-22
Grant may have been a poor President, but he was a great General. This book expounds the leadership principles of his war years. Grant was not only decisive, but he could also admit to mistakes. His treatment of his fellow officers shows he was a born leader. In three years, he rose from being a store clerk to a four star general. He did this using his courage, common sense, and good decision making. Lincoln may have saved the Union through his political leadership, but U.S. Grant saved it militarily with his good leadership.
This is a easy to read book. The book is in excess of three hundred pages, but most of the pages are not full. Some two hundred and fifty principles are detailed in the leadership of U.S. Grant. Too bad Grant did not use some of these principles in his Presidency.
Home run.......2007-07-30
Kaltman has done the research for you and put it all in a great lesson by lesson format. Any leader can refer to this book for day to day operations.
Every Manager Should Read This........2007-04-10
Very good read for anyone in management.
Uses the Civil War memoires of U.S. Grant to illustrate management skills and practices.
Very interesting. Excellent gift for men.
True to Grant's Character and Management Theory.......2007-03-15
Well researched book that explored both Grant's personality and effective leadership. I found it a nice change of pace from most management texts. Done in small bites, it would be great for use in class or discussion group. I felt it started rather simplicistically, but improved quickly. I especially appreciated the chapter at the end that explored why such a successful General was considered far less effective as a President. Good investment for any management bookshelf.
Well written book, with good advice........2006-03-09
I found it both intertaining to read, and thought provoking. It is full of logical advice, and real-world examples.
