    Book Description

Drawing upon a wealth of documentation, Gwynne Lewis's story of one of the most dynamic entrepreneurs in modern French history examines Pierre-Francois Tubeuf's contribution to the development of industry in France. Professor Lewis explores the relationship between seigneurial, proto-industrial, and modern forms of capitalism in the Cevennes region of south-eastern France in the eighteenth century, and demonstrates the international scope of proto-industrialization. A subtle, scholarly study, it unravels the complex problems associated with the impact of the French Revolution on the processes of modern French capitalism, and traces the responses of a wide variety of individuals, including Tubeuf and his greatest rival, the Marechal de Castries. He examines the epic struggle of these two powerful men for control of the rich coal-mines of the region, and their legacy to succeeding generations.

      The Great Quarterback Switch

My book is called The Great Quarterback Switch by Matt Christopher. The book is about two twin brothers named Tom and Michael that love football. But one day a tragic accident happens. Michael walked out in the street and was hit by a car. So he was paralyzed for the rest of his life. The two twins go to their neighbor's house once in a while because they're friends, and one day the man says that if you think hard enough to change places with each other in a game, than it could happen. So one day at a football game, Tom is calling the plays and Michael is on the sideline thinking hard to change places. Then all of a sudden it happens! They switched places and Michael is in the uniform and tom is sitting in the wheelchair with Michael's clothes on. Michael calls the play and it works to perfection. So Michael gets his wish to play football again, come true. My favorite character in this book is Michael because once he switches places with Tom and, makes a good play and once he comes back to his real self, everyone is cheering for Tom. And Michael wasn't selfish enough to go tell everyone that he was actually the person who made the good play. Michael was really good at football, and it was very unfortunate that he had to get hit by a car and be paralyzed for the rest of his life.

The reason I recommend this book is so interesting that whenever I read it I never want to put it down. I always want to read the next line, or next page, or next chapter of the book.

2 out of 5 stars the sweet book review.......2006-05-31

I think this book is kind of boring because I didn't enjoy it. I wouldn't recommend this book either because again I thought it was boring.
I think it was hard to concentrate on this story because I didn't enjoy it. Science fiction stuff doesn't really catch my attention.
Yes I thought this book was boring. TEC and ESP aren't things that interest me. I like football that's it.

4 out of 5 stars The Great Quarter Back Switch.......2005-12-09

This book is about two twins that love the game of football, but one of the twins is handicaped. When his other brother plays in the football games, they switched their minds and the twin that was normal would be sitting in the wheelchair. I think that this book is very good. Its not the greatest, but its good for kids like in the middle school or junior high.

5 out of 5 stars The great Quarterback switch.......2004-12-21

      Book Description

Many have said Johnny Unitas was the best quarterback who ever played the game. No less an authority than Sports Illustrated thinks so. In a 2002 statistical analysis of NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks and active quarterbacks with HOF credentials, Unitas was ranked #1. Johnny U was also the hero of untold millions of youths who spent countless hours in their backyards emulating the stoop-shouldered, rifle-armed legend who wore the familiar 19 on his jersey.

Johnny Unitas's story is a classic rags-to-riches tale. The skinny, blue-collar kid who played college ball at a little-known school and failed in a tryout with his hometown pro team was given a second chance by the Baltimore Colts. Two years later he led the team to victory in the 1958 NFL Championship game, a game dubbed the greatest ever played. Unitas played eighteen seasons (and in ten Pro Bowls), retiring in 1973 as the league's all-time leader in passing yards with more than 40,000. His unsurpassed record of forty-seven consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass continues to be mentioned in the same breath as baseball icon Joe DiMaggio's fifty-six-game hitting streak.

When Unitas unexpectedly died in September 2002, the sports world mourned the passing of a genuine sports hero. In Johnny Unitas: Mr. Quarterback, dozens of his friends, neighbors, acquaintances, relatives, fans, and teammates present compelling firsthand memories, insights, and testimonials. Their stories begin with his schoolboy days in Pittsburgh and carry on to his years of toiling in near anonymity at the University of Louisville and his nearly two decades in the NFL and beyond.

THIS IS ABOUT JOHN UNITAS FORMER NFL GREAT. THE BOOK CONATINS MANY STORIES AND INSIGHTS BY VARIOUS RELATIVES TEAMATES AND FRIENDS OF JOHNNY U. SOME OF THE MANY WHO CONTRIBUTED THEIR STORIES ABOUT UNITAS ARE TOM MATTE, DON SHULA, LENNY MOORE AND SAM HUFF. I FOUND THIS TO BE A NICE BUT NOT TOO DETAILED BOOK ABOUT UNITAS. I THINK HIS TOUGHNESS, LACK OF EGO AND PURE TALENT WERE THE MAIN ISSUES IN MOST OF THESE INTERESTING STORIES. NOT A GREAT BOOK BUT A VERY INTERESTING AND NOSTALGIC TRIP FOR ALL COLT FANS. RECOMENDED.

        Book Description

If at one time the Dallas Cowboys were America's Team, Roger Staubach was America's Quarterback. Roger the Dodger was a real-life embodiment of apple pie, world championships, and role models. Staubach was a Heisman Trophy winner at Annapolis who served four years as a naval officer before going on to a stellar eleven-year career with the Dallas Cowboys that included four NFC championships and two Super Bowl titles. Considered the master of the two-minute offense and late-game comeback, Staubach eventually earned a spot in the Cowboys' illustrious Ring of Honor and, ultimately in 1985, the Pro Football Hall of Fame. If ever there was a perfect meshing of franchise, coach, and on-field leader, it was the silver-white-and-blue Cowboys of the seventies with Tom Landry strolling the sidelines in his trademark fedora and the unflappable Staubach barking signals. He led the NFL in passing five times, and when he retired at age thirty-seven he departed t!

he game in possession of the highest quarterback rating of all time. After his retirement from football, he pretty much left the game behind, forsaking a shot at coaching or television commentary to focus his energies on the corporate world as chairman and CEO of the Staubach Company, a diversified commercial real estate company. Roger Staubach: Captain America is an oral history of Staubach's life, times, and career. It is told in the words of dozens of former teammates and opponents, friends, business associates, civic leaders, acquaintances, and others who have known him over the years. Staubach turned sixty in 2002, and this book offers a touching and telling testimonial to a true American hero and role model.

Box of Moonlight is the third film from independent director Tom DeCillo, whose previous movies were Johnny Suede and Living in Oblivion. This book contains the complete screenplay of Box of Moonlight as well as an 80-page diary by DeCillo about the making of the picture. Living in Oblivion was a movie about the difficulty of moviemaking; the even more autobiographical Notes from Overboard is another take on this subject, brimming with the caustic humor and ironic sensibility that is characteristic of DiCillo's film work.

School Book Nation is an important contribution to understanding the "history wars." Anyone who thinks that the teaching of history only became controversial in the last generation or two would be well-advised to read this work.

Moreau does more than discuss the history of history textbooks; he provides a thoughtful analysis of how textbooks have been written from historiographical and pedagogical perspectives. His research shows history controversies from the early American republic to the present day (and may depress those who think that textbook sales are free from base economic and political motives. Profit, it seems, trumps scholarly aloofness).

The result is an engaging story in its own right on how Americans have viewed and used textbooks over the years.

Both high school teachers and college professors (in particular those professors who teach future teachers) will benefit from School Book Nation. 4 out of 5 stars Countless Adventure Possibilities.......2005-02-14

Steven Soderburgh once said "If you can get Don Cheadle in your movie, hire him". My opinion has always been "If Wolfgang Baur wrote it, buy it". His adventures & supplements, all the way back to "Doom of Daggerdale" and the original "Al-Qadim" supplements, have always been amongst the strongest in the genre. This book is no exception. It provides expanded rules (rather than duplicating the DM Guide) on travelling & adventuring in and through various planes. It introduces new, unique monsters and civilizations, as well as the prerequisite spells, feats and magic items. It introduces interesting new planes that could be the center of a whole high-level/epic campaign: I especially liked the "Lizard Kingdoms" and the "Gardens of Yragon". However, like any supplement with multiple authors, the various settings are uneven in originality and execution (the various "Hell" planes were a disappointment), but overall, very well done. The settings provided are various and original enough to provide for hundreds of adventures and dozens of campaigns.

3 out of 5 stars Planescape Reunion? Try more like Spelljammer........2004-10-26

Being a devotee of Planescape, I was looking forward to this book, which was supposed to be a reunion on Planescape writers, and comprising of brand-new exciting planes for the planar traveller to enjoy.. Sadly, it was a disappointment. The first chapter was pretty good, with its discussion on planar connections and planar travel. However, when he got to the planes, each were lacking. None feel like they should be a plane; they all felt like they should be a planet that a Spelljammer campaign might visit. Relit a sun which will warm up the plane and allow life to once again flourish? That would work better in Spelljammer.

A place where LN xorns discourage travellers so they won't take away the valuable minerals that are as common as dirt on the plane? That would work better at a Spelljammer planet?

A place where spider-like beings have to fight an invading, powerful ant-like beings? Once again, that's not a plane, that's a planet for a Spelljammer crew to visit.

Add to this a lack of crunchy bits like new feats, spells, etc., and you have a mediocre book. If it was a Spelljammer book, it would rate a 4, or may a 5 due to a dirth of material. But as a planer guide, which has no planar flavour whatsoever, it ranks its 3, which would have been a 2 save for its worthiness as an unintentional Spelljammer supplement.

"The ultimate typographic tool: a concise, beautiful book that pulls together everything you need to produce great typography."
--Frank Romano, RIT School of Print Media

"Clear and elegant...There's no better or more useful introduction to the whole craft of typography."
                    --Roger Black, Danilo Black, Inc.

"All you've always wanted to know about type and typography but never dared to ask. Jim Felici brings together a vast amount of knowledge in this book. Must-have!"
--Erik Spiekermann, author, Stop Stealing Sheep (and Find Out How Type Works)

This book is about how type should look and how to make it look that way; in other words, how to set type like a professional. It releases the craft knowledge that used to reside almost exclusively in the heads of people working in type shops. The shops are gone, the technologies have changed, but the goal remains the same. This book explains in very practical terms how to use today's computerized tools to achieve that secret of good design: well-set type.

Beautifully designed and richly illustrated, The Complete Manual of Typography is an essential reference for anyone who works with type. Designers, print production professionals, and corporate communications managers can go straight to the index to find focused answers to specific questions, while educators and students can read it as a textbook from cover to cover.
