Book Description
Considered a classic in its field, this comprehensive book guides buyers through the array of financing choices, including fixed-rate and adjustable mortgages, FHA or VA loans and creative financing arrangements, and shows sellers how to improve property, screen buyers and set the right price. Readers will also learn how to take advantage of home equity to relieve financial concerns from remodeling expenses to college tuition.
Customer Reviews:
Not a book for beginners..........2007-04-04
My suggestion is to read The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying and Selling a Home, or a comparable beginners book, before reading this one.
You need to know the basic home buying process and terminology first. The greatest value of the Kiplinger book is on the elaborate discussion on financial and tax issues related to buying and selling a home.
The book is divided into two major sections, each starting with those two issues (why buy/sell, tax repercussions), before discussing the buying/selling process.
I found the discussion on tax benefits of home ownership, tax breaks on mortgage interests, and tax laws that allow tax-free profits from selling your primary residence, very informative. It has many sample forms used in the home buying/selling process. You might find the details overwhelming, but that's because there's so much great info which is not covered in Idiot/Dummy books.
Faire.......2006-03-07
I actually could not even complete the book. I feel that the prose is somewhat circular and felt that the book was disorganized. However, my main problem was with the writing. I had a difficult time following the book.
good with House Selling for Dummies.......2003-07-10
I was only interested in the "selling" part. It was quite good. With both this and House Selling for Dummies in hand, you'll have everything you need to sell your home.
I highly recommend it.

In this engrossing and hypnotic tale of witchcraft and the occult spanning four centuries, we meet a great dynasty of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being.
Book Description
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding stoyrtelling, Anne Rice makes real a family of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philsophy, a family that is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being.
"Unfolds like a poisonous lotus blossom redolent with luxurious evil."

Customer Reviews:
Love the Mayfair witches!!!.......2007-09-16
I loved the Mayfair witches. Anne Rice did an excellent job of the telling of the family history. I totally disagree with the reviewers who said the book was too long. For me, it was not long enough. I guess some people just have a short attention span, which makes it hard for them to finish things. This book was wonderful!!! Well done Anne Rice!!!
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A really long romance novel with a twist, I suppose. The female protagonist is a doctor, and she saves an architect from drowning. They then realise they have a thing.
The Talamasca is also involved, and so is a spirt named Lasher.
The sordid history of the Mayfair witch family is revealed.
The spirit, wanting to be corporeal again, tricks Rowan Mayfair, and installs itself in her unborn child, forcing his rebirth.
Ok, But WAY Too Long.......2007-08-28
Of course Anne Rice is a good writer. Anyone who has read the Vampire Chronicles knows that! I would never say she is a bad writer. But her book, "The Witching Hour", is a test of one's patience! The story is excellent and kept me wondering how it was going to progress. I give it that. But getting any progression was SLOW. Why was this book not edited down at least 100 pages, or more? It is way too long. Even John Steinbeck did not go on this long with his descriptive style. I did fall asleep while reading it several times due to its rambling on and on about the history of the Mayfair characters, and giving us too much information that we did not need. It was a page turner at several spots, but in many others I thought, "Do I even want to turn the page?"! I almost totally quit reading a few times. Still, in the end, I rated it "OK", for Ms. Rice's imagination is extraordinary and I envy it!
Captivating.......2007-08-23
I loved all the Witch Chronicles. Anne has a way of writing which drawn you into the world of her books like you are living it! I am now working on the Vampire Chronicles. The Jesus - Out of Egypt book is a completely transformed writing by Anne Rice and I am looking forward to her upcoming Jesus book.
Dark and beautiful.......2007-08-21
I remember not getting 50 pages into this before I gave up the first time. The second time, a few years later, I was determined to finish it. I am so glad I did. It is a very heavy (not literally), dense, somewhat complicated mega novel. There are MANY characters to keep track of, but the way Anne writes about her characters and the history of the time period, it is just too perfect for words. This novel has it all; Its gothic, beautiful, witty, seductive and above all, highly entertaining. It still took me a little while to finish it, but I am glad I stuck with it. The payoff was worth it. I do plan to re-read this sometime in the near future.
If you are an Anne Rice fan, please read this, you will not be dissapointed. I have read every single Anne Rice novel, and this is up there with some of the best written ones.

Book Description
Together for the first time on CD are three powerful and alluring stories of New Orleans’ Dynasty of witches, The Mayfair Witches.
Lasher, read by Joe Morton
At the heart of this extraordinary saga is Rowan Mayfair’s attempt to escape the evil spell and vision of the darkly compelling demon, Lasher, and his pursuit of her and their terrifying and exquisite child. It is a novel that moves around the globe, backward and forward through time, and between the human and demonic worlds.
The Witching Hour, read by Lindsay Crouse
The epic of the Mayfair witches begins when Rowan Mayfair pulls the drowned body of Michael Curry from the sea and brings him back to life. She is aware that she possesses special powers, but unaware that she comes from a great dynasty of withces. He, in his brief interlude with death, has acquired sendsory abilities that mystify and frighten him. Fiercely drawn to each other, the two fall in love and set out to solve the mystery of her past and his unwelcome gift.
Taltos, read by Tim Curry
Meet Mr. Ash, quiet spoken, tall, unfailingly kind–sole survivor of an ancient species, the Taltos–thriving among humankind as he has always done, head of a great corporate empire. As the novel opens, he is stunned to learn from and old and mysterious friend that another Taltos has been seen. At once he is propelled into the world of Rowan Mayfair, into the mysteries of the Mayfair family–a family initimately involved with the heritage of the Taltos.

The Whating Hour?.......2006-08-30
Huh? I've been reading comics for over 20 years. Love Jeph Loeb. But this is the first ever graphic novel I couldn't get through. Tried twice. Thoroughly confusing. Amazingly disjointed. Absolutely a waste of time and money. File this one under "Doesn't make any sense and impossible to follow so it must be a masterpiece."
a great book.......2001-01-06
Chris bachalo is one of my favorite comic pencilers, and this book has a great story that goes around Magic, witches, modern day youth, crimes and psychology. The story evolves around a bunch of interesting characters, among them is a witch that has lived for hundreds of years but remains young and lives among ordinary people unnoticed, but with a few mental conflicts. her friends are also mystical characters that have all distinctive personalities, and they all have activities that change peoples lives.I wont reveal anymore, you should check it out yourself. the story is very well written, mature and complex and keeps you reading. the artwork is eye catching and its very enjoyable. I recommend this one for its great art and story, you have good material here, one of my faves.

A must for bulldog enthusiasts.......2000-06-04
This book made me laugh out loud more times than I could count. Wonderful illustrations and poingant observations of "bulldog-do: the way of the bulldog". Having recently lost a bulldog companion I was delighted to be reminded with such touching humor of all the wonders of the "way of the bulldog". The book covers the arts of war and peace, for example Bulldog Zen, "coming when called", "the leash of no leash", and techniques of meditation. The arts of war include such tactics as "the mysterious assault of the foul wind", "making your own body into a bobby trap" and "the flurry of flying drool" all beautifully illustrated by J.C Brown, a calligrapher and illustrater living in Tokyo, whose other work includes "Zen for Cats". The book itself is translated from the Japanese by Jeff Hunter, a translator specializing in Buddhism and literature, and master to the Samurai Bulldog Chibibusuka Dogizaemon, the soon to be famous author. Do yourself a favor and buy this book it will make you laugh and possibly cry. It might even make you laugh till you cry.

Book Description
Noted film scholar Wheeler Winston Dixon offers a behind-the-scenes look into the lives of both major and marginalized figures who have dynamically transformed the landscape of international cinema in the twentieth century. Fifteen interviews spanning two decades of research are collected here, with many appearing in uncut form for the first time. Dixon’s interviewees represent a wide range of cinematic professions (directors, animators, actors, writers, and producers) from several branches of cinema (artistic, avant-garde, and commercial) with Dixon providing an introduction prior to each interview.
Purposeful in his selections, Dixon offers up voices from twentieth-century cinema that have never before had the chance to speak at such length and detail, as well as much more well-known figures addressing unique and obscure aspects of their respective careers. Collectively, this volume presents a treasure trove of firsthand information of keen interest to film scholars and movie buffs alike, while providing a glimpse into the future of cinema in the twenty-first century.

"It's understood that hardcore death-metal rockers or urban gothic punks would find themselves in possession of this book," writes the editor. "But we are also aware that there are others--mothers and housewives, businessmen and laymen--who would be just as delighted..." Subtitled A Celebratory Excursion into Beautiful Extremes of Life, Lust & Death, Funeral Party II is explicitly dedicated to death eroticism. The book's design, layout, and illustrations are varied and beautiful. The 16 full-color plates are by artists such as Trevor Brown and George Kuchar. The fiction includes stories by Lucy Taylor, Rob Hardin, John Shirley, Jack Ketchum, and Thomas S. Roche. A prose piece by surrealist artist Hans Bellmer is illustrated with his distinctively tortuous visions of the female body. Article topics include the sleaziest tabloids in America, contemporary Grand Guignol theater, lesbian bars of pre-Nazi Berlin, actor Ulli Lommel (of Fassbinder fame), and pathology specimens. There's also a comic by Miguel Ángel Martín, the road-kill sculptures of Milo Sacchi, interviews, and reviews. Warning: Funeral Party II is graphically sexual, and is only for adults who are not easily offended.
Book Description
Funeral Party 2 is a sublime collection of fine darkness and decadence--carefully compiled with the libertine in mind. Includes fiction from Jack Ketchum, John Shirley, Lucy Taylor, Rob Hardin and Thomas S. Roche. Artwork from Trevor Brown, Hans Bellmer, Miguel Angel Martin, Milo Sacchi, George Kuchar, and Mike Kuchar. Interviews with Ulli Lommel, Jack Ketchum, The New Grand Guignol Theatre; articles from Whitehouse, Peter Sotos, Philip Nutman and more. From deviant behavior to violent sex, Funeral Party covers it all from dark to darkest!

Customer Reviews:
Techniques Only Really Work for their Photos on CD.......2007-02-11
They only talk about the examples in terms of the example photos they supplied. Sure, they can be adjusted to work for any photos, but their techniques don't fit exact. And little things are annoying like they spend a page on how to remove a stem out of a cherry for a photo they supplied. It doesn't apply to any other photo!
It has some good techniques, but they don't work well with the photos I used. I luckily have some decent Photoshop knowledge and was able to make some work. Others, I was NOT able to make work.
This is useful if you only want to learn things using their photos. If you want to try to use your own photos, you will have a HARD time.
Definately not for someone without a fair amount of Photoshop experience. If you have a decent understanding, you might be able to use some of these ideas.
But overall, the book is wasteful. I don't understand why you wouldn't be more BROAD in your descriptions. Why not take into account the person buying this book might actually use their own photos?
Not for photographers.......2006-08-13
Very involved graphic techniques. Probably excellent effects for a graphic artist, but not much value for editing and tweaking photos. Certainly a waste of time and money for those of us just interested in photography.
Don't bother.......2006-07-15
This book is nothing more than some very poor examples of how to make the most annoying pictures possible using filters in the most obnoxious way possible. Looking through the book, I saw MAYBE 1 thing I could use. If you are someone who just wants to make goofy pictures using nothing more than filters, you may get some use out of it, if you're a graphic designer / professional, don't waste your time or money.
What the $%#@!!!.......2006-06-03
I am about mid way through this book and I HAD to check Amazon.com to see what in hell other people must have said about this book. I saw what I expected to read. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS!! And.. I liked one comment that summed it up, THIS BOOK IS AWFUL!! I will also NEVER buy a $45 book from Borders on a whim.
The directions are VERY hard to follow, there are many typos, and here and there, parts of sentences are cut off right in mid-instruction.
Another big BOO BOO... on the disc that comes with the book, there is a password to get the zip files open. And instructions to GET the password from a file on the disk's chapters that don't exist. I looked for contact info to let them know I had a faulty disc.. I found nothing but London's Website, which led no where except other Websites. I finally contacted Comstock and a VERY nice customer service agent informed me that the password is on the file named JupiterImages EULA.doc. Okay, fine..anyone can make a mistake, even a writer/publisher.. but I work on a Macintosh, as do most graphic designers, and this password is hidden in a Microsoft Doc that I could not open. I had to hunt down someone with a PC to get the .doc open to get the password. This was supposed to be Mac first tutorials!!
WAAAAYYY too much hassel for me having to pay that much money for the book.
The reason for the two stars? The book made me think. I HAD to think. Because the instructions cirtainly are not easily defined in this book. By forcing me to figure it out everything that was missing from instruction, I am learning to put two ends together by winging it and giving it my best shot. I got aggrivated to where I had to put it down and come back to it later.. but so far, I've figured out how to get these projects to work. I am also not a beginner in Photoshop.
So, take what you can from this, I hope it's helpful.
CS2 Gone Wild ?.......2006-04-13
An awful book. As an amateur, my comfort level with Photoshop was enhanced by having used similar books. The formula? Follow the author's step by step instructions to replicate a project. In doing so, learn how and why specific features are useful and how they create a desired result. In addition, I learned to use tools that previously had been unknown to me. This was not my experience with Gone Wild.
The first challenge was selecting a project to replicate. Ninety-five percent of the projects looked to me more like a caricature of a professional's work (proof that creativity and quality are not always synonymous). Okay, so the projects are underwhelming. Perhaps the value would be found in the journey and not the destination? Sadly, I soon discovered this was not the case.
The instructions were often confusing and at times seemed contradictory. Rather than becoming more comfortable with the CS2 features being highlighted, I was becoming more frustrated. Again, I am admittedly an amateur. Maybe those more experienced with Photoshop would have been less frustrated. Which begs the question, why would they use this book?
Bottom line. My Photoshop creative genius was not freed (see cover). My desire to never again purchase a resource book on a whim was definitely freed. Knowing what I now know, I would have avoided this book even if it had been offered to me for free.
