The information and concepts delivered in this book are really valuable. However, I do wish someone else had read it. Mr. Gelb's voice and reading style is really annoying - which makes it difficult to listen to. He could talk about himself a little less as well.

I just got done listening to Work Like da Vinci. It is brilliant with a presenation that puts you inside one of Michael's workshops. It has a rifle shot accuracy at thoughtfully addressing the most relevant needs for personal development in business in the 21st century! I offer my compliments to Michael on his ability to continuously build deeper content with greater and greater insights based on the work of Leonardo da Vinci. Da Coach - You gotta love him.......2005-11-29

Da Coach, you gotta love him. The editor, however, that's a slightly different story.

While I love Ditka and the Bears, the book wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be. It's as if all of Ditka's friends and family got together and wrote down their best Ditka stories on bar napkins. They picked them up, shuffled them, and then created a book.

I'm not sure, but I think each person wrote their own sections. I doubt the editor did much at all. This is the book's major downfall. A gifted writer could have squeezed so much more out of the stories, many of which I had never heard.

I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't. I liked it a great deal, but the choppiness, the amateur writing, and the absolute lack of any direction severely limited the book's effectiveness.

There are, however, bright spots. The actual stories, if you can ignore the writing and one-on-one style, are very entertaining. Ditka's days in college, his playing antics, his coaching antics, and general kookiness are spread throughout the book. It's the Ditka you all love. It's the hard-working, foul-mouthed, take no sh** attitude that made the city of Chicago fall in love with him, and it's the same energy that carries this book.

In the end, my love for the city of Chicago, Ditka, the Bears, and nearly all things related made the book enjoyable.

Great WWII Read.......2004-04-16

Very enjoyable, informative read. You can skip around the book at will; no need to read cover to cover.

It's interesting to note that during WWII, people just pitched in and did their duty. There was no bellyaching about links between Hitler and Pearl Harbor, etc., like we see in America today.

Best I've found so far.......2007-03-20

Reference books about SolidWorks are few and far between. As the program becomes more widely used we will undoubtedly have more books from which to choose. I have looked over and used many of the references that are currently available and in my opinion this one is the best of the bunch. There are omissions - no sheetmetal or configurations to name two - but what is included here is good. SolidWorks is a great program but learning it can be quite challenging. This book can make the experience easier and more enjoyable.

Significant Omissions.......2006-10-05

This book completely omits the topic of Configurations. There is a single paragraph of about 6 lines mentioning Design Tables. There is also nothing on multi-body parts. Sheet metal does not show up once. Nothing on weldments. About 5 lines on top-down modeling. Nothing at all on surfacing. Nothing on installation, templates, any CAD admin topics. No best practice or performance tips.

Use of the English language is a bit quirky. Seems like an uncomfortable translation.

Somehow, with all that missing, and probably more that I haven't found, 5 of the 14 chapters are listed as "advanced".

The index is alphabetized using words like "creating", "changing", "drawing", "editing", "generating" which makes some topics unsearchable.

This may be a useful book for beginners, but anyone who has been using the software for more than six months will find it lacking. You're better off with the SW help files.

On the good side, there are several simple tutorials and exercises, along with evaluation exams. The illustrations and charts are pretty good.

Being a SW instructor using this book in the class, just wanted to drop a couple of lines. It is a great book for teaching as well as learning SW. Most of the commands of completing an industry design are explained in details. Recommended for learners and teachers both.

Outstanding Training Guide.......2006-01-19

I learned to use SW largely through this book. The style is like a textbook with good "homework problems." It is quite readable, given the dry subject matter. In particular, there are many very good examples at the end of each chapter in both "cookbook" style and those needing to be solved, free form, by the reader (a great way to test and reinforce learning). It is a little weak on some of the advanced topics and doesn't really deal with the "peripheral" SW applications (PDMworks, PhotoWorks, FeatureWorks, etc.). In particular, surface modeling is lightly treated and (if I recall correctly) sheet metal modeling is noticeable by its absence. Nonetheless, the book will get you 85% of the way there and that's not bad. Recommended.

Great resource for technical stuff.......2006-01-07

This text is a great technical resource. There is so much more than just SolidWorks... it teaches you how to approach towards modeling a component with best possible manner and in minimum time. The steps at the start of the tutorial lists the route we should take and that makes our life a lot easier.

Downloaded resources from the publishers website and they are great too. The part files of the illustrations in the book makes us understand every concept so easily because they are the same model displayed in the exaplanation in the book also.
