Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

This book makes available to English-speakers a comprehensive description and incisive critique of the Japanese tax system. This revised edition contains three new chapters, incorporating tax reforms of the early 1990s. The work details changes to consumption tax and to land tax in order to
understand the recent development of the tax system. Having served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Land Taxation, Ishi has the experience to write about these recent developments. He begins by tracing the development of the Japanese tax system, introducing the system in an historical and
contemporary context and highlighting its main features. Ishi examines individual and corporate tax, as well as indirect, inheritance, gift, and local taxation. The book includes Ishi's appraisal of the system and proposals for further reform measures. The numerous comparative tables have been
updated and equations recalculated, using extensive data not publicly available.

Oops, that summary makes me sound like one of Crawford's characters (NOT a self-compliment). But that's only fair, as his art functions best as a mirror in which we in the supposed "underground" (which term has lost most of its meaning since these cartoons first appeared) can laugh and wince at our own absurdity. His grotesque drawings and ripsaw wit make mincemeat of everything lame and pretentious about the musical/political "subcultures" that festered around the SF Bay and in fact most coastal cities. (By refraining from Goya comparisons, can I avoid sounding like Crawford's character Art Hefty? Hope so.)

Many people objected to his attacking already marginalized groups, comparable to stomping a paraplegic, and largely sparing more deserving targets in mainstream society. But, I think he detected a certain precious, self-congratulatory arrogance on the part of these (largely) declasse, parent-supported hipster frauds. And his spindly, ink-clotted caricatures and lacerating prose gave these parasites a kicking they won't soon forget. And which they had previously been exempt from.

Every movement needs antibodies to fight the rot and sanctimony that eventually turn all "avant gard" cabals into impotent, mutual-admiration societies. Crawford provides such healthful abuse, leavened with rip-cracking humor and a supple penline. Many of his targets are still around, still doing their clownish damage, so buy this book as soon as possible.

And relax--it's not nearly as solemn as I've made it sound.

                    Book Description

Legendary impresario Bill Graham began in January 1966 to commission posters to promote the concerts he was putting on at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. The poster artists created vivid, irreverent banners that reflected their own sense of poetics, style, and wit. What resulted were signature juxtapositions of design, lettering, and color that represented a brand-new art form. These posters now occupy a place in art history while surviving as treasured artifacts of rock archaeology.

Published in cooperation with Bill Graham Presents, The Art of the Fillmore reunites for the first time in a single volume the original Bill Graham posters created exclusively for the San Francisco and New York Fillmore dance concerts. Indexes cross-reference the posters with the bands they advertised and the poster artists who created them.

                    4 out of 5 stars Useful Resource.......2007-06-17

The main positives: this is complete, showing the first and most modest flyer, up through the closing of the Fillmore; almost all the flyers are at least partly in color, and they do indeed show the tenor of the era (which I well remember).

The main negative: most of these are shown as a small part of each page; few are relatively large, and I don't recall any being full-page size. So, don't buy this book in the expectation that you're getting a collection of full-page reproductions (even reduced in size from the originals, as they would be).

5 out of 5 stars Important historical document found!.......2007-02-26

This zeros in on what the sixties meant to me. A period of artistic creativity without bounds and limits. One giant leap for mankind...I used to sit in art class and try to copy the lettering in some of these psychedelic posters and it was hard. And to think these San Francisco artist were so prolific as to produce a new one or two every week. I was in awe of this period and love to look back on that scene. Thanks to the Bill Graham estate for compiling this tomb from the ancient ones that came before us.

The psychedelic posters from the late 1960's are classic and very much a part of rock history. These posters were commissioned by Bill Graham, who ran the Fillmore East and West, and other venues. The posters were beautiful and colorful and psychedelic. They were carefully created and used to promote the concerts, but what makes them so amazing is that all this work to promote only a few weekend concerts, which typically featured three or four bands playing on Friday and Saturdays. Never again would such works of art capture the moment. This book tells you about the artists and how they came to become Fillmore artists, and of course full color reproductions of the Fillmore posters are prominently featured through the book. If you love the posters, you'll love the book.

As a person who attended some of the shows represented by the posters, I loved the book. It brought back many, many memories and inspirations. The book captured the essence of Bill Graham as an entrepreneur and, as it turned out, supporter of the arts.
Not a book for everyone, but if you were there, or you think you wanted to be there, this is a great value.

4 out of 5 stars A must have for any collector of the Fillmore posters........1998-09-19

Now you can see just how beautiful these rock posters are. Each poster in the Fillmore series is presented in full color. An excellent tool to guide you in your purchases, or just help you to enjoy these works of art. Excellent information on the artists and some cool insights into the people and the place that was the Fillmore west.

I went out and purchased this book based on some good reviews here at Amazon. I was really unimpressed with it. It is much less a primer on how to program "AI" types of apps with .NET, and much more a manual of how to use Microsoft applications like their speech services and data mining.

I do .NET for a living, which is to say that I am probably not an expert but am proficient. This book was not really aimed at .NET programming. It was aimed at "look at these cool MS apps" and "here is how to right click to enable data cubes". What I mean to say here is that when a topic came up like speech recognition, way to much attention was paid to how to use the Microsoft Wizards and Configuration tools, and little or no time was spent on the actual API or coding practices. In some cases no example programming code was provided.

This book was really sub-par compared to many of the other programming books I have purchased in general. I really don't want to be mean to the author, as she seems to really care about the subject matter. IMHO this book just is not very good, does not provide very good examples, and does not show anywhere near enough actual .NET code.

4 out of 5 stars Great primer book on Microsoft technologies for Intelligent Apps.......2006-02-07

Building Intelligent .NET Applications is an excellent primer book into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the business world, specifically related to Microsoft technologies.

Building Intelligent .NET Applications is an introduction to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for .NET programmers. It is the first book I have seen that shows professional .NET developers how to incorporate AI into their daily programming. In this accessible guide, developers learn how to enhance new and existing .NET applications with intelligent agents, data mining, rule-based systems, and speech processing.

Sara dives quite deep into four different branches of the vast world of AI with a great balance of conceptual theory, code samples and real world scenarios. She leads the reader though the complete process of obtaining the technologies to full implication with complete code. Both Visual Basic.Net and C# can be downloaded online while the book gives all examples in Visual Basic.Net.

Sara explores four of the most popular AI technologies by building real-world sample applications that readers can use as the basis for their own applications. Some of the more interesting portions include; Applications that talk-critical for companies seeking to automate their call centers, Speech-enabled mobile applications, Multimodal speech applications, Data-mining predictions, which uncover trends and patterns in large quantities of data, Rule-based programming for applications that can be more reactive to their environments, Multiple software agents that are able to keep remote users up to date and sample applications for Windows and the Web.

The book starts out with a one chapter overview called "Instruction" which is exactly that. It introduces the reader to Business Artificial Intelligence and lays the groundwork for the rest of the book. Immediately in chapter two the book dives into Microsoft Speech Server which is the first of four main technologies that are covered in this book. Microsoft Speech Server is covered until Chapter 5 when the book dives into Data-Mining predictions. Chapter 7 gets into Rule-based systems and Chapter 8 into building Agents.

Chapter 9 finishes off the book with an excellent overview of Artificial Intelligence. In fact, for an overview of AI and Microsoft's investment into it now and in the near future, the final chapter of the book was my favorite. Sara painted an exciting picture of what is in store, as well as opening my eyes to things that exist already. AI isn't a thing of the distant future; in fact there is an exciting array of mature technologies in use and available today.

Personally I felt that Chapter 9 would have made a better introduction chapter. I didn't feel that Artificial Intelligent or Business AI was covered in much depth in the first chapter of the book. By the time chapter 2 dove in deep into the first branch of the four topics, I still had some unanswered overview questions in my mind. After reading Chapter 9 though, the need I felt for more general information was met.

Now with Microsoft Speech server, applications that can talk and interact intelligently with a user is not only possible, it's relatively easy and affordable, even for the small business. Developers can create powerful, intelligent applications that are specific to their business. You can create fully database-driven talking applications that understand speech, talk back (not like a rebellious 15-year-old) and respond differently to each unique situation. This can be used for a telephone application, someone sitting in front of a dumb terminal with audio capability or for a fully configured computer application. Dream big, the options are endless, the solutions are within reach.

Running reports against data has been common for decades, but consider intelligent agents that will dig, analyze, determine a new direction to dig by itself, and return relevant patterns and trends in the data that were never discovered before. Sara covers this very topic with theory, code examples, scenarios and clear and precise explanations.

Agents that self perpetuate, learn their new environment and respond accordingly are the way of the future. The most obvious and painfully in-your-face examples are malicious worms and spyware applications. Worms lodge themselves in an environment, take advantage of their new home by finding important information like a list of emails addresses, and then they spread automatically, continuing this vicious cycle. Spyware agents also install themselves in an environment and start interacting with it to get information to send back to their creator. Now, consider the endless possibilities where Agents can be used for good, and are in use today. The author covers this very topic.

I wouldn't say this book is a general overview of Business Intelligent Design, but rather a specific look at four major technologies and a few minor technologies. The Microsoft products covered are Microsoft Visual Studio.Net, Microsoft Speech Server and SASDK, Microsoft SQL Server, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), BizTalk Server, Microsoft Agent, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and I'm sure a couple other smaller technologies that I didn't list. In addition to these, Sara briefly covers SQL Server 2005, Analysis Services 2005, and Longhorn with Avalon, Indigo, and WinFS.

One of the characteristics of a good technical book is making the complex subjects sound simple. The author has done a tremendous job of that in this book. The range of topics that she covers at first glance seems complex, but at no point does she leave the reader overwhelmed. At the same time she doesn't over explain or drag on needlessly.

This book is about the IA (Intelligent Applications) part of AI (Artificial Intelligence). It focuses on Microsoft solutions for Speech solutions, Agents, Data Mining and Rule-Based Systems, and does a great job of it.

The following sample chapters from the book are available online at Addison-Wesley's site:

                              Data-Mining Predictions

                              Creating .NET Applications That Talk

                              2 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Book.......2005-12-19

I recently purchased this book on Amazon. As an experienced .NET software developer, I am always keen on books that will expand my knowledge base in this area, and AI has been a particular interest of mine lately. Having read through much of the book, I have found it very disappointing. I would sum it up as a very shallow introduction to AI topics (often referred to as "Narrow AI") such as Data Mining. This book is more a manual on how to use Microsoft technologies, and does not include anywhere near the depth or practical examples needed on the subjects presented. I have personally found better info online.

This book exclusively discussed MS products. If these are the items the author wishes to discuss that is fine, but I was disappointed in the depth at which the products she included were discussed. A good example is the MS Speech API. The author discusses setting up the speech services in an ASP page via Visual Studio, but does not go into any real code. How do you write custom code for this API? How do you implement this in a WinForm where speech would seem to make much better sense? Many sections of the book avoid actual code and focus on screen shots of wizards and configuration tools.

The book did do a decent enough job of listing the technologies that MS has made available to .NET programmers. However, I believe that the author almost sugar-coated the MS stuff. Where are the downsides of these APIs, servers and tools? Where are the pitfalls that a programmer should avoid or watch for when implementing agents or data mining or speech services with these MS technologies? As an MCSD, MCT and as an experienced developer that has used a few generations of Microsoft software development tools, I know that with each of their technologies, there are hidden problems (like any vendor's software). The author does not impart any real level of knowledge of the practical usage of the technologies at hand. In fact, the book is left with a feel that a competent Microsoft technical writer could have written the book by simply copying-and-pasting documentation from various MS product lines.

I give the book 2 starts instead of one as there are a couple of gems in the book that I think I will use. However, I wish I had paid about $30 less for the book.

5 out of 5 stars Possibly the "Coolest" .NET Book Written.......2005-09-03

Since I'm a book nerd and Microsoft MVP, I try to read just about everything I can get my hands on .NET. Sara just straight up kicks butt with this book. Is it for Beginners trying to learn .NET? NO! Is it for intermediate programmers that work as developers simply b/c it's a way to earn a living. NO! Is this a book for adrenaline junkie programmers who like doing stuff few if any others have done. YEP. I have well over 100 books on .NET and other than the proposed one I'm working on, not 1 covers Speech Server. Sara jams on it. Data Mining is another great area - sure, Data Mining is not inherently the sexiest subject out there, but she makes it cool.

There are definitely zillions of other books out there to teach you .NET in general and this IS NOT that type of book. But if you're looking to expand your horizons, and have a lot of fun learning some really cool aspects of advanced .NET Technologies, this book is without competition!

4 out of 5 stars Experiments in 'enhanced computing'.......2005-06-21

This is a set of seven case studies is the use of agents, data mining, rule-based systems and speech recognition in the .NET framework. The examples are fairly high level, and these technologies are cutting edge. So you have to look at this as more of a field guide to an adventure rather than a succinct work on stable technologies.
