Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

"Could one, after all this purposeful work, have become an anachronism? A dinosaur? Replaceable?"
    --from English Papers

Well-known critic William H. Pritchard reviews his life as a passionate student and teacher of English in the classrooms of New England's Amherst College. Pritchard takes us from the era of the all-male college, where "conduct befitting a gentleman" was the only rule, through the political and social turmoil of the late 1960s, when the teaching of T.S. Eliot had to compete with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Ironically, as Pritchard finds his own voice as a critic and teacher, he finds also that his literary and pedagogical aims seem increasingly marginal. The book's later chapters recount the fragmentation and diversification of both the student body and an English department.

This lucid account offers a much needed personal chronicle of the issues involved in the contemporary debate surrounding the teaching of English literature. Pritchard not only observes, but dramatizes the teaching situation, and from both sides of the desk. With a candid mix of apology and nostalgia, Pritchard describes and evaluates changing circumstances in both the professor and the profession.

      Book Description

Subtitled "A Caddy's Lessons in Life, Business, and Golf," Distance to the Green defies rigid classification. Book stores shelve it on their business/motivation stacks. Golf stores carry it because of its vivid golfing stories and tips. Even non-golfers enjoy its humorous and real characters and the true-to-life instruction it provides.

The book follows Scotty, a hardheaded and egotistical college golfer who is forced to spend the summer caddying at National, the most prestigious golf course in the country. While caddying for some of the most significant and wealthy men and women in the country, he learns important life lessons from its members. He learns how to set and attain goals for both personal and business success. He learns how to "wire the deal" -- a five step process for extracting the greatness within all of us. He learns the real steps of problem solving, how mentoring helps increase intellectual capital, what team building can mean, what is truly significant in communication -- and still more, all of it vital in achieving success as an effective human being and leader.

Woven into these significant life lessons are great golfing stories, humor, hints, tips, and pure, colorful descriptions of the "best golf course in America." You'll enjoy meeting Scotty and who he becomes, his mentors, and you'll like the fact that you can share in his excitement and growth as he learns some valuable lessons . . . and you won't even have to carry the bags.

4 out of 5 stars A light and encouraging read.......1999-01-22

I really enjoyed this light read. What I really like is that it isn't a heavy motivator. There were no forceful attitudes like other motivational books I have read. It simply stated through an intelligent and humourous read that we can all learn values from others and then share our knowledge and values to help people with finding their own paths in life. Well done to the authors.

5 out of 5 stars Great book, especially for business people who golf........1998-10-21

A fun book with an interesting format. Scotty, the caddy, learns much that everyone needs to know. The golf stuff is accurate and the "lessons" are ones we all need to learn. This isn't quite self help, but it helped me in several ways . . . I highly recommend it!

      Book Description

What do Susan Sarandon, Barbara Hershey, Meryl Streep, Bette Midler, and Cher have in common?

All have portrayed lesbian characters on the silver screen. Although cinema and television in the last three decades of the twentieth century have been a wasteland for women in general and lesbians in particular looking for strong images of themselves, Bonnie Morris gives readers a front row seat on a life growing up and coming out at the movies. Morris writes, This is a collection of movie stories-by which I mean recollections of events, images, turning points generated by specific moviegoing experiences, and specific movies and the book is built around the catalyst of going to a movie as a chunk of formative girl identity. Girl Reel is a raucous, rollicking, sometimes acerbic look at the powerful influence the entertainment industry has on our community, family, and social lives.

A must-have for all film buffs, Girl Reel is a book about our relationship to popular culture-how media images both preview and rerun our own lives. By surveying images of women and lesbians in television and film over the seventies, eighties, and nineties, and chronicling the move of lesbian and gay issues from the margins to the mainstream, Morris offers her own images of strong women, for a new generation of readers / viewers.

Bonnie J. Morris is a professor of women's studies at George Washington University and Georgetown University. Born to Hollywood parents-her father was an extra in The Day the Earth Stood Still; her mother was an assistant to the movie star Greer Garson- Morris is the author of Eden Built by Eves (Alyson 1999) and two books on Jewish women's history, and she is a contributor to more than fifty books and journals.

      Customer Reviews:

      5 out of 5 stars Great memoir.......2003-02-07

This book took me by surprise. This memoir of Bonnie J. Morris reads like a wonderfully personal recollection of a film fan. Morris recalls the movie palaces of her youth, even discussing which theaters would hassle her about seeing GP movies without her folks present. Her enthusiasm about riding across town to spend an afternoon in the dark comfort of film is something to which I could immediately relate.

Morris writes about which films affected her deepest, delving into self-examination at times to see what made her react to the images on the silver screen. This effectively sets the stage for Morris' pubescent awakening. Playing out her teenage awkwardness while attending double features of HAROLD AND MAUDE and THE KING OF HEARTS, Morris describes going to see these films over and over with her "girl gang." She describes the films as a "brilliantly paired tribute to forbidden love between eccentric nonconformists."

It's through the movies and through their often distorted reflection of reality that Morris begins to realize and cope with the realization of her sexual orientation. Morris is a lesbian. Luckily, the book doesn't suddenly change gears upon this revelation. Instead, it's another lens through which Morris filters her experiences to the reader. If anything, Morris begins to increase her movie going and provides terrific insight with her reactions to the portrayal of lesbians in mainstream and Art House film.

The writing of Girl Reel is captivating. I devoured this 167-page book with vigor. By combining three of my favorite subjects; personal experience, film going, and women's studies, Girl Reel was a pleasant surprise, indeed! ISBN: 1566890942

5 out of 5 stars A nice tribute to my school.......2001-01-17

As a recent graduate of the "notorious" Carolina Friends School, I appreciate Ms. Morris' detailed description of our little "Commie school in the woods." I have had the opportunity to see her speak on my occasions at my school and I wholeheartedly recommend any work by her. Read this and you are in for a treat

5 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up for this cinematic blockbuster memoir.......2000-09-03

There is really no other book out there like this one-a rock and roll tour of women in the films and TV shows of the past three decades. I watched the same movies as Morris growing up. Reading her funny and insightful analyses of such pics as The Rose and Julia and Rocky Horror Picture show is way better than spending twenty bucks to go see Battleship Earth or Mission Impossible II. This book shows how far cinema has NOT come. So skip the cineplex and plop down in the Queen Anne chair instead, with Girl Reel and a bag of Jiffy Pop, and enjoy the show!

Hi, I am new to gaming and i have to say that this book is poor quality and was rushed. It has added nothing to my understanding of the game. It has no index to find anything. It misses so many bugs, Bradygames should get an update for it, it is so bad.

5 out of 5 stars When the Manual Fails.......2000-12-31

With the skill of adequate manual writing falling, strategy guides are icreasingly important. CTP 2 owners are fortunate that two veteran and literate gamers have had a chance to dissect the game to give us insights.

Basic city building concepts are not only explained clearly but the math behind them is provided. Units and wonders are described in depth while being put in historical context. Strategies are laid out in a way that explains but not condescends. Hints and tips are useful if the player is really in a bind.

The multi-player section explains more about logging in and using cheats rather than giving strategies. Given the nature of human opponents, this weakness is unavoidable.

Some readers might say the contents can be picked up for free on the 'Net. Perhaps but it would take some time and much printing and gathering of print-outs to get this information in one place, not to mention organized. Spend the money and save time.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as his first effort.......2007-04-12

I bought Ken Henderson's Guru's Guide to T-SQL a few years back and was extremely impressed with it. It was a "How-to-do-it" book with a 1001 good practical ideas that the hard-work database programmer could use immediately.

I bought this book because I am now working more with the topics that are supposed to be covered by this book, Stored Procedures, XLM, and HTML. I was impressed with how his first book had quickly and easily improved my skills and was interested in seeing what he could do for me in the new arena. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

In spite of the titles, the two books are barely related to each other. This book is a "why-you-do-it-this-way" book with a lot of philosophy and best-practice stuff and relatively few of the tips and tricks that I valued so highly in the first book. Unfortunately this information isn't that valuable now because the state of the art has kept changing and much of what he discusses either isn't relevant anymore or is now blindingly obvious.

But the problem with the book goes deeper than that. The extraordinary value of the first book was that it hit to Ken Henderson's strengths; very clear writing about very small topics with obvious and immediate payback for the reader. This book unfortunately tends to emphasize his weaknesses; poor organization, wandering off topic, and frequently saying too much that adds very little.

That's not to say that there aren't good reasons to buy this book, he's still a good clear author and there aren't enough of them in the technical writing field today. I particularly valued the essays at the end of the book and there are lots of valuable little nuggets that can be found throughout the entire book, just don't buy this book with the expectation that it will be the motherlode that his first book was.

4 out of 5 stars A lot of the information relates to older release of SQL server.......2006-08-14

This book would be fantastic if I would still run an older release of the SQL server ... and the stored procedures part is still very relevant. The XML and HTML parts (where I've expected most) unfortunately do not cover the new abilities of the SQL Server 2005, so I guess we just have to wait for a new release of this book.

5 out of 5 stars Best Book for Hoardcore SQL Server.......2006-03-20

This book is for experienced SQL developers. No fancy stuff. I found it very useful, since you will find lot of material you won't find anywhere else. It can be a good source for those who tries to handle SQL Server administration by not using Enterprise manager (such doing a backup, reindexing databases etc.). But in any case it's a very good addition to your library. Great job by Ken Anderson.

5 out of 5 stars This is the book for SQL Developers/DBAs.......2005-03-26

I have about $2000 worth of the book on asp.net, cfml, Microsoft SQL server, Oracle DB book, and other tech related books. Most of the books I had are poorly written and the authors are trying to make "quick buck". This book is very well written and in-depth of Microsoft SQL Server. Highly recommanded!

              5 out of 5 stars Essential.......2005-03-18

This book is essential for those building solutions with Sql Svr. It is really a developer's take on how to create applications based on the world's best database. There are chapters on database design, source code control, design patterns, testing, and many, many others. The SqlXml info is the deepest and best of any of the SQl books I have found. I highly recommend this book.
