I went through the whole book trying to find usefull information, but infortunately, it's a book filled with definitions. I didn't find any value, or I don't think can bring anything to developer, except may to none technical manager who wants to sound technical.
I am a bit annoyed that in 2005 still authors, write books about denitions, without any clear porpuse.

              Product Description

The world of today's call center manager is fast paced and increasingly globally focused. “Call Center Management – Paradigmas Covergentes” is an exploration of the five disciplines that make up the life of a Customer Care professional. Through a global and multi-disciplined approach to the subject, the mission of this book is to paint a fresh portrait of the subject, a mosaic of shared experiences --- subtle, deep, positive, negative, and -- why not -- anecdotal – that give account of a world in constant growth and change. A fresh look, painted as a portrait both intellectual and experiential, without forgetting the key ingredient that buoys each one of the professionals of this industry: the passion for excellence.

Many have written lyrically about the wonders of golf in Scotland and its inherent magic, which is the focus of the second half of Michael Bamberger's lovely ode to the game. But it's the book's first half that makes it as essential as a putter for anyone willing to go deeper into golf's heart. Here, Bamberger explores the eternal mystery of golf: "More than any other athlete, the professional golfer looks normal; his physical ordinariness is a ubiquitous reminder of our limitations. So what makes him so special?" He searches for his answers the hard way: he lugs a golf bag around for a season as a caddie on the European tour. Even if the golfing grail he sought remains elusive, his narrative drives straight into the game's psyche through a colorful, witty, and poignant portrait of his months on the fairways with Peter Teravainen, the practicing Buddhist, Yale-graduate journeyman grinder whose bag he toted.

                    Book Description

“One of the best golf-travel books ever written... The book reminds us that the game of golf has many treasures yet to be discovered.” —Michael Murphy, author of Golf in the Kingdom

Published to universal acclaim a decade ago, To the Linksland is the story of Michael Bamberger's search for golfing nirvana in Europe, from the rough-and-tumble courses of the Continent to the hallowed fairways of Scotland. In 1991 Bamberger, a lifelong golfer whose game had stagnated, quit his sportswriting job and went to Europe with his wife in search of the true soul of golf. He first caddies for transplanted New Englander Peter Teravainen, whose odd behavior and erratic play gives Bamberger insight into the infinitesimal differences between a good player and a successful professional. After caddying in the Scottish Open, Bamberger remains behind to study the game in its homeland. While being mentored by an aged Scottish golf guru and playing on some of the world's oldest and most storied courses, Bamberger at last comes to understand the game at a deeper, intuitive level and begins to play the best golf of his life.

Featuring a new afterword in which the author returns to the courses he played, To the Linksland is a lively travel narrative that is also an homage to the history and legacies of the game, a triumphant journey to the very heart and soul of golf.

5 out of 5 stars A Book to Reread Often.......2007-02-06

Before he undertook the real world of work and marriage, Michael Bamberger embarked on his own golfing journey, first signing on as caddy for an idiosyncratic European Tour journeyman, then pursuing his own golfing muse in Scotland. In a relatively slim volume, Bamberger captures and conveys the feel of the European Tour and its personalities, from the literate caddy's point of view; and his own experience with a legendary teacher is no less than a love letter to the birthplace of golf. You will reread it often to remind yourself why golf is a wonderful game, like any love affair equal measures of rapture and despair. And you will make gifts of it to your friends, because Bamberger says it all as we wish we could.

5 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Ever Read.......2006-04-23

The best book I've ever read -- not just the best golf book. If you're a hardcore golfer, this book will touch your soul and give you the chills -- and leave you burning to play more golf.

5 out of 5 stars A golf book for all readers.......2005-09-25

I am a woman and a beginning golfer, but I am married to someone who has played since he was ten. We just returned from a trip to Scotland. I took this book to read since I saw that it had chapters on several courses that my husband planned to play.
I was quite literally swept away by the beautiful writing, something I had not expected in such a book. I found myself reading passages aloud to my husband because I wanted to share Bamberger's insights. He touches on the psychological, and, dare I say, mystical underpinnings of golf. He yearns to find lessons for living a more fulfilling life through the search for excellence. I found myself rooting for Michael as he leaves his caddy job on the European tour to pursue his dream.
Who hasn't yearned to follow a dream? Bamberger does just that for seven months and he lets us tag along.
This is a book for anyone who aspires to improve, whether it be a golf swing or a craft. It uses golf to show us a way to approach life.
                    Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Light Read for the Golf Fan.......2005-08-26

This is a solid book for the hardcore golf reader. The author takes a leave of absence from his regular journalism job to "search for the primal heart of golf," combining the two common "golf road book" genera in one slim volume: (1) my life as a pro tour caddy; and (2) how I found religion playing the links courses of Scotland. Fortunately, Bamberger is an excellent writer and storyteller, and the pages fly by.

                      Book Description

Tells the colorful story of how the two most visible branches of American celebrity--the presidency and Hollywood--came together in a marriage of pop culture and politics.

U.S. presidents and Hollywood have had a mutual admiration society that extends far back into history. In Celebrity-in-Chief, journalist Alan Schroeder contends that each camp has influenced the other--particularly over the past century--creating a president who no longer stands apart upon a remote civic pedestal, isolated from Hollywood and pop culture. Instead, the powerful forces of the American celebrity circus drag him into the tent and ask him to put on a show. The job of president has always been politically demanding, but now there is another requirement: to exude star quality. In the parlance of Hollywood, he must "fill the frame." Drawing upon a wealth of fascinating anecdotes about some of the most celebrated individuals in American history, Schroeder shows how a succession of presidents since Woodrow Wilson has put on a show with mixed results. Whether is was Bill Clinton apologizing to the nation for an adulterous affair or George W. Bush boasting of faithfulness to his wife, Celebrity-in-Chief entertainingly and convincingly shows that the result is a wholesale demystification of the office--and that this marriage of pop culture and the presidency will continue to fascinate and endure.

3 out of 5 stars Falls Short- but interesting at times.......2006-06-22

Alan Schroeder has written a compelling book highlighting the intermingling, balancing, and out right using that celebrities and presidents engage in with each other. The work is neatly divided into twelve chapters. The first five chapters are especially relevant for examining the relationship between presidents and pop culture. They are respectively entitled: Gilt by Association: How Entertainers are Good for Presidents, Attack of the Cat Woman: How Entertainers are Bad for the Presidents, Hope Springs Eternal: How Presidents are Good for Entertainers, Glad to Be Unhappy: How Presidents are Bad for Entertainers and Running Time, Entertainers on the Campaign Trail. Combined, these chapters represent the main achievement of the book by surveying the relationships between actors ,singers and presidents across time. At the end of the introduction, Schroeder aptly characterizes the depth and scope of America's infatuation with greatness: "Americans recognize only two branches of royalty: presidents and entertainers. Celebrity-in-Chief examines what happens when these aristocrats join forces."

Gilt by Association highlights numerous successful pairings of celebrities and presidents. In one telling example, actor Chuck Connors from The Rifleman was able to make a strong connection with Soviet Premier Leonid Brezhnev. President Nixon had invited Connors and numerous other stars to Casa Pacifica to meet the Soviet leaders. Connors even presented a cowboy hat and a pair of matching Colt .45 revolvers to Brezhnev. Later in the day, Brezhnev returned the favor with a big bear hug and an invitation for Connors to film in Russia. Schroeder summarizes the meaning of the encounter: "Nixon seemed pleased by having engineered the Connors-Brezhnev shotgun diplomacy, and why not? Another celebrity had come through for the president, making a human connection that Nixon could not make himself." (22-23) Nixon with virtually unlimited access to the stars opposite influence seeking stars that come to help the president, are common themes throughout the work.

However, not all celebrities are good for politicians. As Schroeder points out, we only need to harken back to LBJ's Cat Woman problem or Bill Clinton's so called "Lincoln Bedroom scandal." Further, Schroeder relates story after story about individual celebrities and presidents. Whether it was a pathetic Elvis Presley requesting a drug enforcement badge, or Sammy Davis Jr. shunned by Kennedy, or an angry Frank Sinatra smashing his helicopter pad upon learning President Kennedy was visiting Bing Crosby instead of him, the celebrities are there and so are the presidents, for better or for worse.

Schroeder argues that Presidents are celebrities in their own right. They have crossed the line into the realm of the highly recognizable personage, replete with power. Similar to the infatuation of the masses with movie stars, the public is in complete awe of a sitting president. They are the ultimate entertainer, the ultimate power and the most visible person in the world. Actors, and other celebrities, want to associate with this power, as do presidents with entertainers, as power meets power to further all ends.

This book certainly highlights many telling, interesting and funny anecdotes of presidents and entertainers. However, this doesn't mean the work successfully argues a point of view. What was clear, is that the author views both parties as celebrities seeking fame, relevance and the trappings of greater power and influence. What is not clear from this work is how celebrities can influence public policy or presidents to take a certain path. Certainly, it is interesting reading to hear about the President Kennedy's linkages with various paramours, but that in of itself does not prove anything other than Kennedy was a philander who had access to the stars. Did it hurt his ability to pursue his agenda? Did these trysts influence his policy making? Granted, these questions may be outside of the scope of this work but they are relevant if this book is going contribute anything more to the historical record than a bunch of old People magazines can.

3 out of 5 stars The performers in theWhite House........2004-07-12

Our recent presidents have been celebrities in different ways, some in music, acting, scholars, military geniuses, former governors of states in these U. S. A.

Mainly this book, compiled by Alan Schroeder (has quite a lengthy index of sources he used), relates the influence of show business on politics from the top on down. Harry Truman played piano passably and had a talented daughter, Margaret; he is shown performing with Jack Benny on the violin.

Richard Nixon also played the piano and even performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, TN He invited Elvis Presley to the White House. Bill Clinton played the saxophone somewhat and was the butt of jokes on several t.v. shows. He promoted Barbra Streisand because she was a favorite of his dear Mother's. He also invited United Artists' producer Mike Medavoy to the White House and allowed him to sit in the chair there in the Oval Office and he and his wife spent the night there.

Ronald Reagan should have the title of "celebrity" pres. but I think the title really goes to John F. Kennedy. He went all out to seduce movie stars with the assistance of his brother-in-law, actor Peter Lawford. He had an association with Frank Sinatra at the same time Sinatra was sharing a mistress with a Mafia leader. Politics are indeed strange bedfellows.

Dwight Eisenhower welcomed Robert Montgomery and the pianist, Liberace, to the White House as he did his favorite (and mine) singer, Eddie Fisher, who sang 'Count Your Blessings.' Eddie also sang with a group of other male celebrities, 'Together' to JFK, as did his favorite, Marilyn Monroe.

Gerald Ford, the non-President, only one to not be voted in by the populace, favored comedians off t.v. shows and John Wayne who narrated a fabulous collaboration to America and her people. He also like Carol Channing for some reason.

Jimmy Carter, the scholar and chaste one, is shown with John Travolta who went on many years later to play a Presidential candidate in the movies.

The moviedom out in California have always had a say in politics of this great nation. Hearst who built that marvelous mansion along Route 1 for his movie star, Marion Davises, owned the newspapers which could make or break a candidate.

These are interesting ancedotes naming some big names. The photos are good. My favorite was of the thirty-two Hollywood stars who posed with Eleanor Roosevelt in 1940. Have things changed? Is L.A. still a dominant influence on the nation's politics and our leaders who must represent all states, not just one.

                      4 out of 5 stars Entertaining.......2004-03-24

This book is a sweeping look at 20th century presidents and show-biz stars. Each chapter introduces a theme ("Celebrities can be good for Presidents," "Celebrities can be bad for Presidents," etc.), and then examines the theme president by president, in a systematic (often chronological) order. Each chapter can stand alone, and each president's section in a chapter can stand alone. In short, much of the book reads like snippets from a newspaper style section or People magazine. The number of big names per page in the book may be unprecedented. Schroeder keeps his own insights appropriately light, and all the antecdotes about (mainly) FDR to W. Bush have a cumulative effect on themes; charisma helps power, "co-stars" affect image, circuses are as important as bread, social events are diplomacy, popularity is king....

Most sections are dedicated to the leaders who appealed to celebrities: FDR, JFK, Clinton. And to the former celebrity, Reagan.... And Nixon with Sammy, and his enemies list... Okay, lots of presidents are covered well :-). Schroeder's book is excellent for a great overview of Presidents and stars (with subtext on media relations and mass psychology) over the last 100 years... in a way that actually altered my concept of time. (You mean Kennedy was only 20 years after FDR? That's like Reagan '84 to Bush '04 -- that's not that long! And Bob Hope went all the way to back then? And Lauren Bacall was hot! Not too long ago!). I know it's basic math, but Schroeder's deft moves through the familiar players and decades makes the "distant" past seem very tangible. And the book is fresh, covering the after effects of 9/11, and even the governorship of Arnold S. For fans of U.S. politics, this book is a quick, fun read. Also try "Power and Glitter"... after Schroeder's book, which is better :-). Peace out!

4 out of 5 stars Washington and Hollywood: Locked In A Mutual Embrace.......2004-03-01

For more than a century, presidents of the United States and Hollywood have been involved in a complicated, interdependent relationship. Sometimes the two have embraced each other with mutual affection (Franklin Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Bill
Clinton) and sometimes the relationship has been more arms-length (Dwight Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, the two George Bushes), but, as Alan Schroeder makes clear in this book, the two have developed a mutual dependence on each other.

Anyone who has followed politics and popular culture in recent decades will recall many of the incidents chronicled between these pages, but there is also much that hasn't been well-known previously. Did you know, for instance, that the relationship between Hollywood and the White House extends as far back as Woodrow Wilson's administration? Or than Dwight Eisenhower was the first president to make regular use of a media consultant (actor Robert Montgomery)? Marilyn Monroe singing "Happy Birthday" to JFK or Nixon meeting Elvis may provide the most enduring images in our collective memories; but as Schroeder makes clear, the reality of these relationships is often more subtle and complex. Presidents look toward Hollywood for a luster they might otherwise lack; stars are drawn toward the White House in hopes of gaining a degree of substance and credibility they can't claim on their own.

Today, some Americans still decry the relationship between politics and show business. While Schroeder offers no definitive conclusions, his work helps us to see that the two will always be interdependent; perhaps we should be instead asking how to make the partnership more beneficial to the public good and insure that there's substance behind the glitter.--William C. Hall

Christmas. Its short but the pictures
are lovely. It is poetic and nice to
read. Although it is *lite* it just
                      looks good.

This is a great guide to growing this most medicinal plants. There are several close-up photos where you feel like you are sitting right on a branch of the plant. It is about time there was a book on gardening the natural way -- out of the closet and into the yard. Give the plants sunlight rather than electricity. This slim book explain's much about the plant's needs and even how to make seeds for next year's garden.

Perhaps the next edition will be better. There is some information on the Croatan in here, yes, but this is supposed to be a tribebook about the Wendigo! The detail and scope of this book is so limited compared to some of the other tribebooks. It reads like it was rushed to print, in order to get it out of print so they could sell the next Litany compilation. I wish I'd never bought this one.

Can we say "rush job", boys and girls?

White Wolf is ending its WoD line, and as such they need to get the last couple Tribe- and Tradition- books out ASAP before their respective lines come to a close. That said, the Wendigo Tribebook had a couple of easily noticable problems, all relating to what was no doubt a rush to get the book out before February. Sloppy writing shows sentences missing words or conjunctions, such that you had to stare for a minute or two to make sense of things here and there. Also, whole paragraphs were sometimes used more than once. In a 100 page book, you're going to notice if the exact same commentary gets reused twenty pages after the first time you read it. There was also a bit of confusion as the bios in the back of the book of Wendigo heroes flipped back and forth between a third- and first-person perspective.

As distracting as these sorts of things are, though, the information contained therein does a very good job of expanding on the Wendigo tribe, its bitterness, and narrowminded pursuit of purity of mind against the corruptions (as they see them) of all the other tribes. Not quite an improvement on the previous edition, this book is at least as good as that one, and most of it's problems were hampered by something that any published material should try its best to avoid: bad editing.

What I particularly like about this book is it's 'real world' feel - Logic Pro has vast functionality, but the author hones in on a few fairly simple ways of doing things, as opposed to going through every feature. I would like to have seen more emphasis on mixing/production, but that's minor - this book can't be everything.

My only beef with with the book is the banal tracks you use with the tutorial. If you are into that kind of go-nowhere take-yourself-too-seriously rockpop that hasn't changed in three decades, fine - but this sort of music doesn't show off Logic's major differentiator - it's synths and the newer styles of music that use them.

This is a goodf book. But the lessions were not as fun as they could have been. But if you want content and relative ease of understanding, it here.

I've read better learning books, though.

Being a long time Logic user, i still happen to not utilize the App to it's fullest. What I like about this book, is the Structure, with the chapters and the Tasks to fulfill. So it get's me closer to a streamlined workflow.

Very good for beginners, or more experienced users who are switching to Logic from another platform. The lessons are very basic, but they provide the backbone of how Logic works, and help speed up the workflow quickly. Recommended.
