This book is riddled with references to God, church, and the Bible. That isn't really my cup of tea, and I was very surprised - there wasn't anything about a religious basis on the outside of the book. And I'm not so sure about their claim that all depression is caused by being stuck in a stage of unresolved grief.
Easy to understand.......2004-07-22
I bought this book on an impulse. I have family with ADD and manic depression. I read through the book in 2 days, because it was so easy to read and understand. The author does a lot of explaining that makes sense to me and it fits my family members who suffer from depression. This book turned a light on in my brain as to the "why, who and how comes" of depression. I am buying more of these to give as gifts. I recommend this to those who have loved ones who suffer and for those who suffer the pain of depression. It's not a cure, it's a door being opened.

This book is written with the Christian in mind. People who struggle with mood swings will find a wealth of information and ideas on how to approach the problem. A terrific book that will make a great addition to any library!

This book was recommended to me by my physician. He wanted me to learn about different types of depression, their causes, and possible treatments. I read the review here and thought, "Well, I can take a little Christianity along with the psychologically helpful information the book will provide."
Boy, was I wrong! This book is a little bit of the basic psychology of depression and a bunch of Christian propaganda along with it...
This book ended up making me more depressed than before I read it. It's depressing to think that the majority of our country is populated with people who share his biased opinions about humanity.

Yes- a paperback of this is good.......2007-01-09
I really enjoyed reading "Complicated" but this book didn't have quite the same tone as complicated. It was still well written, but a little maudlin. I like to have a break from feeling low myself, and I think people DO read to escape, therefore, I can't say all that much was wrong with the book. It just wasn't a clear picture like Toews' other book was.

Book doing a good job in sumaring what a website should do to work.......2007-06-09
Although obviously too basic for web developers and people working on the Net day-in-day-out because of its simplification of web design, it does work as a complete sumary of what a sucessful website should have in design terms for anyone who would like to get started at a serious level. It does a pretty good job at doing precisely that and little else, but its clarity helps to simplify and put all the necessary pieces into perspective. It makes pretty good emphasis in Accesibility which I find it is a very important thing to always remember when designing for the whole WWW without leaving anyone behind. Easy and fast to read, it will give you a good bird's eye view before getting started designing your website.
Unique features to this Guide.......2006-07-09
This is a nice source for those of us who wonder how traditional print style guidelines apply to the web. Unlike many other books on web style which cover more of the visual aspects of putting web pages/sites together, this guide provides a solid reference on how to communicate your CONTENT to a web audience, in a format that suits the medium.

If you're fairly inexperienced on the internet, and you don't know what "Classic three-column layout" means, then you should buy this book. If you do know what that means, you are probably familiar with the majority of the topics covered in this book. I did not find that the time I spent reading this was well spent because it is very basic. Don't expect too much magic to come off the pages.
A concise and structured functional overview of Web Design!.......2004-10-28
In less than 220 pages, this book covers the functional aspects of Web design in a well structured and concise manner. In that sense, it is tailor made for the project manager with all essential elements and no superfluous details. You will become familiar with: interface design, site design, page design, typography, editorial style, Web graphics and multimedia.
Your specific work environment will dictate if you need additional Web design knowledge. At the management level, this book will probably provide all you need to know. At the Web production level, you will obtain a global understanding allowing you to properly select specific areas to further your level of knowledge.
The technically oriented or the novice should first acquire some basic knowledge of Web Publishing (HTML, Web graphics, servers, browsers, etc.) to make the best use of this book. As a suggestion, the book entitled "Learning Web Design" by Jennifer Niederst (ISBN 0-596-00484-2) is an excellent starting point.
