Book Description
Almost every company in the international trade business has agents and/or distributors abroad, and is concerned with the management of these networks. Multinational Distribution is a clear, concise, step-by-step manual describing how to acquire distributors and agents, negotiate agreements with them, evaluate their effectiveness, and manage the many legal and technical problems arising from these arrangements. In addition, the author provides guidelines for dealing with legal matters such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and for dealing with political problems between countries. Sample agreements are provided, as well as detailed explanations of different financing and collection arrangements.

An old tattered book that we still use after 12 years........1998-10-11
This is one of the best presentations on how to build and maintain an international sales network that I have ever seen. We have four copies in our office and all of them are still being used by our consulting staff. We refer to it whenever we lose site of what it takes to maintain a profitable multinational sales force. John R. Jagoe, Director, Export Institute

The United States and Latin America: Myths and Stereotypes of Civilization and Nature
ASIN: 029274031X |
Book Description
". . . one of the most important books in recent years on hemisphere relations. . . . A bold work that could scarcely have been conceived until recently, Latin America in Caricature is a product of the climate of raised consciousness that has made many privileged white males aware of the hollowness of the stereotypes they have concocted to rationalize domination over Blacks, women, and other purportedly less-than-rational beings--stereotypes that they then projected southward so as to justify their assumed rights of hegemony in the hemisphere." --fredrick b. pike, hispanic american historical review "Not many readers will thank the author as he deserves, for he has told us more about ourselves than we perhaps wish to know," predicted Latin America in Books of Latin America in Caricature--an exploration of more than one hundred years of hemispheric relations through political cartoons collected from leading U.S. periodicals from the 1860s through 1980. The cartoons are grouped according to recurring themes in diplomacy and complementing visual imagery. Each one is accompanied by a lengthy explanation of the incident portrayed, relating the drawing to public opinion of the day. Johnson's thoughtful introduction and the comments which precede the individual chapters provide essential background for understanding U.S. attitudes and policies toward Latin America.
Customer Reviews:
A unique book, as entertaining as it is informative........1999-07-17
This book genuinely deserves a 5-star rating. Johnson not only gives fine insights into the nature of US stereotypes about Latin America/ns, he provides dozens of samples of a key source: editorial cartoons from US newspapers. They both intentionally & unintentionally reveal our prejudices & preconceptions about the regions & peoples who share the Western Hemisphere with us. The book has a sound introduction, but the heart of it is the cartoons themselves, which appear on odd-numbered pages with 1/2 to 1-page commentary opposite. These commentaries are essential to the book's success, because they give context to many old cartoons which are otherwise as obscure as the long-ago events they depict. The emphasis is on major episodes in US-Latin American relations (Spanish-Cuban-Philippine-American War; Mexican Revolution; Good Neighbor Policy; Castro's Cuba, etc.). While the cartoons are overtly political to a great extent, Johnson's accompanying analyses skilfully reveal the cultural, ethnic & racial essentialism underpinning our perceptions of Latin America. Many readers will be surprised to learn how deep are the roots of such attitudes. Less surprisingly, the images, which have both influenced & reflected US attitudes, mostly portray negative stereotypes, but even these have varied over time with the shifting course of events. This book would be an outstanding text to use in a general Latin American Studies class, and also in courses on US-Latin American foreign relations. It is hardly a dryasdust academic treatise, & would be enjoyed by interested members of the general public. However, it could also be supplemented by works with a fuller discussion of the topic, such as Frederick Pike, "The United States and Latin America: Myths and Stereotypes of Civilization and Culture" (U of Texas Press, 1992).

Texas History Stories Activity Book
ASIN: 0876112319 |
Book Description
Many will remember Texas History Movies, a cartoon booklet that was distributed to Texas history students from the 1920s through the 1960s by Mobil Oil with its familiar Flying Red Horse logo.
For decades Texas History Movies taught thousands of school children the varied history of Texas, from Columbus to the discovery of oil. Though the original version is now considered racist, it was for many students their first and only taste of Texas history.
It is with great pride that the Texas State Historical Association announces the publication of our newest version of this timeless Texas history classic by the late Jack Jackson, award-winning scholar and illustrator. The New Texas History Movies is a totally revised edition with new cartoon strips and text by Jackson. Jackson gained fame as an underground cartoonist in the 1960s and, later, as an independent scholar who specialized in the history of the Spanish presence in Texas.
Jack took much pride in this revision, for the original Texas History Movies was a great inspiration to him. As Jackson states in the afterword, it was his objective "to create a 'time-machine' effect that would make readers feel like they were there when the events occurred." He hoped that his "rendition of the old classic, Texas History Movies, would 'grab' a few young minds and make them want to learn more about the interesting people and events briefly touched on in this booklet." It could almost be said that Jack's love for Texas history began with Texas History Movies; and it is fitting that his work has come full circle with his rendition of this enduring Texas history classic.
An Educator's Edition with additional content by Jana Magruder is available to help teachers incorporate this book into the seventh-grade curriculum. The TEKS-based guide contains activities and TAKS-based assessments for each chapter. It is designed to facilitate interdisciplinary connections between history and language arts teachers while building student skills in reading, writing, and social studies. Included in this Educator's Edition is a CD-ROM containing the materials necessary for easy classroom use.
Book Description
Using an easy-to-read and entertaining method, cartoons give a basic overview of Texas history from dinosaurs to the military leaders in the Second World War. Section one includes early Indians and Spaniards, filibusters, and empresarios.

In a format that is as entertaining as it is informative.......2001-02-27
Originally a weekly featured for the Dallas Morning News between 1995 and 2000 called "Texas Lore", Patrick Reynolds' A Cartoon History Of Texas is a unique and superbly presented overview of Texas history ranging from its earliest years of Native Americans and the Spaniards down to modern times. From land pirates to real estate agents, pioneers to the Dallas Cowboys, the people, places and events that comprise the history of Texas are showcased in a format that is as entertaining as it is informative.

Texas History Can be Fun.......2004-01-23
I received a free copy of this book in grade school, circa 1946. I was surprised to find it still in print. An invaluable aid in the study of Texas history.
Its Texas history in the form of strip cartoons. It's quite entertaining and reasonably accurate.
Texas history movies.......2000-05-07
This book was essential for my short attention span. My father got it for me in sixth grade and it made my way through the otherwise laborious path through Texas history not only bearable but a really fun adventure.

Customer Reviews:
Indeed, there's better stuff out there.......2007-10-03
As a dutch expat, this book was given to me by friends as a joke. I read it, and was severely disappointed. As has been stated before, the authors try so hard to be funny and give an accurate description of the Dutch, that they fail on both accounts. I did laugh on occasion, but all in all I found this book pretty pathetic. I don't mind at all looking at my own country with critical eyes, as long as the information is correct. Unfortunately, in this book, it isn't.
The Low Sky (Han van der Horst) is much better at describing the Dutch. So, if you're really interested in Dutch culture, by that book.If you are looking for a book to tell you something about where to go and what to see while in Amsterdam, buy the Lonely Planet.
For those among you who read Dutch books: Retourtjes Nederland by Simon Kuper. This is an interesting book about the changes that have taken place in the Netherlands over the last few years.
Funny book for expats living in Holland.......2007-09-17
I'm very happy with this book. I lived and worked in the Netherlands for 6 months and reading this book after being there is very funny! Everything that I criticized is written in this book but in a very funny way! I recommend this book to everyone that is going to live in the Netherlands for more than one month and to everyone that lived or still lives there. Hilarious!
Reason for laughter!.......2007-09-06
As a dutch woman, being married to an american man, this book came in very handy! For my husband it was a tool that gave him much needed information about the dutch culture and habits that made him think how we could function without losing our minds. To me, it was a reason for lots of hysterical laughter throughout the book. The descriptions and details are amazing and so very true, but the reason they made me laugh is because I never thought of them being typically dutch. If you get a view of yourself through the eyes of an american, it can be quite an eye opener. I highly recommend this book!
Great Book!.......2007-08-17
I read this book when I first met my now husband. I laughed threwout the whole book and was really curious about amny other things..like the toilet situation! Well 2 1/2 years later we are living in the netherlands! I have to say the book does hold true to many things it has said and although it takes some getting used to..dutch people are wonderful. You have to be open minded when you come here or you wont enjoy it. I jumped when I first saw the toliet with a shelf on it flush!LOL I was taken back when I had to pay to go to the bathroom and loved how you were left alone to talk and visit while in a resturant..no waitress shoving a check in your face and asking if you need anything else every 5 mins. Yep I do love it here..I miss my american mayonaise though and different flavored sodas..no rootbeer! Anyway, visit here..it's beautiful,so many things to see and do and wonderful foods to try!
Tongue in cheek.......2007-08-12
This book was a recommended to us by a citizen of the Netherlands as a means of gaining a better understanding of her country. At first, I was confused by the writer's style until I realized it was a very tongue-in-cheek description of the country. I found it most helpful in separating facts from legends of the country and its people. If read in conjunction with a more serious book "Culture Shock" by Hunt Janin & Ria van Eil, it should prepare you as much as you can to visit the a culture not your own.

Book Description
The media "star" has become a powerful, almost unparalleled, cultural sign, even as the star system has undergone radical transformation since the era of the Hollywood studio system. Today's film industry continues to market and promote its products through actors in ways that seek to capture the often elusive quality that a "star" can embody. Using contemporary stars such as Robert De Niro, Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Dennis Hopper, this anthology of essays applies a variety of theoretical tools in its attempt to understand how we interpret stars, and how we can begin to understand their cultural significance. Likewise, the study explores how the star system has become an increasingly complex phenomenon within society at large, extending its impact beyond the cinema into music, sports, and fashion. Many of the essays collected here consider this shift and examine how personae including the director (Sam Peckinpah), the royalty (Princess Diana) and even the digital star (Lara Croft) have captured the cultural imagination and have come to attain qualities as star-like as those of the silver screen.

Amazing Optical Illusions
ASIN: 0806975997 |
Book Description
You won't believe your eyes--and you shouldn't! Every image in this follow-up to the popular Optical Illusion Magic is out to fool your perception with afterimages, visual "traps," and distorted views. Sometimes you'll have to shift the page to see the magic, as in "Slants on the Side" where parallel lines seem to come together at the bottom and spread apart at the top. In other "tricks," pattern and shape make all the difference, producing spirals where they don't really exist. And there are a few really funny signs: look at them carefully and see if you can spot the errors. Bet you can't!
Book Description
Bringing together two areas of computer technology—networking and embedded systems—this developer's guide offers guidance and examples for each of these, with a focus on the special requirements and limits of embedded systems. Because developing an embedded system for networking requires knowledge from many areas, including circuit design, programming, network architecture, and Ethernet and Internet protocols, developers are given valuable technical information on each that can be put to use right away. Covered are the advantages and limits of using Ethernet to connect embedded systems in a local network, hardware and program code needed to connect an embedded system to an Ethernet network and the Internet, and how to build a network. Also discussed are how embedded systems can use TCP/IP and related protocols and how personal-computer applications can use the protocols to communicate with embedded systems. Developers will learn how their Web server's pages can include dynamic, real-time content and respond to user input.

Customer Reviews:
I wouldn't buy this book =(.......2007-06-27
After reading few pages of the book I felt my self as a fool because of being spent my money on it.
People outside US need to pay a lot more of shipping cost as well as to wait longer. I was waiting for the book very excited, but I got angry when reading it. I would say it is a kind of fraud. The book doesn't cover more than a good TCP tutorial on Internet, however you need to pay and wait for it.
The book is not "Internet complete". The book doesn't cover what internet is. It only mentions some aspects of building a net, but anything else. If you expect to read something about packets, datagrams and so on this is NOT the book for you. If you expect to learn something deeply about chips for LAN, this book is NOT for you. If you expect to know how each layer in the TCP/IP stack works this book is NOT for you. This book is for nothing.
The book is not "Embedded Ethernet". Actually I needed to pay about $50 US and wait 2 weeks just to hear "don't get in troubles, just buy a Rabbit kit, or if you like Java get the TINI card". I have cards for others architectures, but none of them. At this point I hope you may guess how I felt =( . If that is the author's idea of designing embedded systems I have a big problem.
I have some books about TCP/IP and Internet (english/spanish) that are each one far superior to this one, and cover more topics deeply. I use 8, 16 and 32 bits microcontrollers in which I want to implement a TCP/IP stack, that's way I bought the book, but I've just wasted my time and money.
My recomendation is DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. Try instead some tutorials in Internet, and you'll get better results and knowledges.
You got a good knowledge about ethernet reading this book.......2007-02-06
This book has a good understanding about ethernet protocol and hardware topics, the programming part on this network interface is something new for me and improve my knowledge on this matter.
I would call the book INcomplete.......2007-01-18
This book does talk a lot of things. But not in any details about the embedded design, or provide single "complete" embedded system design, from schematic to programming. It does have pieces from many different places, but none of them seems from one complete project. You can not use this book as a "complete" reference to build an embedded ethernet/Internet project.
The proper name after reading through the book should be "Basic Introductory of Ethernet and Internet to the embedded designer".
