Blew my socks off! Noir and dark. Fantastic dialog. A plot that twists and turns. The characters are too well devoloped to be a first time novelist's - reads more like a Leonard. I had to stay up all night to finish it! A must buy.

Anyone interested in the transition of the legal profession, particularly the world of the large law firms, from a gentleman's society of real collegiality and cruel cliques to a bottom-line driven business should read this moving and well-written account of the Finley, Kumble saga. Kumble's model was only off by a degree or two, and unfortunately for him those degrees including intolerable business and legal ethics. But his vision of building a national law firm by acquisition, marketing and brass-knuckled practice has become the norm in the world of the "AmLaw 100." Eisler's treatment of her former boss, Steve Brill, is decently even-handed. He is, after all, the man who pulled the curtains back and affected the instution of the institutional law firms forever.

This book has easily accessible information, really interesting stories, fabulous archival photographs, good insights into women golfers, and just the nicest TONE. Would be good for experienced golfers, for those just starting, and for those who might enjoy reading about the history of the sport from the distaff side. A good book to read when you're waiting for someone else to finish a round, or to inspire you to get out there and swing that club!

I've read this book twice and will read again. The instruction flows just like an enjoyable novel. Definitely a great book worth reading twice.

Not a good book for a beginner.......2003-05-21

I got this book thinking it would be good for a beginning golfer. I was very disappointed. The concepts were much too difficult for a beginning golfer or just not well written or communicated to the reader. The illustrations weren't helpful either. A much better book for beginners would be the Golf Handbook for Women by Vivien Saunders.

GreatTitle - Great Book.......2003-04-25

After reading Ms. Horn's Power Golf for Women I becamed hooked. I tend to slightly favor Golf is a Woman's Game however, it's a coin toss. You can't go wrong with either of these books and I will be looking for a third. Great reading, excellent instruction and tells it "like it is" for the female golfer. Five stars all the way.

Excellent instructional book.......2002-09-01

In another review I read that this is William Jefferson Clinton's favorite golf book. You know since he has left the presidency he has a pretty good swing. Though I feel sorry for the guy because no one believes his scores, as a result he will probably never be accepted as a credible golfer.

Now to this book. No I do not believe golf is a woman's game. It is no ones game. The game is equally brutal to us all. However, I do applaud the author for writing an excellent instructional manual that is also a very pleasant read.
The author believes golf is a woman's game because women (compared to men) lack physical strength so their bodies naturally accomodate for difference through the use of technique. She has a sub-chapter called the effiency ratio where she discusses the amount of physical strength vs distance and she explains that the swings efficacy not the distance the ball travels represents a good golf swing.
A very good book that reveals a lot of myths and one that is definitely worth reading.

And as for William Jefferson, I believe you and keep swinging... it's looking good.

La Montana Magica is a book that everybody interested in literature should read. I enjoy the characters and their profound psychology.
I recommend this book definitely.

This novel works like a huge and beautiful testimony of the years before the Great War in Europe. It transcends the limits of the genre and becomes a great Encyclopedia full of fascinating characters, archetypes and allegories. The intelectual battle between Naphta and Settembrini (the religious and social view between the liberal and individualistic perspective) is, maybe, the most perfect chronicle of a philosophical and political controversy that hasn't end yet.
At the end we all scream with the chilling scene of the duel and cry with Hans Castorp`s fate.

A useful book but..........2003-06-16

Similar to Green Ronin's other D20 Pocket Grimoires, this book compiles many of the existing magic items (swords, rings, wands, potions, etc...) from various existing D20 publications, to include the Dungeon Masters Guide, Arms and Armor, Spells and Spellcraft, Spells and Magic, Traps and Treachery, Hammer and Helm: a Guidebook to the Dwarves, and other less than main stream publications or web pages. However, this book only seems to contain that information which is governed by the open gaming liscence. Therefore many useful magic items from Sword and Sorcery (Relics and Rituals 1 & 2), Monte Cook's Eldrich Might books and the various Forgotten Realms books are not included. In addition, with Version 3.5 of Dungeons and Dragons having a release date of July 2003, many of these items may change under the new rules. Overall, this book is currently useful and the more obscure magic items offer the addition of something new to an existing campaign, hence the 3 stars.

Perfect but needs more code.......2007-05-09

The book is the best 3D math book i have readen. The 3D math concepts explained simply and intelligibly. WARNING! You should know algebra, trigonometry to be able to read the book fluently! The absent one star is for: The book is independent of a well-known graphic API such as DirectX and OpenGL. The codes are standard c++ codes. Someone can like this, but me NOT. In my opinion, the 3D Math books for game development should select a proper graphic API and explain the concepts with these codes clearly. Because the real-world practise with knowledge is more stronger then just knowledge!

Good book for starters.......2007-03-24

Im programming a flash 3D engine from scratch. I dont use most of the concepts in this book, but I do need to understand whats going on. Trigonometry, vectors, points, matrices, operations, eulers, etc. and this book has been really helpful covering that.

Other books in the subject go straight to more complex issues skipping the contents from this book, so this is a must have unless you have a strong base already.

Great (Re)Introduction to Basic Concepts.......2007-02-08

I hadn't seen much math or geometry since high school, but this book does a great job at easing you into the underlying concepts of some pretty heavy stuff. I tried to wade through the CG "bibles" ("Real Time Rendering", "Principles of Computer Graphics in C") and quickly realized that if you're not either a CG major in college or an experienced CG pro, those books are like being in heavy seas without a life vest. (It really makes you appreciate what's involved in making those Pixar movies!)

Anyway, what I like about this book is that it explains everything first in fairly simple mathematical terms, deriving equations and proofs as it goes, and then illustrates to you visually exactly what is happening.

The majority of the material is conceptual. This is not a coding book from which you can pull easy answers. The code samples are in C++ and are confined to a few special chapters, and are really included as a programmatic interpretation of those concepts.

If you're already a CG pro, don't bother. You probably know all the info herein from the top of your head, as well as having one of those other "bibles" on your desk! But for a RAD programmer who needs a quick handle on some of the underlying concepts, this is the book!

Room for improvement.......2007-02-07

I have read and studied this book up through the end of Chapter 9 (More on Matrices) so far. My overall impression is that this is a good book and you will learn from it; however, I do have suggestions.

(1) Each chapter ends with exercises. There ought to be a section at the end of the book for the exercise solutions.

(2) The explanation of projecting one vector onto another on page 61 in Chapter 5 is poor. Also, the notation the authors use is awkward. If you would like to see a much better explanation of this topic see, "Mathematics for 3D Game Programming & Computer Graphics," chapter 1, page 19 (the mathematics book is a tougher read but is definitely a good second source).

(3) Chapter 7 is titled, "Introduction to Matrices" which is well explained but leaves the reader wondering, "How on Earth are these tables of numbers useful and how are they used?!" The first paragraph states, "... they are primarily used to describe the relationship between two coordinate spaces." That's nice but nearly a complete waste of ink. That would be like going to a car dealership where the car you want to see is on the back lot but before you can go see it the salesman hands you a brochure that contains nothing but tables of numbers that mathematically describe the shape of the car. He says, "Hey, check out this baby!" And you say, "Duh! Just SHOW ME the car please!" Give us a short concise example -- a visual please and then tell us how it works.

(4) Chapter 9.3, Orthogonal Matrices, contains this statement, "... orthogonal matrices arise so frequently in practice in 3D graphics." But the authors do not provide an example. You would think that if it were such a frequent occurrence that it would merit an example.

If I had it to do over again I would purchase this book. There are no perfect books but between this book, the other one that I mentioned above, and Google, you should do well.
