I love this book. I like how she (Megumi Tachikawa) tells Saint Tails origin in this book. I don't care what the other person said about this book. I like the other stories by Megumi. I also like Megumi's artwork. So if you like all of Megumi's stories than this is a good book for you.

This volume is kinda boring. The cute shorts and Pretty cover are the only redeemable assets to this volume. I recommend you only buy the first six books unless you really want this one.
This text refers to Saint Tail volume #7 book. Don't buy this one unless you really want to read the other shorts by Ms. Tachikawa.

This book is a must read to the people who want to know facts that happened worldwide. If you are looking a book just for relax and patience you can buy it... but if you are looking a book to learn to play and beating the Roulette search another book.

This book is good just for the people who loves to play Roulette as a hobby and not as a bussiness.

In fact, the book related tables from a page to other, this is boring and it take out emotion of the book, besides the tables are confusing and misunderstable.

The book is divided in sections about fact that happened worldwide, and it takes almost all the book just to tell a strategy that is just write in one chapter.

This is to roulette what "Beat the dealer" was to blackjack, the first book to use science to devise practical winning systems for this game of chance. The book is very well-written and readable, with accounts of million-dollar biased-wheel coups through the ages. By the way, don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't find biased wheels these days. With persistence they certainly can be, and the % returns can be staggering. Book Description

The history of the study of popular culture in American academia since its (re)introduction in 1967 is filled with misunderstanding and opposition. From the first, proponents of the study of this major portion of American culture made clear that they were interested in making popular culture a supplement to the usual courses in such fields as literature, sociology, history, philosophy, and the other humanities and social sciences; nobody proposed that study of popular culture replace the other disciplines, but many suggested that it was time to reexamine the accepted courses and see if they were still viable. Opposition to the status quo always causes anxiety and opposition, but when the issues are clarified, often opposition and anxiety melt away, as they now are doing.
Anxiety and opposition were generated on another level when people in academic and curricular power felt that voices were being raised that questioned their credentials and control. They flailed out with every argument at their command, generally thinking only of their self interest and not that of the students and the future of academic education. Generally this wall of opposition has also been breached.
The Popular Culture Association and its many friends and backers in academia, in the United States and abroad, has demonstrated that the study of our everyday and dominant culure should be taken seriously, understandingly and analytically, just as all other aspects of culture should be. Taken that way the study can be useful in developing better educated and responsible citizens from the cradle to the grave. The humanities and social sciences are too important for any portion—especially the majority portion—to be ignored or downplayed. The study of popular culture constitutes a significant and important element, one that can be ignored only at peril

This enormous compendium of rules, variants, strategies and histories is enough to make any game enthusiast's eyes widen with excitement. Even for so large a volume, The New Games Treasury contains a jaw-dropping amount of information. More than 500 games are covered, ranging from the ancient (chess and go) to the modern (Scrabble and Monopoly).

The book doesn't limit itself to just board and card games. You'll even find the rules for darts, softball, and jacks; even tag and 20 questions are given their due. Each game description starts with a quick summary of the important details--how many can play, the equipment needed, complexity and duration, etc.--and then explains the rules in a manner that's both clear and thorough. Many descriptions are accompanied by notes about the game's lineage, and beautiful illustrations are found throughout the volume. Where other guides give you the bread and butter of games, The New Games Treasury provides you with the whole seven courses and insists that you stay for dessert. It is highly recommended. --Matthew Baldwin

5 out of 5 stars My Top Recommendation.......2005-04-29

Many people know of "Hoyle"-branded game rule books, but this book deserves much greater recognition and acclaim. In addition to presenting one of the best modern collections of game rules, Mohr delves into the interesting histories behind the games. (Did you know that croquet was once banned as an immoral sport?) From board games to outdoor games to party games, Mohr clearly and entertainingly presents a delightful and diverse set of game entertainments for all ages.

Other sources will, of course, present more comprehensive sets of rules for card games (www.pagat.com), dice games (Knizia's "Dice Games Properly Explained"), and other types of games. From my full shelf of game rule books, this is the beautiful and balanced one I would recommend to a friend who is seeking their first.

5 out of 5 stars Superb book, waiting for a reprint.......2003-12-29

This is a review for an earlier edition (the one that has 300 favorites): what a wonderful resource -- we use it when the kids are stuck indoors after a series of rainy days, or when we have company (adult or kids). It has games for one, two, or many; board games, card games, word games, outdoor games -- you name it, the book has it. We like our, now dog-eared, book so much that we wanted to get it as a gift and we were very disappointed to find that it was out-of-print. Well, let us hope that the third edition is coming up.

          5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2002-03-29

I'm so glad I purchased this book. I've been looking at it for hours at a time since I got it. There's sure to be a game that everyone in your family will enjoy. Outdoor, dice, card (many variations, including solitaire games), stones, beans, shells, pen & paper, domino, board (some requiring special pieces, like Chess and Monopoly), parlor, travel, really old, and somewhat new games! Buy it if for no other reason than to settle family arguments about rules!

Got a big yard or park nearby and lots of friends? Play Capture the Flag, Touch or Flag Football, Prisoner's Base, Red Rover, Dodge Ball or tons of other outdoor games requiring little or no equipment.

Like word games? There's a section for those, too!

Got a little one who's lonely and bored? Teach 'em how to play various forms of Hopscotch, Jacks, Jump Rope, or Marbles.

Want a global, multi-cultural gaming persprective? Try the Mancala games, dreidels, or French Tarot games (these all require special equipment).

I bought it for the information about horseshoes, croquet, and bocce (lawn bowling). It gives dimensions for the playing area, rules, even a little strategy! I am not kidding you, this book is great if you have kids to entertain, or just really love a good game.

I plan to teach my fiancee how to play chess this weekend using the very comprehensive instructions this book provides.

5 out of 5 stars A terrific resource for game players of any age or ability!.......1999-11-17

This is a great book. The card games alone make it a terrific resource but then add homemade board games, dice games, guessing games, outdoor games for all ages children to adult, and you have hours and hours of fun in a book. The directions are straightforward and easy to follow. The games index lets you choose a game by number of players, complexity, time, and age level with notations for variations, equipment needed and a distinction between quiet and active games. Our family has learned many new games we had never even dreamed about - we even learned to play bocce ball with croquet balls! Buy it if you like to play games.

5 out of 5 stars Cisco QOS Exam Certification Guide ( IP Telephony Self-Study, 2nd edition........2007-09-02

I bought this book to send it to Chile, where a nephew was in desperate need of it as part of his career and work in Telecommunications. Before I sent it, I had the opportunity to browse through it and I was very impressed with the easy to understand presentation of complex concepts, the lay out of topics, and its organization in general. Lots of diagrammed visuals and a section with very detailed answers to challenging questions. I understand that this is a book that is hard to find in Chile, so, I am also very impressed with the excellent service and information that Amazon.com provided me at ALL TIMES. I could compare prices and get the best one offered, shipping was done in a very timely basis to give me plenty of time to send it to Chile. I cannot tell you how happy my nephew is. He got this wonderful Self Study Guide as a College Graduation Gift. This book is an excellent resource material for those who need to brush up their knowledge in IP Telephony, or to help others to prepare for those exams.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for understanding Cisco QoS.......2007-03-31

I haven't found any other book that explains Cisco's QoS implementation this accurately, and it's also very straightforward in its explanations. I really have to applaud the authors for their work.

The book spends most of its time covering the modular QoS interface, and for good reason - the other, more traditional tools are slowly being phased out. The older methods are still mentioned and explained however.

There is also a good amount of discussion on fragmentation and interleaving, why you need it, and how to implement it. The explanations were particularly excellent in regards to frame relay interleaving and how it ties together with all the other QoS tools.

The diagrams can sometimes be confusing - sometimes they read right to left, other times left to right. While the authors make note of which way to read it, making it consistent would be better.

There are also questions to get the juices flowing both at the beginning and end of the chapters, to keep the bits (no pun intended) where they belong.

If you are studying for the CCVP QoS exam this book is a fantastic resource, quite possibly the best available.

5 out of 5 stars As Good as it Gets.......2007-03-26

In the category of network books written for the practicing engineer it simply gets no better than this. Outstanding!!

5 out of 5 stars Great book, both practically and academically.......2006-10-24

Attempting to keep this review short and to the point, let me point out the following...

1-This book covers ALL the subjects required for the exam with ALL the details needed, plus a very little extra for more confidence on the exam and for a better understanding of the required subjects. You do NOT need any other material to pass the exam.

2-Expecting to need 1.5 to 2 months to finish the book, it took me less than 3 weeks ! The writing style and the language are crisp and clear (English is a second language to me !)

3-Useful, or actually, indespensible for both, the exam and pratical usage.

4-I was going to split this review into "Pros" and "Cons", but couldnt find any real cons, except maybe some typos, which were mostly corrected in the errata.

In short, very highly recommended, for both, passing the exam, very quickly, if I may add, as well as for applying QoS in production networks.

5 out of 5 stars Best-of-class book at implementing QoS.......2006-02-05

CiscoPress's "Cisco QoS - Exam Certification Guide" 2nd Edition by Odom and Cavanaugh is marketed for the QoS 642-642 exam. In reality, this book is an excellent resource for both real-world implementations and for the CCIE R&S exam. Typically, QoS is not a subject that would keep me engaged, but this book does just that. The writing style is crisp, clean and succinct.

The book jumps right out of the gate at explaining, in very easy to understand terms, the underpinnings of QoS and also the enemies of QoS (Bandwidth, Delay, Jitter and Loss). The book next discusses the different tools for QoS (classifying and marking, queuing, shaping, congestion avoidance and link efficiency). This is the bulk of the book and where the book most shines. The diagrams and configs greatly enhance the discussions of the various QoS techniques. The book finishes up by discussing the nuances of LAN QoS (particularly CoS and DSCP) and best practices.

Items I find of particular use:
          * Chapter 3 discusses MQC (Modular QoS CLI) - this is an area where Cisco has, lately, really focused their energies at developing. It seems each new Cisco IOS has new commands to further enhance the MQC capabilities. This chapter does a great job at discussing the syntax of these commands (for instance - checkout the different `match' commands on page 148).
          * Chapter 6 discusses traffic policing and shaping - I have an admitted difficult time knowing when to implement shape average vs shape peak. This chapter documents the use of each command as well as the difference in policy-based police commands (see page 385).

Overall, I consider this book an essential tool in my preparation for the CCIE R&S lab. Weighing in at over 700 pages, this is a tome that I reference often (and keep handy on my bookshelf).

I give this book 5 pings out of 5:

5 out of 5 stars Great book to understand ALL Cisco QoS implementations.......2006-02-02

CiscoPress's "Cisco DQOS Exam Certification Guide" by Odom is a best-of-class book. The book is not for the meek - weighing in at over 850 pages, the book is a sizable investment of time and energy to properly appreciate. While the book was mainly written to be utilized for a few QoS exams, I'd expect to see this book on the bookshelf of many CCIEs or CCIE wannabes (including myself).

The beauty of this book is that it covers QoS in a depth that is not equaled elsewhere. For example, the book's first chapter, simply an overview of QoS, is almost 80 pages (some overview)! The first chapter succinctly describes the differences and nuances of the enemies of QoS - delay, jitter, bandwidth and packet loss. The second and third chapters do a great justice at trying to explain the dizzying array of tools available to adjust QoS - the different classes of tools and the differences between classification and marking. And so forth..., each chapter does a great job at explaining the mysteries of QoS.

Of course, with any book of such complexity, typos must be expected. Two typos that I noticed are:
-on page 333, I believe the correct Bc should be 93.75ms.
-on page 456, FRED can match on layer 4, not layer 3 protocols

If I had a `Top 10' for books that I feel would be necessary for the CCIE, I would place this book on the list. I have not been able to find the same explanations for QoS on Cisco's website or in other networking books.

I give this book 5 pings out of 5:
          !!!!!

5 out of 5 stars And the Award for Best of Cert Books goes to...........2004-11-01

The team of Cavanaugh & Odom have hit a homerun here. This book has everything; Sex, Politics, Intrigue, Suspense, Greed, Betrayal and Redemption. Well, okay, it has none of that. But, it does have everything that the Experienced Networker could want to know about Quality of Service, and it's role and implementation within today's rapidly converging internetnetworks. The authors have proven to be knowledgeable, insightful and easy to understand. And, while this book may seem "overly long" to many, it strives to give fairly complete coverage of this important matter regarding today's internetworking environment. This is a very important point when your seeking to spend some "quality time" with a Cisco certification exam (not mention some quality cash on an exam).

Cavanaugh & Odom have moved beyond the normal course of just re-editing Cisco TAC web content for bound, portable consumption that is the hallmark of many of Cisco Press' previous publications. While the layout will be familiar to previous C.P. readers, the actual format and content presentation is fresh. Each chapter's order and flow strongly adheres to the tried and true, but Illustrations, Diagrams, Scenarios and Examples are not just simply reprinted fare from Cisco's website. Each chapter's content is easily on par with all other Authors/Publishers that are typically quoted as being "easier to digest and understand". Even the book's index is surprisingly extensive and comprehensive, and misses very few important items. When the working examples actually are repackaged from Cisco's web content, the explanations and follow-throughs are incisive and accurate. Knowledge and understanding can be gained from every page without overkill or excessive repetition.

Any exam candidate seeking an in-depth review and preparation for the Cisco QOS or DQOS exams will find this book a treasure trove chocked full of the expected scenerios, examples and practice questions. All networking professionals should strongly consider stocking this in their personal reference collection for handy lookups to otherwise difficult QOS problems. However, I caution one, if you're seeking a quick and simple introduction to QOS, or looking to "break into" or "get their foot in the door" of internetworking, you should go elsewhere. This is definitely not the kiddy end of the pool. But then again, it certainly won't require the deep sea background of a CCIE either. This manual may start with the foundations of QOS but it very quickly ramps up to a professional-level internetworking reference. This is a book that goes beyond the classroom and heads straight for the real world.

As my industry and workplace move further towards voice and data "Convergence", this book has quickly become my working cookbook for smoothing out tough QOS implementation questions. And, It shall remain an important part of my desktop reference library for a long time to come.

          5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2004-05-07

It seems that everybody likes this book so I won't waste your time writing another long review.
This book is by far the best Cisco book I've read, and I've read a few. It's full of detail and a very very good starting point for QOS.

5 out of 5 stars Cisco Creates another great Reference.......2003-12-26

I recently read the book titled "Cisco DQOS Exam Certification Guide" by Wendell Odom, ISBN: 1587200589.
This book takes the user through the topic of Deploying Quality of Service in Cisco networks to a new level of knowledge. QoS has become one of the hottest if not the hottest topic in enterprise and medium size business networks. The ability to control traffic based on its priority and the ability to prioritize the traffic based on any number of criteria has become a required skill in today's marketplace. To Quote from Cisco's Web Site "Quality of Service (QoS) is an essential element to building a flexible, accessible, and efficient network. Its role in multiple technologies underlines the need for most networking professionals to master the features that implement QoS" The advent of Cisco's AVVID network and the proliferation of IP telephone services and applications along with the advancement in Video Conferencing and Group Collaboration software have created an unprecedented need for Quality of Service implementation. This book is filled with examples and thorough explanations of many complicated and essential configurations. The authors display a thorough knowledge of this sometimes difficult and always challenging subject. There are numerous charts and graphs to help aid in understanding the concepts presented. This book takes the reader step by step through configuration of all of the commonly use techniques and gives the user a good understanding of not only how to enter the commands but also what the commands do and how they interact. The topics covered in this book will give a CCIE R/S candidate essentially all of the skills needed for the QoS portions of the CCIE Practical Exam. The book covers all of the currently available traffic prioritization and queuing methods in a high degree of detail. It is, I think, geared towards an audience of knowledgeable professionals who already have some knowledge in the area of QoS. The book provides a reader with the tools necessary to implement virtually any needed QoS features in his/her own network. I would rate it as a MUST HAVE reference for anyone who might be required to implement QoS in a Cisco environment. This is a winner for Cisco Press. It proves once again the commitment to excellence of Cisco Press and delivers a book that is very useful to anyone involved in the implementation of the topic it covers. The authors have taken a difficult subject and broken it down into manageable chunks. At the end of the day the user will have a good understanding of the broad topic of QoS and have the tools necessary to implement it in a Cisco environment.

5 out of 5 stars Great resource before and after the exam!!!!!!.......2003-12-16

Let me just start off by saying that I wish I had Wendell Odom's Cisco DQoS Exam Certification Guide a few months ago when I was studying for this exam. I had looked at a number of other Cisco Press and non-Cisco Press books and could not find one that adequately covered the topics in the exam. This one covers all of them and more.

The book starts off by listing all the exam topics that will be covered in both DQoS 9E0-601 and QOS 642-641 exams and then explains how to interpret those often nebulous expectations. Do not get me wrong. It does not give you a blow by blow of what is on the exam but rather informs you of how test makers come up with course objectives and a method to use in studying. I found this very helpful. In fact, I wish someone had taught me that as a freshman in college.

If you are familiar with Cisco Press Exam Certification Guides you will not be disappointed in the familiar format. Each chapter starts with an overview and "Do I Know This Already?" quiz. I always find these helpful in determining my level of knowledge on a particular subject and those areas I need to study.

It then proceeds to the meat of each chapter. They are filled with many useful diagrams and tables that do a wonderful job complimenting and expanding Odom's covering of each chapter. There are plenty of switch and router configurations that also provide help in giving real life examples of how QoS is implemented.

Each chapter then wraps up with an excellent Foundation Summary and Q&A section. Answers to the questions are found in an appendix in the back of the book.

In general I found all of the topics covered as well, if not better, than the DQoS class I took to study and pass the test. In particular I found the first two chapters great in providing a great overview of QoS, its architectures and tools. I have used Odom's example of bank teller lines, with a number of customers, to provide a way of explaining the difficult topic of QoS and it quickly resonates with them.

I also found the last two chapters on QoS Design and LAN QoS very useful. The LAN QoS chapter provides information on the 3550s and latest Modules/Supervisor Engine cards for the Catalyst 6500 and 4500/4000. I have already used this information as a resource on a project. The design chapter has also been useful in helping me "flesh out" customer's goals and providing design recommendations based upon those goals.

In conclusion, I always feel that for a study guide to truly be useful, it must have some use after the exam. Wendell Odom's Cisco DQoS Exam Certification Guide certainly does that well. It will not only be sufficient in providing you the information that you need to study for and pass the test, but it will certainly be useful as a quick reference guide on many of the topics covered. I plan on having it with me from the project planning stages to the optimizing and troubleshooting stages (although if your good and follow his teachings on the former you probably will not have much of the latter). Thanks Wendell for another well written and useful book.
