Fans can follow the exploits of Darryl and Wanda as they confront the daily dilemmas--and miracles--of being first-time parents in this most recent Baby Blues collection.
Customer Reviews:
Very funny!.......2002-05-23
"Baby Blues" is the funniest comic strip! I missed the early ones, so I'm glad I found "She started it!: a Baby blues cartoon collection." The situations this family gets into is priceless! When you're feeling 'blue,' grab this book and your spirits will be lifted! I recommend.
Non-stop Laughter!!.......1998-03-25
Baby Blues have always hit home. This one is no exception. The way Zoe acts is what usual kids do, except now it's all recorded down. All the moments you wished you had a camera? If you have kids or planning to have kids, this is the one and only book I would recommend. It doesn't have alot of tips on parenting, BUT it shows what you're in for and the situation is not always as bad as you think. OR if you don't have kids and not even planning to have any, this book will make you laugh, PROMISE!!!

this helped.......2004-01-11
This book is worth reading. The examples and information in this booked helped me a lot in thinking of conflict resolution with my boys, ages 7, 9, 11. I liked the lists of questions and situations to reflect upon to make her points. I found the Hawaiian family therapy part very interesting and would like to try that myself with my family; I would have liked more of that.

Book Description
Fans of Sedaris and Burroughs had better fasten their seat belts because Craig Chester is in the driver's seat. Thirteen hilarious all true tales from his life growing up in the Bible Belt to starring in nine films prove that the average American life is anything but normal. Being mistaken for a small Asian girl during childhood, ridiculed for not being able to speak in tongues at Sunday school, and throwing up during a meeting with Paul Rudnick, are all moments most people would rather leave behind. Instead, Chester parades them out for all to see in this wonderfully comic collection of his most memorable moments of not quite being in the 'in' crowd.

Gay indie film star dishes the dirt on Hollywood
Customer Reviews:
A Truly Inventive Writer.......2005-04-18
This wry, witty, entertaining, and eminently readable tome is about as different from your typical paint-by-numbers, self-serving, egocentric showbiz autobiography as any I've ever read. Rather than blandly follow the timeline of his life and career, actor Craig Chester - an "openly gay" performer who never came out of the closet because he was never in it! - introduces himself to his readers through a series of clever and thought-provoking essays in which he uses his past as a launching pad to discuss general topics on which he wishes to comment. This fresh and unusual approach allows the reader both to pick up on the threads of Chester's life story and to get a handle on his personality, as well as his views on the worlds of filmmaking, gay politics, relationships, and many other subjects. Chester's writing proves that should he ever decide to abandon acting, he has another equally vital career awaiting him as a writer. "Why the Long Face?" is one of those books you have trouble putting down, and wish would never end. Very highly recommended!
Laugh fest all the way--but also much wisdom in the telling.......2005-04-04
WHY THE LONG FACE? is one of the funniest books I have read in years--and mind you, I have only just read the first two chapters. The first (camp) had a smile on my smile throughout, and the second (Halloween) had me laughing aloud. I have no doubt that I am going to enjoy every chapter that follows, and I have no problem puting pen to paper and calling the work positively delicious only 22 pages into it. I toss more books than I finish, as I am easily bored--but this book hooked me immediately. Chester's delightfully bizarre personality, truly independent take on life, and wonderfully wicked wit shine on every page; they are just what the doctor ordered after a week of stress at work. I feel as if I have a friend sitting next to me on my couch, cracking me up with tales of his most offbeat moments. The world needs more writers/actors/genuine human beings like Craig Chester! Bravo!
Some downtime between movies?.......2004-08-20
I was prepared to enjoy this book a great deal thinking it would be full of tales about the trials and tribulations of being gay and grabbing for fame.
Instead what I got was a long winded - even at just 261 pages -collection of essays - some were stories that barely got developed and others were just page after page of "well here's what I think, bla bla bla." The stories I wanted more details and insight on, ended abruptly with a verbal version of an arched eyebrow. The essays I was bored to tears by went on an on.
The author means well (benefit of the doubt here) but really who cares about an actor's thoughts on what it means to be gay in a general sense? Just shut up and stop trying to show off. Tell us your life story and if we learn something, great. If not, at least keep us entertained.
This book is filled with some name droppings and yes some bitterness but nothing to make me sympathize or relate. For all his talk about how he'll never be a big Hollywood star (a lot of people won't, sir) he still comes off as a snob.
Too much preaching and not enough talent as a writer to make it soar. A story about basically an attempted murder by his mother is sort of humorously wrapped up with sarcasm and nothing else - nothing internal.
All that advance praise covering the book jacket is all from friends with famous names. If I wrote a book, I'm sure my friends would scream "PULITZER!!" too. I hadn't even cracked the spine before being confronted with gross butt kissing. Can no one tell the truth? Comparisons to Noel Coward? Words like "astounding and wise"? "Exhausting in their hilarity" - oh my.
It's all so so very fake and phony. Worse than that, it's tiresome. In the end I felt like the author had some downtime between movies and just wanted someone to pay attention to him and "oh look, there's a word processor and I know someone in publishing...."
Hardly independent, it's ironically very "Hollywood".
No long face here! This book is more than wonderful.......2003-07-12
OK, it's probably not fair of me to write here because: a) I read the first draft of this book and b) I'm in it. But here goes:
Not even 40 (OK, not even CLOSE to 40), Craig has lived at least three lives already. This book only touches the tip of the iceberg. Craig has already proven his acting mettle in God knows how many films; now he proves that his writing is even better. (I told you this in 1988, but...oh well...) Perhaps only people who have truly touched the dark side of life can acquire a really razor-sharp and hysterical wit about their down sides. (Is it a coincidence that tortured-til-she-dropped Judy Garland was also able to laugh even in the face of the most outrageous adversity?)
Craig proves he doesn't sweat the small stuff, because he's dealt so very amusingly with tons of big stuff. But even at his lowest point, Craig makes it all sound so FUN you wish you'd been there, too. The biggest compliment I can give to Craig is this: Even if I never knew you and hadn't been at least on the periphery of much of what you describe, I would have still eaten this book with an obscenely huge appetite. I forced myself to only read 20 pages a day to make sure it would last. I can say that about very few authors.
A Must Read!!!.......2003-04-30
I absolutley loved this book. I thought the title was intriguing so I bought it. I was delighfully surprised. Mr. Chester is one of the best writers I have had the privelege to read in a long time. This book is hilarious, touching and insightful. I hope he writes another book soon. We need more writers like him. I have not laughed nor been moved so much by a book in a very long time. Kudos to you Mr. Chester for writing such a wonderful book and sharing your fascinating life with us.

Book Description
In the stormy decades between 1920 and 1940, America's cities as well as its rural areas were introduced to a new breed of lawlessnessthe Gangster. Public Enemies: America's Criminal Past details hard-to-find statistics, narratives, and lore, as well as the vivid personalities that roamed the country during this period.
Filled with more than 70 illustrations and editorial cartoons that capture the attitudes of the era, Public Enemies reveals the nature of U.S. crime and criminals during this time, with particular attention to Prohibition bootleggers, Depression Era outlaws, and the first nationwide "war on crime."
Coverage begins with an overview of the sweeping changes in crime, crime control, and crime legislation and includes:
A Chronology of Crime: lists over a thousand headline crimes between 1920-1940, including commentary on those with historical significance. A Who's Who of Gangsters and Outlaws: Details the criminals who struck terror in the nation, revealing many little known facts. Special features that focus on such topics as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, the beginning of crime control, and the history of finger printing. An extensive bibliography.
Customer Reviews:
Endlessly boring.......2007-05-20
THis really little more than a pile of facts, and boring ones at that, tossed together between two covers and passed off as a book. It is, essentially, lists after lists of names of bad guys from the past. We learn nothing about them leaving the reader with the desire to ask for a refund.
The Gangster and Outlaw Bible.......2005-08-27
Can't believe i didn't give a my favorite reference book a review. This thing is filled with facts and anecdotes relating to outlaw and gangsters of the depression era.Thompson guns, mafia,Chicago gangland murder listings with a neat book review in the back.I used mine to run my site and i used it well. It's now ragged.Looking forward to the new updated edition coming out next spring.Helmer and Mattix are truly literary hitmen!
America's criminal past comes to life.......2005-08-24
The dynamic duo of Helmer and Mattix have developed an almanac of a virtual "who's who" of personalities and events in the criminal world during and after the "Great Depression" era. Emphasis is on the exploits of the Barker Gang and Al Capone, and his Chicago influences. I would highly recommend this to all interested readers of America's criminal past!
Mike Koch, author of "The Kimes Gang."
Indispensible for the True Crime Writer.......2005-05-23
I love this book, and not just because I know the authors personally ;) As a True Crime writer myself, I value almanacs like this one as an information resource. Written in a lively, engaging style, "Public Enemies: America's Criminal Past, 1919-1940" is a must for any serious researcher's library.
An incredible treasury of gangster info!.......2004-10-13
I've always enjoyed reading about the mobsters of the Depression era, like Babyface Nelson, Al Capone, Pretty Boy Floyd, John Dillinger, etc. I've never seen so many crimes & criminals of that era covered so well in one book. In fact, out of all my gangster books I'd have to say this one is my favorite. It has a great chronology of crimes, criminals & crime control from 1919-1940, great photos, very informative text, a helpful bibliography, & even a list of gangland murders in Chicago! William Helmer & Rick Mattix have truly blessed us crime buffs with an outstanding book!

Definive work on the Lewis Chessmen.......2005-06-04
I recommend this book to folks with an interest in knowing much more about the Lewis chessmen.
This publication by the British Museum Press is the definitive work on the Lewis Chessmen. It has more information than the British Museum book store. It's written in a scholarly fashion; it includes the varied accounts on their discovery, along with 59 plates, technical observations, extensive footnotes, and an extensive bibliography.
Book Description
C# is an object-oriented programming language that is similar to the Java programming language in many respects but more comprehensive and different in most details. This book gives a concise description of C#. It is intended as a guide for readers who know Java and want to learn C# and as a quick reference for anyone who wants to know C# in more detail than that provided by a standard textbook. The final chapter of C# Precisely summarizes the differences between C# and Java.
C# Precisely is one of the first books on C# to cover version 2.0. It presents the entire C# 2.0 programming language, including generics, iterators, and anonymous methods. It excludes most of the extensive Microsoft.NET framework class libraries except threads, input/output, and generic collection classes. The book shows general rules on left-hand pages, with corresponding examples on right-hand pages. All examples are fragments of legal C# programs. The complete, ready-to-run example programs are available at the book's Web site.
Customer Reviews:
Mundane Esoterica 2.0.......2006-11-02
C# Precisely stands out like a shaft of gold surrounded by the darkness of all other books.
If you like reading UPC labels, Indexes, Phone Books, or Citations/Bibliographies, this book is a must have.
The !!BEST!! C# book money can buy.......2006-08-01
Dont hesitate to buy this, this is the BEST programming book I have ever seen. Its loaded with tons of info the keeps you reading. You wont get board with this because its not loaded with words that dont relate to anything like most books, its just 'to the point'. Everything is explained clearly and precisely with the excellent precise explanations on the left and perfect examples on the right. One thing I have noticed is the english can be confusing(commas in a place were it shouldnt be) but who cares. If your trying to learn C# this may not be a good place to start unless you know Java or a similar langugage. I have been looking for a book that explains the C# language without trying to teach me how to program and this is it. For those wanting to learn how to program or come from VB you need 3 books, a C# "Primer", this book, and a .NET Framework book (mabe Pro C# 2005 and the .NET Platform)
Also, the errata is very small, the part on nullable types tells you that you could make a nullable nullable by saying int i?? but that was removed from C#, and something is wrong with IEnumerable
...
for mostly computational coding in C#; no graphics.......2006-06-11
This book has the same style as Sestoft's companion text, "Java Precisely". Concise explanations, that are perhaps best suited to a programmer already experienced in other languages, but who now wants to learn C#.
You can rapidly pick up the essence of computational coding in C# using the book. The major classes are well treated. Be aware however that for making widgets, you really should consult another text.
The Best C# Book I ever had.......2005-07-29
This book is incredibly concise and precise, as its name.
The example is very concise, too, and "get to the point".
The book's "layout" is also easy to read: the descriptions of the language are given on the left-hand page, and corresponding examples are show on the right-hand pages.
Having this one on my desk, I will not buy any other books about C# language.
I will give it more than five stars if I can.
Note one thing: this book came early, there are minor fixes for C# 2.0 beta 2, you can find them on the book's Web site.
Clear and concise. Just perfect........2005-07-14
A great reference to the C# language, and the fact that almost every (if not all) the left page has an english description of the features and the right page a code example of tha feature. This makes using this book as a reference awesome. Moreover, the examples are very simple and to the point. Excellent resource.
