First it was Jack telling Arnie, then Arnie telling Chi Chi, then Chi Chi telling Fuzzy, and now, in the fourth installment of golf's longest continuing comedies, it's Fuzzy's turn to pass on some of the game's funniest and most revealing anecdotes. These stories, whether they send-up top professionals or rank hackers, have a remarkable way of connecting golfers everywhere. Linked by the links, anyone who's ever had a realistic wager on a hole to keep things interesting will find no great leap to Winston Churchill's once betting the prime ministership of England on a single putt--and missing.

4 out of 5 stars More great stories.......2000-04-28

Many humorous and insightful stories of and from many of the games greatest players. A great read for avid golf fans and an excellent choice to introduce someone to the game. Only problem was that I was familiar with some of the stories. Not sure if they were from the earlier books or books by another author. All in all, a very enjoyable read.

3 out of 5 stars Good Read, But..........2006-05-16

                Great bathroom book!!!

Short, quick reads...Vignette after vignette about golf and golfers, some great and memorable, some good and some average---but all worth reading for those who play, enjoy, appreciate, respect and follow the game of golf.

Good gift book for a golfer or one who enjoys golf.

One Suggestion, however: This is but one of eight such books, beginning with "And Then Jack Told Arnie..." You might want to consider getting "Talking on Tour" by the same author. It is an anthology, the best of the best.

Summing up, a few birdies, some pars, and a bogey or two but an interesting read nonetheless. Go for it!!! (But consider the Anthology first!!!)

                          Book Description

This remarkable book, written by former slave David F. Dorr, published in the mid-nineteenth century and only recently rediscovered, is an uncommon travel narrative. In the 1850s Dorr accompanied Louisiana plantation owner Cornelius Fellowes on a tour of the world's major cities, with the promise that when they returned to the United States, Dorr would be given his freedom. When that promise was broken, Dorr escaped to Ohio and wrote of his experiences in A Colored Man Round the World.
Malini Johar Schueller has edited and annotated the 1858 text and added a critical introduction that provides a useful context for understanding and appreciating this important but heretofore neglected document. Her edition of A Colored Man Round the World provides a fascinating account of Dorr's negotiation of the conflicting roles of slave versus man, taking into account all of the racial complexities that existed at the time. As a traveler abroad, Dorr claimed an American selfhood that allowed him mobility in Europe, and he benefited from the privileges accorded American "Orientalists" venturing in the near East. However, any empowerment that Dorr experienced while a tourist vanished upon his return to America.
The book will be welcomed for the rare perspective it provides of the mid-nineteenth century, through the eyes of an African-American slave and for the light it casts on world and U.S. history as well as on questions of racial and national identity.
Malini Johar Schueller is Professor of English, University of Florida.

                            Book Description

A basic problem in computer vision is to understand the structure of a real world scene. This book covers relevant geometric principles and how to represent objects algebraically so they can be computed and applied. Recent major developments in the theory and practice of scene reconstruction are described in detail in a unified framework. Richard Hartley and Andrew Zisserman provide comprehensive background material and explain how to apply the methods and implement the algorithms. First Edition HB (2000): 0-521-62304-9

The book has a lot of valuable information for those who are working in computer vision. The book however is fairly terse on many subject and requires careful reading.

My lab has the first edition of this book. Everyone likes it. That's why we order a second book. I have not read through the second edition yet, but this book rocks!

4 out of 5 stars Comment on the first edition.......2004-01-04

The first edition of this book could have been much better written. It took up a lot of topics, but treated each in a summary fashion. In fairness, though, I must say that this may be as good as any other book with its aim and scope, and better than some. Any writer on computer vision faces the problem of guessing who the reader is likely to be and what the reader's background is. Also, each of the various topics really merits a sizable book. In particular, the mathematics needs a truly mathematical treatment in a separate book. I have not seen this second edition, but there was room for improvement over the first edition.

5 out of 5 stars very informative, fairly easy to read.......2003-04-25

The book succeeds in introducing you to the world of multiple view geometry. Specially the math and geometry concepts associated with it. In my research, I had to work on stereo images and this book provided very good information about it. The algorithms are presented very clearly and have been easy to implement (at least in Matlab).

It's a good reference book to have.

5 out of 5 stars A must for readers in computer vision.......2001-01-11

It is the best book in this area that I have seen up to now. It is well-organized and all the notations and words are friendly to beginners and even experts in this field. Included materials are really tracing the latest advanced techniques. Actually, it is great that there are a lot of exercises at the ends of each chapters but there is no sufficient solutions or detail explanations to each questions.

                                Book Description

Algebraic projective geometry, with its multilinear relations and its embedding into Grassmann-Cayley algebra, has become the basic representation of multiple view geometry, resulting in deep insights into the algebraic structure of geometric relations, as well as in efficient and versatile algorithms for computer vision and image analysis.

This book provides a coherent integration of algebraic projective geometry and spatial reasoning under uncertainty with applications in computer vision. Beyond systematically introducing the theoretical foundations from geometry and statistics and clear rules for performing geometric reasoning under uncertainty, the author provides a collection of detailed algorithms.

The book addresses researchers and advanced students interested in algebraic projective geometry for image analysis, in statistical representation of objects and transformations, or in generic tools for testing and estimating within the context of geometric multiple-view analysis.
