Customer Reviews:
I can't put it down!!.......2005-07-08
As a child I used to save my paper-route money and buy MAD magazine and share it with my brother (or vise-versa at times). Many, many years later as an adult, I was very interested on how these guys could make this magazine so funny time after time and hear the 'real' stories told from adult to another. Some of the reviews of this book are undeserved and much too harsh in my opinion.
The author shares experiences at MAD that left an impression on him and made MAD what it was and what it is. Those events also helped to define the author, his style and how he got to where he is today.
This is what the book is about. To suggest the author should have censored stories is ridiculous. That defeats the purpose of the book. Why ask a question if you don't want to know the real answer, but instead some sugar-coated twist of the truth or omission? Ignorance is bliss, and other reviewers seem to punish the author for enlightening them and, by doing so, taking away some of their bliss.
If I wanted to read a story like that, I'd of picked up a work of fiction. This story is real and the author is very humble when he shares his perspectives with us. This is not biography of Prince Charles complaining how tough life is with all these servants and money around.
It's a tale of a true journey of both discovery and growth told in a humorous fashion in a way only a MAD writer could write it. I don't think the book was written for children, although I could find nothing truly offensive about it. The complaint about an S&M photograph is just ridiculous. Its a picture of a closet with leather chaps and such meant as joke. No one is wearing them.
If you can't face reality you have no business buying this book, let along being disappointed by it.
For me, I couldn't stop turning the pages. It's funny, it's true and it does what it's author intended for it to do. Answer all those questions I mentioned at the top of this review and why I purchased the book. How anyone could have expected anything different is beyond me. How anyone could suggest 'we don't talk about those things' is just poor advice. Closing your eyes or not talking about something does not change reality. To suggest the authors stories are inappropriate is like telling a professional chef how to cook. If you don't like the food, don't eat there and complain about it, go some where else.
Excellent.......2005-01-17
If you approach this book with no real preconceptions, this is an incredible book. It is not an objective portral of MAD Magazine or its founder; it's more like a personal homage from the author to Bill Gaines and the history of MAD.
Reading Gaines and reading about how MAD was a lesson in inspiration. Contrasted with the dull banality of everyday life, this book shines out like a technicolor monkey.
Good Days and MAD is the BEST historical book ever existed!.......2004-06-06
I actually don't understand why people only rated 3 stars for this book. It's awesome once you actually READ IT! I think one of you voted 3 stars because you just wanna look at the pictures. I voted 5 stars because I actually READ it. (I'm sorry if you guys HAVE read it and rate it 3 stars) The cover of the book dosen't lie! It IS a hysterical tour behind the scenes. I'll let you in a little bit of detail, since I own the book. The WHOLE staff of MAD always abuse each other. Example: Dick DeBartolo wanted to speak to the founder "William M. Gaines" Then DeBartolo heard over the phone Gaines said "He's a pain in the ass!" There's alot more abusing before Gaines said "He's a pain in the ass!" I don't remember what else he said, but it's FUNNY!So enclosing, THIS BOOK ROCKS!
- The MADDEST fan of MAD magazine
Couldn't even finish it.......2003-09-13
This book was awful. Awful, awful, awful. Mr. Debartolo must have a sticky key on his keyboard for the exclamation mark!!!! Practically every sentence is punctuated with five of them!!! Is life this exciting for this hack writer?!?!?! Besides that, the book wanders from topic to unrelated (and uninteresting) topic endlessly. It mystifies me how this man has actually made a career in the publishing industry. Wonders never cease. This book should be shown to grammer school children to prove to them that you can be ANYTHING you want (even with a total lack of talent). Also, if you want your girlfriend to think you're an idiot and break up with you, give her this book for Christmas. That's what my ex did. Clever maneuvering on his part.
real junk.......2003-06-17
This book is boring, poorly written and disgusting. All Debartolo
does is make Mad look like a has-been long lost and sold-out business. On top of this, there is a rather disturbing homoerotic S&M photograph midway through the book, which I still can't understand why its there, as it has no place in the context of the book, and it's inclusion is not explained at all.
I really get the idea that this book was not even welcomed by the Mad staff, and that Debartolo made a mistake that he knew he had to finish once it was begun. Save your money and buy the other book about Mad called Completely Mad - its much better.

Or, more importantly, what kind of man could torture an Alien? Professor Ernst Kleist has genetically engineered powerful, obedient Aliens. The horror of nature is dwarfed by the terror of a man who would toy with it.

The nature of the Aliens.......2000-03-27
This book deals with a somewhat less than stable scientist trying to decipher the genetic code of the Alien race. This is nothing new, but nevertheless, this is one of the best graphic novels in the series. The artwork is good, and the characters are very well played out.
I really enjoyed the read, and recommend this graphic novel to all fans of the Aliens series!

The *Male* Alien!!.......2007-07-06
This was the first book of the "Aliens" series that I've read, and it was the same that gave me interest to read more! This, as far as it seems, it's not bond-related with other books of the series, only tells about the 'War' as in a past time. It is a story about the creation of the rogue, the male alien, or the 'king alien', as some could say. A very interesting book not only for its action-packed story, but also for the biology theme about the species. There are different things told about the aliens in different books, but this is one worth reading. Before about the middle of the book, I couldnt stop until i finished reading it.
Aliens: rogue.......2004-02-20
Aliens: rogue was by far the best Aliens book i have ever read in all of the books. It has a lot of action. Every Alien reader needs to read this book
Above average spin-off.......2003-12-29
This book provides the requistite gore, violence, profanity and usual carnage, but also delivers sex!
But that's about all that separates this story from many others like it. The characters are less characiture-like and more human, but still have little distinguishing traits, including the heroine. There is little here to strangle your kitty over. The violence isn't done in any way that makes it particularly memorable or wrenching. There little appeal to imagery or nuance. Nothin vivid or intriguing in the character department like in ALIEN HARVEST. Recommended for Aliens fans, but nothing to pull in the skeptics
Rogue: An action packed Shoot 'em up Alien tale.......2003-12-02
This novel is really just a shoot 'em up cowboy tale, with the Indians being aliens. Very high tech with okay character development. There is a not so good love story subplot, but it does prove to be a good story with some stolen ideas from the alien movies. The story is about this planet were this Proffesor is supposed to find good use of the aliens on the planet. The Proffesor is crazy and insteads starts sending people to their death and creates a creature named Rogue. The Rogue is supposed to fight the alien queen and win the war for the humans, but something unexpected happens. I won't tell what, but altogether it is an okay book that is good to read if you like the alien series. Three and a half stars.
Team work among writers makes its mark.......2002-12-08
No, I don't believe in cruelty to animals. That being said, I think this is one great book. Hard to read, yes, but very rewarding if you like solid sci-fi with a balanced amount of action, suspense, and drama. There are also tiny sprinkles of mystery here and there.
The story begins when an African-American transport pilot (Joyce, I think her name is) makes her way to a space rock/station. There, she catches up with an old friend, both unaware that professor Ernst Kleist is up to very evil experiments.
The title, Rogue, comes from a domestic alien bred by Kleist himself. That's all I'm saying cuz I don't want to spoil anything.
This book is somehwat of a departure from the Alien movies (not just because Ripley's not even mentioned) but it's equally as good.
Pay no attention to any ads for other books that say stuff like "If you liked Aliens Rogue...". This story is one of a kind.

Great story, great writing!.......2000-09-17
Wild Irish Rogue is fun, funny, and thought-provoking. It's a love story with a twist, a handsome Irish hero, a bookish but beautiful heroine, and a cast of endearing supporting characters plucked from the fertile imagination of the author, Suzanne Barrett.
It made me laugh; made me ache; made me cheer. Plus the writing is superb. --Lynna Banning

Book Description
Jeremy Seabrook argues that the diversity of cultures is threatened by the onslaught of global concentrations of power and wealth. Seabrook takes the case of Bengal, a culture with a rich tradition of song, dance, and drama still practiced by most villagers. Threatened by Western economic penetration, alien forms of religious fundamentalism, and the industrialized world's popular culture, many Bengalis are resisting this violent attack on their culture and traditions. It is in this light that Bangladesh can be seen as a microcosm for other threatened cultures.

Book Description
The African dancer requires complete technical mastery and must respect the precise rules handed down by the society of the Masques de Sagesse. Alphonse Tiérou is from the Ouenon people of the Ivory Coast. His major study is the first written record of this oral tradition and it explains the movements, codes and meanings of the traditional African dance. It is extremely valuable reading for all those studying or interested in Africa, as dance is such an essential part of this continent's cultural heritage.
A former student of the National Institute of Arts at Abidjan, Alphonse Tiérou has been a senior dignitary in the Kman of the Masques de Sagesse for over twenty years. He is currently teaching at the Bloa Nam (Movements) dance school in Nîmes, which he founded in 1979 and which is still the only school worldwide to research African dance. He was appointed consultant for research into African dance by UNESCO in 1988 and has since organised an impressive African mask ex

Fantastic Reference Book.......2007-06-08
This book has been invaluable to me as a reference. I'm a full time head admin for a medium sized company and day to day this is great for some of those commands that you just can't remember off the top of your head.
The book is laid out in a clear and concise manner covering 90+% of what you will use on a day to day basis as a network admin. It's small and even has a couple of pages at the end of the book set aside for you to add personal notes.
It is NOT the book to purchase if you want to know why something works, there is no theory or explanation, only the commands needs to get something up and running.
This book is great and I would highly recommend any network admin to carry it.
A great book if you don't already have a CCNA........2007-01-11
I would have loved this book while I was still studying for my CCNA. I grabbed this, because I thought it would be like a command dictionary. It's more of a step-by-step for beginners. I would Cisco made a CCNP portable command guide.
Great Portable CCNA Guide.......2007-01-09
It's a kick way to remember all the commands you need to pass
As good as you can get for a dry subject.......2006-03-26
This is one of the better study aids, but as with all study aids it is boring to read. It may just be me, but I hate to read anything like this, but I have to keep my certs. It is up to date with the latest verion of the test and very informative. It will make a great companion to use along side the bigger complete CCNA test prep books and also to use in the field when you need to remember those odd commands.
Excellent book for CCNA.......2006-03-03
it is an excellent book for your preparation for the CCNA.it is also very useful for the memorizing the commands that most used in the router confiruation in your job.
