Book Description
FASTER THAN A JELLY DONUT,
ABLE TO GOBBLE LASAGNA IN A SINGLE GULP. . .
It's the one and only feisty furball GARFIELD--the corpulent cat with an attitude second only to his appetite. So whether he's relishing the fall season (the crinkle of autumn's rustling leaves sounds remarkably like potato chips) or sharpening his claws (quite handy for scratching through a plastic cheese wrapper), rest assured that where Garfield goes, fun--and food--are fast to follow!

I found the funniest comic strip EVER in this book..........2005-07-29
My favorite comic strip is when Garfield slams a cup onto the table and goes "BEAN ME!" with that really funny expression on his face. I cracked up laughing. For all of you who think Garfield's losing his touch, think again!
To eat the Lasagna or Squash the Spider?.......2003-06-01
"'AHA! It is my infamous archenemy, Doctor Dweeb! Unhand that cheeseburger or recive a severe thrashing! '" commands the caped avenger (Garfield). This is an exellent exert from an exellent book. It is hysterical. I woke up at three in the morning wanting to read it for the eight millionth time. One thing that surprised me though,( not a bad surprise,) was that there was no Christmas scene. In all the other Garfield books I've read, there has been a Christmas scene. Garfield hams it up is one of the best Garfiled books, and no collection is complete without it.

Garfield Stinks, and Heres Why..........2002-06-12
I don't blame cartoonists for merchandising their creations. But when the comic strip itself seems like an extension of the merchandise - thats when the label "sell out" applies.
Garfield is a perfect example of what is wrong with the Comics Page today - it is filled with strips that should have ended a LONG time ago, and have no new ideas or jokes to convey. They give us slight variations on the same jokes and situations day after day, their only reason for continueing on seemingly to implant their marketed image in our heads further.
And most of the strips that don't fit this description
are newer attempts at BECOMING what I described above.
The really great strips - Bloom County, The Far Side, Calvin + Hobbes ... their creator's knew when to quit, before their humor and style got bland and repetitive. Garfield, however, appears to be FOUNDED on bland and repetitive humor.
How will he kick Odie today? Look how he wolfs down that lasagnia! Boy, he sure hates mondays!...
GARFIELD RULES!.......2000-06-24
Everybody out there keep buying Garfield books! They can be worth a lot of money someday and can become collector's items! I'm always going to keep all of mine so when I have kids they can read them!

Only a Little More Time Remains.......2003-09-09
Author Claire Wolfe is an adament supporter of individual liberty and personal responsibility. She feels that government has gone way too far in the past few decades in its attempt to govern and control every facet of our lives. In this book, "Don't Shoot the Bastards..Yet", Wolfe lists 101 ways that individuals can still salvage a little bit of freedom from an ever- intrusive government before it's time to let the weapons do the talking.
Wolfe writes about several different topics, and her style jumps from serious to humorous throughout this writing. But the area where she seems to be the most gung- ho on individual liberty is with gun ownership. Wolfe recommends owning guns- lots of guns- as one of the primary means of thwarting off any final attempt from government to take away any more rights. She has other recommendations too, but the gun issue pops up the most frequently. Wolfe believes (like many other political thinkers) that gun rights are the most critical of all because once the guns are confiscated, there will be no means available to fight off oppressive government force if/when the nation turns into a total police state.
This book might seem radical at first and in many ways, it is. But it's not radical to the point of violence. Wolfe reminds the reader over and over again that she is NOT an advocate of force. She just wants the public to know that there are many ways to salvage freedom that are non- violent, easy to do, and completely free (or almost free) of any cost.
Wolfe wrote this book as a follow up to "101 Things to do 'til the Revolution". This book is written in a similar fashion, with a numeric listing of "things" to do. They aren't in any particular order, and the vary widely in length (some are less than one page, some are several pages long). But they all drive home the same point: America is not as free as it once was and unless government officials realize this fact and take action to restore liberty, it's only a matter of time until a revolution takes place. And at that time, the guns and the freedom- loving Americans who own them could very well come out of hiding.
Read this book, and see for yourself how you can regain some of your lost liberty!
Psychological Therapy for the "Postal" in all of us!.......2002-03-23
As a combat veteran that has served this country honorably,
just to watch the "senate" and the congresscritters wipe their behinds with the constitution
that I hold dear, is almost unbearable.
Clair Wolfe in my opinion, has supported and defended the constitution as well as any soldier.
Her words will be shrined in the same reverence that I hold the words of Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry,
or Nathan Hale.
As for the ignorant reviews (1-2 stars) I have seen here, they are unfounded in logic or fact.

deserve neither liberty nor safety" -Benjamin Franklin

steal a little freedom back.......2002-02-26
Claire Wolfe has the happy knack of being able to put across solid ideas while keeping you entertained and glued to the page.
This book is a sequel to 101 Things To Do Til The Revolution; a funny, thought-provoking title that has blessed my shelves for a few years now.
If you are looking for ways to subvert authority, protect your constitutional freedoms and give 'Big Brother' a black eye, you could do worse than starting with any of Claire Wolfe's books.
To quote from Claire quoting Jefferson Mack, "too often, too many don't see the loss of freedom as that big of a deal. That's the way the people who steal freedom want it. They want the average citizen still at the job, worried about what he is going to put in his mouth more than what he can say with it". This book will help you steal a little of that freedom back.

Book Description
Deborah Mabbett analyses the historical development of the political economy of Sweden and New Zealand. She examines the reasons why two countries, whose governments shared similar political objectives of full employment, income equality, and social security, should have developed markedly
different policies towards the welfare state, wage bargaining, and trade. Sweden adhered, with a few exceptions, to a policy of free trade, while New Zealand was highly protectionist. Sweden's wage-fixing institutions were corporatist, while in new Zealand the state played a much larger role in
wage determination. Sweden developed a much larger public sector and a more extensive system of social security transfers than New Zealand. Dr Mabbett investigates these differences through an examination of the whole set of economic and social policies adopted in the two countries in relation to
employment and wage determination.

Book Description
Fast becoming the lingua franca of the scientific world, LaTeX is a software system for typesetting technical documents on almost any kind of computer. LaTeX marries the power of TeX with ease of use. The release of LaTeX $2_{\epsilon }$, the new standard version, brings a wider variety of features to the user. This manual, written by the original architect of LaTeX, is the definitive user's guide to LaTeX $2_{\epsilon }$. New users will benefit from the clear, concise, and practical explanations that earned the original LaTeX documentation worldwide praise. Experienced users will want to learn about the new features and capabilities of LaTeX $2_{\epsilon }$. An appendix is included that describes the changes in the new version. This book is published by Addison-Wesley.
Customer Reviews:
The best way to learn LaTeX. Not an exhaustive reference.......2006-07-11
If you are a LaTeX beginner and need to learn the basics, this is probably the best way to do it. Please disregard the low scores given to this book by other reviewers who were disappinted by the level of detail. (Since I am an author of an introductory book myself, this sort of thoughtless on the part of those reviewers really irritates me. A book isn't a bad book just because you didn't read the book description and you thought it was going to be about something else.) The book has a specific purpose, as an introduction and a reference for the base LaTeX packages. It's only 288 pages (compare to The LaTeX Companion at 1120 pages, or Guide to LaTeX at 624 pages). The reference section it has is a reference for the base LaTeX software, not all of the hundreds of packages that have been written for it since 1994 when the book was published. I give it a five star rating for the purpose it was written.
If you want an exhaustive reference to all the packages, try The LaTeX Companion (or dig around on the internet). If you want an excellent introduction to basic LaTeX, the numerous tutorials on the Internet are *not* as good as this book.
There is one very important missing piece from this book - there aren't any key-by-key instructions. That's because LaTeX is used on so many different systems. So an absolute beginner might be surprised to find this information missing. Luckily, this is exactly the sort of information that is more easily found on the Internet.
Essential for Use of LaTeX.......2006-03-06
I started using LaTeX (and TeX) over 15 years ago. I was dissatisfied with the way that Word handled equations (it didn't then) and sought software that would typeset my technical text and mathematics well. A friend and colleague introduced me to LaTeX. I bought a copy of Lamport's book, a PC port of the software, and started using LaTeX to set my work.
I've been using LaTeX ever since. I use it for everything I write, with the exception of a few works that require me to use Word, either because my colleagues use it or the research sponsor requires it. Recently, one of my principal research sponsors began accepting PDF format reports, so I may escape one more instance of using Word. That pleases me. But, I digress.
LaTeX is a set of macros (programs) that implement a variety of styles in the TeX language. Use of LaTeX is through a number of mark-up commands (in the same fashion that web documents are set with HTML mark-up) that are applied to textual elements of a document. Most of your LaTeX documents comprise your text. A small amount of text will be allocated to LaTeX mark-up.
This book provides the necessary instruction for learning to use LaTeX. It is written for technical users, but not computer experts. That is, Lamport expects the users of the software to have a technical background because that's the goal of the software -- to set technical documents. But he doesn't expect the reader to be a computer expert.
The book is manageable in length too. It is not so long as to require multiple sittings to work through it. Once familiar with the content, it is fairly easy to find what you are looking for in the text. The index is complete and useful. When using Lamport, I'm reminded of Kernighan and Ritchie (The C Programming Language) -- Lamport has a similar kind of easy flow to the text.
While the material is not easy, Lamport's book does a good job of conveying use of a highly technical piece of software in a readable fashion. If you are going to use LaTeX, you will want a copy of this book. You will also want a copy of Mittelbach and others LaTeX Companion (2nd edition) to help use the plethora of add-on packages available for LaTeX.
So, download a install of TeX (and LaTeX -- Google the TeX User's Group) for your computer, buy a copy of Lamport (and Mittelbach and others), read through Lamport, and start playing with LaTeX. If you write technical documents that require mathematics, you'll find LaTeX very useful. When you find yourself writing longer documents, the ability to automatically generate tables of contents, lists of figures and tables, bibliographies, and indices will make the software all the more valuable and the time invested learning to use it well-spent.
Welcome to the world of LaTeX. Don't forget to join the TeX User's Group and support development of the software!
Disappointing purchase.......2003-10-05
Seems to be an okay resource for people just getting started. However it is completely inadequate as a reference. Better resources are available on the internet for free.
Like the content, hate the binding........2003-09-28
I am a recent immigrant to the world of LaTeX, and find this book a very adequate guide. My needs are modest, and this book is well enough organized to meet those needs without fuss. Four stars for content.
The cover (paperback) fell off the signatures within the first month, though - the glue failed completely. One star for shoddiness, only because the scale goes no lower.
Three stars averages the two ratings, rounded up.
Everything you need to know about LATEX.......2002-12-19
This is the only book you will need on LATEX, however, you are required to make a few "leaps of faith" in understanding. The latex markup language is extremely powerful and sometimes you have to try things and discover the power for yourself. Having said that, the author does an amazing job of fitting so much information into such a thin book! Stick with it, persist with it a little, and you will come to know and love it. I write many papers in LaTeX and this is the only reference I have ever needed.
