I actually bought this hopeing to to get into a new manga...Luckly, it was great.. a quick summary...Penny is retelling of her sophmore year in high school. Her best friend is with a cheating boyfriend who is gorgous, talented, charming, and a major jerk...one day while studying her geology homework, she discovers fool's gold. She decides that it is appropriate for those popular jerks. She forms an undercover club for girls. Soon she has to deal with school work, falling for guys, her fashion designing, losing a friend... etc

The manga in not in traditional manga format, so for someone who hasn't read one before, it is easy to follow... This was my first by an American author.... It wasn't bad..it was good.

Surprisingly enjoyable!.......2004-07-24

I read various comics and graphic novels, and occasionally like to try something under the radar. This book hasn't garnered much attention it seems, but it's really funny in its own charming way.
There's something odd, yet amusing, about a "southern" Asian woman with a thick country drawl trying to fit in with the big-city crowd. For example, the first thing she says in the entire book is, "Heba! Y'all kin call me Haruo!" There are no giant robots, demons from hell, or graphic sword fights, yet it's crazy as hell because the characters themselves are so bizarre. Both the artwork and writing make it easy to follow along and enjoy this quirky adventure of our main character, Haruo.
Simply put, the book is strange, yet adorable. It's fun to read, and easy to share with with your girlfriend, even if she's not into anime or graphic-novels.
Dark Horse Comics has released two volumes so far, and the third was supposed to be out by now, but Dark Horse has a sketchy record of releasing things on time, so that's the only downside to reading this series. Otherwise, I recommend reading this if you just want an amusing story to read, especially if you have a thing for pretty brunettes.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was impressed with the savvy, wisdom and wit of both writers. What an awesome combination of intellect, experience and just plain old truth. The short anecdotes offered quality reflection time and the honest assessment of the way women pursue men like food when one is hungry was ON POINT! I couldn't be happier with the sage advice, strong yet purposeful rebuke and sincere testimonies of both Joel and Michelle. I am quite a big fan of Michelle and I know that because of her writing I am a better suited female, willing to wait and work for Jesus both now and after my husband "finds me."

I loved this book. You don't have to be single to benefit from this book. It is helping in my current marriage and this book is helping me to guide my daughters in relationships. i recently picked this book up at Mega fest.... i actally met the author and got it signed not knowing what to expcetd i started to read it on the plane ride home and it def change my mindset about my currently relationship i def recommend this book to EVERY WOMAN it will help u to understnad what u were blind too... im ending my relationship because God used this book to speak to me... i plan on reading it again and again until i can get the concepts down in my mind... praise the Lord for the way he uses other people when we are so blind to what we are doing ... enjoy this!!!!!

I just started Roy's latest book, First Hubby, which is a real hoot. WMDTW is funny and fascinating reading. Roy is one of the funniest guys around and very perceptive. Try it, you'll like it and his other books as well.

This book is funnier than Blount's often entertaining other books, and has a hard edge of reality to it as well. It could be used in sociology classes to further illuminate "the battle between the sexes."

Forensics humor piece?.......2006-04-22

I found this title hidden away in a forgotten part of my high school's library a couple years ago, at - coincidentally - the same time I was searching for a humorous book to cut for a forensics piece (speech and debate - not CSI). Flipping through the book, I instantly connected with the dry sarcasm and sometimes dark humor - like when a female gamer describes her first time playing PacMan as though the video physically raped her. Dark, yes. But funny.

The book is divided into various chapters and subchapters, with random lists and comments on the gaming world. Some sections are: "GUI - Gaming under the influence," with the subsection "Levels of Gamer Inebriation" ; "The Phallusy of the Joy Stick" ; and "Top Four Places NEVER to Videogame."

The target group for this book at this point are those who frequented arcades in the early to mid '80's and want to relive the glory days, but as an 18-year-old who still busts out his Game Gear to play Burnout, I was able not only to enjoy much of the humor, but even relish it.

However, after performing my cut version of this piece for Humurous Interpretation in forensics (it was a 10 minute presentation), many people came up to me to not only congratulate me on finding this remarkable book, but also to ask me where they could get a copy. For gamers today who like to play classics, or for those who felt they missed out on the golden age of gaming, this is an almost invaluable read.

EDIT: ON ANOTHER SITE, MICHAEL RUBING (THE AUTHOR) MENTIONED THAT ONLY 15,000 COPIES WERE EVER SOLD, SO THIS IS A PRETTY RARE TITLE. IF YOU FIND ONE AND ARE MODERATELY INTERESTED, BUY IT!

Great piece of Classic Videogaming nostalgia.......2000-01-12

I remember when I first read this book back in 1984. My mother worked at the Tirad publishing company so I got an advance copy of the book, :) Michael gives tips for how to survive (and thus get higher scores) in a variety of popular games at the time. He also has tips on how to dress, arcade etiquitte, general-purpose playing tips, arcades to check out (sadly, most defunct now), etc. The illustrations and photos are humorous, and the book never get self-centered.

If you get a chance to pick this up used somewhere, do so! It's a great piece of 80's memorabillia, especially for the vidiots out there, :)

I enjoyed the setup of the book. It was very funny and had a lot of pictures and illustrating. As well as ways not to get hurt at arcades and a history of video games. The tips that the book gave were how to survive, not to win at a game, because in classics, you can't win, but you can survive.

Toad that was a Prince.......2006-03-10

As in most of the O'Reilly pocket paperbacks, this one is a wonderful resource. If you need a quick check of something you don't recall the details, this will probably assist you admirably. It requires you be knowleable of Toad. If you are looking for something to instruct you in the use of Toad, you may want a more substancial book. This one includes some tips and tricks that should prove beneficial to most experienced Toad users. As a quick reference the layout is good and the table of contents makes it easy to find what you need. There is not alot of meat on these bones, but the meat is pretty good. For more in depth explainations you may want to look at the Toad Handbook by Bert Scalzo and Dan Hotka.

Great little references to the shortcuts you're looking for.......2004-03-02

I've used TOAD awhile now and saw there were 2 books coming out on it - this on and the TOAD handbook. This little reference is excellent. Great that it just happened to be written on the version I'm using now - 7.4. The book however is based on TOAD's core functionality and not really so much on new features. Just skimming through I came across some features I hadn't even used.

It's does touch on the optional add-ins you can get for TOAD (if you get the commericial version) like the DBA module. It had plenty for me on the debugger. If you're looking for a tutorial, this isn't it, though it does remind you about looking in the docs folder for TOAD documentation in PDF. This little guide is a great reference.

Finally something to replace all my post-it notes...........2003-02-01

I have been TOAD-devotee for several years now. I have found it as an indespensible tool for myself, and have converted my Oracle development departments at each of my employers to drop their current SQL tool (SQL*Station and Rapid*SQL in another) and pick up TOAD as the tool of choice for developers and business analyst alike.

Over the years I have found one feature after another that further solidifies my devotion to the tool. Now I finally have a book, that gives yet more hidden secrets. What a wonderful Christmas present it was when I opened it under the Christmas tree.
