Book Description
You never know what's going to happen when cats start talking, but the funny felines in this book are sure to make you laugh! From their frisky love lives to their ponderings on their nine lives, cartoonist Leigh Rubin brings to life the day-to-day antics of cats and kittens in over 120 cartoons in this full-color book!
Customer Reviews:
Funny! Funny! Funny!.......2005-12-24
I got The Wild Life of Cats as soon as it came out! It's great! I also bought several copies for my friends and they love it! The humor is really right-on target and anbody who's the least bit familiar with cats - or ever even seen a cat - will recognize and apprecite the cartoons! All of the cartoons are in color, which is very nice. My kids love it and my cats even recognize themselves!
Pure hilarity and genius!!!.......2005-12-24
I read The Wild Life of Cats and I can't get over how funny it is. Leigh Rubin is a comic genius and that comes across loud and clear in this book!! This is a must read if you love cats and if you love humor. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
fabulous feline funnies ..........2005-12-23
I love all of the Rubes cartoons and books but this one is my favorite so far! Not only is it hilarious, but the color is amazing. This is a great addition to my collection and a perfect gift for any cat-crazy human!
Hilarious feline antics!!!.......2005-12-23
I found "The Wild Life of Cats" to be hilarious and I highly recommend it. You don't have to be a cat lover to enjoy this all color cartoon book. But if you are a cat lover (like me!) this marvelous collection will make you laugh page after page. Rubes knows how to capture humorous insights of animals like no other cartoonist. Any one in his series of Wild Life books (Cows, Dogs, Farm Animals, and Pets) would make an excellent present for family and friends... if they enjoy a good laugh!
Clever, Witty and Funny!.......2005-12-23
There were so many laughs in this book! Rubin has really captured the subtle personality quirks of cats. He's really gotten into the mindset of how a cat would think. Lots of clever wordplay and new takes on classic cat stereotypes. What's also cool is that it's in full color....really unusual for a cartoon collection. My family loved it! We are giving it to all of our many cat loving friends this Christmas.

We received the book on a Saturday and read it cover to cover that evening! My husband laughed so hard that the couch shook! The various levels of humor make his books appealing to every person...and also make the books fun to read over and over again. We see different aspects of the 'joke' with each reading..making the purchase a real bargain ! I encourage you to try this one ...and then expand your "Rubes" library...we certainly have ! :)

Customer Reviews:
Hilarious.......2003-12-27
This book is just too funny! I laughed out loud several times while reading it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the price; $7 is a lot for a 20 minute read.
Wild Life Series.......2003-12-20
The funniest thing I have ever read. I wet myself while reading the series.
I would suggest that you keep a spare pair of underwear handy when reading these books.
The Wild Life of Pets.......2003-11-10
Leigh Rubin captures the wild side of our pets that makes us laugh out loud and immensely glad to claim four-legged critters as our friends. All his cartoon collections are fantastic, but the Wild Life series should appeal to EVERYONE. Beautiful books, and very afforadble. Great gifts for people (and critters) of all ages!
This book will make you laugh!.......2003-05-03
Rubin's masterful understanding of the inner workings of a pet's mind translates into hilariously funny cartoons. I strongly recommend this book as a gift to friends who enjoy laughing!

Book Description
Here the local vigilante is a farmer's wife armed with a pistol and a Bible, the most senior member of the volunteer fire department is a cross-eyed butcher with one kidney and two ex-wives (both of whom work at the only gas station in town), and the back roads are haunted by the ghosts of children and farmers. Michael Perry loves this place. He grew up here, and now -- after a decade away -- he has returned.
Unable to polka or repair his own pickup, his farm-boy hands gone soft after years of writing, Mike figures the best way to regain his credibility is to join the volunteer fire department. Against a backdrop of fires and tangled wrecks, bar fights and smelt feeds, he tells a frequently comic tale leavened with moments of heartbreaking delicacy and searing tragedy.
Customer Reviews:
Truck much better.......2007-08-22
He's got talent as a writer BUT dead people, puke, and sappy back-where-I-belong speeches didn't do it for me.
Garrison Keilor he ain't.......2007-08-03
Good reasons given for not wanting to live in the rural Middle West. No charm, even Lake Wobegone has more.
Good Read.......2007-04-04
This was a great book. Some scenes left me teary-eyed from laughing, and some that were very poignant.
A nice reflection on life's up's & downs from a small town perspective.
backporch stories.......2007-03-09
Nice adventure. Reminds me of sitting on a deck listening to a good storyteller-real stories. True to life. Honest. I felt the small town as many seperate tales as opposed to a story about a small town.
might be to real for some- but it portrays a stark reality for those of us who aren't exposed to the many ways life does happen. Enlightening and endearing.
Introspective in the matters of the human psyche.......2007-01-31
I lived the first 30 years of my life less than 30 miles from New Auburn, Wisconsin. So when I fortuitously discovered that the author hailed from the same neck of the woods, I promptly purchased the book from Amazon.
When it comes to reading for pleasure I read at a snail's pace. A John Grisham novel typically takes me several weeks to read. By comparison, I actually read this book at record breaking speed. It was impossible for me to set this book down for long.
There were times when I was nearly rolling on the floor laughing but there were even more times when I literally shed a tear or two. Most books don't engage me emotionally to this depth but then again most books are not written by such an insightful person,
Especially when it comes to matters of human nature and mortality.
And yes, mortality is an issue that this author brings to the fore on many occasions. In fact, if I had to sum up a central reoccurring theme it would be this. We humans are on this planet for a very short time and are balancing on a very thin and precarious wire each and every day that we rise from our beds.
I never felt that the author was an especially cynical person but rather a realistic one who chose to contemplate death as he continued to learn how to help others to live. His choice of an altruistic occupation simply confirms the lesson that many wise persons have learned, that "there is more happiness in giving than in receiving."
This book moves quickly with plenty of realistic and graphic imagery of his experiences in the rescue field interacting with scores of colorful characters. The author is an excellent wordsmith and is incredibly introspective in the matters of the human psyche. I am hooked and intend on reading his other offerings.

Customer Reviews:
Good for beginners, I guess.......2007-04-09
The last version of Act! I have used was Act! 2000 and would consider myself an expert user of that product. I joined a new company that was using Act! 2006, so I thought I would get a reference book for the product and chose this one. This book is "just OK". Good for someone who has never used Act, I suppose.
As I looked to design a new layout for my recruiting needs and worked to figure out how to intergrate Outlook, I could not find ANY of the answers I was looking for in this book. I'm not kidding. Literally, anything I looked for an answer on was not included in this book. Considering the title of this book, I would expect more.
It's OK as a basic explainer of the features, but for depth, one shoud look elsewhere.
Average.......2007-01-10
The information throughout the book was very beginner level. I consider myself to be a pretty savvy and intensive user and was looking for more details, particularly relating to database migration, and it didn't even get into that area. My overall impression is that someone simply copied all the Help topics and placed them in a book. It may be of use if you've never used Act before.
The Most Complete, Easiest to Use Book on ACT.......2005-11-03
When you get right down to it, ACT is a fairly simple little database program. You put in information about something and it comes back when you want it. If it's so simply you might ask, why buy it at all, why not just use one of the free shareware databases and write your own.
The answer is the thinking that has gone into setting up exactly what a salesman needs as he works with his customer base. The original concept defined the things that the programmers thought you would need: Name, Address, Phone Number, etc. Then the customers started saying things like grouping customers, wife's name, children's birthdays, making a mass e-mail, reminder calendars, schedules. Revision after revision of the software followed, each having more information available, but retaining the basic ease of use of the initial release.
The first couple of chapters of this book cover the new features that are included in ACT 2006, installing the software and converting the files from earlier versions.
The remainder of the book covers every aspect us using ACT from entering your first contact's name to setting up new opportunities, from mass mailings to mass e-mails, and a very neat chapter on add on products that work with the basic ACT package. This includes other software products as well as hardware such as specialized printers for printing labels.
This is the most complete book on ACT that there is. It is also easy to read, easy to find what you are looking for when you need something.
