I enjoyed this book immensely. I laughed, giggled, and thought hummmm as I scanned through the pages. Actually, the author does a spectacular job at conveying what most men are thinking, but are afraid to say. I have read a billion relationship books, and this book, by far, has been the most helpful on my quest to find and/or create the perfect relationship. Let her read it, and you'll spend your time answering helpful and insightful questions; instead of making uncomfortable and unwanted suggestions. Read this book, and your love affair may last forever.

Finally, a book on relationships by someone who has dated.......1999-11-19

In this book, the perceptive author humorously offers insights into the male soul in the matters of love, dating and relationships in the modern world. This is not some pop-psychobabble about interpersonal relationships. It is a funny, well-written guide to love in the nineties written by someone who appears to have actually experienced it, not studied about it in a classroom. Bartula has found a way to take the most widely written subjects in America and make them interesting again. The book effectively serves up a creative and exciting outlook that will open your eyes and ears to some age old subjects. He has several real life "tricks of the trade" that bubble out of the book page after page. A must read for any sex, age, or marital status.

This book is a wonderful read for those single and not...I must say it provides great insight into the male psyche and it made me laugh many times...Whether you are looking for some insight or a connection to your experience, this book is a wonderful read!

Beginning at the Beginning.......2001-11-06

This is a valuable and interesting book for anthropology as well as feminist theory as it asks very foundational questions about the boundaries between nature and culture but in a non-linear fashion. Although Merleau-Ponty is not mentioned, Kirby takes up some kinds of issues that M-P would and did find fascinating: differenc/identity; root questions in the nature of gender; the discordance and concordance of the thinking/sensible being, of being human subject and object.

Substantial reworking of 'differance'.......2000-05-18

Brilliant critical poststructuralist feminist text.

As a former anthropologist Vicky Kirby is obsessed with materiality and undertakes a incredible task of redefining what that might mean in current postructuralist (western) thought.

First chapter surveys the problematic identity of the famous semiotic 'sign' of linguistics. She utilises the writings of Jaques Derrida extensively (his idea of differance and writing in the general sense), but makes crucial, subtle, fundamental differences.

She does not entirely conflate the binaries, as many poststructuralist theorist presume to do. Instead she reworks the bar of duality into a hologramatic partitioning - infinite internal devisions which leave neither materiality nor ideality intact.

In the 2nd + 3rd chapters she critiques the work of Drucilla Cornell, Judith Butler, Donna Haraway + others. She demonstrate their inadvertant reinscription of the binaries they seek to conflate.

Final chapters look at materiality and corporeality in cyberspace. She critisises prevailing logocentric view on technology and the body.

Essential reading for students, academics looking for ways out of relativist poststructural positions. Serves as grounding for a cultural materialist perspective(?).

Very difficult reading, though perhaps necessarily so. Presumes some knowledge of Ferdinand D. Saussures 'A Course in General Linguistics' and postructuralist readings of this eg. Jaques Derrida's 'Of Gramatology.'

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Interesting...and enlightening.......2000-04-23

This book introduces what humans are made of, and bonds the boundary between our feelings, and our 'flesh' side. It is good if you are interested in somewhat of a metaphysical approach, and I recommend it for anyone with the time and open mind to read it.

Doesn't work on Macs.......2007-08-18

1 star because I was unable to open the files on a Mac. 0 stars for Amazon not mentioning anywhere on this page that the DVD rom won't work on a Mac. The book is probably as great as others have said. I've had other books from these folks and they were very good. The book I received clearly says "DVD included for Windows" in the lower left hand corner. Try clicking on the picture of this book and enlarging: The exclusion is not there. If you have a Mac look elsewhere, I'm sending mine back.

If You're Serious About Learning Premiere Pro 2 This is the Book to Get.......2007-06-09

At this writing I'm about halfway through the book. I've run across one or two typos and one case where the title templates weren't available for a particular lesson (that's probably more of a problem with my version of Premiere than this book & DVD). I'm going through this book cover to cover rather than spending $900+ on UCLA Extension classes that I can't afford, especially when I don't know if I'll end up getting any work after investing that time and money. This is supposed to be the same book that they use for their classes. I know of someone who learned this software the same way and is working full time as an editor now. If you're serious about learning Premiere Pro 2 this is the book to get.

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Classroom in a Book is a good book for beginners if you can get past the numerous grammatical, spelling, and incorrect and missing steps found throughout the book.

I would recommend this book but only after warning people that sometimes it gets a little frustrating when you have to re-read the same sentence over and over trying to figure out what the author is talking about, since two or three steps are missing.

If I was the author of this book I would be asking the editor (that is if there was any) for my money back.

Well worth the time........2007-01-05

I was actually put off by the Adobe press books after going over their enclosed "manuals". But this book gets you into the program in a manner that is teaching and reasonably pleasant. If you can make yourself stick with the lesson format, following the described steps, you will learn the basics of this program. And for Premiere Pro, that is saying a lot. This will help that scary learning curve.
