Del Dotto's advice doesn't pay off.......2004-09-16
The book is ok at best. The back cover makes some grandiose claims like his financial empire is growing $20 million per year. In fact, Del Dotto filed bankruptcy in 95 or 96. John T Reed has more info on Del Dotto on his website.
You're better off avoiding this one.
Still a worthwhile read.......2004-07-11
I bought the harback book for full retail $19.95 back in 1989 and it was worth every penny. This book got me thinking about ways to make money. I found the foreclosure advice particularly beneficial. Back then, like now, foreclosures were at all an all time high. It was great being to able to help people and make money at the same time.
I also found the advice on picking up merhandise at auctions very valuable. Great cash flow strategy.
His home study program was state of the art. Seminars outstanding. Nobody packed more information than Dave DelDotto did.
Excellent book on real estate investing.......2003-11-04
Dave DelDotto was in the early 80's through 1993 the top guru on real estate and building wealth. I bought this book back in circa 1989 after seeing his informercial fortified by a friend that indicated he made a small fortune following DelDotto's techniques.
This book offers a lot of good advice on buying foreclosures and distressed property, tax liens and discounted mortgages.
In other parts of the book DelDotto tells you how to but all sorts of items; cars, clothes, jewelery for pennies on the dollar and then generate cash flow via auctions.
DelDotto's keys to success is worth the price of the book alone. You will develop proper mental mindset that can take you from where you are to where you want to be.
After buying the book, I ahate to admit this, but my buddy allowed me to dub his audio and video tapes. The material was powerful and positive. Feeling a little guilty, after I bought a few properties I went out and ordered both the basic program and the advanced 'Millionaire Training."
DelDotto was not only one of the first to teach powerful wealth building, he was also one of the best.
I find it interesting that much of what DelDotto taught is the same information in the so called newer books today. Not much has changed, only the names. The only difference is that DelDotto offered a lot more meat in his programs.
How to Make Nothing But Money by Dave DelDotto.......2003-09-02
I purchased this work at least a decade ago or more. It has been
helpful in identifying foreclosure properties in real estate.
Buyers need to do the detailed investigatory work prior to
purchasing a property. In addition, it is to your advantage
to get involved with some of the fix-up jobs yourself. There
are government programs i.e. Title I loans available to help
get low cost money to cash-poor property buyers. Dave also
describes the vast auction market where it is possible to
obtain merchandise at a fraction of the cost. I have benefited
personally with regard to identifying merchandise for literally
pennies on the dollar. There are tremendous deals out there
for buyers making purchases at estate sales-particularly
if you have cash in hand. You need to obtain the services
of a good home inspector if you are to purchase a property.
It pays to hire someone knowledgable because they will advise
you with regard to potentially dangerous structural problems
and items requiring expensive repairs. It pays to make a trip
to the municipal inspector's office to look at the property
folder. This will contain many details such as major
repairs, fires, citations and a whole host of problems
that the seller may not readily admit to initially.
Now is a good time to buy because interest rates are low and
the government has many meritorious programs available for
first-time buyers, teachers/educators, disabled persons,
retirees and a whole host of constituencies. Matthew Lesko
publishes some complementary books on government grants
which may be helpful to you. Dave Del Dotto describes a
wealth of opportunities available in tax lien or certificate
sales. Sometimes an investor can secure the entire property
for pennies on the dollar. This general area will require
some in depth study; however, the payoff is worth the investment
in time and money. Analysis paralysis can be a problem.
When you've located a good deal-act on it because others
may secure the opportunity while you are still contemplating
whether or not to take the plunge.
Good effort, but redundant and surprisingly useless........2003-08-15
After hearing good things about this book, I bought it, read it, and was quite disappointed. Deldotto does a lot of rambling where he could have made his points in a much more clear and concise way. There's a lot of filler here and I got the distinct impression that he was trying his hardest to make something that could have been a pamphlet, into a book.
For example, he outlines that a good way to get below market cost deals on consumer products is through government public auctions. Then later in the real estate section, he goes through the topic government public auctions all over again.
Deldotto's writing style is bland and after finishing this book, I had to ask myself, "What did I learn?" I thought about it for a while and couldn't really come up with much.
This book is a good try I suppose but it seems as if the author is trying to cash in on the popularity of what I call 'money-help' books by passing off a sophmore effort in the guise of some sort of ultimate bible.
You could and would do better with a different book.

An admiring biography with lots of excerpts to enjoy.......2005-11-22
Today is a good day I think for remembering the life and legacy of Robert Benchley, since it is the sixtieth anniversary of his all-too-early death on November 21, 1945. Babette Rosmond's quick-reading little book is a fine way to do that -- especially if you're someone like me, whose admiration for Benchley as a writer exceeded what you actually knew about his life.
Published in 1970 and acknowledging the "generous, enthusiastic help" of Benchley's widow and sons, "His Life and Good Times" is not an in-depth scholarly biography or a path-breaking piece of literary criticism. It is, however, a good general biography, full of entertaining stories and revealing insights, and also richly sprinkled with excerpts from the subject's writing, including some of his movie scripts. It's also a highly positive look at Benchley's life -- the author was fortunate to meet Benchley during her early professional years, and if she wasn't close enough to consider him a friend, at least seems to consider herself blessed to have had the chance to work with him. And so while there are hints about things like alcoholism, extramarital affairs, and changing relationships with people like the members of the Vicious Circle, there's not really quite enough information for the otherwise-uninformed reader to be sure what the true nature of circumstances really was.
This book is a quick read and an entertaining look at a most interesting and talented man. While serious students will no doubt want more (and I plan to look into more comprehensive biographies of the man soon enough), fans of Benchley's life and work and that of his Algonquin associates will find this a worthwhile place to start.
Book Description
The 1960s was a time of social and generational upheaval felt with particular intensity in the melting pot of New York City. A culture of corruption pervaded the New York Police Department, where payoffs, protection, and shakedowns of gambling rackets and drug dealers were common practice. The so-called blue code of silence protected the minority of crooked cops from the sanction of the majority.
Into this maelstrom came a working class, Brooklyn-born, Italian cop with long hair, a beard, and a taste for opera and ballet. Frank Serpico was a man who couldn't be silenced -- or bought -- and he refused to go along with the system. He had sworn an oath to uphold the law, even if the perpetrators happened to be other cops. For this unwavering commitment to justice, Serpico nearly paid with his life.

GOOD COP...BAD COP..........2007-09-30
The late Peter Maas was a master of investigative reporting. Nowhere are his skills more evident than in this story about Frank Serpico, a police officer who tried to rid the New York City Police Department of the corruption that was rampant amongst its rank and file. Eventually, Serpico's efforts led to the establishment of the Knapp Commission, which would do a large scale investigation of police corruption and the policies and procedures within the Police Department itself that would allow such to flourish. Unfortunately, his efforts initially fell, for the most part, upon deaf ears. Nothing of any real import was really done until Serpico was grievously wounded in a gun battle with a drug dealer in 1971 that left all of New York, including Serpico, wondering as to what really happened?
Serpico was a Brooklyn boy who had always looked up to law enforcement and grew up wanting to preserve and protect. Little did he know, until he actually joined the police department, that preserve and protect seemed to pertain to the bribery, graft, and extortion in which many police officers, at the time, engaged. Serpico's initial shock gave way to disillusionment, and he refused to accept the money that other officers took as part of their due. His naiveté was soon replaced by disgust at finding out how rife was the corruption within the New York City Police Department. That soon turned to anger, however, as no one seemed interested in cleaning up the cesspool of corruption in which he worked. Although he tried, all he got was the runaround, until his near fatal shooting.
This is a riveting account of Serpico's travails, and time has not diminished the author's riveting account of how Serpico took the system on. The author paints an interesting portrait of a man who was truly one of New York's finest cops. Although somewhat of a maverick and a loner, Serpico was a dedicated police officer, who only desired that his fellow officers follow the very same laws that they were to enforce. Serpico defied the system, and the system nearly defeated him. This book is simply a page-turner, and one that those who like the true crime genre will really enjoy.
SERPICO.......2007-09-29
This IS A TRUE STORY!!! This is the story of ONE honest cop/detective that actually tried to clean up crime in the "Big Apple" and got a bullet in his head thanks to his fellow officers due to his bringing in the FBI to clean up the NYPD itself....full of corruption!!!!!
This man deserves to be awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR.......strong words, yet few people in the history of our country have sacrificed as much as him and very unfortnately, only lip service is given in support by the Congress of the United States.
Frank Serpico is a modern AMERICAN HERO of the HIGHEST ORDER!!!!!!!
By the way, Mr. Serpico has to live in a foreign country to protect himself from taking a finalizing "hit" from friends of the corrupt officers of the NYPD.....I'm not saying ALL the officers are corrupt but far too many are!
Mobbing is a man-made disaster. But it can be avoided........2007-05-23
Co-workers, supervisors - and even the people he served - mobbed and bullied Frank Serpico so severely, he never
got over it. Even though mobbing has been around since the beginning of time, it is frightening
to know that - in America - mobbing is encouraged - even though it can be avoided (thus saving someone's life).
Bottom line: mobbing is a management pathology and a management failure. And worse, in all cases, it can be
partially 'cured' through prevention policies. Back in Serpico's day, corruption was the rule and the mob was
to be feared. Even though this may be partially true today, what employees need to fear the most is management
participation in bullying and mobbing. Worse still, human resources takes the bullying and mobbing to
a new level. In some cases, they become goons on behalf of an organization. But this should never happen.
To understand mobbing fully, a researcher should read this book and highlight scenes that correspond with
the points Dr. Heinz Leymann made about mobbing: i.e. attacks on social relations, isolation, etc...
Only then, when we fully understand the magnitude of mobbing, can we work on solutions. Solutions we discover
today will save someone's life tomorrow.
The only honest cop in New York. .......2006-04-08
Peter Maas (who sadly died in 2001) was best known for his career as the historian of the Mafia, corruption, and whistleblowing. His first book, The Valachi Papers, was an instant best-seller and kicked off the craze for all things Mafia that swept the seventies after its publication.
Serpico tells the story of Frank Serpico, the whistleblower cop who was determined to clean up corruption in the police force that he loved so much. It is as much about the policeman code of silence in the face of wrongdoing in the department as it is about Serpico himself. The book was also an instant best-seller at the time of publication and was the seed for an award-winning film by Stanley Lumet and a television series.
As a book, Serpico is a fascinating look at the issue of police corruption during the 1970s. Frank Serpico is really a hero of his time, embodying much of the confusion and changing priorities of the era. The prose is quite readable, but suffers a bit from hyperbole and some poor editing which meant that sections were occasionally repeated as the story progresses.
Recommended for true crime fans who would rather read about corruption than serial killers. It should also appeal to readers interested in the attitude towards police in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Three and a half stars.
An examination of integrity.......2006-01-11
The truth is often unpleasant. This verity is the highlight of the society surrounding Frank Serpico.
It's remarkable how anyone could sustain the mental pressure that was brought upon this person. We're just reading about it. Serpico was living through this very real tension.
Maas does a good job of setting up Serpico as the oddball in the group from his unconventional dress sense to his unwillingness to comrpomise his integrity and partake of the pervadiong corruption.
His journalistic streak does creep in from time to time and the narrative can occasionaly drag while he is setting up some sequences. This would put it at 4 stars
The purpose of the protagonist is an example that is well brought out by the book and that's why I think most people interested in some civic or public office should read it as a source of inspiring personal integrity - this gets it 5 stars.

Book Description
According to legend, anyone who wandered into the labyrinth in Ancient Crete never came out again. Some labyrinths may have offered patterns for an erotic spring dance. Those on the floors of Medieval cathedrals represent mathematical perfection–and walking their paths was a symbolic approach to the divine.
From ancient Mediterranean coin patterns to the great French cathedral labyrinths to contemporary cornfield mazes, labyrinths and mazes have appeared all over the world, but never have so many been created as in today’s revival, on farms, and in parks, churches, hospitals, and spas across the country.
In his charmingly quirky investigation of an image that has inspired countless beautiful patterns and mysterious practices, David Willis McCullough offers an irresistible way to enjoy their enduring appeal.
Customer Reviews:
Unrevealing.......2005-01-01
I was fascinated by mazes when I was a child. I still have books of complicated mazes that I solved with notes on how long it took me to solve them. Mazes are great fun. And they are interesting too. Which is what first attracted me to this book, subtitled A Journey Through Labyrinths and Mazes. But I was hesitant about reading this for one main reason: what was there about mazes and labyrinths to talk about for over 200 pages? Not enough, it turns out.
The book starts out well enough. Mr. McCullough takes us through some interesting points: the difference between a labyrinth and a maze, the variations of the Cretan labyrinth myth, the labyrinth as a meditative tool (for example, the Chartres labyrinth), the rise of the labyrinth as a garden sculpture, and much more. The problem is, there just isn't enough known about this subject to make a book this long.
Mr. McCullough would have been better off condensing this text to 150 pages or less. He ends up repeating himself quite a bit as the book goes on and the "new age" applications of the labyrinth that is discussed at the end of the book I found mostly uninteresting. Also, his discussion of the appearance of the labyrinth figure across ancient cultures is handled quite poorly and never gets developed as it should.
The labyrinth, by its very nature, is mysterious and books should be written about this subject. Mr. McCullough has made a valiant attempt that has its pluses but it repetitiveness and superficiality weaken it. I'm still waiting for something more in-depth, revealing...better.
Book Description
Advance Roulette is a comprehensive and entertaining look into one of the most popular games in the casino. This book offers 12 methods of play and then outlines the Money Management moves needed to properly play Roulette. By taking away the random, uncontrolled method that many people use at Roulette, this book concentrates on giving the reader intelligent ways of betting. The systems are aimed at the players with small to medium Bankrolls and urges the use of Discipline techniques that will kick off small but consistent returns. The explanation of the REGRESSION SYSTEM is worth the price of the book alone.

Ton-O-Systems.......2007-08-03
It has a lot of systems in it - and I mean a lot. Most of them are even money systems but I was glad to see that at least some of them cover the other betting options. Honestly most of them are not worth considering unless you feel particularly lucky, but there are some interesting ones in there, and it may give you some ideas if you're working on your own system. He puts more emphasis on streaks (series of wins or losses) that I would like, however he does have an eye for money management which is good. Overall I liked it and have kept it.
exactly the same book as "John Patrick roulette".......2001-09-04
This books explains a lot progressions and money management in roulette, but none of the strategies in this book will give you and edge over the house. It's for recreational players only, who want to have fun only.

Book Description
By definition, information security exists to protect your organization's valuable information resources. But too often information security efforts are viewed as thwarting business objectives. An effective information security program preserves your information assets and helps you meet business objectives. Information Security Policies, Procedures, and Standards: Guidelines for Effective Information Security Management provides the tools you need to select, develop, and apply a security program that will be seen not as a nuisance but as a means to meeting your organization's goals. Divided into three major sections, the book covers: writing policies, writing procedures, and writing standards. Each section begins with a definition of terminology and concepts and a presentation of document structures. You can apply each section separately as needed, or you can use the entire text as a whole to form a comprehensive set of documents. The book contains checklists, sample policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and a synopsis of British Standard 7799 and ISO 17799. Peltier provides you with the tools you need to develop policies, procedures, and standards. He demonstrates the importance of a clear, concise, and well-written security program. His examination of recommended industry best practices illustrates how they can be customized to fit any organization's needs. Information Security Policies, Procedures, and Standards: Guidelines for Effective Information Security Management helps you create and implement information security procedures that will improve every aspect of your enterprise's activities.
Customer Reviews:
This book is truly a treasure of knowledge........2006-11-19
Information security policies and all of in this book. This is a great advice for business to start, continue, follow on their journey. Thomas has captured the essence of what the business of all levels want to know when it comes to developing IT policies and systems. This book is must read for all of business executive.
Good, but should have been edited.......2005-02-24
I just started developing InfoSec policies for my company, and was having a hard time getting started. The Web is filled with sample documents and articles for specific documents, but I needed a resource that assumed I was starting from scratch and would help me build up a good library of content to satisfy our auditors.
So I was a little excited to stumble across this book. It lays a good foundation for what's needed in a security policy library, and steps through the development of the major document types: policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. It's filled with lots of samples, checklists, templates, and other starting points for everything I was looking for.
One glaring problem, though, which by itself drops the rating 1-2 stars: there is an embarrasingly high number of grammar, syntax, and occassionally even semantic, mistakes. Even though these kind of problems are one of my biggest pet peeves, I might overlook them ... except the author makes multiple statements about proofreading your work before submitting to management!! It seems pretty clear that the book was rushed to publication without a serious round of review (I wonder if I put more editorial time into this review than they did into the book...). Even though the book was written for techno-types, there is no excuse for such egregious errors.
Overall, though, this is a decent resource to help with infosec policy development. Just make sure it's not the only book you use. If they would issue an update, this would become a valuable addition to your library. However, the edition I purchased in Feb 2005 was released in 2002, so I wouldn't expect any updates soon.
Really good.......2004-11-25
Really good for anyone doing infosec policy dev.
this will save you a ton of time.
Excellent practical guidebook.......2004-06-19
This is the best book I've seen (so far!) about writing infosec policies and associated materials. Tom Peltier refers directly to the ISO 17799 structure and gives helpful advice on what to include under the ten sections. More than that, he guides the reader through the *process* of writing and implementing policies, even including a brief chapter on my own specialism, security awareness, and suggestions on writing style.
My main quibble with the book is its inconsistency in the level of detail e.g. 41 of the 191 main text pages are devoted to information classification. There are perhaps too many lists and tables for my liking, but these may be useful as reminders of things to include.
Overall, the book is helpful if you are about to write infosec policies and want to avoid some of the more common pitfalls.
Good book for Infosec Management.......2002-04-11
If you want to find out the relation between Policies, Procedures and Standards buy this book. Although the flow of text is somewhat discontinuous but the author clearly explains the underlying concepts. The examples are very illustrative and have a real world feel. The author has been on the frontlines (clearly evident throughout the text) and this distinguishes the book from rest in the pack. Very few books talk about ISO 17799 and BS7799 in detail. This book goes beyond just reproducing the standard and explains the positioning of such guidelines. The tables and checklists found in the appendices alone are worth many times the cost of the book.
