Buy another book!.......2005-08-18
This book was ok, however, I was hoping more detail and less basic information. It provides good info for a new real estate player, but seasoned players who want more information on what and how can do better by contacting their CPA. I was hoping to get more and in the end I found -0- ideas that I was not aware off. Rename the book-real estate tax relief for newbies! Seasoned players do not BUY!
Don't waist your money - Go to the Library.......2004-05-12
There is nothing special about this book that makes it worth so much more than other similar books that cost a lot less. Most of it is dumb common sense and is freely available online from the IRS website. Your first money saving tip, find another book. It really is a rip off for what you get. This book is very shallow and very vague. Where's the beef? The quality is not much better than a glued magazine. Go to the library.

For Godsakes, stick to one format!!!.......2005-07-11
I've been following the Elfquest series since 1982. Once the extremely talented Wendy Pini started using different writers and artists, I stopped buying them by issues, instead waiting for compilations. The only problem is that while I keep waiting for 'coming soon' compilations, the damned formats of these various volumes keep changing. Sometimes the titles are different. Sometimes the art has been rearranged here and there. When a new version of an old compilation is released, it doesn't list the original publishing date, it lists the current publishing date. I'm getting frustrated and tired of buying issues that I believe are new stories only to find that, hey, I have this in a different format. In this case, I bought both 1 and 2 of this manga-like format. The format I already had, as it turned out, fit easily into one volume, but shrinking them down to manga-sized not only takes away from the artwork, but ends up spreading out into multiple volumes. I had backed away for a very long time on buying any more compilations because of the constant confusion of reprinting in different formats. Now it is going to take Wendy Pini handing me a collection personally before I even attempt to sort out what's new and what's not.
Buy it with caution .......2004-08-08
This book has the good, the bad and the ugly all rolled into one and out of order. All in black and white, 3 or 4 comics have been taken apart and re-assembled in this little volume. Yes, it's manga style, but usually manga has consistent art and story, which this does not. Some of the stories thrown in here are just terrible, and those not familiar with EQ may be turned off forever. Those who have been with the series for almost 20 years already know to avoid the really rotten stuff that came out after the original artist stopped doing the series. Some of the new work is ok, but alot was just garbage. I am disappointed to see that they threw in the really lame stories alongside Wendy's superb stories and considered all of it true EQ, even the stuff that was just called 'what if?' by Richard when it came out in comic form 10 years ago. That was the only consolation in seeing the type of sub-par talent take over EQ for almost 10 years the way the way it has. Now Wendy has come back, but it may be too late -( see Searcher and the Sword).
But in this book, for example, those who remember the heart wrenching tale of how Skywise's parents were killed, get to see that magnificent 30 page story is now broken up into scattered pieces, and you go from admiring the flawless rendering of Skywise when he was young and 'in love' to the blocky, off tilted drawing showing a robot/satellite laying waste to the Wolfrider tribe in which Skywise is barely recognizeable. This is actually part of one of the 'New Blood' tales done when the rules about continuity were largely ignored and the stories agonizingly hokey. Those new to these stories may be in for some confusion. The sudden transition from one fragment of a story with some guy's half-a**ed art to Wendy's superb flowing lines and subtlety is confusing. I'm not sure why the terrible is being mixed with the good here and all being considered EQ canon.
Having said all that, if you are new to the series and just trying it out, maybe you'll like it, maybe just shrug and throw it out, whatever. The price isn't bad for what it is, but calling it manga is excessive - it's a poor copy and maybe not the best initiation into either manga or Elfquest

The ultimate Stephen King bibliography.......2003-06-08
Horror Plum'd: An International Stephen King Bibliography and Guide (the title of which is derived from a passage in John Milton's Paradise Lost) is an amazing reference work best suited for those with a scholarly interest in the writings of the modern master of the macabre; it is also a work that the most fanatical of Stephen King fans will want to add to their collection. This book is not for casual fans because it is almost exclusively a bibliographic resource. After a short introductory essay, Collings gets right to work detailing the massive inventory of Stephen King items released all over the world in the years between 1960 and 2000. The bibliography is broken up into five sections, the first and largest of which is a rundown of all the books. Section A references novels, short story collections, nonfiction works, and multimedia adaptations of King's works (audiotapes, audio CDs, computer games, films, stage plays, teleplays and miniseries, and movies). It almost boggles the mind to see page after page detailing the publication history of Stephen King novels in countries throughout the world. Collings provides very short summaries and offers brief comments about the major works as he proceeds in a chronological fashion, and a limited number of images from different versions of King's books are included in these pages. Section B is devoted to short fiction including published excerpts from longer works and screenplays published in anthologies, and Collings provides short comments on many of the more interesting items found here. Section C is devoted to King's short nonfiction writings. I find this section to be particularly useful because it includes references to all the books by other authors and editors which feature introductions and forewords penned by Stephen King. Section D references the locations of King's limited poems, and Section E sweeps up what is left: audio and visual adaptations of original King materials not appearing in book form. This is followed by a title index of King's works.
Horror Plum'd is the culmination of over fifteen years of hard work on the part of Collings. Between 1985 and 1996, he published three less comprehensive Stephen King bibliographies (The Many Facets of Stephen King, The Annotated Guide to Stephen King: A Primary and Secondary Bibliography of the Works of America's Premier Horror Writer, and The Work of Stephen King: An Annotated Bibliography and Guide), but Horror Plum'd is the final, comprehensive edition of his work on this subject. Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind about this book is the fact that it includes only a select few references to articles and reviews of King's work. This 547 page text is by and large devoted only to the work of Stephen King himself and not the cottage industry of King pundits. Collings is working on a companion book to Horror Plum'd that will be exclusively devoted to scholarship, criticism, and reviews. One can hardly imagine just how large such a volume will turn out to be.

Book Description
"Sport in Society brings needed attention and great insight to the expanding power of sport in culture, especially in regard to race, gender, and class. This anthology covers an exceptional range of problems, topics, and issues in pieces that are accessible and to the point. . . . An ideal collection, with substantial and provocative individual selections, a diverse and stimulating array of subjects and, behind it all, a commitment to conscience and social responsibility that is all the more remarkable for its rarity. This scholarly and readable anthology will be of great value to academics, professionals, and the thinking public. For those who not only enjoy sports but also care about them and their role in society, this work is essential reading. Serious, but fun, down-to-earth but not glib, Sport in Society sheds new light on both our sports and our society." --Professor Michael Real Telecommunications and Film Department San Diego State University The crucial issues of the day coalesce around the sports arena. Bridging the gap between scholarship and journalism, Sport in Society takes on the key topics of our times--race, gender, and violence--as they play out in the world of sports. Richard Lapchick, a leading commentator and activist in the area of sport sociology, brings together well-known writers from both academia and journalism to examine many of the more pressing issues that confront sports. In addition to the topics of gender, race, and violence, other parts of the book explore the role of the media, the international scene, and some real-life heroes. Sport in Society will be of interest to individuals across a range of disciplines, what one reviewer calls the "jock academics" in sociology, anthropology, physical education, and communication. It can also be used as a supplement in courses on sport sociology in sociology and physical education.

Customer Reviews:
Don't.......2007-03-13
I am stepping through Vegas movie studio 6 and into full 7.
I'm right at the stage where I need someone to lay it all out for me.
And since I'm on a small island on Alaska I thought a book would do.
One of the first screen images in this book had "Vegas 4" on the title bar. The procedures and references are not up to date.
I'm a bit of a writer and I was actually afraid to read the book so as not to be brainwashed of what I've got already.
So I didn't read it. I sent it back. I need clarity. I think I'm going to buy
Sony's "The Digital Video and Audio Production Book from Sony Media Software updated for Vegas® 7."
It's on their site, couldn't find at Amazon.
Amazon is great they even paid postage back.
so the two stars are for amazon and for those who have just found a copy of V4 under that pile in the corner.
Must be a better book.......2007-02-18
There is a problem in getting an easy tutorial for Vegas Movie Studio but this is not it. The book is full of jargon and not too helpful in learning. The examples are woven into the text making it difficult to follow explanations.
I would not recommend as a source of learning Movie Studio
Basic Introduction to an earlier version........2006-11-03
I found two main problems with this book. The main disadvantage is that the program has now been upgraded from version 5, as described in the book, to the new version 6. As a result there are major differences in the operations being described which would not be acceptable to a purchaser of the latest version. Secondly there is no index at the back of the book, making it very difficult to quickly find any particular item.
I much preferred Vegas 6 Revealed by Doug Sahin which gives an excellent step by step approach. However, this latter book relates to the main Vegas program and therefore includes features which are not in the Vegas Movie Studio program. Furthermore it does not include the DVD Architect program which is covered in the Instant book, albeit an earlier version than the current one. To summarise, if you have the earlier version of Vegas Movie studio there is plenty in the Instant book for you to get started, even without an index.
A book that works really well. Thanks Douglas Spotted Eagle.......2006-04-04
First of all, I met Douglas Spotted Eagle in a Vegas forum. He was very generous in trying to help a guy out with HARDLY ANY NLE experience. He was direct in answering my questions and pointed me in the direction of his dvd tutorial and book. I bought the book first - and after reading it, it made MUCH more sense than the horrible Sony manuals. I couldn't make heads or tails of them and DSE's book was a GODSEND!! I feel I have the confidence to venture into the editing realm. Thank you so much Douglas Spotted Eagle for creating a book that makes sense to the newbies out there. I feel I'll be ready for the upgrade one of these days and that I have a pretty good understanding how things work now....
Stick with the Sony Tutorials.......2006-03-06
As a novice I found this book lacked clarity and focus. There is too much Video Editors jargon thrown in at times, some of the diagrams just do not get across the point trying to be made, and often the point is not clearly described in plain language. The simple method of doing something is sometimes overlooked in favour of a more complex selection.
This book may be ok if you have quite a lot of previous experience of professional video editing on a PC, but I found the Sony "Show me how Tutorials" that come with the software to be far more concise, to the point and enable the work to be done. As a beginner this book has been of little use.
