Comprehensive, Well Organized, Well Researched.......1999-01-28
As a real estate investor I often refer to this book when I am in need help making a decision. It is the next best thing to having a seasoned partner who has been through many market cycles. As a Licensed Commercial Real Estate Appraiser and Broker I am impressed with the material as well as how it is presented. While lifetime of practical knoweledge is somehow reduced to a single 900 page plus book, it is not "dumbed down" for mass appeal purposes. Although I was introduced to this book through a course at Boston University I found it's format more interesting than academic. When investing your money in real estate it is better to read a book like this and learn than, to "just do it" and learn the hard way, believe me. This book is a keeper for your professional library.
Book Description
Although designed to be used with the Mortgage-Backed Securities book, this workbook contains sufficient explanatory material to stand alone. You will discover ways to: Successfully calculate MBS prepayment rates; Combine MBS analytical techniques for maximum effect; Understand and manipulate scenario, binomial and option-adjusted spread analysis.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book; stands on its own.......2001-10-24
While you can use this workbook with the text, it is also very useful by itself. In fact, I didn't know it was a companion to a book until after I bought it.
The topics are covered in enough detail to answer all those small questions I have. In addition, it's the only book I've found that leads the reader through the details of building a simple prepayment model. There are some advanced questions in the book for more mathematically inclined readers.
Limited, but Very Good Nonetheless.......2001-07-08
This workbook was written as a companion to "Mortgage-Backed Securities" by Davidson and Herskovitz. Frankly, I think this book works much better on its own and I would recommend Fabozzi's "Handbook of Mortgage-Backed Securities" instead as a general guide to the subject. The workbook confines itself to a limited number of topics but it covers these very well. Beginning with simple cash flow and yield calculations, the authors move on to provide guidance on (simple!) prepayment modelling, basic structuring, the yield curve and regulatory tests. The approach is attractively practical, and I think of this text as a useful secret weapon to have up one's sleeve.

Best book I ever red about mortgage-backed securities. I recomend this book for everyone who work with mort.back securities.

Droll Dragons and Funny Fighters! - format 5.5 x 8 Journey back to Lodoss Island for tales of dragons and dwarves, paladins and princesses, magic and...madness?! Lodoss in the handy petite size!.......2003-06-10
For those who have seen the RECORD OF LODOSS WAR television series, you might remember the little bonus bits at the end of each episode of "WELCOME TO LODOSS ISLAND" where the cast was redone in superdeformed mode, also known as chibi form. In this manga though, the whole original tale of LODOSS WAR is redone in a comical parody by the series creator, Ryo Mizuno. In the first volume, the first half of the OVA series is redone telling how the inept knight wannabe Parn and his friends seek to bring down the chaotic plans of the troublemaking witch Karla. She has taken over the body of a gorgeous priestess, and the dwarf Ghim and his sorcerer friend Slayn wish to free her from the deceased witch's control. Running into the farcical King Kashew, Parn teams up with him in an effort to rescue the fair Princess Fiana, who falls head over heels for Parn's stout priest friend Etoh. In the end, a major battle goes on between Lodoss and their neighboring island of Marmo. But Karla's plans to involve both kingdoms fails, and Ghim's friend is freed from her. The second volume takes place two yeara later where Parn and Deedlit head off to King Kashew's kingdom, only to find it involved in a civil war with a neighboring tribe who are using a powerful efreet to try and take over the desert. Deedlit makes a pact with a powerful djinn to stop them. There are some serious bits of people dying in this chapter, but still done in a spoofish manner. WELCOME TO LODOSS ISLAND is a really funny manga, but mostly intended for the enjoyment of those who have already sampled one of the previous LODOSS anime or manga titles. Artist Rei Hyakuyashiki does great work at making our favorite fantasy heroes look stupid and clutzy. Definately look it up!

An Awe inspiring book. .......2005-04-22
Jolie Otter is a woman who is in an abusive marrige. But, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, she survives. D.B. Cowell touches on a subject that not many people have the courage to talk about, let alone write a book about it. I highly recomend this book to anyone who has lived or is living this hell. It is a survival guide. Otter's husband can break her heart but not her spirit. Jolie is a role model for abused people everywhere. It truely is an awe inspiring book. Please buy this book.
Terrific Book.......2005-02-11
This book is well written and lets you see the life through an abused woman's eyes. This is a great book for someone who would like to learn more about abusive relationships. It describes the heartache, the pain, and most imporantly the hope.
Helpful.......2005-01-18
Readers who have or are experiencing domestic abuse will find this book helpful in knowing that they are not alone. The book is written as though the victim is talking directly to you, suggesting that you learn from her experience.
A Husband From Hell:The Jolie Otter Story.......2005-01-06

Book Description
Since it was published in 1975, Play for Today has become a leading introduction to writing and producing drama on television. Irene Shubik, in a unique survey of British television in its Golden Age, describes the role of the producer in the making of an original television play, from initial discussions with writers to broadcast. In tracing the rise of television drama in the context of her own career, she details the intellectual, financial and technical problems of productions, and includes a fascinating chapter on the effect of reactions from critics and viewers. In this new edition, Shubik adds a firsthand account of how the popular Rumpole of the Bailey series evolved and how she developed the critically and commercially successful The Jewel in the Crown.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good First Book on Endgames.......2006-11-06
This is a breezy, chatty book in Robertie's own unique style, the best feature of which is his positive attitude encouraging you to get out there and WIN! It's a good "first" book, written at an assume-nothing level, not trying or pretending to be complete, deliberately leaving out more advanced and esoteric material. It starts with the basic checkmates (omitting the relatively rare and quite difficult king+knight+bishop vs. king), and goes on to present a good selection of important endings. The descriptions make for easy reading and the discussions and play are easy to follow.
One omission that I think is unfortunate, and lowers my rating of the book a bit, is material on having an advantage of the exchange, such as rook+pawns vs bishop+pawns or knight+pawns. These endings are common and need to be studied even by endgame debutantes.
(An alternative "first" endgame book, if you don't mind descriptive notation, is Horowitz "How to Win in the Chess Endings," which is even more chatty and a bit more complete, though still lacking a few things.)
Like most Cardoza books, sadly, proofing was not a priority and there are many obvious typos.
But still all in all, four stars, and, with used prices in the sub-$5 range, you can hardly go wrong. Study this book, follow up with Pandolfini's Endgame Course, and then much later on, go into the big stuff such as Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual.
Mating with knights???.......2005-11-11
I haven't got this book. Still, five stars because I've read the review of someone who apparently did buy it and "only" gave it four stars, complaining about the fact that there isn't enough explanation about how to mate with two knights.
Just wanted to inform this person that there is no way to mate your opponent with only two knights, unless he/she completely messes up him/herself.
That's all :-)
Fast easy and cheap.......2005-04-22
This book combines Robertie's 2 earlier Endgame Strategies books (one on Rooks and Queens, and the other one on Minor Pieces). So you get 2 short books for the price of one at a price lower than most beginner/intermediate endgame books- in fact it is more than the total pages of the 2 previous books put together so is even better value with more content.
It is a "pageturner" and a quick read but that's not necessarily a bad thing for those who want beginner/intermediate strategies with a minimum of fuss. And with around 300 pages there is quite some meat despite it being a quick and easy read.
If you are an advanced player it's probably not for you as it doesn't go into more complex stategies. For example the more difficult checkmates using knights (which are the rarest anyway) are very briefly glossed over and not adequately explained. This is probably because Robertie was a SPEED chess champion and probably didn't have much time in his career games to use longer knight checkmates. However this itself is also probably the reason why the book is so good at simply explaining fast easy strategies.
If you want to get a simple handle on how to checkmate effectively then this "fast food" book will get you there quickly with a minimum of fuss. Lots of board diagrams and plain English explanations make it easier to follow straight from the book than more advanced books which assume you can hold in your head multiple moves with fewer board diagrams. Even better place the piece moves from Robertie's book using the Chessmaster program and follow every single move.
It doesn't get 5 stars because of a few too many typos and the fact that it glosses over the knight checkmates. But overall great value for the beginner to intermediate player.

What a mess.......2002-11-12

What a mess.......2002-11-12
This book was a total mess. Jumps around from subject to subject. Very hard to follow.
A bit of overkill but still a good book to have around........2002-09-25
Working on the transition to Exchange 2000 is a project that I am involved with. I am using the Resource Kit for a lot of planning and deployment ideas. I think that with book as a compliment to this book I will be able to pass the exam.
I found that there are over 80 labs in the book and coupled with the 120 day evaluation of the software this make it easier to process the concepts. What I found was that unlike some of the other Microsoft Press books, this one does not seems to flow as well from topic to topic.
Also being new to the Exchange 2000 Arena, I also thought this book may have been written to those with a little more experience. Although I did like the deployment, public folders and especially the Outlook Web Access section, since they apply more to what I am working on.
Overall I think this book can be a handy and useful tool if it was scaled down to every technical level.
Excellent.......2002-07-03
Unlike some other prep books, the chapters contain exercises that make you perform the skills discussed. It also includes helpful multimedia demonstrations on the CD-ROM. The CD also contains 120-day Exchange 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Server evaluations and supplemental course materials. The Outlook 2000 evaluation is useless because its expired regardless of what date or time your system is set at. This is a confirmed problem on Microsoft's Technet website. This is insignificant since you may already have Outlook 2000 that was installed with Microsoft Office 2000. At over 1,000 pages, its a hefty reference to complement Exchange 2000.
Too Wordy and Redundent.......2001-11-30
Don't waste your time on this book. Author repeats himself, and covers a lot of stuff that are less relevant. Book not well organized.
