AMAZING.......2007-02-14
This book is wonderful. I have never, in my life, thought that shopping centers and other retail properties could be so fascinating. A real page turner, and you'll probably learn soemething too!
AN OBSOLETE BOOK WITH OBSOLETE INFORMATION.......2006-11-13
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED TO READ THIS BOOK; IT IS SUCH A WASTE OF TIME. ALL EXAMPLES AND INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK IS FROM 1960s THROUGH EARLY 1990s. NOTHING IN THIS BOOK RELATES TO WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY(2000 THRU 2006)BECAUSE THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED IN 1996. VERY POORLY WRITTEN BOOK AND THROUGH OUT THE BOOK ALL YOU WILL SEE IS A NEGATIVE TONE ABOUT THE SHOPPING CENTER DEVELOPENT AND INVESTMENT. I THINK THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK SHOULD BE " HOW TO AVOID INVESTMENT IN SHOPPING CENTER INDUSTRY...."
I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY BODY WHAT SO EVER.

It really happened!.......2000-06-10
Yes, these things really happened.
yes, they're very weird.
This book tells you of all the wild and weird things that come from the minds (we're assuming that some of these people HAVE them, even if they don't use them) of people the world over.
If you're not just content to see the latest FOX-TV special on stupid criminals, check this book out for stupid people in all walks of life. It's a cut above the Darwin Awards, but in the same vein.
And, yes, there really is a story about the Concrete Enema. Really.
Buy it and find out.

Book Description
From Nam June Paik to Jane Fonda -- what are the possibilities of video? How has the use of video changed our daily lives?
Timeshift examines the powers and capabilities of video and the cultures in which it thrives. Sean Cubitt argues that video has the potential to become a uniquely democratic medium. Video is not subserviant to film, television, and computer media, instead it adds a new dimension to each of them. Whether in video rentals, off-air recordings, music video, or video art, viewers have found a nuew cultural relation through electronic recording.
Timeshift looks at the aesthetics of video, and tests current semiotic, postmodernist and psychoanalytic approaches in the laboratory of real life video viewing. Unlike previous works which have concentrated on theory, chronology, technology, and sociology, Timeshift places emphasis on different processes of viewing.
Book Description
This landmark work explores the vibrant world of football from the 1920s through the 1950s, a period in which the game became deeply embedded in American life. Though millions experienced the thrills of college and professional football firsthand during these years, many more encountered the game through their daily newspapers or the weekly Saturday Evening Post, on radio broadcasts, and in the newsreels and feature films shown at their local movie theaters. Asking what football meant to these millions who followed it either casually or passionately, Michael Oriard reconstructs a media-created world of football and explores its deep entanglements with a modernizing American society.
Football, claims Oriard, served as an agent of "Americanization" for immigrant groups but resisted attempts at true integration and racial equality, while anxieties over the domestication and affluence of middle-class American life helped pave the way for the sport's rise in popularity during the Cold War. Underlying these threads is the story of how the print and broadcast media, in ways specific to each medium, were powerful forces in constructing the football culture we know today.
Customer Reviews:
Reflections on the rise of America's Game.......2006-11-17
This is really a fascinating and well written book. Oriard looks at every angle in deconstructing how and why football became America's Game by 1960. Great illustrations accompany very readable text. It's a social history as much as a football history, but it speaks volumes about the sporting heritage of America and how race, class, and ethnicity are reflected in the game - and indeed how the game has forced us to confront some of the less savory facets of American society, particularly race. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of football and American popular culture.

These are Sid Sackson games, not just calculator tricks........2000-04-05
When I first acquired this book, I expected to receive a run of the mill book on little calculator tricks. I should have known better. In this collection of six games, Sackson uses the calculator as an integral part of the game. This is not a "type 01134 and turn the calculator upside down" book. Rather, these are six of Sackson's games that belong on the shelf of any Sackson fan or game collector.

microsoft.......2006-01-06
I would disagree with many people on this book due to the fact that this book is very helpful on using codes and debugging tools although its a definition guide on computer programming in windows 2000 it can teach you a lot of details on programming it is more like a beginners guide using many symbols and differnt codes this book is more of a book for people wanting to learn how to write files store files also deals with rewritting web pages or possibley a guide on how to develop folders spreadsheets graphs and many othe features i would say this book is really great for anyone wanting to learn c programming in windows environment as well as in the assembly language or DOS enviroment; although this book does not teach you assembly language programming it is a way to start learning assembly language programming1
Falls short in creating realistic applications.......2002-08-17
I would agree with the review that states the authors were working side-by-side with the office development team as this book was written. However, I would disagree that such close input was entirely helpful. While the information contained in this book is a nice introduction to how things are "supposed" to work, as with so much of Microsoft's software, things never quite work the way they were designed, unless of course, you're doing exactly what the folks at Microsoft assumed you would do. Not only do some examples in this book fail to work, most examples are simple and obvious, the kind of thing a person might generate from looking at Microsoft's help information. Often they illustrate how the designers assumed their software would work. They often fail to demonstrate what the software can do--or much more important--how to get around the artificial limitations set by Microsoft. Some simple examples involve such basic building blocks as dialog boxes and menus (commandbars in Micro-speak). Some built-in dialog boxes have over a dozen arguments, but try finding out what those arguments do from either this book or from Microsoft's help information. As for the commandbars, even the examples from the book fail to work.
My advice? If you want to know what Microsoft intended, get this book. If you want to use Microsoft Office in a real world situation, keep looking.
Excellent Office-wide book.......2002-01-10
It's very hard to find a book on VBA that isn't based in one application, and doesn't begin at the 'Hello World' level. This book does neither. Instead it provides a good introduction to the object models of the Office applications, and includes well-written code examples. The breadth of content is impressive--from shared Office components to class modules. What a pity it's out of print!
Like walking the halls at microsoft.......2000-09-10
The intro materials in this book reveal that the authors were working side-by-side with the office development team as this book was written. Such direct access to the people who know the most about the product is unusual and it shows in this book. A collection of truly "useful" information and sample code. This is not a rehash of online help or a collection of the "basic" programming info found in a lot of reference books. The discussion generally gives you useful information and, the part I like the most, gives you sample code that works just the way it is in my own programs. This is not sample code of the type "MyControl.Backcolor = Red" that I see so much of. It appears that a real effort was made to write code that not only illustrates a concept, but that is usable in other contexts without much, or any, modification.
Thanks for the resource....check it out - you will not be disappointed.
Info for developers.......2000-07-06
This is a book designed for people that already know something about office and vba and who want to take custom development to the next level with more advanced techniques
Customer Reviews:
Expensive but Enlightening.......2000-08-02
This book was very enlightening in the aspect of the features of Microsoft Office 2000 yet it was a very pricey title. The book comes with pages full of information and screen shots so you know exactly what to do and how to do it. This book is definately good for those who want to learn all about the features of Microsoft Office and know how to use them. The book also cover everything in depth and explains everything FULLY, so you don't have to wonder what the next step is. A must read -- if you feel like waiting on it ;)
