Customer Reviews:
Good book but not great. Good for low income property owners.......2005-12-06
While this book was useful to read, it certainly could have been better. The author refers to all his experiences which are helpful, the problem is these took place in the 90's in Ohio where he purchased duplexes(2 units side by side) for $20,000. All his example's are based on purchasing properties for between $10,000 and $30,000. I don't know how many people can relate to that, I just know that I can't seeing that 3 families that I purchase here in Boston start around $450,000. Also, I would only recommend this book to those people who purchase properties in low-income neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong, some the information regarding tenant selection, eviction and other things are useful, but overall this book is not great and is not for everyone. I bought the book used for $2.50 so it was definately worth it for me and it's an easy read.
The real deal of renting small multi-unit rental properties.......2005-05-19
I found the book to be good. The author gives a lot of information you can use. As for those who complain about the low income and people with small incomes, remember all people have to live somewhere. Most people with much more money, really do not want to rent. I think it is important to provide decent housing to tenants as the author talks about in his book. The thought of making money in real estate sounds really good, but the real estate business of landlording is not for everyone. The author points this out. While I do not approve of all his methods, I strongly suggest that you the investor, take the good usable information and utilize it to your benfit.
It works!.......2003-10-30
I bought this book 3 years ago, and I have found his advice to be very accurate and valuable. I've had great results investing in the so called "low-income" areas. The key is buy to "right". I.e. at a price that will enable you to produce some good positive cash flow. I've read many other real state investments books, but none demonstrated the knowledge gained only through experience that this book is full of. I am very proud to have bought major fixer-uppers and applied the renovations recommeded to end up with an asset that really improves the neighborhood and provides low-income tenents with a clean, functional and attractive home. As the author makes it clear, it's hard work but the financial results (ROI) are much better than other more upscale investments. This book is a must read, but only for serious investors that know that something really worthwhile such as financial independece will take some serious effort.
The trials and tribulations of low income housing!!.......2003-08-27
Just a few book highlights in case you may actually be interested in something like this.
-75% of this book is dedicated to the art of evicting the poor.
-Be sure to higher an armed guard to accompany you on the first of the month as you journey thru the ghetto making collections.
-Become and expert in Welfare and Social Services so you can pawn your evictions on to the remainder of the tax payers!
And my all time favorite (I love this one!!!):
-Be kind enough to give a key to the SWAT team before they make a raid on your drug dealing tenants so as to avoid the expense of replacing a door!
Enjoy!
A very specific guide to becoming financially free........2002-02-05
I have bought quite a few books on real estate investing and this is by far the most informative and realistic book yet. I read it cover to cover in one afternoon. However it deals soly with duplex's in low income areas, which as he explains yields the highest income. I live in an economically depressed area so this book is perfect for me. It basically goes through and tells you step by step how to become financially free by investing in rental real estate. Starting by saving up $3,000 or so and getting owner financing and slowly acquiring one duplex after another until you have 20. Which after you have them paid off in 8 yrs(the loan term he suggests) you will be making over $100,000/yr. It shows you how to figure if a property is going to make money, if so how much. Where to look, how to find owner financing, etc. It's very realstic no "nothing down" hype. He gives personal examples of failures and success.

Some problems in story continuity, but still good........2004-05-07
The thing is, the regular Tenchi Muyo manga continues from the origonal O.A.V. series. The movies continue from the T.V. series
"Tenchi Universe". The T.V. series and the O.A.V. series tell two different versions of the Tenchi Muyo story, as certain story aspects contradict each other. You'll notice that in the movie story "Tenchi In Love", Kiyone lives on Earth with the rest. She never came down to Earth in the origonal series, which is why she doesn't appear in the other manga stories, so you have to keep in mind "Tenchi In Love" does NOT take place in the same continueity as the rest of the manga.
Otherwise, this is another great addition to the Tenchi Muyo saga. We get some funny stories about the alien girls learning how to deal with tellemarketers, a newscrew coming to film at the Masaki residence, and a Galaxy Police inspector coming down to check on Mihoshi's progress. (Guess how THAT goes.) The movie is a great read also, just keep in mind that again, it has to be divorced from the rest of the stories.
Tenchi fans need this book........2003-05-23
Even if you have seen the first Tenchi movie a billion times, do not pass up this manga. The plot of the movie story is different enough to interest even those like me who basically memorized the first movie. And the other stories are cute! I love when Ayeka and Ryoko cause an accident. "Stop waving his arm around!"
*grins* Tenchi takes the girls back to school--specifically, phone school. Then, we have to watch Mihoshi suffer through an inspection by another Galaxy Police officer. And when a tv crew comes to explore the Masaki house, they get a whole lot more than they bargained for!
The first Tenchi movie meets manga!.......2003-02-25
I adored the Tenchi Muyo In Love movie, and this is the official adaptation of it. But it is not exactly like the film, so don't turn your nose up at this just because you're seen the movie. And the other stories are wonderful too. Phone school, Tenchi's love connection, Mihoshi's Galaxy Police examination, a story about the Masaki house--it's all here! Go on, take a look--you know you want to!
A Quality Tenchi Item!.......2000-12-23
If your any type of Tenchi fan, from a small one to an all out fanatic, make sure to get this! While the big draw of this is the Tenchi in Love movie on print (which has been faithfully transported, its almost like watching the movie!), there are also a few other extra stories to read! You should buy the book just for the movie, the extra stories are icing on the cake. The only way I could see you not buying the book is if you don't want to ruin the movie. But otherwise, you must buy this! You will not be disappointed.
No need for laughs!.......2000-08-21
This book reaches the standard attained by all the other books by Hitoshi Okuda. It contains the official adaptation of the Tenchi in Love movie and 4 other original stories. In one, an odd headband designed by Washu makes Tenchi more amorous than usual. Another story has Tenchi teaching all the girls in the Masaki household proper phone etiquette when dealing with prank phone calls, solicitors, and wrong numbers. In the third story, a camera crew videotapes the Masaki household for a TV show about houses, but then finds a whole lot more than a beautiful house. The fourth story is about Mihoshi's adventures when her old instructor from the Galactic Police tries to bring her back to GP headquarters. Finally, the book ends with the story of Tenchi and company having to travel back in time to prevent the evil KAIN from eradicating Tenchi's mother, Achika. Truly a book worth owning

Book Description
Quid Pro Quo: I have tried to tell a creative tale of the people and events contemporaneous with a riot. The description I have given in Quid Pro Quo is not to be considered to represent all or most riots that have occurred in the United States during the so called civil rights revolution. Although I have seen riots, and similar civil disturbances at first hand, my concern is not with riots per se. My interest is with the people of this fictional city during the eight days-Friday to Friday-about whom this story is told. Perhaps the tale provides some insights, and it is hoped that corrective and ameliorative measures will follow comprehension of the problem. The Cleavage: In Book one there is the Jordan family: Sharon, a senior in college; her mother, Vera Jordan, an elementary school teacher, her father, Charles Jordan, a postal clerk, and her brother, Chuckie. The story is set in a northeastern community in the United States. The principal characters are Negroes. Sharon Jordan is on campus in an eastern university which is predominantly Negro. Her fiance is Henry Broadspan, a sophomore in medical school. The novel attempts to show in this instance, as in each of the other two books of The Cleavage, the basic separation existing within the Negro community between the black middle class and those below it. The distinctions of separation are based upon education, power, money, and family tradition. Family tradition is primarily evaluated on the number of generations of a given Negro family is removed from the south. In this novel are descriptions of the various separations within the group, of course, within the frame of reference of the northeastern United States.

Book Description
After a night of celebrating his graduation from law school, young John Stevens wakes to find himself in the bathtub, bleeding from the head and suffering from the worst hangover he has ever had. His pain is just a precursor of the agony that awaits him when he discovers his beautiful girlfriend slaughtered on his kitchen floor. As the prime suspect John's life is thrown into turmoil, and his family is drawn into a nightmare that destroys everything his middle class parents have struggled to achieve.
With limited resources, Tom Stevens, John's middle aged hard working father, hires an inept attorny to defend his son. The trial is a disaster, and the father, committed to saving his son, takes matters into his own hands. The results are explosive.
This incredible saga grabs you from the opening scene and holds you spellbound to the last page.
Set in colorful New Orleans, Burgess's story of family love, struggle, loss and a father's promise to his imprisoned son blends the history and customs of this unique city with the unforgetable characters who are caught up in John Steven's nightmare.

Book Description
Hollywood England is a study of an era as much as of the cinema, with the screen often reflecting the mood of the “Swinging Sixties.” Alexander Walker reveals how, for the first time, British cinema achieved a truly national character, with films like Billy Liar, the Beatles’ musicals, and the James Bond pictures; directors like Ken Loach and Ken Russell; and stars like Michael Caine and Julie Christie. Yet despite a wealth of exciting new films and talent, by the end of the decade, Hollywood sustained 95 percent of British filmmaking. In tracing these developments—from the sober reality of post-Suez Britain to its consumer boom and new permissiveness—Walker offers sharp appraisals of this pivotal era in British cinema.

Book Description
D'Arcy Fallon offers an irreverent, fly-on-the-wall view of the Lighthouse Ranch, a Christian commune she called home for three years in the mid-1970s. At 18 years old, when life's questions overwhelmed her and reconciling her family past with her future seemed impossible, she accidentally came upon the Ranch during a hitchhike gone awry. Perched on a windswept bluff in Loleta, a dozen miles from anywhere in Northern California, this community of lost and found twenty-somethings lured her in with promises of abounding love, spiritual serenity, and a hardy, pioneer existence. What she didn't count on was the fog. After living communally with more than a dozen “sisters”, marrying before she was ready, and doing domestic chores to keep the ranch afloat, Fallon's life and religious idealism begin to unravel. Through a series of harrowing and heartbreaking decisions, she begins the process that will lead her away from the ranch and into her own life one step at a time.
Customer Reviews:
D'Arcy Fallon-Metaphorical Memoir Shines!.......2004-08-14
"So Late, So Soon" is a memoir of a young woman struggling with identity questions concerning her own spirituality during a difficult time in America. Her upbringing in a mobile-military family paradoxically seemed to give her an early savvy and fearlessness on the outside, yet it sent her into the haven of a Christian commune to turn her life over to God..the famous, or infamous (depending on how you want to look at it) Lighthouse Ranch, near Loleta, Northern California coast. For over 3 years, Ms. Fallon struggled with her own reasons for being there, her quiet, yet defiant attitude towards the intolerant ones around her, and her confusion concerning her inter-personal relationships within her own family. Her poetic voice is never critical of Lighthouse Ranch, and though she clearly doesn't agree with some of what went on while living there, her valiant efforts to understand her 'here and now' are refreshingly familiar. Her tone is honest, and her stories are sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant. This book will take you through the entire gamut of what it means to be a real human being, perplexed by questions of faith, the modern world, and false expectations that can leave us empty. D'Arcy Fallon's words will draw you where you need to be once every so often..into your self, teaching you insight. This book is a must-read. We hope she has more of these stories in her.
Excellent memoir -- an enjoyable read!.......2004-05-06
This novel is a brilliant, poignant look at an individual's search for identity. D'Arcy Fallon is an engaging writer; in the course of 24 hours, both my husband and I read So Late, So Soon - we couldn't put it down! So Late, So Soon captures the reader's attention and imagination from beginning to end. It is rare to find a novelist with the ability to make you laugh and cry at the same time. D'Arcy Fallon has such incredible talent; her readers will delight in her tale as a young, independent woman who falls under the spell of life on a religious commune.

A nice addition to Space:1889 literature........2000-10-28
The third installment of TRMGS is a welcome addition to the canon of literature for the role-playing game Space:1889. Although some of the material is re-printed from the old GDW magazine Challenge, the bulk of this title is new, fresh information. The quality of this volume stands up well with the previous two volumes, and it is clear that the publisher (Heliograph, Inc.) is starting to better understand DTP layout and the limitations and/or strengths of their printer, Lightning Print, Inc.
The only quibble that keeps me from rating this volume with 5 stars, is the interior artwork. Bob Brown's drawings are a welcome addition but do not (in this reviewer's opinion) stand up well against the vintage victorian artwork (clipart) in this volume or against the art originally produced for Space: 1889 and associated articles in GDW's Challenge magazine.
That quibble coupled with an over-abundance of advertising for other Heliograph projects, serve as annoying distractions to an otherwise excellent volume. That all said, I am looking forward to volume #4.

Con:The book's back and forth between the world of Microsoft and Apple's way to create great graphics for the web I found distracting at times.
Rating: 4.5 Moose
Reviewer: Penelope Wells
Graphic design authors, Bud Smith and Peter Frazier recently produced
Creating Web Graphics For Dummies. The focus of this book is to teach
both amateurs and semi-pros alike how to create good looking graphics
for the Web. The importance of minimizing the user's waiting time which
is less about the means of transmission and more about what's on the
page is also discussed. The authors don't try to cover everything
related to Web page design and graphics rather this book is part of Bud
Smith's other For Dummies books related to this topic, including
Creating Web Pages; Web Design and Web Usability.
This book follows a certain progression starting out with an
introduction to topical and how-to information allowing you to start to
do web graphics tasks right away in the first section.
Part II covers specific graphic tools, and devotes a lot of space to
Window's Paint, Microsoft's Paint Shop Pro followed by Adobe's
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
Part III is a step by step guide on how to get your photos into your
web site, and, without causing problems for the user. There's also a
section devoted to the mechanics of compressing photos.
Part IV, the do's and don'ts of using GIF images in your Web Site and
how and when to use animated GIFs.
Part V refers to useful online resources. The authors also include some
graphic tips for creating a business web site in contrast to a personal
home page.
There's a CD-ROM in the back of the book which allows you to try out
versions of Adobe's Photoshop, Elements and Illustrator, and other
software geared more for Microsoft and PC users.
Overall Creating Web Graphics for Dummies is a well-written book and
serves the student well. However, the authors guide us through many
tasks with more reference using Microsoft's software programs. For a
novice in both graphics and the web and one who prefers to focus on
information and instruction for the Mac at this stage, I found some
parts of this book confusing and distracting. According to the
authors Microsoft's user-friendly Paint Shop Pro is now on a par with
Photoshop Elements leaving the user with more software choices for
creating eye-catching graphics for your web page.

Customer Reviews:
A great book for any kid who is interested in making a site!.......1999-03-16
I thought this book was very good, it showed us (kids) some HTML basics, how to make a webpage with GeoCities, etc. I like how the author's niece gave a little tip at the end of each chapter. And the activities made sure you know what they're talking about. I would definitely recommend this book to any kid who wants to make a page or site.
A great way to plan, design, and create web pages!.......1998-06-15
This book is a very usful tool in creating web pages. Don't let the price scare you, its well worth it. The author describes how to plan and create web pages plainly. Almost everything you need is on the Web or on the CD. The software is great, although most is shareware. I like how kids are used as examples for the lessons. And the comments by the author's niece. The book is easy to read and very informative. Much more helpful then a regular manual. I recomend this book.
