Book Description
SCION is the story of Ethan, youngest prince of an ancient empire locked in an uneasy truce with its eastern rivals. In an age in which ritual combat has taken the place of real war, Ethan prepares to mark his passage into manhood by participating in his first tournament. Then an incident occurs which changes his life forever - and leads to the first open warfare in generations. Young, headstrong, and somewhat naïve, Ethan embarks on a quest to avenge his brother's death that takes him deep into the heart of the Eastern lands. This is a world where dragons are scientifically engineered creatures with on-board computers, hovercraft are decked out like tall ships, and Lesser Races are bred for toil. Part fantasy, part science fiction, SCION is at its heart a coming of age story, featuring some of the most dynamic artwork of the CrossGen line.

not given the attention it deserves.......2002-12-18
This has been one of Crossgen Comics' best series from the beginning. The writing and the artistry are both well done. This is a great read for lovers of the science ficiton/fantasy genre. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Every wage slave should read this book! Paul Lafargue (1842-1912), Karl Marx's flamboyant Cuban born son-in-law, wrote this essay for a workers' paper in 1880, and revised it for book publication while he was a political prisoner in France three years later. At once a masterpiece of critical theory and of rip-roaring radical humor, Lafargue's militant defense of the proletariat's right to laziness is directed not only against the so-called 'right to work' but against the entire slaveholders' ideology known as the 'work ethic.' In a provocative new Introduction, labor activist Joseph Jablonksi examines the managerial elite's current 'war on leisure' and highlights Lafargue's relevance to rank-and-file workers' struggles today. A bio-bibliographical essay by old-time IWW organizer and historian Fred Thompson provides useful historical background, the fullest sketch of Lafargue's life and work available in English, and an overview of subsequent literature on the problems of work and leisure.

Stolen leisure.......2000-03-29
Fight for the right to have a good time and taking ease witheverything seems to be an utopia nowadays. Written in the 19thcentury, Lafargue's book, a Cuban socialist, and it's an splendid manifesto to protect this necessity so despised at the present time.

Paul Lafargue's masterpiece, The Right To Be Lazy, at once funny and serious, witty and profound, elegant and forceful, is a logical expansion of The Right to the Pursuit of Happiness announced by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence. It was not only extremely popular but also brought about pragmatic results, inspiring the movement for the eight-hour day and equal pay for men and women who perform equal work. It survives as one of the very few pieces of writing to come out of the international socialist movement of the nineteenth century that is not only readable-even enjoyable-but pertinent.
Born in Cuba on January 15, 1842, Lafargue was a child of the New World, although he was a citizen of France. Educated and trained as a physician, he found his true calling as a revolutionary, a speaker, writer, agitator, and organizer on behalf of French working people. He took an active part in the Paris Commune and was one of the founders of the party of revolutionary socialists in France. He held public office and represented the French workers at international congresses. He also spent time in French jails.

This pamphlet bears a humerous name, but is a serious arguement for the eight hour day and the 40 hour work week. It was written in 1883 while the author was in prison and at a time when business leaders around the world were absolutely opposed to any shortening of the work week or the working day.
It is a short and easy read and adds much to the readers understanding of the late nineteenth century.

I'll speak up for you, Virginia!.......2002-03-01
I'm glad I ignored the reviews on this book and bought it anyway-- it's a great book! It is written in the style of the "Lazy Way" books, which is light, humerous, and engaging. The recipes are creative ways to use common ingredients, and would be good for picky kids or even a picky spouse! Ideas are given for organizing your kitchen, making the most out of shopping trips, children's parties, and all sorts of timesaving techniques. I enjoyed the book very much, and though my daughter is only 4 months old right now, I look forward to preparing the nutritious foods found in this book.
I gave the book 4 stars out of 5 because of the constant suggestion to buy pre-cut fruits and vegetables at the market-- I think this would add up to very high grocery bills over the course of the year. Just use a food processor and shred cabbage (or whatever) that way. I would also have liked to see a few more recipes and snack ideas, but the ones that are included are very good ideas.
If you like this book, I recommend "Keep Your Kids Busy: The Lazy Way." It is a treasure-trove of creative kid projects that I look forward to sharing with my daughter someday!
Thanks for a great book, Virginia, I am preparing "Monkey Bread" for my daughter's Christening party this Saturday!
Average at best.......2001-02-15
This book has a fair amount of helpful nutrition information for parents who aren't aware of the nutrients that are important for growing children. It focuses more on how to "be lazy" and less on what to actually feed your children. The author recommends that to "save time" you do things like prepare your ingredients in advance and cut up veggies for snacks when you first get home from the grocery store. Obviously, these methods don't actually save any time - they just alter when you expend your time. There are also strange little charts at the end of each chapter that supposedly demonstrate how you can now save time - but they are difficult to understand and seem like wasted space. Many of the time-saving hints are also money-wasting ones. There are not a lot of recipes in this book. Some of them do not sound appealing. Many of the recipes contain dairy products in some form - cheese, cream, cottage cheese, etc. I was not impressed by this book.
Not remotely helpful.......2000-02-19
This book lacks focus, has very few recipes, and is not geared for kids. I had hoped for tips on streamlining my kitchen routine and finding recipes for my picky pre-schooler, but this book is a hodgepodge of NON-timesaving tips (e.g. make your own bread; freeze guava for slushies), and recipes any kid would hate (pasta with BEETS?). "One Bite Won't Kill You" by Ann Hodgman has the tips and recipes I needed, and was very funny and reassuring to boot.

Stolen sluggishness.......2000-03-28
In a world that unemployment is the great fear of all of us, think about the right to be lazy may seems senseless, but it's not. Written in the 19'th century, Lafargue's book is a claim for individual liberty of our ill society, that is a system created to stole all of our free time by slavering our minds in an compulsive obsession of being productive. It's a good book to think about this great anathema of our time: the eternal need to show our disposition to work to be socially accept.

Customer Reviews:
A great FF8 companion.......2007-09-05
I found this book to be an improvement on the FF7 book. The directions are easier to follow, and it includes a lot of important information. I would have liked the names of the Cards to be easier to read - dark font on a dark background is too hard to reference for anything - and the beastialityairy was too hard to decipher. But that's a small point when you compare it to the failure to continue with the total coverage in the FF9 book. This book told me what I needed to know about the little things that I missed - the weapons, the GFs, the magazines (not enough room), and locations like the Islands or the Deep Sea Research Center. It was tremendously helpful. Still is.
beautiful.......2007-07-17
fast shipping, perfect condition, all around great, happy with my purchase. I know generic comment but I can't think of any other way to describe it
Unorganized, but factual enough.......2007-06-15
This guide was very very good in getting me through the game the first time I played it.
HOWEVER, when I went back through to collect all the little items that I had missed, I learned quickly how badly the guide leads you to them.
I think instead of giving 2-10 boxes of short comments, I think it needs to list them in order.
Yes I know that those boxes prevent spoilers, however, they don't aid me at all in finding X item on map Q.
Definitely not one of Cassady's best guides, but it helps complete the game to the bare minimum.
The Best strategy guide out there........2007-05-07
This has to be the best strategy guide out there that I have seen for this game. It is detailed on where to go for the side quests and has great strategies for defeating your enemies. A must buy.
good.......2007-03-19
im glad i was able to play VIII and it's such an amazing game just like IX is too. like the same with it, the guide could have been better but it's still good
Book Description
As one of the applications in Microsoft Office, Word is the dominant word-processing program for both Windows and Mac users. Millions of people around the globe use it. But many, if not most, of them barely skim the surface of what is possible with Microsoft Word. Seduced by the application's supposed simplicity, they settle for just what's obvious--even if it doesn't satisfy their wants and needs. They may curse the wretched Bullets and Numbering buttons multiple times a day or take hours to change the font size of every heading in a lengthy report, yet they're reluctant to dig deeper to take advantage of Word's immense capabilities and limitless customization tools. Let Word Hacks be your shovel. Let it carve your way into Word and make this most popular and powerful application do precisely what you want it to do. Filled with insider tips, tools, tricks, and hacks, this book will turn you into the power user you always wanted to be. Far beyond a tutorial, Word Hacks assumes you have a solid working knowledge of the application and focuses on showing you exactly how to accomplish your pressing tasks, address your frequent annoyances, and solve even your most complex problems. Author Andrew Savikas examines Word's advanced (and often hidden) features and delivers clever, time-saving hacks on taming document bloat, customization, complex search and replace, Tables of Contents and indexes, importing and exporting files, tables and comments, and even using Google as a dictionary! With him as your guide, you'll soon be understanding--and hacking--Word in ways you never thought possible. Covering Word 2000, 2002 and Word 2003, Word Hacks exposes the inner workings of Word and releases your inner hacker; with it, you will be equipped to take advantage of the application s staggering array of advanced features that were once found only in page layout programs and graphics software and turning Word into your personal productivity powerhouse.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource for Word and COM programmers..........2005-02-15
It seems like the Hacks series just keeps getting better and better. This time I had a chance to review the book Word Hacks by Andrew Savikas (O'Reilly). As usual, there are a number of items here that I'll be able to use right away...
Chapter list: Word Under the Hood; The Word Workspace; Formatting, Printing, and Table Hacks; Editing Power Tools; Templates and Outlines; Housekeeping; Macro Hacks; Forms and Fields; Advanced Word Hacks; Word 2003 XML Hacks; Index
For those unfamiliar with the Hacks format... It consists of 100 tips, tricks, or unique ways of doing things with the subject at hand (like Word, Excel, etc.). The hacks are normally not things that you would find intuitively obvious, or even things that you thought were just flat-out impossible to do. In Word Hacks, the author (along with a number of contributors) takes you on a trip into the inner world of Word and uncovers a multitude of tricks you've probably never seen...
Wonder how to get IE to launch Word documents in Word? That's hack # 8. Need dummy text to fill out content in a document but you don't want to just type random characters? Check out #14. How about using Word as a Windows backup utility? Yes, you can do that, and hack #81 shows you how.
The thing I like most about this book is the profusion of VBA code to be found. For non-programmers, this might be a hindrance in that a lot of the hacks involve using the VBA code they supply. I can think of a number of potential readers who would be totally lost there. But for developers who use COM to manipulate Word from other software packages, this is a treasure trove of ideas. An excellent "R&D" resource... "Rob & Duplicate"! :-)
If you're an average user of Word or a power user who doesn't want to play with code, you'll get some value here. If you're a techno-geek who wants to program everything, this is your book. Highly recommended...
Break into the world of Word macros.......2005-01-08
A better subtitle for this is "Tips for Taming It with Macros." The book begins with showing how to tweak the interface to meet your needs, one of the few hacks not requiring macros. For a long time, I never modified the interface beyond choosing the tool bars I wanted to view. I frequently used the word count feature and added that to the interface. Since then, I've learned to modify it based on my needs so I can quickly access the most often used features. Tip #1 is all about that.
Haven't ventured into macros, or at least not much? Get a crash course on how to create and run macros so you can use those included in the book and venture on your own. Savikas explains the basics at the 30-foot level while guiding the reader through the steps of creating and running a simple macro. Many of the hacks use macros.
When clicking on a link to a .doc file from within a Web site, the file opens within the browser and editing it is difficult because many of Word's tool bars are not there for your use. Hack #8 puts an end to this nuisance. In "Building a Better MRU" (most recently used), take the MRU file feature up a notch and pump it up with a form.
According to the book, most of the hacks work with Word 2000, 2002 (also known as Word XP), and 2003. It mentions some of the hacks work with the old Word 97, but the book focuses on 2000, 2002, and 2003. The last chapter, "Word 2003 XML Hacks," begins on page 319 and is the only one specific to the newest version of Word.
The book follows the Hack series model making it easy to use as a reference. All the tips offered are listed in the table of contents. If you like what you find there and want something heavily focused on macros, the book will satisfy your needs. Those looking for a manual with help for getting around Word and discovering some of its power are better off with a different book.
Anyone who is comfy with Word and likes to fiddle with something a little more advanced will get just that. Try a couple of hacks at a time to build up your Word knowledge. Soon you'll be creating your own macros. Those who are macro pros might not glean much from the book. The book's publisher's Web site includes five sample hacks
. Try them out to get a feel for what the book offers. The same page has a link for downloading code examples from the book.
Concentrates on macro programming.......2004-12-08
There is a huge global base of Microsoft Word users; some subset of which should find this book useful. Savikas goes beyond common texts that either get you quickly started on MS Word, or comprehensively tell you of every option. You are presumed to be already facile. So much so that you've run into recurrent annoyances, which perhsps the book can help alleviate.
The hacks deal mostly with problems for which macro programming is needed. It's not about situations where the answer is some obscure manual sequence of steps you must do within MS Word. Nor are the large reference books on MS Word likely to be of help. They do explain macro programming, and give examples. But that consists only of a fraction of their coverage. Whereas, you have here a book focused on macros.
You don't necessarily have to already be programming macros to get something out of this book; though it would help. If a given hack addresses your situation, you can just copy vebatim the hack's solution code into a macro.
