The best book for accumulating real estate .......2005-07-19
I have been a lawyer for 25 years, with the first 15 years specializing in transactional real estate. I also have a broker's license and I have owned and rented two single family homes so far. My goal is acquire several more over the next few years.
I have read many, many books on real estate investing, and most are quite superficial and unrealistic (many start with the presumption that you are consistently able to buy with no money down and for a large discount to current value). They also are commonly written by people who want, oddly enough, to sell you on taking one of their expensive, equally flawed, courses.
This book, however, is the best real estate investment book I have ever read.
It takes a long term prospective, is detailed, does not include a pitch for more product or courses, and does not assume away problems by assuming that you can buy under market with "no money down"; however, it is still is quite inspiring, to a large extent due to the author's own anecdotes re: his own investing experiences.
Although I just read a copy from the library, and do not often feel a need to buy a book I have already read, I will be buying it today, as I expect to return to it often in the coming years.
This is the first time I have been inspired enough by a book to write a review for Amazon. I am taking the time to do this today because I could not recommend any book any more highly than this one.
Great real estate book for your library.......2001-01-15
I know this book is currently out of print and with the date of 1992, I was hesitant at first to purchase this book. It is a true gem of a discovery, his information can be applied to real estate investing in the year 2001 and beyond.
He delivers the information very well written, and gives incredible ideas of ways to continually expand your ideas of how the appraisal business works, as well as many other timely topics.
The best real estate investing book I have ever read!.......1997-04-19
This is the best real estate book for the serious long term investor. I have bought four properties from 1992 to 1997 in the depressed Boston area real estate market and would have never been able to without this book. The focus of this book is that you can creat long term wealth by buying and holding real estate in the right location. It is not a get rich quick scheme. This is the serious real estate investors "bible"
Get rich slowy with long-term real estate.......1997-02-19
Many books on real estate usually tell you get rich quick schemes that never seem to work. This one however, show the important of buying and holding onto real estate much like stocks. The author stresses holding onto the estate, rather than trying to sell it quick to make a quick buck. Throughout the story, the author details his own experiences on his quest for his real estate fortune.
After losing money gambling with the commodities, the author decided to try real estate. He started with virtually nothing, and eventually built his estate to be worth more than $15 million in four apartments, and 30 condominiums. This is a definite book to read for those who want to start investing in real estate

Brain Powered Vol. 1.......2004-09-28
My friend gave me this book, and it's excellent. This first installment is shrouded in mystery, you don't know what Orphans agenda is (an evil group of scientists who have a secret underwater base), why there are catastrophic weather conditions all over the world, and why these organic plates keep popping up out of the ground and hatching into sentient mechs, or why Orphan is retrieving them. It's still very interesting, and I am definitely going to buy the rest of the set to see where the story goes.
very nice art!.......2004-04-07
if you've read my review for DNAngel book 1 then you know i love yukiru sugisaki's art very much. she is a very talented artist and i can't wait for more of her work to be translated. brain powered is a very interesting series from the start. the 'mecha' (they aren't machines, they just look like them) are remenicent to the ones in raxephon or the evas in evangelion. i really like the series so far, and i am sure many others feel the same. the art is absolutely stunning!
lovely.......2004-01-25
This manga was lovely drawn. I mostly only like girls manga but I was interested in this because the illustrator is the same person who did DNAngel. The style and the mood of this manga is much more serious than DNAngel. While there is also a love story charactors seem more interested in saving/destroying the world. Emotion is a huge theme in this manga where the mechs are driven by human emotion. I found this interesting perhaps only because I am not more familiar with this genre.
The charactor design is excellent all of the charactors are unique and apearances enhance the portrayal of their personality. The pacing and panel arangement are pretty good. Nothing exceptionaly innovative but still varying enough to keep excitement and flow of the story.
There aren't many authors notes but there is a really nice bonus at the end whith some charactor design notes and sketches.
Brain Powered is definitely interesting..........2003-07-31
I had heard that this was a little like Gundam, a little like Five Star Stories(Which is the best manga I've ever read in English, by the way), and a little bit Escaflowne. All I have to say to that rumor is...no, it isn't. This is very different. The Brain Powereds and Grand Chers are sentient beings, not machines. Their partners do not control them, but merely help guide them. And they cannot change into other things, like a certain robot that can become a dragon.
Anyway, this is a very good series. I like the plot, and the characters are different. But this is not one of my favorites.

Kermit, everyone's favorite froggy philosopher, shares his "green" tips for a healthier and happier future. With each chapter dedicated to one of his specific theories or a learned piece of worldly advice, Kermie tells it like it is in his own inimitable way. Beginning with "A Frog for All Seasons," he spells out his approach to writing: "It's all kinds of simple: Just don't take yourself too seriously and don't listen to experts (including pigs), and you've pretty much got it." From there he moves on to "Finding the Tadpole Within," "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Frogs," "I'm Okay, You're a Pig," and other humorous takeoffs on recent bestselling titles. Excellent, playful illustrations reveal Kermit in various settings: on the set of a talk show, in the river doing a little fly-fishing (where he's actually fishing for flies), and dolled up as the Frogal Gourmet preparing insect appetizers. While many of the clever literary and pop references may be lost on the little ones, it's entertaining enough to give parents a chuckle and increase their pleasure when reading this book aloud over and over and over again. --Colleen Preston
Customer Reviews:
. . . Featuring Garrison Keillor's Tom Keith.......2003-05-10
I got a hold of a copy of this when a friend told me Tom Keith, the funny sound effects guy from Garrison Keillor, does sound effects and character voices on this production. Who knew! And he is great as always. The rest of this production is great too. Kermit, Miss Piggy. And cool music. This is good stuff!
Great Soundtrack: What Fantasia is to Cartoons.......2003-05-07
This audio production and soundtrack is a delight! It cleverly weaves in well-known classical music to underscore Kermit the Frog's (sweet) satirical musings on modern living -- peppered with cameos by Miss Piggy -- and is loaded with deft musical jokes. I was also happily surprised to find additional sound effects and character voices added by Tom Keith, the sensational sound effects man for Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion.
Perhaps my favorite moment is when ominous spaghetti western music plays while Kermit laments that fact that a language barrier seems to prevent men and women (and frogs and pigs) from getting along. Or accompanied by the two beautifully melencholy voices from Delibes' famous duet, Kermit ponders whether to accept daytime TV's request to publically discuss the trials and tribulations of life with Miss Piggy.
This production is silly, clever, poignant, and a delight. You're in for a treat if, like me, you get a kick out of The Muppets, P.D.Q. Bach, or Garrison Keillor's Prarie Home Companion.
A great book for the inner frog in everyone........2000-03-25
Kermit's Guide to Life in the 90's is an enjoyable read for anyone who has either grown up watching the Muppet Show or has been swept up in any self-help movement in recent years. While establishing itself as a book that can stand on its own, the humor really comes out when you realize the original subject matter that is being parodied. From 7 Habits to Chicken Soup to Don't Sweat the Small Stuff to Mars and Venus, it is all covered. The material is given as factual tips to bettering your life, while keeping the wry, sardonic, and occasionally over-the-top humor of the Muppet Show intact. Overall, a very well thought out and crafted book, I would recomend this to anyone I meet, but don't let Miss Piggy read it...

No small themes for William McNeill, a writer of big, sweeping books, from The Rise of the West and Plagues and Peoples to the modestly titled--and wonderful--History of the World. Here McNeill turns his attention to the role of synchronized movement in human societies, whether in mass political rallies, the muscular bonding of military drills, or dances staged in ballrooms or mosh pits. Such motions, McNeill tells us, are "far older than language, and critically important in human history." Ranging from the Paleolithic to modern times, McNeill turns up unusual nuggets from the past: the Christian Church's abandonment of sacred dances in the 4th century, dances that survive now in the sign of the cross; and Adolf Hitler borrowing fight songs from American universities to solidify the nascent National Socialist movement.
Book Description
Could something as simple and seemingly natural as falling into step have marked us for evolutionary success? In Keeping Together in Time one of the most widely read and respected historians in America pursues the possibility that coordinated rhythmic movement--and the shared feelings it evokes--has been a powerful force in holding human groups together. As he has done for historical phenomena as diverse as warfare, plague, and the pursuit of power, William H. McNeill brings a dazzling breadth and depth of knowledge to his study of dance and drill in human history. From the records of distant and ancient peoples to the latest findings of the life sciences, he discovers evidence that rhythmic movement has played a profound role in creating and sustaining human communities. The behavior of chimpanzees, festival village dances, the close-order drill of early modern Europe, the ecstatic dance-trances of shamans and dervishes, the goose-stepping Nazi formations, the morning exercises of factory workers in Japan--all these and many more figure in the bold picture McNeill draws. A sense of community is the key, and shared movement, whether dance or military drill, is its mainspring. McNeill focuses on the visceral and emotional sensations such movement arouses, particularly the euphoric fellow-feeling he calls "muscular bonding." These sensations, he suggests, endow groups with a capacity for cooperation, which in turn improves their chance of survival.
A tour de force of imagination and scholarship, Keeping Together in Time reveals the muscular, rhythmic dimension of human solidarity. Its lessons will serve us well as we contemplate the future of the human community and of our various local communities.

An Original and Stimulating Hypothesis.......2006-10-14
This absorbing work exposes an immense gap in the literature about and our understanding of the past, and offers a huge canvas for further speculation. Highly recommended!
Dancing as the Engine of Human History.......1999-09-09
If you are one of those people who reads in terms of things subversive or hegemonic, you will not like this book, because it so completely accepts the sort of mechanized vision of the universe so common to our age. However, if one should happen to be free of that particular affliction, then this is a fairly interesting book, for not only is it readable, rare for an academic book, but it also has something to say about human history. Mr. McNeill's thesis is that the interaction between music and dancing has had a very much greater impact on human history than has heretofore been realized, and many of his speculations are well worth pondering. For students of dance, and what is perhaps now becoming a legitimate line of academic query, a subject that may someday become known as "kinesthetics," this book is a must-read. A recent book from France about the French use of church bells appears to echo many of the themes developed here, which is to say that this book may well be looked back upon as an important first step. Of course, to a politically-minded critic, such work is utterly reactionary, and perhaps it is an escape into a fantasy of other times and places, and certainly the almost uncritical way in which McNeill accepts the current Darwinistic world view is disturbing, yet nevertheless there is much to be gained here. The long analysis of the impact of close order drill on European armies is alone work of the first water, of interest to anyone working on not just European political history, but also students of European imperialism. If this book is understood aright, much of our current thought is going to have to be revised.

Garry Kasparov has dominated the world of competitive chess longer than any other world champion, and this period is one of the most fascinating and controversial of his career. It includes his many frustrated attempts to reunite the world championship, and ends with the dramatic announcement of his retirement, immediately after winning his seventh Linares tournament. International Master Tibor Károly brings a rich selection of the exciting games of this period to life, offering extensive and illuminating in-depth analysis. An unrivalled guide to understanding the eclectic style of a true giant of the chessboard.

Complementary to Igor Stohl's Kasparov's greatest games........2007-03-12
Concerning Garry Kasparov's greatest games, of course the best ones are the two volumes by Igor Stohl. But one thing ahout that are the games chosen are just two few. Some games of importance though may not instructive or " brilliant", anyway I think should be included. The two volumes mentioned above include say, take for example, just one game from the match, PCA K vs Anand, but I think should be more. The current two volumes, " fighting chess*, 1993 to 1998, 1999 -2005 fill this gaps at least the period from 1993 to K's retirement. But one thing I don't like is that two many fragmented games are included whereas for our readers, we like the complete games!! The anaylsis are alright though not to such a depth compared with the ones by Igor Stohl.

Customer Reviews:
A little dissapointed.......2001-02-02
The sample chapters at the Schroff web site shows nice colorful graphics for this book. In reality, the book is a poor reproduction with only black & white graphics. As a result, some of the screen shots in the book are very hard to make out. For the price ..., I would have expected a much higher quality book. Otherwise, the content is good if you're a beginner with Catia V5.
CATIA V5 Workbook.......2000-10-26
The workbook uses a scripted approach to exercise basic CATIA V5 functionality and is exactly what I was looking for. The material is presented in a clear logical manner. The many graphics and clear explanations greatly assisted me in learning CATIA V5.
Catia V5 written for everyone.......2000-09-28
Finally a Catia Course book written for the average person instead of the Catia V4 veteran. I found the course simple and easy to follow. It was complete with examples of common parts and followed a step by step course.
CATIA V5 Workbook.......2000-09-26
This book has a been a great organization tool for the newer or even experienced CATIA user. The clear and consise explanation of the workbenches and their functions is a great reference tool.
The lessons build on each other and break down the sold modeling process into small easily understood pieces. This book has answered many, " i wonder what the thougth process was behind this function...", questions. This book will stay within arm reach of my CAD station!

Limited is scope.......2005-12-31
The Advanced workbook is limited to a few subjects within Catia. I was looking for the Prismatic Machining, but found it very short and not very clear. One of the exercises for sheet metal would not work because the exercise was written for an older version of Catia V5. I should have reviewed the contents prior to purchasing this book. I have his first workbook release 6 and 7, and found this a very good manual for beginners trying to learn V5.

Good for a beginner.......2004-01-14
Good for someone who is just starting to use CATIA V5
Excellent Book.......2003-08-15
A good book is the one that doesn't require an engineer to understand. This book is excellent! It slowly guides a beginner step by step away from frustration and closer to satisfaction. However, the minus side is that it doesn't cover any electrical application. I would pay triple the price if this book had electrical coverage.
Catia Workbook.......2002-11-02
This book is a good introduction to Catia. The steps taken and the end result of the book is good and successfully takes you through the basic workbanches. However much of the book is waisted with repetition and over worded explinations for the simplest tasks. The illustrations, typography and loayout are typical home-word processor stuff (clearly an accademic project) after the first chapter the lengthy explinations take far to long to get through and you find yourself skipping them and just getting on with the task. At the end of the day there dont seem to be any other books out there so this is probably your best bet, but I was still left with a few basic problems that were not covered. This book could probably have been edited down to half its size if the wordy introductions were cut out and you would be able to get though it much quicker - after this work book you are left with both a need to learn all the workbenches covered in more depth and many many more workbenches to learn.
For beginner.......2002-07-29
It is an excellent book for beginner. It lets you get into Catia easily. It is important to make things simple for beginners. This book does a good job of making things simple.
VERY PLEASED.......2001-11-06
This book offers the principles needed for any Catia user, both experienced and new, to be able to obtain a firm understanding of Catia V5. It teaches through easy-to-follow examples and illustrations. It was well worth the money.

Not very good information for an experienced designer.......2003-09-03
This book misses a lot of the knowledge required to effectively use CATIA v5. Also, there are many blatant errors, not only in grammer, spelling, and graphic examples, but especially in the learning examples. A lot of your time will be wasted trying to follow the books instructions for they are inaccurate. Best to wait for a much better book, one with some intelligence behind it, to come along.
It is evident that this book was written by an inexperienced author, and was not proof-read or checked for accuracy.
Congratulations Richard Cozzens.......2003-05-16
If you want to learn catia V5 by your self this is the book to start with.
