Book Description
A handyman special can be a path to a dream house. The Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) offers foreclosed homes to the public. HUD House is a true journal by people who obtained and improved a HUD house.
Customer Reviews:
Review by the Author.......2002-08-25
HUD House is a practical guide to buying a government* foreclosure on the Internet and transforming it. The authors have written a journal of their experience. They periodically step out of the main text to share their thoughts on cuttiing red tape, finding contractors, scheduling tasks and the like. They didn't think they actually put in a lot of sweat equity; instead, they call their extensive planning and strategizing "programming equity."
This is a book for people with good credit. It shows the way to bootstrap into a modest house. Other readers might be people who have a little cash but who want to keep their mortgage payments low, retirees, employees of fad industries and recipients of windfalls.

First Review for this product in 4 years!.......2004-09-17
I think, when this was release almost 5 years ago, people didn't quite understand, you see, during that time, They were in the After Colony frame of mind (and then, that was THE first GUNDAM SERIES in america EVER! I think in todays world , The Gundams of Cosmic Era (Seed) People who haven't read this yet will appreciate it more than people did then. This is a very good Graphic novel, But it does seem to end quite abruptly. I feel that this will appeal to Universal Century fans as well since this is when and where it takes place. I do reccomend this product. VERY MUCH!
Interesting plot for Gundam Fans.......2003-06-04
I've been a fan of Anime and Manga for a long time. I was attracted by the original story and technology concepts present in the original Gundam UC world (not GWing). I've always wanted to have a Gundam manga, so when I had the chance, I bought this one, and after a quite detailed inspection, I found the following topics very useful for the people interested in it:
As a manga, the artwork is good, but of course is at a lower level compared to, for example, the Clamp / Satoshi Urushihara works. But the consistency of the story is really good and the fact that the story fills only 1 volume makes it a best-buy.
And for the Gundam fans (minor spoilers), there are so many concepts developed here, that surely makes it interesting. For example to see the early experimentation of the Zion army on Newtypes, at a time when they weren't implemented for combat purposes yet. The setting of the story is in the early days of the war with the Zion, which makes everything much more interesting, and it's fun to see how all the combat units were "malfunctioning" GM's (don't expect to see a RX type here, they didn't exist at the time of this story).
So... my advice is... get it now, if you are a Gundam fan, because it provides some background information about the series. If you are a Manga fan, it could be nice for you, but there are more options, even based in the Gundam world.
Good. Could be better........2001-10-11
This is a pretty cool manga. You may need to read it a few times to understand it due to numerous plot twists and flash-back sequences. If you're a fan of the Wing series, this may be a good intro to the Universal Century timeline. As for the plot, it's a bit slow at points, but great battle scenes make up for it. Overall, 4/5 is just about a perfect rating for this manga.
Blue Destiny.......2001-07-16
This book was great!! The plot was good and the book was full of pages and pages of action! This book is good for Gundam fans familiar with the original Gundam series (Mobile Suit Gundam).
hav'nt read it yet.......2001-07-12
Hi, I am a big fan of Gundam Wing and anticipate the arival of Moble Suit Gundam on cartoon network. I love the series and I'm reading a different book by Yoshiyuki Tomino. I hope this one will be as good as others say it is.
Book Description
Bob Harris is possibly the only comedian alive who has drawn reviews comparing him to both Lenny Bruce and Noam Chomsky.
In this, his first book, syndicated radio humorist, Mother Jones online columnist, noted Jeopardy! show-off, and stand-up comedian Bob Harris tears into the lunacies of modern American politics, media, and culture.
Harris' loopy, self-effacing humor hides deep knowledge of economics, history, and science behind pop culture references and a plain-spoken style, translating complex ideas into hard-hitting, often laugh-out-loud essays.
What makes Harris unique is an underlying, palpable belief in the intelligence and human dignity of normal working people, despite the insane and often inhuman world around us.
Customer Reviews:
Timeless.......2006-06-27
Prgressive political commentary plus wicked sense of humor equals a thought-provoking and entertaining read. Even years after the publication, Bob Harris's observations on politicians, big business, oil, and the environment are just as prescient and dead-on as ever. Plus, you'll laugh harder than you have in weeks.
Hilarious.......2002-02-02
This is a really, really funny book. And you can see it's very, very well written because it gets a 5 star review from every single person who has ever read it. Bob Harris is really, really smart, as most of the earlier reviews have attested, and it shows in this very, very funny and very, very clever book. He really should have his own TV talk show, because this book is much funnier than David Letterman. Or maybe he should be a movie actor, and then maybe a movie director, the world would be much better place, and funnier too! :)
Surprisingly funny.......2001-09-29
I got this book as a gift, and to be honest I had never heard of the guy, but I found myself laughing out loud in a lot of places. The essays are all short and bounce around between subjects, so it's an easy book to have around and read in short stretches. I don't always agree with everything, and if you like Molly Ivins or Will Durst maybe it's a fun read.
Great advice on Investments (and Babes).......2000-01-29
I really liked the chapter about the stock market, and how you can tell which way stocks will go by using very sophisticated ratios like that put-call ratio. I also thought that I should add a review since no one seems to have written one since September, and that's a shame for a book with so many incindiary insights.
A radical concept.....political humor that's funny........1999-09-15
For too long political humor was synonymous with cranky old men complaining that the audience stank. Bob Harris is young and full of piss and vinegar (organic) and not content to merely whine from afar. He tells you what Alex Trebek is really like and he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. He goes into the trenches to show how campaign financing really works and under the President's desk to show.... No one is spared. Doctors are dealt with appropiately (like self centered over indulged children) Pols are afforded as much respect as they deserve and no one or nothing that could possibly hurt you (science, media, economists, world leaders, oncologists etc.) escapes the cocked eyebrow of Bob Harris. What a tasty read.
Customer Reviews:
So the actors don't make it up as they go?.......2000-05-27
This is an entertaining and educational little volume of interviews with twelve screenwriters from Hollywood's "golden age." These folks all have tales of being disrespected and demeaned by producers and directors and of being thwarted in creating their art. But they all survived and even thrived a little and have plenty of tales humorous and horrendous of goings on in the movie business. From Ivy-League intellectual to newspaperman to truck driver, the subjects of these interviews have in common the storyteller's knack, and that makes this book a delight for those of us who like to know what goes on behind the scenes. I wish there were twice as many interviews, though. Filmographies for the subjects appear at the back of the book, and there's a generous helping of photos throughout.

Book Description
Russia and the newly independent states of Central Asia are struggling to reassert or create national identities and are receiving fresh attention from the West. After decades of oblivion, the vast Eurasian continent is once again divulging its intense cultural heritage and foodways to the international community. The diversity of food cultures within the former Soviet Union, with more than 100 distinct nationalities, is overwhelming, but Food Culture in Russia and Central Asia brilliantly distills the main elements of contemporary cuisine and food-related customs for students and foodies. Vibrant descriptions of the legacy of the Silk Road; the classic foods such as kasha, pirogi, non (flatbread), pickles, and shashlyk (shish kebab); the over-the-top Moscow theme restaurants; and meals at the dacha and tea time are just some of the highlights. After centuries of contact and conflict among peoples of Eurasia, Russian and Central Asian cuisines and culinary cultures have much in common. To understand one, the other must be considered as well. Russia and Central Asia cuisines share many ingredients, dishes, and customs. This volume strives to emphasize the evolving and multifaceted nature of the food cultures. Readers will be able to appreciate the ingredients, cooking methods, and traditions that make up the Eurasian foodways.

Customer Reviews:
Spartan Systems Inc. ( Low voltage contractor ).......2007-02-09
This book is good for beginners, Connector and cable identification is easy with the color insert. My installers each have a copy, keep it for reference. [...]
Book is documentation, not a "How to".......2006-11-02
I would not recommend this book. It covers some individual cabling components, but it does not have a coherent review chapter that explains "How" to run cable through a building. It does not cover different situations that might arise in running cable and doesn't have tips on things like, avoiding electric cables and plumbing, how to ensure you have enough cable for the job, etc. Again, it documents individual components, but it does not cover much of "How" to run cable.
The book does have pointers spread throughout the book, such as dropping a metal bead chain down a stud cavity, then inserting a magnet into the outlet box hole to retrieve the bead chain. After that, you can attach a pull string to run the cat5 cable. However, this book seems very disorganized. It sprinkles tips throughout unrelated chapters. It repeats concepts frequently in different chapters, and sometimes the repeated topics have discrepancies. For example, one chapter mentions patch cables should not exceed 10 feet, and a different chapter says patch cables should not exceed 15 feet.
I would NOT recommend this book if you're wanting to learn "How" to run cable. I would also not recommend this book for anyone wanting to run cable in residential buildings. This book covers commercial buildings almost exclusively.
The definitive guide.......2006-07-12
"Cabling: The Complete Guide to Network Wiring" is the definitive guide to all of your commercial and residential cabling needs.
A Great Book for the IT Manager.......2006-05-16
In the IT world, it is easy to find computer books on various subjects such as Windows, but just try and find a good book on Network Cabling! Here is the book I have been looking for! Now I don't have to call a cabling contractor every time I have a simple question about how to do something.
This book goes into several areas that most computer books don't even address. Do you want to know more about Punchdown Blocks? This book addresses the subject. Do you want to know about Cable Testing? This book discusses NEXT, FEXT, and other common cable test measurements.
If you do any of your own cabling or you want to be more involved with designing your own network layout, I suggest you get this book. It will explain a lot of things that you will never learn about in most computer related classes.
