Book Description
Co-authors Lori Katz and Barbara Meyer have been using tampons for over a decade and consider themselves to be experts in tampon usage. This personal experience, combined with their toy design backgrounds, have led them to craft the first true bathroom book for women.
This irreverent activity book draws our attention to what is perhaps the most intimate and overlooked object we come in contact with: the tampon applicator.
101 creative ideas are cleverly illustrated and grouped into category headings ranging from fashion accessories to car detailing. In chapter 8, learn how you can make a lovely wreath using nothing more than tampon applicators and household items. For a bigger challenge try your hand at constructing a scale model of the Starship Enterprise! Zen Garden, Foozball Replacement Player, Groovy Doorway Beads and many other funny ideas make this the perfect gift for anyone with a sense of humor.
101 SUPER USES FOR TAMPON APPLICATORS is a witty and creative look at a subject that is often taboo - but is really funny!

GOOD JOKE BUT BAD PICTURES.......1999-04-07
The jokes are good, but when you look at the pictures you loose all the interest of this book, pictures are in black/white and look like a child draw it!!!!
Is you buy it for jokes you will like it, bit if you buy it for pictures, you loose your money, the cover is the best picture.
After you read this book once you will trow it in the same place your mother throw her tampon.

Unapologetically Adolescent.......2006-05-25
I first discovered this book while browsing in the "bricks" rendition of Amazon's major competitor, and thought the premise alone was funny as hell. After all, the "Chicken Soup" movement had just gotten traction (and has since morphed into absurdity, with titles such as "Chicken Soup For The Hitman's Soul" -- just kidding), so it was a phenomenon ripe for lampooning.
I mentioned the discovery to my then-girlfriend and even requested it for a Christmas gift. Sadly, by the time she got around to buying it, it was no longer available. She even accused me of delusional behavior.
Reminiscing about her one evening led me to search for "Chicken Soup", and lo, it could be had as a used book. So good money was paid, and it was money well spent.
One could cite it as an example of a waning trend (Beavis and Butt-head) clashing with a rising trend (Chicken Soup For The Soul), and in my quite biased opinion, B&B won that battle.
Despite their limited vocabulary, B&B take apart Chicken Soup and pretty much the touchy-feely pop psyche movement as a bunch of hooey that people often preach but seldom practice.
Though a B&B book will never approach their "epichodes", especially the pre-commercial (that is, before complete MTV assimilation and de-lousing) stuff (e.g. "Frog Baseball"), it is acceptable to this B&B fan.
very funny book.......2001-01-29
If you love to watch Beavis and Butthead, then this book is for you! It is such a great book! I had so much fun reading this book because it is so funny.
Sucks big time.......2000-06-15
To use a butthead phrase from his movie "Beavis and butthead do america" :
THIS SUCKS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE SUCKED BEFORE
Dont buy it . Dont even accept it as a gift.I think thats pretty clear . Its for books like this , that Amazon need to place a 0-star rating.
The best thing for the Beavis & Butt-Head Fan!.......1999-07-07
My God, I laughed so hard I cried. This book makes you keep reading and you can never put it down. It's like a comic book but it is a different kind of humor. Very cool. The best "Chicken Soup" book.
If you like beavis and butthead this book is a must have!!!!.......1999-05-09
Chicken Soup for the butt is the most hilarios and Silly book! It is very well wirtten (just kiddin) but if you love beavis and butthead this book is a "MUST HAVE"

Book Description
During WWII my father kept a diary during his 300 combat hours and 81 missions as a decorated P-47 fighter pilot in England. This book celebrates and honors my father and mother's participation in that difficult time.
The screenplay Hunters in the Fog looks into the mysteries of luck and fate in war. Why is it certain pilots, regardless of their refined skills in war, fall victim to death, chopped short in youth? My father turns over that question in his diary. He notes the near misses to himself and other pilots, the mysterious accidents, the horror of fiery death and the strange beauty and suspense of aerial warfare. With his advice, and inspired in part by the classic characters of Dumas' The Three Musketeers, we fashioned a similar set of personalities who must survive 300 hours of deadly aerial combat to complete their tour of duty.

BEST dissenting, counter-culture JOURNAL IN AMERICA.......1998-01-21
If you believe that Newsweek, ABC News, and (yes) National Public Radio are good ways to stay on top of things, skip this and buy a book by Al Gore. If, on the other hand, you would like to read a remarkable journal, you've arrived. The Baffler has no corporate advertising, is well-edited (thank god), and offers scintilating critiques of the mass media/corporate/industrial/advertising/idea makers. I sound like an ad for the Baffler: it never sounds like an ad for anything. It's a great read every time and marvelous brain tool to pick locks with.

More Weird and Wacky Stuff.......2003-09-24
And I thought Arsenal was wonderful...Factory surpasses even that by offering more of the same in a different venue. Whereas Arsenal came out before d20 Modern, Factory has suggestions on integrating itself with d20 Modern to make a more complete settings as well as give even more options for say an Urban Arcana game. If you combine Arsenal and Factory you essentially have Shadowrun d20 and that's not a bad thing. Factory gives us examples of robots as well as some idea of making your own. Technomagic is the buzz word with this book even moreso than its elder brother Arsenal. Computers get a similar treatment with dizzying ideas on hacking. Enchanted cyberware is also included with a tongue-twisting name but some good ideas here. Quite similar in some respects to Dragonstar's spellware but this is more convergent evolution I'm sure. All in all there is a lot here to like and play with. Good ideas and their integration with d20 Modern is a plus which gives adequate cause to recommend this book quite highly.

Easily understandable and complete!.......2007-09-12
For those who are serious about organizing their didgital photos, this book is a "must have" to accopmpany their purchase of Aperture 1.5 software.
The software covers all of the frustrations that we have felt in trying to organize our images in a safe and usefull manner.
I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep up with some of the instructions, but everything is so very clear; it was refreshingly understandable!
It's OK.......2007-08-20
I can't say whether or not this book will adequately prepare you for the Aperture certification exam as I'm having a great deal of trouble finding anyone who actually offers it in my area, but I can say that if you own Aperture you own a copy of the Aperture user's manual, and you're not going to find a lot of information in this book that isn't already in there. I was honestly going to return it, but then I carelessly set a glass of water down on top of it while I was on the phone and crinkled up the cover.
Excellent tutorials and very easy to get through.......2007-07-24
I have had mixed luck with tutorial books and self paced learning, but this is an excellent example of how to do it correctly. Not too much and not too little. I immediately was able to get 10 X as much out of my Aperture investment after just the first few chapters. I've dramatically improved my ability to deal with the hundreds of pictures I take every shoot. It really should be the manual for the program. Don't think twice. This is the book to get if you want to get more out of Aperture.
IF YOU LIKE HANDS ON LEARNING, THIS BOOK IS GREAT.......2007-03-19
Because I enjoy photography so much, my husband purchased an entire Mac system for me for Christmas and included Aperture in the package. The program came with a "Getting Started" manuel that gives the basic "how to's" of the program. However, I learn best by doing step by step projects. I purchased Aperture 1.5 Pro Training and it definitely fit the bill for me. It took me step by step through the features of this great program by using actual projects downloaded from the CD included. I learned about features I am not sure I would have discovered on my own. I am also using features I would have probably thought I would never have a need for had I not done a project with them using this book. Because you get to do actual projects, it is also easier to remember how to use the features when you go to try something with your own pictures. If you like step by step hands on learning and you are new to the Aperture program, this book will serve you well.
A Great Hands-On Learning Tool.......2007-02-16
Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 1.5 provides the new user with a very
well thoughtout approach to learning the basics and intricacies of Aperture.
By providing a CD containing the files that are referenced within each of
the lessons, the book guides you through the steps for ingesting, sorting,
storing and modifying your images. The text is, for the most part, very
clear and logical. Once in a great while the program seems to not quite act
as expected, but figuring out some small added step is relatively simple.
Overall, a great way for a beginner to learn how to access the power of
Aperture.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent book - required reading for Aperture users.......2007-01-04
As others have already stated, this book on Aperture is extremely well written, and with its accompanying DVD of samples to follow the tutorials, is an excellent, almost necessary, accessory for any user of Apple's Aperture program. Mine is the version of the book for Aperture 1.1, and since the current version (1.5) has quite a few enhancements over 1.1 the book to get today is the same author's update for Aperture 1.5.
Great Book For Aperture LOWER VERSIONS.......2006-10-17
BEWARE. one star just to get your attention!
Most of these Apple Training books are great and so is this one UNLESS you are using version 1.5 and up.
This book does not relate well to this newer version.
Wait for the new version book which is in the works for 1.5, I got burned! Don't do what I did. Although the back cover says there may be updates on their website, there are not. The software changed so much that this book is useless on 1.5!!
Just trying to save you money and time.
Outstanding Book!.......2006-09-26
I was given the opportunity to review this book by an acquaintance, and I am very glad for the opportunity. It has totally changed the way I approach my digital workflow. My previous workflow started with a folder for each year, containing a folder for each month. Inside the monthly folders were still other folders for each shoot. I would download my digital RAW files in the root of each shoot folder. Then I would create 3 separate subfolders inside each shoot folder, (1) alt (for altered ), (2) fin (for final), and (3) out (for output). I would place the various iterations of each file in these directories for retrieval and sorting. I would open each RAW file in Nikon Capture and evaluate the shot. Then I would make any necessary alteration and save the required output files, whether for web, print, or archive. Sometimes the images would be opened in Photoshop for further work, and saved back to the same directory structure. This worked fairly well, but it was a very slow process. Finding images weeks, months, and years later was very difficult without going into each directory and looking through the saved files. Now I keep all of my files in the Aperture program, and it allows me to save all of the iterations side-by-side. Even those alterations made in Photoshop are saved as "versions" of my original digital file. It has cut my workflow time down significantly, but even more important, it has allowed me to keep track of all of the versions of my files together, making the finding and printing of previous files manageable.
I started my review of the Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture book in only my spare time - literally 3 hours per day. I would usually take an hour before my work day, and hour at lunch, and an hour in the evening, after the kids were in bed. I spent 2 weeks going through the book, and I am extremely pleased with the results. The DVD that accompanies the book is stocked with sample pictures that are used throughout the book, and they really help solidify the examples and ingrain the workflow and features of Aperture.
There were several features that I really liked about the book. Since I am a "learn by doing" kind of person, I appreciated the classroom style of the book. First, each chapter had a list of objectives, including an estimate of how much time each step would take. This was perfect for me, as I was going through the book in my spare time. If I saw that the next chapter would take 75 minutes, I would allow for this time in my next session. This worked out extremely well for me, and allowed for a very organized, paced, and effective learning environment.
The book started out with some basic navigation items, screen shots, screen layouts, and keyboard shortcuts. The book did an exceptional job of outlining the various keyboard shortcuts (and there are a *LOT* of them), that really make using Aperture quick. Assigning ratings, keywords, photo comparisons, etc. can all be done through keyboard shortcuts. If you are using Aperture, but don't know about the keyboard shortcuts, I guarantee a quick review will reduce your process time by at least half. I remember going through these chapters thinking "This isn't what I need. I need the stuff on analyzing pictures...". However, I've come to understand that Aperture's power is really in image management, evaluation, and basic image adjustments. I do my basic "developing" in Aperture (white balance, exposure, levels, brightness, etc.), and the majority of my "post processing" (black and white conversions, vignetting, framing, etc.) in Photoshop.
Once you understand the basics of Aperture, the book gets you started with organization and the use of keywords. This is the part of the book that I really liked. Lessons and images used in early parts of the book are re-used and re-confirmed in later lessons. While you might be tempted to skip these parts to get to the image manipulation sections, DON'T. One of Aperture's main strengths is its image organization, rating, comparison, and evaluation features. In my old workflow, it was very difficult to analyze one image against another. I would have to open both in Nikon Capture and try to do a side-by-side comparison. Or, I could save each as a JPG and then open both in Preview - but this was time consuming and inefficient. The book takes you step-by-step through multiple scenarios for evaluating, rating, sorting, and applying keywords to photos.
After the thorough review of Aperture's organization features, it's time to move on to image editing. The book does a wonderful job of presenting sample images that need work (white balance, exposure, brightness, contrast, noise reduction, sharpening, etc.) It then takes you step-by-step through the processes of editing images and preparing them for output. It also takes you through the process of editing images in external editors such as Adobe Photoshop, so all the changes made to your images are preserved in the Aperture program.
In summary, here's what I liked about the book:
1. Goals for each chapter
2. Time estimate for each chapter
3. DVD Examples for each lesson, numerous examples of how to do certain things
4. Keyboard shortcuts (for example, use the backslash to give 5 stars)
5. Real-world examples
I would have liked to have seen more examples of advanced image editing. While there were some basic examples, I wanted more hands-on experience with adding sharpening to RAW files. There are two areas of Aperture to add sharpening (in the RAW area and then as an add-on step), but the book does not explain when to use one over the other, or in conjunction. Also, I would have liked to have experimented more with level adjustments, RGB level adjustment, and the histograms. This was covered briefly, but not enough to really understand what's going on.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is using Aperture, but might only be using a small portion of the program. I'm glad I spent the time with the book, the DVDs, and the program. It has made my experience with Aperture all that I had hoped for.
- John LaPlante
Just Right.......2006-07-01
I had recently purchased a digital SLR (after decades of film photography) and I had many other scanned images 'from way back when.' And with a fairly big digital project looming, I needed to be 'in the know' with Aperture -- and fast. The book was written well and gave the hands-on learner as well as the visual student something to get a hold of. This is my first Amazon review of a product (though I've purchased a ton of stuff over the years), but I really wanted to give my 'Thumbs Up' to this book for getting me set and ready to go. I did use the book as reference often, as I recalled, "I remember doing this in a lesson... but how.." and Orlando Luna & Ben Long got me prepared. Without much effort I got a photo-journalistic view of a recent wedding, edited & organized and then set up on one of my websites with Aperture. And I can safely say that it wouldn't have happened without this book. THANKS for your effors Orlando & Ben and Peachpress! I would recommend this book first, if you're new to Aperture, before going on to others.
Awesome Book.......2006-06-17
Orlando Luna and Ben Long are great writers. I've never known Ben Long, but I'm sure he's a great guy and knows his stuff. Ben has to be someone pretty experienced as well. Orlando Luna, is my dad. He's an awsome dad, and an awesome father. I'm hoping to write a book someday, not the same as his, but I hope its just as well written and helpful to others! Peace out home dawgzzzzzzz, and I am a photoshop MASTA so email me for samples of my work: jkidz@bellsouth.net

UN UNH!.......2006-10-14
NO! Go to jail, do not pass go!
I bought it, big $26 mistake, same junk as comes with Aperture...Nothing at all new!
Skip this and go beyond. Shame on Peachpit for even passing this off as a learning tool.
SHAME!! ZERO STARS!!
Wait for the next one.......2005-12-28
This book is merely a text copy of the information that ships with the training DVD you get when you buy Aperture. In other words, you already have all this information if you own the program. The only value to this book is as a companion to the DVD or if you don't own the program and want to see what it can do. I'd wait for the next title in the series if you want some real training.
Do NOT buy this book! .......2005-12-22
This slim volume is mostly white space and very large type. None of the information in this little booklet is particularly helpful nor illuminating and it should have all been included with the application anyway.
Buying this dumb little "book" will only reinforce your frustration with Aperture and your distaste for Apple.
Don't do it.
