More of market commentary in nature than analytical.......2005-01-22
I am a newbie in the REIT field, I read this book with a view to understand the market better and to understand the basic concepts involved in this field. While I must say I did pick up some basic concepts I don't think I understand the market much better than before. The concepts I did pick up was not being explained in detail by the author but he was using those factors and parameters to explain why market behaved in a particular way during, say, the 1985-1990 period.
Now, this is certainly not the book for the beginner, certainly not the book for somebody who wants to analyze how profitable a REIT would be... the mathematical formulas used in the books might be useful for the ones setting up the REIT, but for others, it's certainly not worth the money.

Icees,candy, and comics part 3.......2007-04-26
Every Saturday when I was young, my father took me to the Drug Store for an Icee, some candy and of course a comic book. I loved these "Star Trek" comics(no they didn't have much more than the same name as the series) and I still love them. The stories were for kids but they were fun and this set has really made it fun to look back on them and share these with my kids. Now, How about that Icee!!!
Ah, the good old days..........2007-01-09
In my early childhood, I would run to the local K-Mart and buy bagged 3-pack comics. I was usually too late for the Marvel and DC bags, leaving racks of Gold Key titles, but that was okay with me, as the Gold Key packages contained titles that deviated from the standard superhero fare. Plus, the gaudily painted covers made them irresistible. Twilight Zone, Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery, and The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor were just some of the titles available, and every now and then I'd run across an issue of Star Trek. At my young age, I couldn't differentiate between television's Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) and the comics, so I figured these were just more adventures of TOS that I hadn't seen yet and treated them just like any other Star Trek story. As I grew older, more "sophisticated" Star Trek comics were released by Marvel and DC, to the point that I wrote off the Gold Key series with a snicker... the newer stories were obviously much better, right?
Nope!
Checker Publishing has been providing a wonderful service by reprinting comic series that are off the beaten path, and at very affordable prices. Their STAR TREK: THE KEY COLLECTION line has given me the chance to revisit my childhood and realize that the Gold Key series is much more in line with TOS than anything else I've seen. While these stories may lack the gravitas or social messages of TOS, they are certainly fun adventures. What's more, the aliens are usually nothing more than humanoid characters dressed as cavemen, Napoleonic soldiers, Egyptian deities, or even mummies - things that certainly fit right in with the so-called otherworldy beings of TOS. I have heard that Len Wein wrote some early issues of the comic series, but I am not sure about the stories collected in this volume. If he did, then congratulations Mr. Wein! You stay true to TOS.
STAR TREK: THE KEY COLLECTION VOLUME 3 reprints # 17 - 24 of the Gold Key series (as opposed to what is listed in the product description), primarily featuring Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty. Sulu, Uhura, and Nurse Chapel make a few appearances, and Chekov is briefly mentioned, but not clearly shown. The art from Nevio Zaccara and Alberto Giolitti is superb, favorably resembling the work of Al Williamson. While some characters don't quite retain their standard TV looks, it can certainly be forgiven. Also, some speech balloons are incorrectly positioned, but it really doesn't affect the story. Apparently, the art was reprinted directly from the comic pages, instead of the original art, and while this normally would cause problems with resolution, the images have been brightened to the point that there is no problem with blurring of linework. And of course, Checker included my favorite part: the painted covers. Seeing those really takes me back, and it makes me hope that Checker will consider reprinting other Gold Key series in the future.
Get this one to see the "Mummies from Heitius VII".......2005-12-16
This collection features a favorite of mine from childhood. "The Mummies from Heitius VII" pre date the Borg by twenty or so years. It's a story about Mummies that act very similar to the Borg from Next Generation. I remember how foolish the cover looked. The mummy attacking Mr. Spock on the cover was like a cross between a bad horror movie and an episode of Lost in Space. There is also another classic, "The Trial of Captain Kirk" in which Kirk is accused of a crime he didn't commit. If you like classic Star Trek this is the collection for you. I have to ask how can Volume 5 be out of print; yet the release date is December 25, 2005?

Hägar at his boisterous best!.......2002-04-09
This 4"x7" paperback book is a collection of Hägar the Horrible comics by the incomparable Dik Browne (1917-89). Here in this book are many adventures of Hägar, his friend Lucky Eddie, his formidable wife Helga, his beautify though self-conscious daughter Honi, his bookish son Hamlet, and Hägar's less than competent crew. In this book, Hägar must face Bloody Bulgars, knights in armor, magical trolls, and Lucky Eddy's cooking.
Recently, while digging through an old box full of books, I came across several of my treasured Hägar books, of which this is one. My children (girl eleven, boy eight) grabbed it away from me, and were soon happily reading the jokes out loud to all present. It is so nice to see that Hägar can entrance the young of today, much as he did me. My personal favorite is when Hamlet and his friends discuss what they want to be when they grow up. My wife loved it when Helga instructed Honi in "The Ancient Mysteries and Secrets of Womanhood." As for my kids, their favorite was when Hägar's crew proves too incompetent to even leave the pier behind!
We all love this book, and you will too. If you can get it, then do so!

A good book on the basics of craps and blackjack........1997-07-02
This book covers craps, blackjack, discipline, casinos, and money management offering tips and tricks to winning. The craps section is excellent although it covers only three bets extensively and the blackjack section is good for the beginner but, not great.
Also covered is the Gollehon Imperial Method for playing. This method appears to work with single deck games, but may have too much rounding for the serious player looking for an accurate card count. A recommended read for beginners. Advanced players can probably skip this one.

Great Reference, but way to general and out of date.......2007-05-14
THis was one of the more expensive books I bought for info on the ARM architectures, but I'm disappointed, the book covers just the core ARM architecture and is a few years out of date now too. Its a tough book to write, no doubt, there are so many variations on ARM that its unrealistic to expect them all to be coevered, but I'd like to have seen some more specifics. Most ARM imlementations by the multiple vendors ot there put in a bunch of peripherals, I'd like to have seen some attemtp to address those features better.
If you wanted a detailed ARM core reference, it might be the book for you, but bear in mind it doesn;t addres the newer products...

Clear, competent, well organized........2004-07-17
This is a completely adequate reference for the basic ARM architecture, including the Thumb instruction set.
This is a reference book, not an instruction manual - you'll probably be happiest with this book if you already know at least one or two other assembly languages. Given that background, you might like the ARM ISP. It's a very regular RISC. The Thumb subset is even more stripped-down, but lets you pack parts of you code almost twice as densely as usual.
If you've gotten this far, you already know that there are dozens of ARM implementations, with different add-ons and special features. This, of course, can't handle your special circumstance. Still, it's my favortie presentation of the core ARM instruction set.

3 Reasons to buy in spite of the free ARM PDFs.......2003-04-30
Most everything here is in ARM's free databook PDFs. So why buy it? (1) It is cheaper than printing those huge PDFs. (2) It is easier to read. (3) It gives some history and tips that are difficult to find in the PDFs, but help us all write better code.
One complaint: poor binding. Manuals should be bound so they lay flat on a desk and stay open to the page being referenced. The fact that my cheif complaint has nothing to do with the content says volumes about this book.

Great Reference Manual.......2001-08-29
Covers everything you might need to know about ARM assembly language programming. It has three sections: A. CPU Architecture - ARM instruction set (regular and Thumb) - ARM addressing modes - Examples B. Memory and System Architecture -System Control Coprocessor, MMU, Protection Unit, Caches and Write Buffers C. Vector Floating Point Architecture - Formats, instructions and addressing modes For a more broad and general introduction into ARM Furber's book is excellent and should be purchased first(unless you are just need a reference manual).
