Book Description
Securitization is a corporate funding technique that is widely adopted by financial and industrial companies throughout the world, used to finance both working capital and capital budgets. Importantly, it is also used as a risk management tool and a source of liquidity. Securitization has been adapted to fund corporate acquisitions, capitalize future streams of revenue, and to liquidate pools of nonperforming loans. In this book securitization experts Charles Stone and Anne Zissu provide a practical explanation of how securitization works and explain how future cash flows from various asset classes--from credit card receipts and mortgage payments to movie royalties--can be packaged into bond-like products and sold to investors. The discussion includes descriptions of all major classes of asset-backed securities and offers a practice-oriented commentary on trends in securitization and the value of asset- and mortgage-backed securities across industries and throughout the global markets.
Customer Reviews:
Not as helpful as it looks.......2006-03-14
The information provided by this book is limited. It touches several variations of ABS using case studies and market introduction but has done nothing but repeat the securitization process and entities involving the process. It's ok as an intoduction book but far from a good "handbook". I would not recommend it for any quants or traders as it tells not much about how to model and hedge ABS's.
Understanding Asset-backed Securities.......2006-01-09
Authors Charles Austin Stone and Anne Zissu's treatise on asset-backed securities is part handbook and part textbook, including technical charts, graphs and formulas. Both finance professors and Ph.D.'s, the authors are the founding editors of two financial quarterlies, `The Financier' and `The Securitization Conduit'. As you might expect from authors with their expertise, this book thoroughly covers the structure, dynamics and characteristics of various asset-backed securities. You might pick up the book to learn about the precise details of these instruments, or to refresh your memory for the fine points. It carefully explains how institutions package bond-type products for investors based on funding from different assets, such as mortgages or credit card payments. The authors fulfill every reader's wish for comprehensiveness, although they place a good deal less emphasis on style and readability. Even specialists will find this a challenging read, though it is an information-packed reference book. We believe it is useful and appropriate for professionals who need to know the technical details of particular market structures.
Excellent reference book for beginners and pros.......2005-10-20
There are not a lot of books out there on this topic and this one is great for what it attempts to do. It is not an end all be all type book that covers everything, but is a very good place to start. It touches the main points of history, motivation, products, structures, legal, accounting, credit enhancement, cash flow analysis, valuation and investment. Do not missunderstand me, even though it is somewhat general, this is a techinical book.
It lays out the basic mechanisms for monetizing a selected type of assets using flow diagrams, excerpts from prospectuses, accounting standards and cases studies. This method should satisfy practitioners from many fields as it hits on so many high level specifics.
This is my area of expertise and although I learned most of this on the fly, I still learned a few things from this book. I wished books like this were around when I got my start. The Fabozzi books, while great for academia, do not offer much to the non-PhD who works rather than teaches for a living. This book gives you something you use.
If you are an accountant, lawyer, structurer, collateral analyst, issuer, risk modeler, prepayment analyst, credit enhancer, bond analyst, portfolio manager or investor in or considering getting in to this area or just want to learn more about it, pick up this book.
Customer Reviews:
Still relevant.......2006-12-13
This book may be dated, but if you want an in depth review of the fundamentals of all types of mortgages, pass-through securities, CMOs, and MBS valuation techniques this book should be your first stop.
After reading this book, you will have the solid foundation that you need to read more advanced tomes and/or understand current developments in mortgage securitization.

Customer Reviews:
Easy to Read and Easy to Understand.......2006-05-24
This has become my favorite book on bonds. I have read other bond books which are often hundreds of pages long and cumbersome with complicated mathematical formulas and equations. This book contains none of that!! I enjoyed this book as it is written in a conversational tone and can be read in a single sitting. As an institutional investor it is helpful by explaining the basics and how to analyze a bond for investment. If you would like to become knowledgeable about bonds quickly I would definitely recommend this book.
Author helps novice bond investors become Pros........2005-08-03
This book covers what you really 'need to know' about bonds and how they differ from stocks. It is written in plain English and is unlike any other book on the topic. It is concise yet packed with useful information. The book covers the entire topic in a logical, straight-forward progression of concepts that are easily grasped. Beyond being fully indexed, each index entry is presented in boldface throughout the text of the book thus making it a ready reference resource for novice and pro alike.

Book Description
Kung fu fighting meets wacky romance in this tale of Ranma, who, thanks to an ancient Chinese curse, turns into a buxom girl every time he's doused with cold water. When female Ranma attracts the attention of a libidinous French gourmet, male Ranma has his work cut out for him.
Customer Reviews:
A printing error makes this an interesting book........2003-06-19
I won't detail the storyline for this book since others have told you. I will however, comment on this bizarre mistake in my copy. One and a half chapters of the Picolet story suddenly appear in the middle of the Nabiki=fiancee' story, messing them up. But the dislocated chapters are also printed correctly earlier in the book! So, I am reading the same stuff just in a different (and wrong) place. But other than that, I have enjoyed this section of the story. And I want to think that this odd quirk will make my copy more valuable in the future.
Ranma beginner.......2002-11-22
This is the first Ranma 1/2 I read, and it's the best! Humorous; keeps you laughing even when you're alone. Although it may have some weird concepts (a boy turning into a girl), the overall idea is brilliant!
RANMA ROCKS!!!!.......2002-05-30
I LOVE RANMA....well not literally but i mean the books...ALL of Rumiko Takahashi's books are good. If you put me on the couch and give me one of her books i won't get up until i am done! Her books are sooooo good! if you haven't read any of the books i encourage you to read 'em!
SHOWDOWN WITH A DELICIOUS FRENCH DINNER!.......2000-07-31
While Ranma remains stuck with his girly-girlie curse, he faces still another amorous martial artist - this time he's a dapperly young Frenchman! After tea ceremonies, circus acts, and Hawaiian surf-up, Ranma engages into a painfully rigorous training with REFINED ETIQUETTE FOR GOURMET DINING. However, even with all such savory French delicacies right under his young button nose, Ranma still ends up being sent to bed hungry. And, Picolet's really BIZARRE hereditary gives him a great advantage over all the speed-eating contests, so...Ranma has to find ANOTHER way quickly or he would be doomed to wear the tightly-laced iron corset so ruthlessly forced onto his nubile young girl's body AND eventually become Picolet's bride! And one of Akane's sisters, Nabiki is finally given the new role as a main character in the second story. So a sibling rivalry suddenly crackles in the air and Ranma finds himself with a SWITCHED fiancee...none other than Nabiki herself! Now all the lovestruck rivals had caught the wind of it, so poor Ranma is forced to shield the coy-faced young Nabiki from being viciously attacked. And what's more, Nabiki uses her subtle, catty ways to make some dough right off her new fiance as well as to get back at her easily-ruffled little sister! Aw, JUST PICK UP A COPY AND READ ALL ABOUT IT!
One of my favorites in the entire series!.......2000-07-27
This volume contains one of my favorite storylines in the entire series, "Nabiki becomes Ranma's fiancee!" I'm a big sucker for anime romances, and the romance between Ranma and Akane is my absolute favorite. Engaged by meddling parents to carry on their families' martial arts style, they eventually fall in love without even knowing it, and their unspoken love is put to the test time after time by incredibly weird and hilarious situations. In this volume, Akane gets angry at Ranma for saving her sister Nabiki from a fall, instead of Akane. Sneaky and conniving Nabiki takes advantage of the situation by taking up Akane on her rash remark that Ranma should become Nabiki's fiancee. Akane soon regrets her remark, not to mention Ranma, who ends up being Nabiki's pawn in a number of money-making schemes. But will these two ever get over their pride and embarrassment before Nabiki makes a ton of money out of the situation? Check out this volume for an incredibly sweet, cute, and hilarious story!

Gamma Whirled 4th ed.......2002-04-16
4th Edition was the best for Gamma World.
This Edition contains ruleset for playing animals, plants, mutatants and purestrain humans. Has cryptic alliances and chacter classes (esper, scout, fighter, tinkerer). All the hightech weapons and devices are collected together in one book( rather than a stack of modules and 1-3rd ed. rulebooks) Loot tables, radiation effects, and monsters. Kindalike a players' guide and GM guide in one. ... The Alternity ruleset is/was completely different. 7514 is classic Gamma World, if you're intersted in GW you better pick on of these up.
A Classic Revisited and Revised.......1998-09-04
The fourth edition of the Gamma World game brings it back to the standardized TSR / AD&D style system. Although the rules include enough material to play a game or set up a campaign, significant work is required to build a fluid gaming environment from the materials provided.
Sometimes strange or awkward, but cool.......1997-09-11
This book contains the rules for the Gamma World role-playing game (as you probably know, if you're looking for it). The game is really cool and very original and interesting. The only problem with it is that some of the rules set-ups are bizarre and/or senseless. If you're going to GM it, I suggest you use some creativity in adjusting them a little. It shouldn't be difficult, and it makes the game run much better. Overall, with a little work it was one of the better systems I've played under
Customer Reviews:
Lots of useful Information for experienced requirements engineers.......2007-02-22
I'm a software developer and have a lot of experience writing Vision- and "Use Cases"-documents.
Writing these documents is not a big deal, however to make the customers read
"Use Case"-documents and provide feedback is much more difficult. But without feedback
it is not possible for a developer to write correct requirement documents.
I ordered this book because I liked the word "collaboration" in its title. It implies
the importance of working together with the customer in order to get the requirements right.
As I expected the author concentrates much more on the process to elicit proper requirements
rather than on the notations of requirements models such as UML. The best way to collaborate
with customers is to have structered meetings the so called workshops.
The book is divided into following three parts: "1. Overview of Requirements Workshops",
"2. Requirements Workshop Framework", "3. Requirements Workshop Design Strategies". Especially
the 2nd part contains a lot of detailed information and sometimes it is difficult not to get
lost. But part one and three are quit easy to follow.
Only in part one is a chapter which describes the different requirements models.
They are categorized according to their view, focus and level of detail. After reading this chapter you
know when to use which model. "Use Case"-Models are the most popular requirements models.
However, there are software projects in which other requirements model are more appropriate.
This chapter gives you an overview of the 19 different models.
Although a brief summary of every model is provided there is no example. If you want to know
the details of these different models you have to look for other sources of information.
The rest of the book concentrates on the prepartion and facilitation of workshops. A lot of useful
advice is given on how to manage people, content and processes in a workshop. Most of the
content of the book is aimed at facilitors of workshops. If you have nobody in your company who
has the necessary skillset to facilitate workshops, the author recommends to hire someone from
a consulting company, who can do this for your workshops.
On the author's website there several useful templates and guidelines which help you make your
workshops more successfull.
This book is a recommended reading for everyone who is responsible for the success of a software project.
How to do requirements workshops that work?.......2006-12-10
In Requirements by Collaboration, Ellen Gottesdiener shares many years of experience in running requirement workshops. In this area, Ellen might be one of the most experienced facilitators in the world.
The author provides a framework for organizing requirements workshops. The framework is based on getting six Ps right. The Ps are "Purpose, Participants, Principles, Products, Place and Process". For each step it describes typical things that need to be done. First establish a share purpose. Find the right participants for the workshop. Set the principles and ground rules. Decide what work products to create (the book provides an excellent overview of work products used in requirement analysis). Define the requirements for the location and decide where to hold the workshop and decide the process to hold it.
In each steps, the author provides great tips and insights from her experience in facilitating workshops. In the later part, some strategies of requirement analysis are presented and the book ends with some case studies.
Overall, the book is well written an easy to read. The requirement workshop framework, at times seems overly complex and certainly would need to be tailored to the specific situation. However, I think this could not have been prevented when talking about a generic way of holding requirement workshops.
In Agile Development, requirement workshops are one way of doing requirement analysis and spreading the requirement analysis over the whole project. For these kind of workshops, this book is probably the only reference, eventhough the book itself does not cover this very well. Therefore "requirements by collaboration" is a must read for anyone who wants to do requirements workshops.
Excellent book for practioners.......2006-02-07
I found this book to be an invaluable help over the last few years that I have been running workshops with business people and users. It is concise and full of tips and how to's that are of great practical value. I can not recommend this book enough. I am a technical architect who has been thrown into the requirements and the domain traditionally inhabited by Buinsess Analyst and their ilk. I have used this book as a guide to run requirements workshops, business process workshop and scoping workshops. top book.
More Effective Group Collaboration.......2004-09-28
This book is about running requirements workshops and more. Requirements workshops are an important tool for understanding what you need to build. The techniques in this book will be useful in many other group discussion settings, and will help you have more productive meetings. The book discusses, among other things, roles in workshops and decision rules (deciding how to decide). Each chapter ends with a list of excellent references that you can use to probe further on techniques. Anyone who is involved in group decision making should own a copy of this book, read it, and refer back to it often.
It's proving its worth.......2003-12-24
A good book is one that gives me a few ideas that help me do my job better. A great book is one that I find myself turning to over and over.
I can tell that this is a great book because my copy is getting worn out. I've learned more from it than anything else I've read in the last several years about software requirements and I continue to refer to it. Sometimes I find a particular technique to help with the task at hand, and sometimes I reread a section in light of my recent experience on a project and learn something more subtle.
Even if you aren't using the facilitated workshop approach to requirements, this book is still very useful. I refer over and over to its collection of different requirements models and how they relate to one another. There are other books that give a much more thorough treatment of a particular tool (Cockburn's Applying Use Cases for example) but none I've seen that tie it all together so well and help you pick the right analysis tools for the job.
If you like this book, be sure to visit Ellen's web site, www.ebgconsulting.com. The Resources section has many checklists and templates that go beyond the material in the book and can save you a lot of time when preparing a requirements workshop.
I'm surprised that only eight people (as of December 2003) have read and reviewed this. It's way better than that.
