TSR -- seeking diversification from the fantasy genre -- introduced its Mafia & G-Men genre game as a box set in 1982 (ISBN 0394525973). Like its contemporary brother RPG, Top Secret, GangBusters operated on a percentile-based rules system. It was a fine game and deserved more attention than it received.

This 3rd edition was published in 1990 as a single perfect-bound book. It contains:

* Game Rules for Players and Judges
* a 28"xl9" full-color map of downtown Lakefront City
* a sheet of 156 playing pieces
* Game Statistics for famed gangsters and law enforcers of the 20's and 30's

Lacking in details....bigtime!.......2000-11-15

This book (being returned to Amazon) has less information on the fine points of creating personal preferences than does the application's built in help menu. It assumes that every user had just come from the previous version of Word. Coming from Word 5.1a (Macintosh) I might as well have been arriving from Mars. The book lacks essential detail of each operation in which I was interested. A new user would do best to stay away from both this book and Word and opt for a simpler program.

I purchased the book hoping for detailed information of things like how to create stylized envelope return addresses in default, kerning, and other features. Kerning is not listed in the index or anywhere else in the book. This is one reason why I upgraded from an older Word and this book doesn't even mention that feature at all? It was so lacking that I needed a $7.00 phone call to Miscrosoft support just to learn how to save a styled envelope.

I'd pass on this one.

The book provides an excellent treatment for both new users and those upgrading from Word 97. It covers all neccesary topics without going into unneccessary detail. The only thing missing is the MOUS approved courseware logo which we hope should be put on it.

I recommend it to anyone wising to get up to speed quickly on Word 2000. keep up the good work!

Excellent Tutorial On Word 2000.......2000-06-02

If you are looking for an excellent overall tutorial on Word 2000, you have come to the right place.

As with most of the other Microsoft Press "Step By Step" books, this one really delivers. The most important aspect of these books is their intuitive and well-documented exercises. You can literally teach yourself by just doing the exercises provided in each section. Other books are more appropriate if you want a reference, but this is the book to use for a tutorial.

I have been teaching with these books for almost two years, and my students love them. Many of our sessions are self-paced, and the students are easily able work through the exercises on their own with little intervention.

One downside to this particular book is the number of typos and overall errors. We have found more than is usual for this series of books.

Microsoft Office 2000 8-in-1 Step by Step comes with a CD-ROM containing examples and multimedia walkthroughs for many of the lessons valuable to "hands-on" learners. Between the lessons, the diagrams, and the information in the book, you should be able to master Office with some patience and diligence. Of course, this is a Microsoft book, so if you're looking for bug reports or unofficial tips and tricks, you'll have to try elsewhere. Step By Step.......2001-12-11

I ordered the book and it came propmptly. More promptly than getting Office 2000 loaded on my machine. It looks a bit more simplistic than what I was looking for but it looks like a great book for someone just getting started.

Great initial investment pursuant to MOUS certification.......2000-12-12

My goal for 2001 is to obtain the MOUS certificate at the Master level. I have used MS products with the concentration of my experience centering on Word and Excel. I have used Access sporadically and with intermediate level performance. My experience with PowerPoint leaves much to be desired since I mainly use the wizards. My funds are limited so I wanted an all-inclusive reference (with CD Rom for practice) which would provide a basis for my study. I bought the book from another source (please forgive me oh mighty Amazon) and in terms of area concentration I would say it is intense concentration on beginning information, greater than average concentration on intermediate knowledge and average concentration on advanced applications. This is not a problem - I plan to buy books which center completely on each package as I master the foundation of each package. I would disagree with anyone who states that this is not for the advanced user, with constant upgrades and education there is no way anyone can ever retain each ounce of minutiae that can be acquired; this book is an excellent refresher. For the beginning or intermediate it is an excellent basis for further study.

A Good Introduction to Microsoft Office 2000.......2000-04-04

This book does a great job of explaining the basic concepts of all of the Microsoft Office programs. It also has good practice excerises. It does not, however, touch on any of the advanced or complicated features.

Great Book! Well written and very understandable! I was able to get up to speed on WORD in no time! I learned more spending two days with my nose in this book than I did taking a class on word! It was money well spent! I know more about word now than my secretary does ... she hates that!

I upgraded to Windows 2000 Word and I wanted to be familiar with the additional features of Word 2000. I was so impressed with how to import/export features, clip art, and the new template features that using this book even briefly speeded up my proficiency on this application in no time flat. I was so impressed with this book on to the point examples and such I gave my copy to my grandmother. She knew nothing about Word and after using this book in less than one hour she had tears in her eyes and what she could do in such a short amount of time. This book is not also easy to understand but has step by step illustrations as well. A must have book for the novice.
