Great reference for HR people.......2007-03-15

I got this book because I am an employee relations specialist responsible for overseeing unemployment claims. Reading this book gave me insight into what the ALJ's look for when claims are protested. I have since changed some of my responses to reflect what the judges are seeking in making their decisions.

A Helpful Secondary Book For Rabbit Care.......2003-10-17

This particular book has not been the most helpful rabbit care book for me, not because of the content, but because it seems to focus more on keeping outdoor rabbits rather than indoor rabbits. It also assumes that rabbit care is the top priority of those who keep rabbits. Most of us, who keep rabbits as house pets do not have the time to hunt and gather the food the author suggests. We buy hay and pellets at the local pet store and provide a few fruit slices as a treat. However, this book is helpful. For one thing it lists poisonous plants as well as edible food that rabbits enjoy. Since rabbits always seem to find a way to eat something they are not supposed to eat (I paid $436 in vet bills when my Dutch decided to eat a calla lily), information about keeping rabbits out of mischief and appropriate food is helpful. The book is also illustrated and contains wonderful plates identifying certain breeds of rabbits as well as description of various breeds.

Probably the greatest strength of this book is that it takes rabbit care seriously, just as one would care for a dog or cat. Its major flaw is that it is now a bit dated. I would recommend this book as a secondary handbook and since it is not too expensive, it is worth having on the shelf.

Great Book but not enough color.......2001-11-11

I love this book, but i am already an experienced rabbit owner and i know what i am doing. although this book is very detailed in the different aspects of pet care, and things like that, it is not a book to read for entertainment. if you are interested in entertainment, you may want to turn to Hop To It! or The House Rabbit Handbook. Great book for a newbie though!

If You Own A Rabbit, You Must Have This Book.......2000-05-16

This book should be mandatory for rabbit owners. I found the information to be extremely useful, from what food to feed them to what symptoms indicate what illnesses. You'll learn why rabbits behave the way they do and how to keep your rabbit safe and happy.

Some of the chapters weren't relevant to me because I was not raising a show rabbit. I wasn't interested in the information about breeding, breeds, etc. but it was interesting nonetheless.

The first time my rabbit was ill, I panicked and that's what prompted me to buy the book. Fortunately, he had just eaten too much grass and was fine by the next day. I referred to this book countless times in my rabbit's 9 years.

If you own a rabbit, buy the book. It's interesting reading and will put your mind at easy when your rabbit isn't feeling well. You can teach your kids how to properly care for their bunnies which will add to your enjoyment and will help you ensure your bunny is with you for many years.

One word of advice: hide the book from your rabbit. Rabbits love to chew on just about everything!

This isn't the best book for rabbit breeders in the U.S........1999-09-24

I have this book, and although the author does a fair job in describing the care of a rabbit, she simply has things left out that should be included.

The listings of breeds (and show terminology) are from the UK, and would confuse readers in the US. Same for the listing of plants (which I think she went overboard on this area.)

There IS a decent section on genetics, however it isn't as accurate or current as I would prefer.

Read it at the library, but don't waste your money on it if you want serious information.

Excellent: Ferrets 101.......1999-11-05

Although I liked the companion book (Training Your Pet Ferret) more, this is an excellent concise guide for someone who knows nothing about ferrets. This is not a book for anyone who has even a working knowledge about ferret behavior. But then again I haven't found a good guide yet that goes in depth into ferret matters for those of us who know the basics about them, but would like to know more.

While some of the information is unique to this book (like the part about ferret sounds and body language) there are some alarming errors (a ferret should NEVER be housed in an aquarium!). Use it as an additional reference, but not your primary one. You should have several different sources to refer to anyway.

10 Years Hardly Made Any Difference.......1999-04-23

There are many more up-to-date reference books on the Domestic Pet Ferret. It's an add to my Ferret book collection only. I recommend researching all books available before deciding to be owned by Ferrets.

As a keeper of Ferrets here in England I was appalled when I was given this book as a present for Christmas 98'. There are a number of really quite harmful and cruel elements to this book This could not be further from the truth. The Ferret is a highly social animal and they should really be kept in a minimum of threes, two females and a male.

De-scenting. This is a highly controversial prac n integral part of the animals communication system and to remove them just for the delicate nostrils of the owner is really very unfair on the animal.

To say that Ferrets release odour when in fear of their life is quite innaccurate. Ferrets release an odour when they are excited, prior to eating, before hunting or going for a walk.

Within the book the subject of housing the Ferret is not covered at all satisfatorily, to suggest that a Ferret needs a cage of only 10 inches in height is cruel. Ferrets are climbers by ntaure and mine reguarly climb the seven feet to the top of their 6 foot by 6 foot court. There is scant reference to the correct size and positioning of an outdoor court and cub.

I could go on, but frankly the 1000 word limit is rapidly running out. But for those die hards amongst you who rate this book, just refer to the "My tip" on page 23, advising the reader "never to strike the Ferret's body" This lady must really have been struggling for something to write if she thinks that the average Ferret loving reader would hit such a small animal!

The picture of the "White-footed butterscotch" on page 41 is further testament to this authors own ineptitude, either if this Ferret is her own or the picture is from a library, it should never have been used in a reference book. The poor animal's nails are clearly too long and should have been t rimmed, if they grow much further they'll grow back under themselves! Poor Ferret.

One thing this "guide" is not is complete!

In short, don't waste your money. There has to be a much better guide out there somwhere! By the way, the only reason I gave this book one star is because the review software won't let you choose none!

Misleading and mean.......2001-11-24

I recieved this book as a gift. I read it and immediately threw it out. It is a horribly misleading book that should not be sold at all. It states that rats will not come when called by name or that will not bond to you. Tell this to my 12 rats that do exactly that. The author knows NOTHING about rat temperament. Other statements about what you can teach your rats are just plain wrong. The trifling details that are given about rat care are not enough to fill a thimble. Any current ir prospective owner should get Debbie Ducommun's books, Rat health Care, and Rats for Today's Pet Owner (this is available here). Debbie is the "rat lady" and her books should be considered rat owners bibles.
Just because a book is written by a vet does not mean it should be taken at face value. I give this book no stars because it deserves none. (no stars was not a valid choice, so I am telling you)

This book said that multiple rats would fight and did not recommend getting more than one. I thought that this was a really incorrect recommendation, rats are social animals. Unless a person can spend alot of time with a rat I feel that it is cruel to only have one and there are alot of rat lovers that agree with me. I have 5 male rats at one point, they got along really well. At one point some of them did start to fight, I tried natural remedies-which can definately work in some cases-but they continued to fight so I had the trouble makers nuetured and then everyone got along great! If you have rats that fight check out rat web pages for solutions, alittle bit of bickering is to be expected.

It's a good starter book........2000-10-11

When I first got my very first rat, this book was really helpful and informative. Then, I got a second female rat that happened to be pregnant and I found that the book didn't have as much information in it as I would have liked to have known. I would reccommend this to anyone who is just starting out with their first rat. But, if you are planning on continuing breeding or keeping rats as pets, I suggest getting something more detailed.

Good... but not the best........1999-05-27

I've had this book for a while, and while it is helpful, it is not the best book out there on rats as pets. It's not a bad price, though, and I have never heard anyone say that anything in it is flat-out wrong, so it may not be a bad supplement to the rat library. I wouldn't use it as my sole source of information.

This is one of few books I would actually recommend........1998-12-10

This book is fairly accurate (especially in comparison with the other books I have read!) and is a good book to start with for a new gerbil owner. While the original version is out of stock there is a new edition released recently. It has a pink cover with an argente golden/cream (cinnamon) gerbil on the front, written by the same author, etc. It's exactly the same with a few new pictures, and also very good.

Peter R. Cheeke has done a terrific job in condensing his and a great deal others' research into a book that serious rabbit breeders will consult for generations to come.

It must be noted that this book is not going to be an easy read for many people - particularly non-native English-speakers. Still, it is worth every effort you will make for this is the best available source of detailed information resulting from years of painstaking research.

Serious raisers will likely also want to subscribe to a bi-monthly internet publication at prma.org and to Rabbit Habit Weekly at rabbitfarming.com.

Two other books make excellent companions to Rabbit Feeding & Nutrition - Rabbit Production; Rabbit Farming Manual (available only direct from publisher at rabbitfarming.org).

Cheeke was a co-author on Rabbit Production.

Again, Rabbit Feeding & Nutrition is a must read for commercial rabbit producers.

From the author: Polyimide resins based on dianhydrides of aromatic tetracarboxylic acids and acetyl derivatives of aromatic diamines have been developed for impregnating carbon fibers and glass cloth. Binder prepolymers are soluble in amide solvents and acetone and also form melts with a viscosity of 0.1-0.3 Pa [multiplied by] s at 250-300 [degrees] C. The melt lifetime is 20-30 min. An increase in temperature leads to the formation of a crosslinked insoluble system of high thermal stability. The formation of polyimide binders was studied with the aid of IR and NMR spectroscopy. A mechanism of the reaction of aromatic dianhydrides with acylated amines is proposed. On the basis of polyimide binders from dianhydride of 3,3[prime],4,4[prime]-benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid and bis-[4-acetaminophenyl]-sulfone, bis-[4-acetaminophenyl]-ether, and N,N-diacetyl-p-phenylene diamine, carbon fiber composites with good physicomechanical properties were obtained.

Good for grad school reference as well..........2006-07-14

I used this book to prepare for both my comprehensives and qualifiers. Partial solutions are offered in most cases--always a plus for those seeking self-study. I felt that some of the exercises were above the level of an undergraduate's curriculum, but that just makes it a better graduate school reference.

I'm not as wild about this book as some of the other reviewers. The E&M section is in CGS, which is a big bummer. I found the best review for the qualifier was to just do lots of physics problems for 3 months prior to taking it, and look things up as necessary using the physics books that I was already familiar with.

I used this book when I prepared for the qualifying exams. It is an excellent review to get you back up to speed in an organized way on all of the topics covered... Gets you ready for Cronin's "University of Chicago Graduate Problems in Physics, with solutions" The two make a great team. I am now buying them for my students.

Excellent Study Guide for Comprehensive Exams.......1999-11-04

I like the set-up of the book. Each concept is presented in three parts. The first part is a concise (very concise) summary of concept, the second is problems with worked solutions, and the third is problems with answers so that you can check your work.

This three part combination makes it very easy to quickly identify your own strengths and weaknesses in problem solving; as well as testing your understanding of physics.

This book did the rounds when our 'class' was studying for the comprehensives in grad school. It is an excellent review of undergraduate physics in a concise manner.

A great bathroom book!.......2004-10-25

The self-proclaimed "lovely and talented" author has managed to include more than 60 wide-ranging topics in 70 brief letters which are educational, political, strange, inspirational, topical, weird, crude, and/or outrageous. All letters include the author's unique, creative, and off-center sense of humor. David Letterman would do well to invite this author to his show.

Wonderful combination of Groucho & Will Rogers.......2004-10-02

Need time alone in a small locked room. Take this book with you. You will soon find relief. Outrageous situations reminiscent of Groucho & Co. combined with the wry understatemnt in the style of Will Rogers make this an entertaining read. An ancient tennis player lofts his balls of ribaldry into David Letterman's court. However, none of the letters was ever sent which is probably just as well for the sanity of the postal employees. Nor can we imagine Dave or his writers replying with anything funnier. Occasional eccentrics charge about in the letters, writing a few themselves. All that seems missing is someone strutting across the scene in a long tail coat firing a pistol while a stuffed and stuffy Mae Oliver gasps in astonishment.
