Beyond the Dot.coms: The Economic Promise of the Internet
Robert E. Litan , Alice M. Rivlin , and Alice M. Rivlin Manufacturer: Brookings Institution Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0815700024 |
Book Description
In just a few years, the Internet has had a visible impact on the daily lives of many Americans. But the recent demise of many of the "dot coms" that symbolized the Internet revolution has raised warning flags about its future.Until now, discussion of the impact of the Internet on the economy has been mostly speculation. In Beyond the Dot.coms, two of the nation's most respected economists articulate the anticipated economic impact of the Internet over the next five years. Drawing from detailed research conducted by the Brookings Task Force on the Internet and the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE) Internet Task Force (see page 10), Robert Litan and Alice Rivlin address the Internet's potential impacts on productivity, prices, and market structure.
The research suggests that the most significant economic impact of the Internet will be its potential to increase productivity growth in the existing economy-with cheaper transactions, greater management efficiency, increased competition and broadened markets, more effective marketing and pricing, and increased consumer choice, convenience, and satisfaction. The greatest impact may not be felt in e-commerce, but rather in a wide range of "old economy" arenas, including health care and government.

Ministry and the Law: What You Need to Know

Book Description
Useful for both church professionals and volunteers, this is a practical guide to help religious professionals recognize and deal with legal issues that they may encounter in their ministry.Customer Reviews:
This book fills a great need for Catholic ministers........1998-10-14
The text is well laid out and easy to read. An index would have been useful, but since the book is quite brief, the lack of an index is not a major problem. Probably the best aspect of the book, in my opinion, is its explanation of the relationship between the legal aspects of ministry and the social justice teaching of the Church. For example, while some ministers may resent the administrative burden caused by current employment practices, the author points out that it is through these very practices that the social teaching of the church is concretized in the local church.
This book is useful for everyone involved in ministry, from pastors to volunteer teachers, from school principals to parish council presidents.

Book Description
Recent changes in the Conservation Compliance Plans for farmers shows the need for improved information on the effective management of crop residues. Residue management requires an understanding of the crop, soil, and climate in which the farming system is located. In this volume, the strategies for effective residue management are described for each region of the country to provide a comparison of the regional differences. The chapters not only describe the knowledge in each region but also suggest some of the needed areas of research required to develop an improved understanding of the processes involved in effective residue management.

Managing Agricultural Residues
Paul W. Unger Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0873717309 |
Book Description
Many agriculturalists, conservationists, and environmentalists are stressing the importance of sustaining soil productivity so that future generations will have adequate productive land on which to produce food. One significant factor affecting soil productivity is the retention of crop residues on the surface of the soil to help control soil erosion. This book provides a review of the vast amount of literature on the subject, condensing the findings in a comprehensive, easy-to-understand manner. It focuses on topics such as erosion control, crop production in systems involving surface residues, residue use for fuel and animal feed, plant pathogens, insects, soil properties, and the economics of conservation tillage.

Book Description
The Second Edition is an updated revision to the authors highly successful and widely used introduction to the principles and application of the statistical theory of signal detection. This book emphasizes those theories that have been found to be particularly useful in practice including principles applied to detection problems encountered in digital communications, radar, and sonar.Customer Reviews:
The Book on Advanced Detection Theory.......2003-09-24
An Advanced Book on Detection Theory.......2003-03-26
If you don't have some background in detection theory or at least hypothesis testing, then in my estimation this is probably not the book for you. On the other hand if the myriad texts available are beginning to appear to be a little bit weak on the probability/statistics analysis of signals, then this is the book for you.
Worst textbook I ever had.......2002-01-03
Good for reference, not for learning.......2000-10-13
I would give it zero stars if that was an option.......2000-09-13

Euripides, Volume V. Helen. Phoenician Women. Orestes (Loeb Classical Library No. 11)
Euripides , and David Kovacs Manufacturer: Loeb Classical Library ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0674996003 |
Book Description
Euripides has been prized in every age for the pathos, terror, surprising plot twists, and intellectual probing of his dramatic creations. In this fifth volume of the new Loeb Classical Library Euripides, David Kovacs presents a freshly edited Greek text and a faithful and deftly worded translation of three plays.
For his Helen the poet employs an alternative history in which a virtuous Helen never went to Troy but spent the war years in Egypt, falsely blamed for the adulterous behavior of her divinely created double in Troy. This volume also includes Phoenician Women, Euripides' treatment of the battle between the sons of Oedipus for control of Thebes; and Orestes, a novel retelling of Orestes' lot after he murdered his mother, Clytaemestra. Each play is annotated and prefaced by a helpful introduction.
