The title says it all. This is the greatest book ever. Kudos to the authors especially Ms. Casteris.

Book Description

Sliding Mode Control (SMC) is gaining increasing importance as a universal design tool for the robust control of linear and nonlinear systems. The strengths of sliding mode controllers result from the ease and flexibility of the methodology for their design and implementation. They provide inherent order reduction, direct incorporation of robustness against system uncertainties and disturbances, and an implicit stability proof. They also allow for the design of high performance control systems at low costs. SMC is particularly useful for electro-mechanical systems because of its discontinuous structure. In fact, since the hardware of many electro-mechanical systems (such as electric motors) prescribes discontinuous inputs, SMC has become the natural choice for direct implementation. The book is intended primarily for engineers and establishes an interdisciplinary bridge between control science, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Very good book on Sliding Mode Control.......2004-01-16

This book is not only very well written but gradually introduces the novice reader to the idea behind Sliding Mode Control. All credits are given to the individuals behind this great idea. As a graduate student specializing in Control and Automation with a particular interest in Sliding Mode Control, this was the a very good resource and probably the best $140 CAD I have spent. Furthermore, the practical problems are always an extra bonus.

I highly recommended this book for the the graduate student interested in nonlinear control theories, specifically sliding mode control and also thank Amazon.ca for having it on the shelf. Good service and good book!

Sliding Mode Control.......2000-03-31

The originator of sliding mode control (SMC), who has introduced a physical phenomenon, 'sliding mode' into control theory and has developped SMC over 50 years, presents the various most up-to-date SMC methods.

"Sliding Mode Control in Electromechanical Systems" emphasize on practical aspect of SMC, while the previous SMC book "Sliding Mode in Control and Optimization" has its focus on the theory. The practical examples involve pendulums, antennas, robotics manipulators, among others. Highly recommended for serious control engineers.

Pulp fictions of medieval England comprises ten essays on individual popular romances; with a focus on romances that, while enormously popular in the Middle Ages, have been neglected by modern scholarship. Each essay provides valuable introductory material, and there is a sustained argument across the contributions that the romances invite innovative, exacting and theoretically charged analysis. However, the essays do not support a single, homogenous reading of popular romance: the authors work with assumptions and come to conclusions about issues as fundamental as the genre's aesthetic codes, its political and cultural ideologies, and its historical consciousness that are different and sometimes opposed. Nicola McDonald's collection and the romances it investigates, are crucial to our understanding of the aesthetics of medieval narrative and to the ideologies of gender and sexuality, race, religion, political formations, social class, ethics, morality and national identity with which those narratives engage.
